For a look called "Doja's Inferno," Doja Cat wore a red silk faille bustier, a hand-knitted skirt with lacquered wooden beads, and 30,000 Swarovski crystals, which were hand-applied by makeup artist Pat McGrath in a painstaking process that took McGrath and her team of eight assistants 4 hours and 58 minutes to complete. Photo is irrelevant to the question, it’s one of my pieces that I absolutely adore that i got in black Friday sale. My question is that I don’t understand the general hate for Swarovski. I understand nothing about the material is precious, glass, metal alloy that is plated. The brand does not pretend it’s selling diamonds or gold. It’s not an inheritable item and that’s the case for most fashion luxury brand items that sell for thousands of dollars. I come from asia and people find no value in any jewelry if it’s not gold or precious stones despite modern manufactured materials are producing some beautiful items. Every piece i got is very artistic and well made. I had items that are 5+ years and show minimal wear despite wearing them often. I see people selling their parents/grandparents collection of miniature sculptures. So correct me if I’m misleaded, but they seem to be strong enough to last me a life long? They have some stunning pieces that are fraction of the price of diamond & gold pieces without the ethical issues surrounding both. Okay so maybe just make a decision after reading this. I work in a jewelry department and I get a lot of young couples (or honestly just anyone) that want to purchase Swarovski jewelry thinking it’s considered fine jewelry. No.... just no. I always have to tell them the jewelry isn’t made out of silver or gold and the crystals are their own creation. Swarovski does not even use semi precious gems. The jewelry will tarnish and the crystals will fall off. Consider all of this when you look at the cost for a very basic Swarovski necklace ($170). It costs Swarovski less than a few dollars to manufacture these items. I am blown away how people think Swarovski is some high end fine jewelry. Not to mention you can find actual gold or silver items for not too much more expensive than a garbage Swarovski piece of shit (oh I’m sorry I meant jewelry). Jewelry is a scam to begin with.
