Resources for learning Mandarin with my toddler (2yo)? Looking for apps/books for absolute beginners + kids.
I love learning languages and want to start introducing Mandarin Chinese to my family. My child is currently around 2 years old, and I’d love to find a way for us learn together. My Mandarin isn't that good anymore but I have an okay foundation (took 4 years of courses in college) Ideally, I'm looking for: Interactive books (ideally with Pinyin, English, and hanzi characters). Apps or shows that use high-quality comprehensible input that a parent and toddler can watch/interact with together actively. Websites or curricula designed for non-native speaker parents raising bilingual kids. Has anyone successfully done this with a toddler? 21 month old happy and active toddler with lack of appetite, relies only on breastmilk. HELP
Has anyone had a toddler like this and eventually found an answer? This is not a case of a picky eater, this is a case of a toddler with a total lack of appetite. My son Mateo is 21 months old. He was born at 37 weeks with IUGR (5 lbs / 2.27 kg and 45 cm at birth). Due to his size and tongue tie, he struggled with feeding since he was born. We eventually had his tongue tie cut when he was 1 month old, and started breastfeeding very well. He was thriving from 2-12 months old with just breastmilk.. but of course, babies start needing more nutrients that breastmilk cannot offer, so after 12-14 months, he stopped growing.. We have been trying to introduce solids since he was 9 months old, with no success. which is why we have been seeing OTs and swallowing specialists in our country and in the US for sensory, oral-motor, and feeding difficulties. We have seen some improvements over time: he can swallow smoothies and purees, but he is still not eating and relies 100% on breastmilk. He takes 1,2,3 bites of anything, and he's done. Mateo is a very small baby, he is at the 0 percentile. We have tried EVERYTHING to get him to eat: liquids, bone broth, smoothies, purees, flavours, tricks, making mealtime fun, jumping, applauding, screens, relaxing, and stop pressuring.. everything you can think of, we have tried. In a good day, he will try it, give it a couple of sips or bites, and nothing more. He just does not want to eat. What makes my son's case very confusing is that he is otherwise a happy, healthy, active, social, curious little boy. He is meeting developmental milestones, plays normally, learns quickly, and does not appear sick. He does not have neurological issues, autism, developmental delays, or major behavioral concerns, but we are still very worried about his growth and health. It's just not normal that an almost 2-year-old boy has absolutely no interest in food, and relies solely on breastmilk. Our conclusion is that, for some reason, the appetite is not developped. Again, this is not a case of a picky eater. I've read a lot about toddlers with what ends up being habits challenges (but they will have a decent/sustainable intake of their safe foods). This is a case of a "non-eater" Has anyone had a child with a similar profile? I'm especially interested in hearing from families whose child was happy, developmentally normal, breastfed well, but had no intake/interest in food at almost 2-years-old. If so: Did you eventually find a medical cause? Was it EoE, GI-related, endocrine, metabolic, or something else? Did your child eventually outgrow it? What ended up helping the most? We are currently continuing evaluations, but after almost two years of searching for answers, we would love to hear from families who have been through something similar. submitted by /u/new-balls_please to r/toddlerfood [link] [comments]

Help! Hip carrier for active toddler that’s not ring sling
Help! I need recs for a hip carrier for an active toddler that is up and down a lot. I’m struggling with the learning curve of the hip carrier and she fits me on it. I end up use our tush baby which I love but I’d love something with more support. I use a LennyLamb half buckle for regular back carry but need something for around the kitchen when she’s going through her barnacle stage. Doesn’t have to be full hands free but more than the tush baby. submitted by /u/laughingteresa to r/babywearing [link] [comments]

Toddler learning at a fast pace and can’t keep up??
Hi I don’t post very often at all but I’m getting to a point that I’m not sure where to go. My partner and I are 21 and 22 and we have a 22 month old who is VERY intelligent. He learned to walk at 10 months and was running within that week and has not stopped since. He can say his abcs completely and can count to 10. He can label basic shapes and colors and can distinguish between all the categories in flashcards (he’s obsessed with them). He’s reading a little bit here and there and can label each letter with its phonic sound. He can speak quite a few words and can communicate very basic things like more please, up/down/all done, potty (we’re in early training for potty training and he will go pee on it when we take him) and can sign a few words/phrases but I feel like I’m not either giving him enough stimulation or just not enough in general. We live in a family house with multiple generations (it’s like two houses between the two stories) so I don’t know if I’m feeling the pressure of the generation differences (bc we’re very conscious abt what he eats/drinks bc of what’s in the food now) or if I feel like I’m just falling behind myself and I’m projecting. I’ve been looking into different things to do with him but when my partner goes to work he takes the car/car seat so we kinda can’t go anywhere. He’s also at work for 9/10+ hrs at a time and he works 2nd/3rd shift sometimes so I try to also let him sleep in until 9/10 esp on late nights when he gets home at 3 or 4am. Our routine looks like getting up between 7/8 and I’ll put on one of his episodes and make him breakfast and then going out to play around 9 bc he’s not a morning person half the time. He’ll take a nap after lunch between 1-3 depending on the day and will nap for 1-2 hrs before getting up. But the 5-7pm time frame is a STRUGGLE and now bedtime is becoming more of a fight. Usually bedtime is 8-8:30 but he’ll fight until 11:30 sometimes (it’s only started this past like week or so) and I’m just exhausted. We have a small inside toddler slide, a massive box fort w a ball pit, toys and trucks galore, books on books/flashcards, toddler legos and wood blocks, you name it we probably have it. We have so much for him to do or available for him to play with but it’s usually after dinner when he “acts” up the most We do some tv time but no tablets. He watches word world, super why, little bear, franklin or our favorite preschool prep company or my baby can read. If we do miss Rachel we watch her shorter vids in the morning and we do miss raven at night (again on bad days is usually the only time he’ll have like sit down and watch tv chill time) We don’t let him watch more than an episode or two and he hasn’t even seen a Disney movie bc we don’t want him on the screen too much. He’s very active and runs from one end of the house to the other and gets into anything he can and sometimes I don’t know if it’s just to see what we’ll do or if he’s just exploring? Idk I feel like I’m losing my mind sometimes since I’m the primary parent who takes care of our LO and I feel like we butt heads sometimes and I don’t feel it’s fair for our little guy when he’s just being a kid and I’m overwhelmed/overstimulated considering I’m a bedroom kid raising a living room baby Apologies for it being so long but again I’m not sure what to do and I don’t know what to expect considering he’s our first but I really don’t know if I want to consider a second even if it’s not any time soon. If anyone has any tips or advice or even tricks that helped with your toddler please share 😭😅 also I hope this all made sense bc I was chasing him off and on while typing this. Edit: thank you everyone for your suggestions! We will be trying to cap his nap at an hour and explore a bit more at the library. I didn’t realize all the things the library had😅 we will also be trying to do a few walks when we can submitted by /u/DemonShadow23 to r/toddlers [link] [comments]

Weekend toddler activity ideas -- not corporate
I have a 2.5 and 5 yr old. We have a good mix of free time and family activity times like the zoo. Our kids would benefit from some group activities from a social aspect, learning skills, and of course fun. We tried out some activities, and we found them to be overly corporate and rigid (I'm specifically talking about KidStrong). Or older one is in gymnastics and has learned a lot about following instructions, trying new physical feats, and operating without parent involvement. Have you found any activities that have been formative or interesting that aren't necessarily heavily marketed or overly corporate? submitted by /u/ura_walrus to r/phoenix [link] [comments]

He's way too chill after he fucked up
I need to get this out of my system: I love my husband, but I don't like him right now. We're together well over a decade. He says he cares for me, and he's a provider, and yes he finally cleans and plays with the kids. It took years of talks, arguments, and explosions from my side to raise him to that point. I'm so frustrated. Exhausted. My latest point of WHY THE FUCK was Mother's Day (to nobody's surprise here, I'm sure). A year ago, I decided I will quiet quit my marriage. I stopped doing the things. I dropped the rope. No presents for people from his side, no extra mile. I match his energy, and let's say: I started a Korean skin care routine to occupy my time, got enough of that now! He started complaining a while ago about me not doing enough. I laughed in his face. This is payback for a decade of me stretching myself thin so he could be comfortable. I am definitely an asshole to him right now, and I do it willingly to get even. Only when I feel like the scales are more equal, I will put in more again. Anyhow, we talked about Christmas. Christmas is a huge thing for me. We have a birthday in the family on the 24th of December, and we host. So I am the one who usually plans a birthday party plus Christmas with stayover guests. People love to visit us. Food, fun movies, some games. Last time our newly widowed neighbour and her daughter came over for example, I didn't want them to be alone, and we watched Knives Out, and it was good. But Christmas + Birthday with 12-16 people needs to be planned. Kids can be picky eaters, adults can be especially picky eaters, everyone got an allergy nowadays, it's a whole thing. I start planning Christmas in July. I set a theme. I cook the first meal ideas once a month for a special Sunday dinner. Get the sauce *perfect*, while we don't eat it so much everyone is over it by December. I test out new convenience products. Get the first gifts on sale, and put them in a safe spot. By November, I'm usually done gift shopping, cooking is sorted, and I make plans for activities. I also do gift packages for the grandparents in due time, and paint my own Christmas cards. Bear with me here, I really like organising. I know it's a bit much, but really, I spend like 3h/month in preparation, including cooking. My husband told me he thinks I overdo it. Sure. I do. When would he start planning? Oh, start of December or something? My eyebrow shot up. He corrected to mid November. I knew he would fuck it up. Everyone would expect one of my events. I'm a project manager. Planning ahead is my job. I do risk analysis without noticing. It's fun for me, and he can't even commit to dinner plans. What did I do? Give him the reigns. Valentine's Day we had no dinner reservation, because he thought the week of would be early enough. Hahahahaha. No. I exploded. He felt a bit bad, but not much. Mother's Day. The teenager went to visit my ex husband on Friday. My wish was for husband and teenager to have the house cleaned by Sunday. It was clear that wouldn't happen, teenager forgot Mother's Day entirely, ex husband also forgot it, and husband suddenly had to parent the toddler, and clean the whole house. I took the toddler grocery shopping. Teenager bought me a handbag I already own. At least she managed to hit my taste, and I'm not angry at her, she's autistic. Two men failed her. Two fathers. She came back by Saturday to clean the floors at least. Anyhow, we went to a café (reservation the week after Valentine's Day, he did learn by pain), were 30 minutes early. We rushed out of the door for nothing. Amazing! I was not impressed. Later they wanted to play a game with me, when I wanted to go to the cinema. Husband didn't take note that I told him I'd like to see the new Devil wears Prada movie. I don't get why he thinks I would like to play a boardgame when I said I can't concentrate enough for them for a month now, since I have a new job basically. Should I have forced myself? Maybe. Maybe not. I would have in the past, and I don't have fucks left to appease my family right now. I'm sorry for being such an ass, and very much not sorry for finally putting my own interests first. My husband is still very much... Not there. He's apologetic, but he doesn't realise he tried to mansplain my own work to me, and then failed spectacularly when given the chance to manage a celebration on his own. We do an ESC party this Saturday. I will organise it of course. Charcuterie Boards are my test run food for the party. They are amazing! Soft cheese (Saint Albray, Brie), hard cheese (Gruyère, sharp Cheddar), poultry salami sticks, feta creame with pepper bells, stuffed baby pepper bells, olives, three types of crackers, nuts, grapes, cherry tomatoes, and some condiments I found in my fridge. Glorious! submitted by /u/Gold-Carpenter7616 to r/GirlDinnerDiaries [link] [comments]

AITAH for making my 15 year old stepdaughter leave my home and banning her from my house for her cruelty?
I 35(F) have been married to my husband 45(M) for 4 years and together for 5. We dated for a year before we got married. He has a beautiful 15 year old daughter from a previous marriage. She never viewed me as a stepmother but as en enemy. Maybe it’s because her mother sees me that way or maybe she feels that I’m trying to replace her mother. I have tried everything I could to make her feel welcome in our home. I love her like my own daughter. It hurts because she hates me and I don’t know why. I always make myself available for her to come to me when she needs me. I include her in every activity I do. I even offered to paint her room for her when her father told her that she’d have to wait . I am doing everything I can to make her feel welcomed around me. I want her to feel like she’s my family. Her mother doesn’t like me at all and that may be another factor in this. So today was a boiling point. So for context, my step daughter has anger issues. I have talked to her and her mother, about potentially getting her counseling The past few months her behavior has gotten worse than it was before. She would start with stealing from me, and destroying things in the house after her father tells her no to things, and when her father upsets her in the slightest, she’d break things. She’s broken our television, she’s thrown dishes and broke them, she has kicked doors and slammed doors off of . She’s broken glasses, and has punched holes in walls and kicked the doors down. She has been fighting at school. She has started these fights as well. She beat up a girl so bad she broke her nose and arm. She has fought teachers and security. We have been to juvenile court three times in the past year and a half. This scares me because I’m always worried of doing or saying the wrong thing. I am on eggshells here. I’m at a loss and don’t know what to do. I also have a toddler with my husband who is two years old. So earlier today I put my toddler down for a nap. My husband and his daughter got into an argument, she asked to stay the night at her boyfriend’s house and he told her no. I walked downstairs to see what was going on. And our dog crossed her path, she kicked him hard in his side and told him to move out of the way. I had gotten really angry in that moment because I had put up with a lot from her. Animal cruelty is just something no one should ever do no matter how angry they are. I called her mother and told her to come get her. I went upstairs to my stepdaughters room and grabbed her bags she brought over and put them downstairs beside the door. She yelled at me and threatened harm towards me. I told her that she is no longer welcome here since she hurt our dog. I told her that until she learns to control her anger she can’t be here. Her mother came and told me I was overreaching and called me a bunch of names. I told them both to leave. Now my stepdaughters mom and aunt are spamming me with hateful messages saying I had no right to ban her from our home. I’m at a loss. I’ve been nothing but loving and patient with her. I gave her chance after chance and defended her on so many occasions. I can’t handle this anymore. This stress is getting to me. I wish there was a way we could get her admitted to some facility to help her. Her mother refused all together and tells me I’m not her real mother and I have no rights to make any choices regarding her daughter. AITAH? submitted by /u/big_mama_25 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

Toddler activities in Leiden near the University
Hi there, I'm visiting Leiden for an upcoming conference at the University and looking for recommendations for activities and areas to take my toddler, who is also coming along. In fact, a few parents will be there with young children and we've just learned the conference won't be able to arrange childcare as usual, so we are trying to research what might be best. Please do reccommend toddler friendly soft plays, parks, playgrounds, anything you think might help us! All the kids are under 4. Thanks so much! submitted by /u/guicherson to r/Leiden [link] [comments]

Is everyone taking their toddlers to activities throughout the week?
First time dad to a beautiful 2 year old girl and looking for advice. We are feeling a bit of pressure to take her to more educational and physical activities outside of the house from our peers The issue is generally both me and my wife are exhausted, with my full time job and my wife being a SAHM but doing casual work on weekday evenings and weekends (to stay sane) combined with trying cook healthy meals and keeping the house clean. By the time we get to the weekend, we are so tired while still trying to catch up with friends and family when we can. Meanwhile, we have family and friends who take their toddlers to a variety of activities from the library, early learning classes, gymbaroo, play centres ect I honestly don’t know how they do it, just getting out of the house in a reasonable time for us is a victory so we generally stay at home where my daughter has lots of toys and books plus we go into the backyard or go for walks to the playgrounds nearby. She also seems to enjoy playing by herself as well in her playpen We were going to try taking her to the local library and start swimming classes soon but I’m concerned that we are slowing her development down by not getting her out of the house more considering she isn’t going to childcare. Her last check up the paediatrician flagged no issues but can’t help but worry about it submitted by /u/spade1686 to r/BabyBumpsandBeyondAu [link] [comments]

Developmentally (in)appropriate activities in a toddler room?
Hi all, I'm a pediatric speech-language pathologist and mom of two. My youngest is 19 months old and recently moved up from the infant room to the toddler room at his daycare. The class has twelve kids, ages 18-30 months. I'm a little concerned that some of the daily activities aren't age appropriate, and I'm interested in the perspective of ECE teachers. I've noticed that this class spends a lot of time in circle time, where the teacher holds up flashcards for the kids to label. For example, she'll hold up a picture of a car and say "what's this?" Then she'll say "it's a car. everybody say car." Then she'll ask what color it is, have everyone imitate the word, and then she'll ask "what color is your mommy or daddy's car?" She asked that last question about four times, louder each time, and no one answered. Then she moved on to the next flashcard (a bicycle). They also work on saying opposites in circle time: the teacher says "what is the opposite of cold" and then when no one answers, she says, "everyone say hot." As a speech-language pathologist, I would not recommend this type of activity for this age group for a number of reasons. Children learn words best in meaningful contexts, and flashcards remove all context. There's really no reason for them to be labeling flashcards when they could be playing with real objects or engaging with interesting books. And questions like "what color is your mommy or daddy's car" are not realistic for the younger kids in the class to answer. Asking the question louder and repeatedly isn't going to help anyone answer it. I also recognize that what I do in one-on-one sessions with kids with language delays is a very different approach from what an ECE teacher would do in a classroom. Are these kinds of rote activities typical to do with kids in the 18-30 month group? If not, what kinds of activities would you do instead? Any advice on whether and how to bring this up with the center? submitted by /u/Temporary_Dust_6693 to r/ECEProfessionals [link] [comments]

My husband won’t let me nap
I’m 20 weeks pregnant with a toddler and between all the different stuff she has going on (cheer, dance, mother’s day out etc.) i’m typically chauffeuring her around, chasing her around, cleaning, cooking or picking up after my husband. For some reason he can never let me nap! He’s weird about sleeping separate, so if i fall asleep on the couch he wakes me up to move to the bed. Not for me, for him. I’ve told him before just to take our child and dog and leave me alone. I’m one of those that can’t fall asleep after being woke up. He does it if our child is at mother’s day out and he comes home for lunch and wants food made. He’ll take our child “off my hands” for a bit but in my sleep i hear him make up different ways to get her to wake me up. He also has been a BIG nap person since before we even had kids, he always gets to nap and in the times i’m napping i’m not taking away any sleep time from him so I never thought of it being because of that. I just don’t know what to do, if I don’t sleep enough i get physically ill. I actually had to leave the house today I was so fed up with him not letting me sleep and now we’re(my child and I) back in the living room after he woke me up because he didn’t actually have to sleep. He’s been on his phone since he woke me up to move over there and is still currently on it. I never had this issue with him in my previous pregnancy. Update: I want to thank everyone for their advice and perspective. Up until this point we’ve never dealt with these issues, He is typically very helpful and great with our first. This is a recent turn of events. I am not being forced to be a SAHM as some of you pointed out, I love being home with my child and chose this. Due to us moving frequently because of his job, I don’t trust anyone right off the bat to watch my child! Heck our own parents haven’t stayed overnight with them yet. A lot of comments were against my child being in so many activities so I thought I’d give some context if it mattered. We previously lived in an area surrounded by neighbors with children similar in age to my child, she attended swim and ballet on the days she didn’t have her early preschool program. She had lots of friends and my husband was deployed back to back so it got us out of the house to do fun things. We moved across the county, due to his job, and she had nothing. We live on a very busy through street right off of a major highway. The neighbors are older and hardly have their grandkids around. My child THRIVES on routine and consistency not to mention she wa just lonely. My husband works weekly and most weekends due to his new assignment. She only had me so it was good for the both of us to have these activities. Yes I have HG, and you wouldn’t believe it given this post but up until recently my husband was taking my daughter to work before we got her enrolled in these programs because I was so sick. Unprovoked he would wake her up to go with him. Mother’s Day out is 2 days out of the week from 9-3, that gives me a break to rest or clean. tumble/cheer is a separate day from MDO for a little less than an hour. Those two together are not as intense as you think, for majority of the class they’re practice balancing on toddler balance beams literally the ones from target, then learning to clap on beat and play with pompoms. It gives her a fun physical activity because we are more of a craft, pick flowers type of people at home! Ballet is also a different day from MDO, T/C and is 45 min. It’s an early class at about 10 which is great because after we meet with some of the moms and kids to goto the park and eat then let the kids play. I personally chose to put my child in these programs for her sake and my sanity. As for my husband, We have spoke and I have pointed out what a lot of you said with out saying “hey look at what people on the internet told me”. We are taking the next few lunch days of my daughter’s MDO days to speak about things and why he’s feeling the way he’s feeling and taking it out on me. I appreciate everyone’s feed back and hope this is somewhat of peace for some of you. Also, about the hearing things in my sleep lol…due to my husband having 2 back to back deployments that each has 5 week trainings, I never really “napped” for safety reasons. Even if my child was in a safe environment my body would still listen out for them. I guess a better word is i’m a light sleeper when it comes to naps so I can be alert if anything happens. Good news i’ve have 2 five hour naps recently. uninterrupted. submitted by /u/texus5evr to r/Vent [link] [comments]

I left the US for Portugal a few weeks ago.
I wanted to share our timeline and process for leaving the US to Portugal, in case it would be helpful for others thinking about doing the same thing. Neither of us have Portuguese heritage. We are in our mid 30s, hetero, a biracial couple, have a young toddler, and a dog. We had visited Portugal before and were absolutely struck by how family friendly it was. We knew we wanted somewhere that was more family focused and had a slower pace of life. Jan 2025 - I lost my job because I was DOGE’d. It was devastating, but we immediately started thinking of ways to leave, since there was nothing tying us here now with work. Mar 2025 - we looked at all visa types that we could qualify for and landed on Portugal’s D7 since we own a small property in America that we rent out. April 2025 - we secured VFS appointments in Miami for June. We work with an online realtor to secure an apartment and lease and a fixer to get our NIFs and bank accounts. Late May 2025 - after seeing tons of people post about delays at Miami, we switch our VFS appointments from Miami to book directly with the Consulate in New Bedford. June 2025 - we have our visa appointment in New Bedford. July 2025 - we receive our D7 approvals. August 2025 - we got rid of most of our things and brought checked bags with us. From start to finish, it was about 5 months for us to get out. During this time, I was also able to start freelancing and working remotely, which is allowed on the D7. We are actively learning Portuguese and are making small strides every day with it. We are very happy to be here, even with the bureaucracy being what it is. We thankfully have AIMA appointments in early 2026. Happy to answer any questions. I hope this has been helpful. Edit: signing off for now. I won’t be responding to repeat questions - please read through the comments! Edit 2: since this is my throwaway account, I’m logging off. I hope this was helpful and gives some of you a bit of hope. Sometimes the sub is super negative and I wanted to show how someone without any heritage or a work sponsor was able to get out. For the few who want to see us fail - I hope to prove you wrong. Thanks for the engaging conversation, everyone. submitted by /u/Random_tandem_123 to r/AmerExit [link] [comments]

How to say goodbye?
TLDR: how to say goodbye to my best friend? I love this group I love seeing all the golden retrievers at the different stages of life. It hits me hard, especially when I see the baby goldens or the toddlers. When I first got my Maggie, I cried uncontrollably for the first few months, thinking how short her life is going to be she was my first I considered her a child, so it was like having a baby. I never had kids she just fulfilled me with all the love I needed in that department. I got her at three months old from a really small breeder in Nevada. I’m at the mom and the grandma and I met her sisters and brothers. That was back in March 2011. I would take to her lake tahoe as a puppy and thats where she learned to swim. She would swim to me put her legs on my legs and we would hold eachother in the water, happy to just float there embracing eachother. Or she would float on her back trusting that i got her. She was just my constant companion. She’s been with me through everything. I grew up with her, i became an adult because of her. She’s been with me through everything. The bad relationships. The house moves. She just been my constant source of happiness and stress relief. I noticed she started slowing down around age 10, but she’s still walked with me, happy to get treats. Did her little Woowooo when she wanted attention. But now she can’t get up on her own. Admittedly, I’m not active so she wasn’t really either I work from home and I’m disabled. I will never forgive myself for not keeping her more fit. Now she cant get up off floor unassisted. Has a hard time going potty because she cant hold herself up for too long. She started throwing up in the last six months took her to the doctors. Looks like her pancreas has some issues. Maybe cancer doctor was real with me and said even if we do surgery it’s not necessarily going to extend her life. She has a hard time eating and drinking at times. She’s so skinny now I can feel every bone in her body. She feels like a little bird. She needs palliative care. Thank God I work from home. I’m doing everything to help her. I got her a harness so I could pick her up like a suitcase. I pick her up and change her position every 2-3 hours. I wake up in the middle of the night multiple times when she cries out to see what she needs, just like a new born. I got her a cart so I put her in it and take her to the backyard to go potty. I got her diapers for when she can’t make it in time, and i bath her as soon as she has her accidents. I blend up chicken baby food with grilled chicken and dog Gatorade and put the food right in front of her and water right in front of her. She’s on a good dose of medication, It’s such an honor to take care of her in the end. She has brought me so much joy, it’s such an honor to take care of her in the end. I cant imagine with my other dogs are going to do, especially her mate. I don’t dare to think about her no longer being here. I keep it Clinical in my mind. What she needs and how to keep her comfortable has kept me distracted. But I can’t even fathom her not being here, I don’t know how to say goodbye. So any suggestions for when the time comes? Any advice on how to let go of my angel on earth? submitted by /u/ActiveForever3767 to r/goldenretrievers [link] [comments]

OOP wants to Give Up her 2 Year Old Toddler for Adoption
I am NOT OP. Original post by u/ashleyprocter in r/Adoption trigger warnings: Death, Self Harm Suicide, PTSD, Drug Overdose Needing to place my 2 year old toddler up for adoption. Has anyone have any experience with this - July 31, 2021 I came to the realization that I need to place my almost 2 year old, daughter up for adoption. I'm a single mom with no family support and no support from the birth father. I came from a broken abusive family, my mom was addict (I actually was in foster care from the age of 12 until I aged out). I struggled from PTSD, depression and suicide for my whole adulthood. I'm 30 years old, never wanted to be a parent so when I was pregnant, I wanted to put my baby up for adoption but my mom and family pressured me into keeping the baby, they promised me they would help me but the only one who really helped me, was my mother (even though, she wasn't dependable bc of her addiction). All my family live out state and my mom passed from an OD in January 2021 so now I'm all alone. I actually, have a good job and I'm able to financial support my daughter but my mental health is so bad - 6 months after giving birth, I was involuntarily hospitalized for self harming (I had a bad case of PPD, maybe I still do, idk). All I know, I'm in therapy and my mental health is not getting better. I had a healthy pregnancy, no drug or tobacco use, I didn't even drink coffee. My daughter is very healthy, loving, well adjusted and hitting all her milestones. She loves her stuffed animals, she calls them her "Friendies". She loves affection and cuddling. She loves music and dancing, if you say "happy feet", she will shuffle her feet really fast! She's really the cutest thing in this world. Unfortunately, my mental has made it difficult to care for her (especially after losing my mother bc I have no support), sometimes I leave her crying in the crib bc I just can't handle it. I love her but I just feel so disconnected from her. It's not healthy for her and I want her to have a better life then what I had. I know, she is attached to me but I believe, she's young enough to make an adjusted transition. I guess this is a long story, I just don't want people judging me.. I'm just looking for any advice or peoples experiences with placing a toddler up for adoption. I'm hoping to go with a private agency, but not sure if they take toddlers? Even though, I was in foster care - I'm not sure how state/foster adoption agencies work (can I choose the parents and am I able to have an open adoption?)... I know with private agencies, I can choose the parents and I am able to have an open adoption. Ideally, I prefer a same-sex couple (I was sexual abuse by multiple men as child and I really, don't trust any hetero men her). I just don't want my daughter to go through what I have been through, I want her to have a good family. Any non-judging advice would be great. Thank you Update Posted in a Comment -February 16, 2023 Just wanted to update this post: Apologies for not responding sooner! My daughter and I are doing much better than before. It wasn't the best experience to get to this good place but it all worked out in the end. We both seems to be in a good place Here's a long version if anyone is interested: Back in Feb-March 2022, I went through a bad mental health break. I become very suicidal, depressed. I loss over 20 lbs in a week from it (I did have a suicide attempt but I ended calling for help and the EMT took me into the hospital who then 72 me). I went into an inpatient hospital called HRI Hospital, it's a private one and it was more of a holding detention then a psychiatric hospital - I did learn a lot from the other patients so the patients were more helpful then the staff After that experience, I ended up doing an extra psychiatric program but it was a PHP (Partial Hospital Program) which is an intense outpatient one where I spent 8 hours a day Mon-Fri, doing therapy work... It was actually more helpful, they focused on teaching about CBT, coping skills, how to reframing negative thoughts patterns... So that was actually more helpful then the inpatient hospital... (I will say at the time Boston was going through a major mental health crisis, probably most places might be having the same crisis... Around that same time, Boston was "trying" to clear up the homeless camp tents on methadone mile and many homelessness were shuffled to these inpatient hospitals so they were extra overloaded!!! It took 4 days just to get me a bed so it was in unprecedented circumstances, and actually, around that same time is when Russia started to invade Ukraine bc I found that out while in the hospital, watching the news so my timing really sucked, it just not a good time). My daughter's update: Right before all of this, I surrendered custody of my daughter to DCF so she wasn't around me when I had my mental break, back in Feb and never saw any of the stuff, above. Thankfully, she was placed in a very GOOD foster home while I got my help. I had to go through a lot of treatments and follow DCF recommendations but at the end of Sept 2022, my daughter was able to come back home and our court case was officially dismissed in Dec 2022. Current update 2023: Definitely not perfect- it's still a transition and some days are better than others... Being a single mother is just going to be hard, at times and I just need to get used to it, people tell me if gets easier when they start regular school so I'm excited for that!! My daughter is doing well, she def has a slight separation anxiety when I leave or drop her off at daycare but it actually, gotten better since last Sept 2022. DCF is still doing monthly check-ins for the next 6 months. Her ex foster mom still comes and sees Nevaeh and even takes us on family events so it's been a good transition for her. My daughter is a sweet little girl, she loves affection and hugs and seems to be developing, emotionally well with everything that she went through - except for some minor separation anxiety but that really gotten better too!!! I just been working on my mental health, reframing negative thought patterns, staying away from toxic peeps... I have also been focused on whole-body wellness so Im doing weight training, some martial arts, eating more cleaner foods, yoga/stretching, pilates. I gained 50 pounds over the pandemic/lockdown but now, I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight (the healthy way! I don't even weigh myself, I just focus on feeling good and getting back into shape).... I like being active and living healthy so that has really helped my mental health struggles Also, definitely having better self-esteem, more confidence and self worth - has helped the MOST, honestly! I didn't take any pictures of myself, for two years of the pandemic but I'm starting to take more pics and getting out more and just enjoying Life more. I'm in a much better headspace and definitely, feel more hopeful about the future. Thank you all - for your help and just for caring and not for judging!!! I really appreciate these caring comments. AITA for telling my dad I owe him nothing and throwing his words back at him during an argument?
The gist is this. I lost my mom to a long term health issue when I was 10. The cost of treatment drained my parent's finances and it was just dad and me after mom died. No extended family. Dad started dating when I was 12 and he met Jane. After a few months he told me her son had a form of brain cancer and was very sick and that they were getting married and he would be helping to take care of her son. We went from two in a tiny two bedroom house to four in a tiny two bedroom house and me sharing with a terminally ill toddler I didn't know. We had to make so many changes. No more takeout (which was a once a month treat before that). I had to stop my only extra curricular activity. No friends over because noise bothered him. No space that was just mine. No extra money for celebrating birthdays and Christmas. When I was 15 dad and I got into a huge argument because I was never home, and was always saying no to helping Jane take care of her son. When I told him how much I hated the situation he looked me in the eye and told me to grow up. He also told me that I was old enough to understand that life wasn't always easy or fun and that a rougher life can build character. He told me we grew our family, which was a good thing, and one of the consequences of that sometimes is having less, but that it was worth it for the extra love. I told him that was bullshit. He told me I was not his whole life and he was not going to stop doing what he wanted to do because of me. Then he told me to never, ever say anything negative around his stepson because he was a kid and didn't need to know I resented him for being sick. After that talk I was even more distant and left when I was 17, right after graduation, and couch surfed until I went to college (I graduated high school at 17 and turned 18 that October). I didn't stay in touch. When I was 19 I heard that dad's stepson had died. In college I met my wife and we got married this past June. Then in November my dad showed up and told me he wanted to talk. I shut the door in his face. He kept showing up where I was to talk. After getting annoyed with him I agreed to meet him for a coffee. He told me how he'd ended up divorced from Jane and how his stepson had died and he looked disappointed when he learned I knew. He told me how he'd been struggling a lot and how he was hoping I could help him out. I laughed in his face and told him he had some nerve. He mentioned how he'd spent a lot of money on finding me and he wanted us to repair things but he also needed my help. I told him no way. He became angry and told me he was my dad and was always there for me and I owed him. I told him I owed him nothing and I threw most of his words back in his face, including that he needed to grow up and that he was not my whole life and would not stop me doing what I want. It became a bit of a scene. He told me at my age I should have grown more compassion. AITA? submitted by /u/Harlzeren to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

My husband invested
Folks, recently (like the last 4 years) I have struggled to find somthing to do besides clean house, make dinner, take care of toddler, play some video games. Then, last month I got a sewing machine. And I finally feel like I have a hobby again. I haven't sewn anything since I was a kid in 4H, so this has been a total relearning process. I was worried that I would bore my husband by going on and on about what I was doing, but he got so excited for me when I finished my first piece. He started asking questions about the process and patterns and fabric and the machine. The other night I was fretting about taking on a bigger project and having to learn how to do darts on a womans dress, and I forgot the word dart and was trying to say "you know, they are these parts on the dress..." and he said "oh yeah! Darts! Dont worry, you'll get 'em" It dawned on me that I had talked about darts the other day and he freaking was actively listening! I just had so much appreciation for that man at that moment. It was such a small thing, but to see him invested in my hobby made me feel proud to be doing and conquering something new. TLDR my husband showed interest in my hobby and it gave me the warm fuzzies. EDIT- thank you for the awards and upvotes people, thats very sweet. Yes, this was just a mundane interaction between a couple, but in a relationship thats going on 12 years, we sometimes lose track of the things we appreciate in each other. For those saying this is the bare minimum a man can do, you're right. It is. And its sad that some men don't even do it. And its even more sad that women have been conditioned to accept it. submitted by /u/soumynonanoinipo to r/TwoXChromosomes [link] [comments]
