RE:Anhedonia
DAWS is very common. It does settle after several months but can take over a year. A few might experience true anhedonia ( which is very rare ).It sounds like you might need some help. The new Mayo Algorithm now recommends only one anti depressant- wellbutrin. But some report that wellbutrin worsens anxiety. In which case- ask for trazodone.

Thanks Joolsg for all your advice, I have had RLS since nerve damage after prolapse surgery 3 years ago. I have tried everthing now on Gabapentin 300mg 3 times in the evening then at 8 pm have to take 50mg Trazodone for depression and the next day sedated until the afternoon. This is pure hell and there seems no end to it and still in pain in the night.

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps?
Hi, I really don’t know what else to do right now, I’ve reached to to so many different animals support groups but I’m not getting answers I’m hoping I might be able to find some cat owners who have been through what i’m going through to offer their insights. Sorry for bad grammar and spelling this post is long. I adopted a shelter cat 2 years ago from a shelter, she was pulled from the euthanasia list at a kill shelter from a foster pledge that I agreed to care for her while that foster worked things out and make space for her. The shelter told us she was showing some “slight fear based aggression” and would likely thrive outside of a shelter environment. I agreed because obviously a loud shelter would be stressful for any living thing. They informed me the cats had manx syndrome and was fully incontient (doesn’t tolerate diapers and is very much a “imma gonna pee/poop right here where i’m standing cat) I did my research and set up a place in my bathroom with pee pads, normal litter i’ve used with my other cat, warm spaces, cat trees, scratch posts and all the other fixings and brought the cat home to await for her foster. I kept her separate from my cat. Well the foster ghosted me shortly after I took the cat to vet and I have not been able to find another willing to take her in two years, so I accidentally adopted a cat for the rest of my life when I really just meant to get her off of a euthanasia list lol. Within the first month I spent over 5k on vet care and tests (insurance covers nothing since it’s a preexisting condition) She had some teeth pulled but other than was a healthy cat. Her urinating wherever she was concerned me since it wasn’t typical cat behavior, but all her tests came back clean and she is a typical cat apart for the taillessness. After about a month I realized there wasn’t any medical answer to explain why she peed/pooed like that (sorry to hear gross) but it was incredibly frustrating because she was still too aggressive for me to get within a few feet of, much less groom so I worried for her. The vet prescribed prozac and gabapentin. Y’all the gabapentin turned her into a monster! I went in to feed her one day (about 5 weeks since I brought her home I believe) and she latched onto my leg and starting marking her paws around it, she ended up with her claws around my neck and I had to hop in the shower to get her to let go. I went to the ER and got 12 stitches and had to go on an antibiotic I was as sick as a dog for weeks after this as well and tbh our relationship never recovered. I really think this was the beginning of the end. I did more research and reached out to a vet behaviorist and we took her off the gab because it can lead to worsening aggression in some cats. Over the years I tried different meds but none worked. I obviously did not try to start introductions with my resident cat because duh. I followed my behaviorist’s advice, I read outside the door for hours, put on videos for her, tried to get my scent (and my resident cats scent) on the blankets in the bathroom. None of it worked, whenever she smelled my cats scent he’d hiss so loud i’d hear it through the door (I also had a camera set up in there) Whenever I came in to feed her she attack me like the first instance where i went to the ER. I have to fully suit up with a helmet and shin guards to feed her and even with all that she would still latch on my arms/legs and crawl up my body. We switched anti-anxiety meds and I took her back to my vet, well this was the first of many vets in my area who told me they could no longer treat my cat while she’s awake because of safety concerns and she’d need to be sedated. So for the next appointment we fully sedated her and she was finally groomed and got claw capped, again nothing was wrong so I went to a neurological specialist who cost me nearly 10k in appointments and tests over a year and I still did not get any answers. At this point I had to move forward with introducing the cats because the new cat was coming up on a year in the bathroom and me and the behaviorist agreed it might benefit her to have free roam. (catio too) Well it didn’t work and she went crazy. She ripped painting off the wall and chewed up the carpet broke into the cabinet and ate human food…this was within the 20mintue period it took me to let her out, she how she did and to wrangle her up. Still the behaviorist said to keep letting her out. Well one day my resident cat managed to escape the space I put him to separate him from the new cat and she attacked him. I was literally watching the new cat walk into another room and heard a terrible scream and rushed in. The fight was very bad and my old cat had to go to the emergency vet and get surgery..boom another 3K gone. I rehomed him to my parents for his safety and began looking at rescues and fosters to take my new cat to because it was clear to me nothing was improving. I’ve called 45 shelters in illinois and none will take her because of her aggression. I know a lot of people (including a behavioralist I’ve seen) don’t believe cats can have behavioral issues and that’s it’s just them responding to their environment but I don’t know what i’m doing wrong. I’ve had 4 cats and dealt with some issues but nothing like this. I’ve posted her on my local facebook groups and reached out to some known fosters and nobody can take her because everybody involved in the cat world always has a pet cat…that she can’t live with. She can’t be a barn cat either because she’s disabled and barn cats are kept in groups and she’s too dangerous. I have no clue what else to do, she is spayed, is fed regularly on a schedule, has plenty of toys trees and things to scratch. I try to play with her everyday (everyday ends with her trying to get under my helmet and get to my neck which is genuinely scary because she’s not claw capped all the time (nails grows and it’s hard to find vets and groomers willing to take her, so right now I drive 50 mintues for her regular vet (he is the only one i’ve found who doesn’t need to sedate her and she acts like a asylum patient when she wakes up…, an hour for the neurologist and nearly 2 hours with traffic. for the behavioral appointments) (that I used to go to every two weeks so you can imagine the time lost to this, doesn’t help that i’m in buttfuck nowhere Illinois) She’s was on prozac for 6 months, burisphone for another 6, sertaline and fluoxetine for anxiety and none did anything I honestly don’t think she has anxiety I think she is just aggressive…. Besides the cursed gabapentin she’s done trazodone and that didn’t do a whole lot but make her terrified and she hid in a corner and hissed for hours. I hate my life now, I can’t have friends or family over. Literally nobody visits me and I can’t leave town because there’s no one to watch my cat. I had to give up my cat of 12 years who I do actually love back to my parents (they raised him it’s fine but I miss seeing him everyday) I can’t have any decorations because she tears them off the wall and my entire house even though it’s covered with pee pads smells like absolute shit 24/7. I have feilways and pheromones but it doesn’t change the behavior. I have to spend hours cleaning everyday just for it to be ruined the next. It looks and smells like I live in a zoo I let the cat free roam when i’m home and either go hide in my bedroom if I need to do things or have to fully cover all exposed skin with gloves sweater layers of pants, boots, etc if I want to interact. It’s been two years and I’ve never even pet my cat, hell I haven’t been within 3 feet of her unless it’s because she’s lunging on me or attacking me. Obviously no fosters are interested (also i’m not blaming people at all if I knew this cat had more than “slight fear based aggression” I probably would not have agreed to take her on either) and I don’t know what to do, she’s 3 and I know this is horrible to admit but the thoughts of spending the rest of my 20s and then 30s focused on nothing but this cat is devastating. Literally everything in my life has become second to this cat. I understand it’s a commitment I made. But when it’s been years since i’ve traveled, seen old friends been to concerts or gone out it gets very depressing and lonely. What else can I do? I’ve seen 2 behaviorist and their advice is getting redundant, the cats doesn’t have any neurological or medical issues (minus manx) and the vets have no idea what to do and just try different sedation…none works. Unless she’s sleeping she’s angry with me. I just hate this and don’t know what to do. Sometimes I’ll think about my future and cry because I know i’ll still be dealing with this cat during what’s supposed to be the best years of my life…but nowhere will take her but a kill shelter and that’s a death sentence for a cat like her. Has anyone dealt with aggressive and destructive behavior like this? What was the cause? How did you manage? I know nothing of her life before me. submitted by /u/Creepy-Dealer7518 to r/CATHELP [link] [comments]

Gabapentin ruined pill pockets for my dog and we can't get him to take his Trazodone anymore.
He took Trazodone twice a day for like a year before we gave him Gabapentin a couple of times during a stressful time in his life. The Gabapentin apparently tastes so bad that the pill pockets he previously happily and willingly gobbled down are basically toxic now. We've been having to physically force him to take his medication because we don't know what else to do. Everything else we've tried works maybe once before he gets wise and learns to spit the pill out. Pill pockets were the only thing that ever worked for us and he doesn't even want a different flavor of them now. What should we do? Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions! I've compiled a list of things to try over the next few days. We've gone from no ideas to tons of ideas! submitted by /u/Oofername to r/DogAdvice [link] [comments]

Dog Won’t Take Trazodone Pills
Heyo, I've got a sweet smart puppy that hates taking her trazodone. She is recovering from a spay surgery and her little energetic self needs to be calm for a couple more days. We have been struggling to get her to take her pill each day. She will sniff it right out of a high reward treat and spit everything out together. She loves ice cubes so I thought I would freeze some trazodone in some ice trays and see if that works lol. Does anyone know if this will have any effect on the trazodone and that if it will still make her sleepy? Barring she eats it hahahah submitted by /u/Pristine_Jacket7744 to r/dogs [link] [comments]

Trazodone high
I took a trazodone 50mg for the first time last night at around 11pm and this morning I slept in, missing a meeting. In addition to feeling drowsy I felt high so I went out and to get myself some coffee (which I don't even drink) and some food. There was a guitar center in the same complex so I wondered in and went on an impulse shopping spree, buying myself a bass guitar and all the accessories even though I've never even touched a bass guitar in my life before. I came home and ate my food in the parking lot roof like I was high with music on super loud. Then I went home and watched youtube and played video games for hours and I was going to take a shower but I decided to go to the gym but I'm feeling a little dizzy and feels like I'm coming down from a high so now I'm stuck in the couch. I kind of want to go to sleep now but it's like not even 7pm. Has anyone else taken trazodone 50mg for depression and experienced similar drowsiness and feelings of being high and sort of euphoria? If anyone is knowledgeable about this drug, is this a relatively normal experience? How long will I be like this because today was fun but very unproductive, and it seems like if I take it again tonight, tomorrow will be more or less the same. submitted by /u/Negative_Pepper_6222 to r/antidepressants [link] [comments]

Trazodone changed my life
I think everyone knows by now that people usually post reviews/share online when they have something negative to say and the people having a positive experience don't bother writing about it. Well I wanted to share a positive experience about trazodone since I was scared to try it after reading so many complaints. I take a QUARTER of a 50mg pill (got unpleasant side effects from any larger doses) and I fall asleep within an hour EVERY SINGLE TIME! I don't have nightmares, or sweats or headaches or anything. One night I got a really stuffy nose but that went away after I ate some food, same with feeling nauseous one night. So now I always take it with a snack I sleep through the night and fall back asleep right away if I wake. I feel a little sleepy in the morning but that goes away within an hour or sooner if I have some black tea. I actually look forward to going to bed now instead of dreading it because I know I'll be asleep soon instead of laying awake in the dark for hours. I don't take it every night, it mostly helps me reset my sleep if I stayed up too late one night and then I take it 3 nights in a row to help reset the internal clock. Happy to answer questions. This won't work for everyone but I wanted to share a positive story in case someone else finds relief like me submitted by /u/Helpmeeff to r/insomnia [link] [comments]

Trazodone is the most sedating drug I have ever taken in my life.
I have taken a few different benzos, every OTC antihistamine, Z drugs, gabapentin, Seroquel, Belsomra, all the Vitamin Shoppe/GNC stuff that's supposed to help you sleep, the list is massive. Trazodone is far and away the most sedating shit I've put in my body and it's not close. And unfortunately, it's not in a way that is helpful for sleep; it took about 3 hours for the sedation to start gradually kicking in after I took it. (without food) So I still got to have fun lying in bed waiting for it to make me tired enough to pass out. But now I'm in the next day, I am floored by tiredness. How tf did this drug ever even get off the ground as an antidepressant at several times the dose I took last night? I know it basically flopped as an antidepressant, I'm shocked it even made it to large scale clinical trials, much less got put on the market. I'm taking 50mg for the express purpose of being knocked out and this is too much for me. submitted by /u/Excellent_Leek2250 to r/insomnia [link] [comments]

PSA from a veterinarian: just give the darn trazodone.
Hi there - I'm an emergency/urgent care veterinarian, graduated 8 years ago so I've been in the field quite a bit. I just wanted to share with you a personal experience followed by a strong recommendation. Read through, it's worth it, I promise. At age 19, I had wisdom teeth pulled x4. Three days later, I developed a headache...that never went away (suspected nerve damage but who the heck knows). I spent the next four years in/out of hospitals, getting spinal taps, MRIs, CT scans, the works. I had to drop out of college for a semester and lord only knows how I graduated and made it to vet school. Fast forward many years, I found a great neurologist who has my "new daily persistent headache" (which basically means...you've had a headache every day for 15 years but we don't know why) relatively under control on meds with a few flareups. But needless to say, I developed what I can only describe as PTSD related to the dentist, which honestly is not all that surprising. I have to egg myself on to get to the dentist (and I have a great one). I went three weeks ago for a cleaning, got a clean bill of health. Last week, a back molar started hurting. Went to the dentist yesterday. I was anxious going in but am usually able to talk myself down. I ended up needing to get prepped for a crown. Everyone was wonderful, and I mean truly wonderful. But I could feel my anxiety getting worse and worse (barely staving off a panic attack). I held it together until the end of the appointment, and then four hours later had a complete breakdown. Why do I bring this up? Because literally the only thing keeping me in that dentist chair was the semblance of control I had over the situation. I could tell them to stop at any time, and they would have listened. And that STILL wasn't enough for me to completely stave off intense feelings of panic and anxiety. Now picture your dog going to the veterinarian for a routine annual visit and vaccines, he's anxious, we try coaxing him/her to get on board with lots of praise and pets and yummy treats. But he's not having it. He's bucking and trying to flee the situation. He's not giving us great vibes, and our faces need to be near him to get the job done. While I know your dog probably doesn't act like this is any other situation, I have my face near your dog's mouth of giant, potentially life- or career-ending teeth. So we may ask to place a muzzle. I often get people offended and dismissive of the very real danger that we put ourselves in to take care of people's pets. I have had people tell me it is my job to get bitten. I had a friend mauled so severely by a dog, she needed to be gurneyed out of the hospital and ended up requiring months of rehab and several surgeries. And then the best statement always comes: "well, can't you just hold him down and do what you need to do?" I bring you back to my earlier story of myself at the dentist. I am a human being and can rationalize that the dental staff is trying to help me and I still ended up in a severe state of panic. Your dog cannot do the same. If we recommend stopping what we are doing, it is for your dog's best interest (and selfishly, ours sometimes too as we really don't like wrestling with 120 pound dogs on the floor when our backs are already shot). If we recommend stopping what we are doing and sending your pet home with trazodone and gabapentin to give before the next visit, we really are not trying to make your life harder. I am trying to avoid the same sense of panic that I feel going to the dentist in your dog. I am not trying to inconvenience you. I know 20 years ago, everyone just "held 'em down and got 'er done" but we don't do that anymore, and it's not fair to ask us to do so. Medicating your dog is for *your dog's* benefit so that they don't feel the crushing need to try and escape or defend themselves when we try to draw blood or give them a vaccine. So that's it, that's my TED talk. In summary, I ask you as a veterinarian who loves what I do and want to do what's best for everyone (including my staff that are paid a pittance compared to human nurses but do SO much more), including you, and most importantly, your dog. Just please don't argue with us. Give the damn trazodone and gabapentin and come back another day. Your dog (and this veterinarian) will thank you for it. ETA: This goes for gabapentin for the kitties as well! Don't want to leave those guys out. submitted by /u/nstarz6289 to r/Pets [link] [comments]

I can’t believe anyone takes Trazodone
Absolutely not knocking Trazodone if it works for you (awesome if it does), but daaamm it’s not for me. I took it for the first time last night (25 mg) and I feel like absolute dog shit today. This morning it was almost impossible to wake up even after two cups of coffee (I don’t usually even drink caffeine). It is now mid afternoon, and I still feel borderline anesthetized. And the headache - my god… one of the worst I’ve ever had. I will say it did put me to sleep and kept me knocked out through the night, which is amazing - but still absolutely not worth it for me. Zero stars! submitted by /u/hidemyemail555 to r/insomnia [link] [comments]

Tips for taking Trazodone
Because my issue is sleep anxiety, I prefer not to hear about negative experiences with trazodone. I want to go into it hopeful. My question is for those who have taken trazodone and had it work for them. Toward the end of August, I developed sleep anxiety. My GP was on maternity leave, so another doctor, through her office, prescribed klonopin for short-term use. Klonopin worked the first night I took it, but it didn’t work the second night. I finally figured out how to handle it so I would feel calm. It worked great. If I woke up in the middle of the night, I would go back to bed within a few minutes, and I had a restful, deep sleep. Eventually, another doctor prescribed Lunesta. Lunesta has never really worked for me. I woke up multiple times through the night and could only go back to sleep if I took another pill. I felt more forgetful the next day after I took Lunesta. I finally saw my GP in person, and we discussed different options. She sent a referral for CBT-I. I also took herbal supplements with Lunesta, like valerian root, melatonin, or l-theanine. My GP wanted me to stop taking everything, including the Lunesta. After three days of no sleep, I contacted her and asked if I could try an anti-depressant. I’ve always been hesitant about SSRIs in the past because I don’t want to be on something long-term. She recommended trazodone. She said I could start with 50 mg and take 100 mg if needed. I’ll admit, I cheat and still drink a small amount of tart cherry juice an hour before bed. The first night I took trazodone, it worked. I slept without my white noise machine and had a few hours of deep sleep. The next day, I asked my husband to pick up more tart cherry juice, but he brought home a different brand. I realized that it was cherry, apple, and pear juice. It had a ton of sugar, so I didn't want to drink it. I took 50 mg 30 minutes before bed. I felt tired but not as relaxed as the night before. I wasn’t able to fall asleep. Around two hours later, I took 25 mg of trazodone and drank some juice. I then went to another area of our house to sleep. I’ve always had lucid dreams, and with the hyperarousal I’ve been experiencing with sleep anxiety, sometimes I don’t realize I’m sleeping. It’s only later, when I think back, that I know I was dreaming if that makes any sense. So I guess I did finally get some sleep because I dreamt about interviewing Sidney Crosby. If you have or are currently taking trazodone, what routine has helped you? How soon before bed do you take it? Do you take it before or after a meal? Any tips would be helpful!! submitted by /u/bjornsecular to r/insomnia [link] [comments]

Burton Guster is home from a successful surgery! He’s had a small amount of food with his pain medicine and will get his gabapentin and trazodone in 2-3 hours. He didn’t want to drink water but he did lick an ice cube out of my hand :) thanks for all the love and good wishes for my bub!!

BEWARE OF TRAZODONE
Hey guys I had dpdr for about a year or two. I also have severe anxiety and insomnia. A doctor put me on Trazodone as well as many other medications for bipolar and anxiety. By the time the medicine kicked in I had no idea that the Trazodone was causing my dpdr. I went on for years thinking it would just be there forever. Once I went through several doctors one told me that Trazodone is an antidepressant, which can cause this foggy distant feeling. Once I stopped it… well let’s just say it’s been a whole new life. Please please, if your on any sleep or anti depression meds. Try coming off them, ESPECIALLY TRAZODONE!! submitted by /u/Remote_Breakfast713 to r/Depersonalization [link] [comments]

Anyone taking Trazodone? It's basically serotonin? Is it safe if I take it for a short while, like a month or so?
I'm having trouble sleeping. I tried many things (meditation, melatonin, passiflora, valerian,...). Doesn't seem to work on me, or I'm doing something wrong. So my doctor prescribed Trazolan 100 mg, which is now called Trazodon or Trazodone. So I went online and looked it up and it's an antidepressant! I'm not depressed, I just have a racing mind. Here is what I found online: Trazodone is an antidepressant that belongs to a group of drugs called serotonin receptor antagonists and reuptake inhibitors (SARIs). While trazodone is not a true member of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) class of antidepressants, it does still share many properties of the SSRIs. Trazodone is used to treat major depressive disorder. It may help to improve your mood, appetite, and energy level as well as decrease anxiety and insomnia related to depression. Trazodone works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural chemical (serotonin) in the brain. I'm not an expert - at all - but I try to stay clear of SSRIs. So is this SARI "Trazodon" okay if I take it for a month or so? submitted by /u/rdvw to r/insomnia [link] [comments]
