US banned sales of Ubiquiti routers. My router is now illegal...
Due to the recent ban on the sale of Ubiquiti routers, it's apparent that if this router I bought a year ago goes out on me, that I will have to switch brands/ecosystems. I'm not even sure what brands of routers are legal in the US anymore. Will Ubiquiti continue to provide software updates for the Unifi Dream Router 7? Will Cybersecure still be available on it? Is there a risk that in order for Ubiquiti to comply with US law, the put a backdoor that allows the government to intercept my Wireguard traffic? I'm not sure of what impacts this will have. submitted by /u/f00dl3 to r/Ubiquiti [link] [comments]

FCC Bans new Wi-Fi Router sales that are produced outside of the US
Would’ve thought just TP Link would be banned, but nope. This is definitely going to affect Ubiquiti since their products are made in Vietnam. This also sounds like it only applies to NEW Ubiquiti filings, I am thinking they are considered consumer Wireless Devices because not just enterprises can purchase it. submitted by /u/Goodoflife to r/Ubiquiti [link] [comments]

US FCC classifies "routers produced in a foreign country" as "prohibited from being imported for use or sale in the U.S". What will the impact be on Protectli, Ubiquiti and similar devices?
See the FCC's announcement: https://www.fcc.gov/document/fcc-updates-covered-list-include-foreign-made-consumer-routers You need to press on "Pdf" or "Docx" or "Txt" under "News Release" Separately, this is the FCC covered list: https://www.fcc.gov/supplychain/coveredlist Where it is stated "Routers^ produced in a foreign country, except routers which have been granted a Conditional Approval by DoW or DHS" are on the covered list. The ban only applies to new devices--so previous routers that have been approved do not get automatically banned. All Ubiquiti routers are made in China, Vietnam and Taiwan. All Protectli firewalls are made in China. Anyone got any idea whether it's now illegal to purchase any new devices from these companies? I am not a lawyer so I am hoping someone smarter here can correct me. Per the News Release: "What does this mean? "New devices on the Covered List, such as foreign-made consumer-grade routers, are prohibited from receiving FCC authorization and are therefore prohibited from being imported for use or sale in the U.S. This update to the Covered List does not prohibit the import, sale, or use of any existing device models the FCC previously authorized. "This action does not affect any previously-purchased consumer-grade routers. Consumers can continue to use any router they have already lawfully purchased or acquired. "Producers of consumer-grade routers that receive Conditional Approval from DoW or DHS can continue to receive FCC equipment authorizations. Ubiquiti UniFi Router vs. Traditional Gaming Router?
Is there any benefit of choosing a Ubiquiti UniFi router (e.g. such as the Ubiquiti UniFi Express 7) over a traditional Gaming router (i.e. this ASUS RT-BE82U Dual-Band WiFi 7)? UniFi Dream Router 7 One Year Later - Better, Worse, the Same?
Just made a vid on 1 year using the UDR7 that I thought some people on the fence about it still. Includes my own experiences + other users early pains + the updates since. Cheers to the following threads below. Gotta say, a year on, it seems like a more rounded solution for many. Ubiquiti Travel Router / UTR: Great Hardware, Half-Baked Software
Bought the Ubiquiti Travel Router and it feels half-baked. I genuinely don’t get the hype unless you need an expensive blue nightlight. The bad Display It’s useful for the initial setup, then it just sits there blasting bright blue all night for no reason. No button to turn it off. No “tap to wake” or anything to quickly check status when you actually want it. It’s a travel router—how often is the upstream RSSI or Teleport status changing in a way that matters minute-to-minute? Same with “X devices connected.” Cool stat, rarely actionable. Management No embedded web UI. Configuration is app-only, which is… a choice. The app is barebones: no current throughput, no per-client activity, no “who’s eating all the bandwidth,” nothing you’d expect from a router UI. The app is also flaky. Mine sits for several minutes and then asks for my UI.com login. I enter the password (from my password manager, and yes it’s correct), and it claims the password is wrong. So configuration is currently blocked behind an app login loop. Wi-Fi behavior No visibility/control over basics like bands/channels. You set an SSID and trust whatever it decides to do. That might be fine for casual users, but if you’re buying Ubiquiti gear, you probably care what it’s actually doing. Marketed as a road-warrior router, but it doesn’t cover real “on the road” authentication needs. At home I run WPA3-Enterprise; this isn’t replacing that experience when you’re dealing with more complex networks. The good It looks great. Industrial design is on point. Seeing upstream AP RSSI in STA mode is genuinely handy. Phone tethering works well (credit where it’s due). Bottom line Right now it’s not in the same league as GL.iNet travel routers. If a future version adds a small local web UI and exposes basic stats/control without forcing a brittle app flow, it could be interesting. As-is, app-only management plus missing visibility makes it hard to recommend. submitted by /u/radioactive_spunker to r/Ubiquiti [link] [comments]

Looking to upgrade my router (erro 7 vs Ubiquiti UniFi 7)
When I bought my router several years ago I didn't put much thought behind it. Walked into Costco picked up a TP link AC4000 and just went home lol. I started getting annoyed with companies losing our data and went down the route of self hosting my own services. Naturally now looking for a more secure router (I don't plan on exposing any of my hosted services). Funny enough didn't even know about the issues with TP link and them possibly getting banned in the US. After reading tons of posts/comments on here it seems the most common recommended brands are eero, Ubiquiti and Asus for security/features. For reference I have Verizon fios 500mbps and found these two routers at my local Microcenter that i could go pick up today. eero 7 ubiquiti Anyone have any experience with either of these? If you had good experience with another router would appreciate your input. submitted by /u/GetYourShitT0gether to r/HomeNetworking [link] [comments]

Ny Ubiquiti router/netværk
Hej DKTech, Jeg begynder at have stigende problemer mit netværk herhjemme. Alt input modtages med buk og tak! submitted by /u/Dafthacka to r/dktechsupport [link] [comments]

For those with early Ubiquiti Travel Routers running the 224 firmware, here's the fix . . .
Along with, apparently, a fair number of other purchasers of the utr, mine could not and would not upgrade to the later firmware releases. In multiple ticket exchanges with Unifi, I was instructed to reset the utr, re-download the unifi app, ssh into the utr and use the upgrade command and, most annoyingly, trying to upgrade from iOS version of the wifi app (I'm strictly Android/PC and I'm not about to buy an iPhone just to make a $79 product do what it is supposed to). Finally, after several days of this, Unifi provided the solution: Connect to your UTR via SSH. Once connected, copy and paste the following command: /etc/init.d/ulcmd stop; fw_setenv mtddevname && fw_setenv mtddevnum && fw_setenv mtdids && fw_setenv mtdparts && fw_setenv partition After the command finishes, upgrade via SSH using the upgrade command. This did the trick. I successfully upgraded the utr to the 238 firmware. Once done, I could upgrade to the 240 via the unifi app. With everything finally upgraded, the utr works perfectly. Edited to add: I've had multiple requests to provide the complete upgrade command for the utr. I will BUT first is the following disclaimer: I have no connection to Ubiquity and/or Unifi except as a customer. I've provided the solution to my issues that ui tech provided to me. It worked for me. I have no way of knowing if it will work for you. Use at your own risk. I am NOT responsible for any errors in this post or any damage, consequential or not, resulting from using the instructions herein. Use at your own risk. (Yes, I am a lawyer :) ). First, SSH into the UTR from a DOWNSTREAM device, i.e. one that relies on the utr as a gateway for its internet connection and NOT a device connected to another unifi router, e.g. the DMpro, to which the utr is also connected as a device. The SSH command from the downstream device consists of this: ssh ui@[ip address of utr gateway] In windows, you can find utr gateway address by opening a powershell window and typing: ipconfig I suspect it will usually be 192.168.2.1 but I only have experience with my own system. The ssh command would thus look like this: ssh [ [email protected]](mailto: [email protected]) The UTR will then ask you for a password, which should be the same as the password you used to connect the utr to the home router. Once successfully logged in, you will see a hinky linux prompt followed by a blinking cursor. The upgrade command is simple and works like this. At the prompt type the following: upgrade [fully-qualified URL to firmware on the ui.com website] The ui page for firmware can be found here: https://ui.com/download/releases/firmware In Windows, you can copy the link by right-clicking on the Download hyperlink and selecting Copy Link. For example: upgrade https://dl.ui.com/unifi/firmware/UTR/6.5.238.15208/BZ.ipq40xx_6.5.238+15208.251225.2129.bin That's it. The upgrade will commence, the utr will install the new firmware and restart and you're good to go. At that point, you can upgrade using the unifi app. submitted by /u/ptauger to r/Ubiquiti [link] [comments]

Ubiquiti Travel Router - Initial Impressions
I ordered the device when it became available on the Ubiquiti US store on 29 Dec. Selected the "normal" shipping, and it arrived on my doorstep today. I have been putting it through its paces now for a few hours. Here are a few of my thoughts. Let me know yours! Unboxing: Small box. Not a lot of fluff in there. Device, USB cable. Quick start guide. I like the size of the device. Small. Thin. Light. Easy to stash in my laptop bag for working remote. Print on the quick start is tiny! I am glad that I had seen a couple of YouTube videos, and Reddit posts beforehand on the initial setup. Initial Setup: On the initial setup I connected it to my folks’ Dream Router (the older version, but up to date version-wise), with a 1 GB fiber internet connection. My home connection is also 1 GB fiber (same ISP) with a UDM Pro (also up to date on firmware), and AP 6 Pro APs. Wired connections are to a 2.5 Mini POE, which is 2.5 GB connected to the UDM Pro SFP+ port (to RJ45). While connected to my home Unifi-based setup (wifi, or wireless) I was unable to “see” my home UDM Pro from the Unifi app/ UTR. Unifi app is installed on an up to date iPhone 17 (iOS 26.2) and is app version 10.31.3. Notes about the setup: Requires a phone and the Unifi app to be installed first. Then - once the device is powered on Bluetooth to connect. This is both a good and bad thing. I like the app for the ease of use, but I would also like a more “self contained” way to interface to the device. Like… a web interface like on the GL-Inet devices (and others). Seems like every time I make a configuration change the device needs to reboot? There seems to be a reliance on the Unifi Teleport VPN connection feature here. Helpful if you are already in the ecosystem, and are using this to connect back to a Unifi home or work network. There doesn’t seem to be a straight-forward way to review the firmware version, or change/ update the internal IP schema. I suppose Teleport just “figures this out” but the Network Engineer in me would like this to be more configurable. There are reports on the internet of people able to enable SSH to the device, but I (with the most recent Unifi app version) do not have the ability to turn that on, and have not (yet) tried to figure out how to use TestFlight to backer the Unifi app to a version that will allow it. I *think* I saw a way to setup a straight-up Wireguard connection before I associated it to my folks’ Dream Router. I might reset it and play around with those settings. But for now…. Not gonna worry about it too much. Performance Testing: All downloads are clocking ~80-90Mbps, while uploads are in the ~110Mbps range (according to SpeedTest). I performed a series of three tests in the following configurations: Outside of the UTR, my Speedtest results using a wired connection are up/ down ~900Mbps+, and wireless a little more variable (as expected) but in the ~700Mbps+ range with boring consistency. I do not keep detailed speed test trending on my folks’ internet connection, but a quick spot check shows ~450Mbps down, and ~800Mbps up (during prime Netflix watching hours). The configurations I tested are: Wifi downlink—> wifi uplink—> VPN (Teleport) connected to my folks’ Dream Router. Wifi downlink—> ethernet uplink—> VPN (Teleport) connected to my folks’ Dream Router. Ethernet downlink—> ethernet uplink—> VPN (Teleport) connected to my folks’ Dream Router. All tests using the UTR as configured yielded pretty consistent results in throughput with a plus or minus 10Mbps range. The only things that changed significantly were the latency and jitter. Heavy use of the wifi in the first configuration yielded WAY higher latency and jitter measurements, as expected. Stability: Aside from connection interruptions for each configuration change I noticed one drop in the last ~3 hours of use. That drop lasted maybe ~1 minute. DNS Leaking: I saw quite a lot of Reddit activity on this subject, and near as I can tell - once the VPN tunnel has been established all VPN requests are going through the tunnel. I can see a possible need, however, of the device to use non-tunnel DNS for the communication to Unifi’s Teleport service to broker the VPN connection. Maybe that is the source of the reported “leakage?” Just for kicks and grins I might take it to a more controlled environment where I can more closely monitor the uplink for DNS traffic. submitted by /u/CasherInCO74 to r/Ubiquiti [link] [comments]

Ubiquiti Travel Router and US Mobile
Can I use a device like the Ubiquiti Travel Router connected to my iPhone for USB tethering on US Mobile? I've seen other posts about travel routers needing by the gig plans so I'm not really sure. My understanding is that this applies to travel routers that have built in 5G modems, which the UTR does not. I have Unlimited Premium on Dark Star and was just hoping to use the Hotspot data when using this device (and not go against the TOS or get suspended). Alternative to Ubiquiti Unifi routers
Hello, I am a small MSP and have a few networks running mostly Unifi. The switches and Wi-Fi AP's are great, but I am noticing some issues with their firewalls. We had to change something on-site but just couldn't get it to work while other routers (Miktrotik, Draytrek) worked perfectly. The last few weeks I came across some other weird behavior and decided to look for alternatives. It runs pretty good if it runs, but if there is an issue or want to make a 'big' change it's starting to be a challenge. Also, if it appears to be a bug good luck reporting it and have it fixed. Their router line up just seem unfinished and buggy to me. What's the best alternative for Unifi routers in your opinion? I've did some searching for myself and found the Alta Lab router (Route10) but not sure if they have local management or not. Seems they are also managed through a controller. Would prefer to have both cloud management (centralized) and local management in case there's something wrong. TIA :) submitted by /u/Juggling_DNS_Records to r/msp [link] [comments]

FBI Disrupts Russian Malware on Ubiquiti Edge OS Routers
From the FBI today This botnet was distinct from prior GRU and Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) malware networks disrupted by the Department in that the GRU did not create it from scratch. Instead, the GRU relied on the “Moobot” malware, which is associated with a known criminal group. Non-GRU cybercriminals installed the Moobot malware on Ubiquiti Edge OS routers that still used publicly known default administrator passwords. GRU hackers then used the Moobot malware to install their own bespoke scripts and files that repurposed the botnet, turning it into a global cyber espionage platform.
