I clicked on the advertisement for steam deck in the steam app and it tells me its out of stock. The people on my screen look like they are having so much fun with it that I want in on the action too. I am left wondering if I am being duped and have to buy the ones from ebay that costs more. I feel kinda miserable as I want to be like those people in the ad. Is steam doing this on purpose so I have to buy the ebay version in order to have fun too? I think my Steam deck flipped out... In the best way possible! Id like to present the Flip Deck. After growing up with clamshell consoles as a kid, I needed to give my favorite handheld of all time the same treatment. This is 100% authentic and fully functional steam deck, everything working from the ambient light sensor down to the back buttons. Only thing that wouldn't fit was the original thumb sticks, but a few custom pcbs for that and the face buttons took care of it! It's a tiny bit taller, 4mm or so, but I was able to cut a full 100mm off of the length! I am in love with my steam deck, and further more, valve as a company. All of the things that happen behind the scenes that nobody will ever see or really know about. All of the hard work you guys have put in on steam os, proton, and now even fex with the latest planned VR, you guys have connected windows games to Linux and even ARM based devices, I see you guys putting in work! And 100x better than the 400 billion dollar company ever could. You guys care and I love it, and I'd love to be a part of your team at valve. Save me from the daily robot antics of society! Pretty much what the title said. I ordered a steam deck. it was delayed by a day because fedex got the address wrong. Then it arrived. Seems like the end of the story....then this morning another one shows up at my door. Both are addressed to me. I only ordered the one. Hey all, I recently purchased a steam deck and loved it so much I recommended to my friend. He recently placed an order for the 512gb OLED, however when he opened the package the deck had been replaced with an extension cable. Someone who works for the courier has clearly recognised the box, made the swap and resealed the package (the box also has two strips of tape to back this up, which was sent to valve). This was purchased directly from valve so the issue was raised with them on two separate tickets but both times they have said there is nothing they can do about it as they sent the package correctly and it was marked as delivered. He has filed a police report (valve are also aware of this and he offered to provide a crime reference) and contacted his bank and the courier but so far hasn’t heard back. He doesn’t use reddit so I suggested making a post to see if anyone here has any advice of anything more he can do? Better yet, make it the most boring, labelless shipping box that you possibly can. Make the actual product box the fun one. Please. I don't want to have to worry about this thing at my doorstep or in transit any more than the usual tech. Steam Deck was already popular enough for people to steal. This new wave is going to be even more popular. It will, without a single doubt, be an issue if these products ship with needless "fun" shipping labels all over them. Source: IGN article about Steam Machine I always docked my Deck to play on my TV with an Xbox controller around 50% of the time. Part of the appeal of Steam Deck for me was exactly the ability to dock it at the end of the day and play games on my TV. I've seen the sentiment on this subreddit that docking Deck to a TV is "pointless", "defeats the purpose", and that "no one is really doing that", which I always found really strange, as both myself and everyone I know with a Deck does this (granted, I only know 3 people with a Deck, but still!) Recently, I bought a Steam Deck on eBay because my girlfriend and I wanted to game together. Seemed like the perfect budget option. It arrived, and immediately… chaos. The thing kept crashing, and after each crash, a weird artifact would appear on the screen that wouldn’t go away until I rebooted. I work in IT so I took it as a personal challenge to fix it. I tried everything: fresh OS, fresh BIOS, different Protons… nothing worked. Frustrated, I went on Reddit and found someone with the exact same problem! Someone asked if they managed to fix it, and the reply was: “Couldn't find a fix so I sold it.” Curious, I checked the username… and yep. Same person who sold me the Steam Deck on eBay. Absolute legend. I contacted the eBay seller directly, and he claimed he “didn’t use it.” Sure, buddy. Before sending it back, I reached out to eBay and Steam support. eBay’s advice? “Return it.” Thanks. Steam support, on the other hand, took pity on me & gave me a free warranty. Sent it in for RMA, and they sent me back a fixed, working Steam Deck. Moral of the story: Some people are shady on eBay & Steam support rules! My wife and I went on vacation and she asked my brother in law to stop by and feed the turtle while we were out. I guess he set the heat lamp she uses on top of the steam deck in it's case for some reason, and forgot to put it back. Anyhow the lamp was on a timer so for 4 days it boiled my deck for 12 hours straight. I pre-ordered this 512 gb LCD the day it was launched and used it extensively for several years. I haven't had too much time to use it lately, but it was a beloved part of my life. I guess I should just be glad I'm replacing a deck and not my entire apartment. Any chance Valve can fix this? I lost my job the day after Christmas for an unjustified reason, and while the vacation was already paid for, things have been stretched thin ever since and will continue to be for a while. Just keep getting kicked entering this 2025.
