Where to find cabin/mountain home decor?
For living so close to the mountains, I’m really struggling to find cabin-inspired home decor in this city 😭 Think fur throws/pillows, plaid blankets, vintage camp lanterns, landscape art, old skis or snowshoes, log stump sidetables, that kind of thing. Does anyone know of any places? Thanks so much in advance! submitted by /u/princesscalaviel to r/Calgary [link] [comments]

A little look at my vintage Halloween decor 🎃
I am far too excited for this years Halloween so I’m showing off a bit from last year. This is a look at my vintage collection. I got a lot of this from people I know, flea markets and a few things from online. I just love feeling like a kid again and creating that nostalgia in my home during the holidays. Home Decorating in Parallel Poly - picture displays hitting a very tender spot for me
Edit: I really appreciate all the responses here, it’s given me a lot more to reflect on. I think the bottom line in this situation is: in a relationship where my partner constantly stresses non-hierarchy and keeping things quite equal between me and meta (despite the obvious built in hierarchy) to make sure that nobody comes off as more important or as the primary partner (which actually annoys me to a point sometimes) it was very jarring for me, already feeling overwhelmed based on other creeping feelings mentioned in this post and the responses, to walk in on a suddenly very UNbalalnced display of their affection that also happened to be very close to my heart. One aspect I did not go into too much is that there is a sense since day 1 that Meta is always pushing for my partner to balance scales - what I have she too must get (based on things both my partner and she has said to me herself I get this picture) - so this just felt hypocritical. It felt very pointed at me for him to go against his own philosophy and put up so many pictures of Meta and his adventures (after previously taking ours down!) without thinking of also doing the same for me, or at least giving me any warning. For someone who stresses equality so much since becoming a Hinge, it was sending a message, intentional or not. My request to keep my photos down AFTER the discussion w/ Butter is fair to protect my heart but points to work that needs doing. Besides that, feelings of uncertainty and fear around the trajectory of Butter and Cream’s relationship are contributing factors to my distress. Thank you for all the wisdom, I am going to be reflecting more and having some chats with partner around the topic and implications. Also not sure why but my first point detailing who is who and what kind of relationships we have keeps getting auto? deleted. No idea what that is about… — I wanted to reach for some support around a topic that seems small but has been making some waves with me recently. This is half-vent just to get it out, half open request for insight. Would love if anyone can empathize and offer a wisened view on matters of this nature, specifically or more broadly and perhaps some words of encouragement. Facts: My partner of 4 years, Butter, and I are long distance, I make it to his place for a visit only once every 1.5-2 months, though he visits my city a little more frequently. Butter has been with my Meta Cream for 2 years, they live in the same city but don’t nest. Cream and I are parallel. Everyone is seriously involved and we aim to be non-hierarchical, despite the different nature of the relationships. For context: since Cream came into the picture, I slowly adjusted to the new experience of having Butter’s home change and fill with her things and influences every time I come back. After all, she is his local partner so she spends far more time there. Because I’m pretty new to this, sometimes it was hard feeling - like Cream was taking over this space and there wasn’t as much room for me as there was in the past. I felt intimidated and jealous of her presence in his day to day life, which I have been dealing with. Butter and I travel a lot, and he introduced me to analogue photography early on, suggesting we start to take photos on our adventures and have them developed, creating collections and sometimes displaying those photos around our homes. Recently Butter also got me a cool vintage camera for this. At one point months back Butter took down several of these photos of us he had displayed near his bed. He alluded to how it was awkward for he and meta to see my face while having sex, but he didn’t move them elsewhere, just put them away. That felt raw at the time, but I understood. Since then over time a few random photos appeared of Cream in the space, but between she and I there was were only a couple per each left up. Cut to past weekend - I visited Butter for the first time in a while, longer away than we normally go. Entering the space this time was very jarring for me. Partly because he and Cream had done a fair bit of redecorating and it felt different, but what caused the real drama in me was the explosion of analogue pictures. I learned in this moment that on their most recent trips they had started up the same tradition that Butter and I share. This was evidenced by the expanded collection of recently developed pictures affixed throughout the space, everywhere I looked. Because Cream and I are parallel, I don’t see much from their private moments / relationship. I tend to avoid her social media and generally my partner doesn’t share on his these days. When I do see something, sometimes I have a little panic moment, deal with it on my own time, and move on. But seeing all of this in my partners place after a long hiatus of being there / feeling alien & vulnerable there as it was — it threw me over a poly cliff. I suddenly felt very competitive, felt like there was a point being made, by Butter and Cream. There were the same couple photos of me / our life there had been, but hers were suddenly everywhere. As the LDR partner, who already has less of a presence in his home, this felt like confirmation that this is her place, I am only a visitor in their life and don’t belong enough to have my pictures up - a feeling I have struggled with before. I thought back to Butter taking mine down and suddenly felt awful. Learning that they were sharing this activity was also not easy to swallow, though understandable, because for me it was unique even though for Butter it’s nothing new. All of this culminated in some deep feelings and emotional outbursts, the main one being that I took down the few remaining pictures of MYself, which hurt and confused Butter. After apologizing for this and talking a bit with Butter I asked him to leave the photos down and leave our analogue pictures off of display for a while. We agreed it is ultimately his house and he can do what he wishes, but this request was the one I felt comfortable with making, given it’s me in the pictures. He was resistant at first but did agree. Why did I make this request? I admit it feels ironic, antithetical, that me feeling overwhelmed by meta’s presence led to a request to further minimize my own— but honestly it felt like the only thing I could ask for to mitigate some of the discomfort of having this very unsubtle visual comparison of mine and my meta’s relationships. It feels safer to me knowing that I made the request to not have our pictures up instead of being hit with this bomb every few months of overthinking - wondering what it means how my partner decorates, what it says based on how many pictures, the content, what meta is thinking about it etc etc. All of that overthinking I was doing and the hurt I was feeling largely went away when I assimilated to the idea I wouldn’t have to deal with making those comparisons next time I come back, nor could anyone else who might try - like whatever competitive feelings were rising, I’d shut down the game entirely and walked away. Tangentially, I’m also not feeling very excited about doing this activity with Butter anymore right now, because as I’m sure you can see, I struggle with feeling special inside polyamory. With Cream, based on a few things that have happened, I have this nagging feeling that the best parts of my relationship are on a menu for them to sample. That feeling does really get to me. To complete the metaphor, am I the kind of person who gets annoyed when someone orders the same as me at dinner? Or buys the same shoes? Yes, ridiculous as that may seem. And I fully acknowledge that’s a me problem. That said, taking and developing pictures is not exactly a unique activity, I know. It just happens that I hadn’t done it with anyone before Butter, and I took pleasure and romance in feeling like it was a ritual that belonged to us. Not to mention because we see less of each other it felt comforting to me at one point to have this visual signifier of our relationship on display to balance the fact we are not seeing one another day to day in our homes. Butter kind of squashed that when he took down the photos before, and made sure I had only as many up as meta, usually right next to each other- EQUAL PROOF OF BOTH GIRLFRIENDS and the AFFECTION FOR THEM. I guess recent events were partly triggering bc seeing how many more photos he had of their stuff now felt like a visual confirmation of how much more they’re actually together, the exact thing my pics used to comfort me about. Finally, for clarity - I know my partner is not trying to send a message with his decorating choices. I am an overthinker. He is not. So all of this hardly occurs to him, he isn’t always able to predict how small things might hit. He was very understanding in appeasing me with the temporary removal of our pictures. In their place I offered that he could display my drawings, or small gifts I’ve made, things that still feel unique, are more subtle, and don’t generate the same competitive feelings (until I’ve processed all this). I guess I’m ready to hear if that is unreasonable of me. I feel like this sub might roast me for all this, but please be kind. I mean it when I say the change helped, and I’m analyzing what that means and how to go forward. I know my partner is rethinking some things, maybe a warning for me before visually processing all the changes at his place upon arrival - and he certainly doesn’t want to keep pictures of me away forever. Anyways, if you’ve made it to the end thanks for reading and I appreciate any feedback, comfort, commiseration, and gentle criticism ❤️ submitted by /u/GuaranteeWeekly3245 to r/polyamory [link] [comments]

My Vintage / Boho / Eclectic home ✨
I posted my bedroom a while back and someone said my style looked sterile so I figured I’d just debunk that lol. Here’s my home! I moved in about year and a half ago and have been thrifting and decorating ever since. I’m so proud of how it’s looking so far ! I’m inspired by the eclectic, vintage/antiques, jungalow vibes and maximalism of course. This is my version of organized chaos 💗 submitted by /u/JVZMINA to r/maximalism [link] [comments]

Anyone else decorating their home with secondhand or auction finds?
I’ve been trying to make my place feel more personal without buying everything brand new. A lot of my decor lately has come from thrift stores, local finds, and even a few live auctions on whatnot. I’ve found things like lamps, small shelves, wall art, and random decor pieces that just add way more character than big box store stuff. Some items need a bit of cleaning or light DIY, but that’s part of the fun for me. Curious how others here approach home decor. Do you mostly buy new, or do you mix in secondhand, vintage, or auction finds to make your space feel more unique? submitted by /u/charlemagne_74 to r/JustForHome [link] [comments]

Went to the thrift today- yikes
My adult son and I enjoy thrifting even though we usually don't buy anything. We didn't purchase anything today either but it felt different, now that I really understand how much of this stuff will end up in the landfill. There were tons of Christmas decorations- figurines, wreaths, stocking hangers, lights, greenery, etc. None of it looked more than a year or two old. Also tons of Christmas sweaters and pajamas, mostly thin and cheap. You want cookie cutters? They have them. Serving platters? Go to the thrift. Everyone who got a coffee cup last Christmas has apparently donated it. Real art apparently does not exist anymore. Everyone buys "art" at Home Goods or TJ Maxx and then ditches it in a year or two. There was just an overwhelming amount of stuff, and most of it was almost new. I've been thrifting since the 80s. You used to be able to get high quality vintage goods at the thrift store. I feel like those days are over. The parking lot was PACKED. We left empty handed. It was good to get out of the house but honestly this was a little unsettling. submitted by /u/No_Goose_7390 to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

AIO: I refuse to allow my husband's choice of "home decor"
Over the last year, our family moved from the western US to the southern US. I've had fun including works by local artists and framed old maps in our new home. The other night my husband said he wants to get one of those signs from the early 1900s that says "Beware of pickpockets and loose women." I was disgusted and told him no way. I think that sign and everything about its message & implications is misogynistic and demeaning. Absolutely not. He argued back that it's "historical," so that makes it okay and a fun vintage novelty item. I pointed out numerous examples of other "historical" signs you might find in the south that are abhorrent (think blatantly racist), and that his sign isn't much better. He insists that I'm overreacting and that I should lighten up. Am I overreacting, or is this sign grossly misogynistic? submitted by /u/Commercial_Stay1981 to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

I Just Need to Say It. I Fucking Love the UK
I need to put this into the universe. I absolutely love your country. I cannot stay away. Every country has its merits, of course. I’ve seen some incredible things as I travel. Historic medieval towns, amazing architecture, jaw dropping world famous art pieces, ancient ruins, etc. But the UK just hits different. Even with the tree lined streets and the music and the aperitivos, none of those places hold a candle to how I feel when I’m here. Every time I come back, I try to go somewhere new. I’ve been to the southern coast and Brighton, wandered London, gone all the hell the way out to Margate, explored bits of the north (not Scotland yet), ol Manny and Liverpool, and now I’ve come all the hell the way over to St Ives. And what gets me every single time is the people, the culture, the beer, and yes, the food. In a lot of countries, when you’re travelling solo, it’s easy to feel alone. But in the UK, I never feel that sense of hopeless aloneness because people are so willing to help. It’s offered politely, willingly, without making you feel stupid or like a burden. (Okay, maybe not in the very heart of London, but London makes up for it by having every cultural event imaginable happening every two feet, every day.) Even when I stay in smaller towns, quieter places, or spots that are cheaper, near bigger cities, there’s this sense that something interesting has always happened there. There’s always a plaque about an interesting and usually important bit of history, or ruins from some ancient pagan religion, which blows my mind every time. The landscape. The rolling fields, the sheep, the stone walls that have been standing for centuries, all the way over to the phone booths and double decker busses, the Dr Who shit, the Beatles, the British cartoon characters in vintage shops, the tea. The meal deals and the M&S ready food. How you call them wheelie bins instead of garbage. How some people have a washing up bowl. The differing accents that tickle my ears. How you “pop round to the shops” instead of driving to the store. The different taps for hot and cold. The friendly little house spiders. The ubiquitous and artistic wildlife home decor. The historical mysteries and the checkered past of some of the rulers. I fucking love it all. And about the food. It pisses me off when people trash UK food. They’ve clearly never been here. What the hell is wrong with potatoes, chips, cheese, fried fish, meat pies, beer, crumpets, scones, clotted cream, afternoon tea… everybody likes that shit and if they say they don’t, they’re lying. A place that Mary Berry calls home has to have good food. & it’s very interesting to eat these pies & other pub food that originated in times gone by, I feel closer to history when I get a chance to have a pie and a pint & imagine how things used to be. I’m not under any illusions that the UK is some magical land where everyone is perfect, every country has its weirdos. But the overwhelming feeling I get here is welcome. Not just that I’m happy to be here; it feels like people are happy that I’m here as well. Today I came over from Bristol Airport to Cornwall, and honestly, I only made it because of the kindness of several strangers. The last train was held for us and I have a lot of shit and several people helped me rush to the connection with all my shit. That kind of thing does happen in the US every now and then where I’m from, but here it feels more instinctive and more common. If you’re struggling, someone will just step in. People go out of their way, and they do it with such a natural warmth. Plus you all are so funny, and you don’t take yourselves too seriously, which is a refreshing change from the US. I know the saying is stiff upper lip but the joy is contagious seeing groups of friends of all ages embrace a night out and the joy in being together so publicly and it’s really heartwarming honestly. Im a little devastated that I have no pathway to immigration here to be totally honest. I guess I’ll just have to keep visiting! ❤️ submitted by /u/Unhappy_Performer538 to r/CasualUK [link] [comments]

Mistake or can this table be saved?
I feel like I should’ve consulted this subreddit before making this purchase, but alas — here we are. 😂 I bought this vintage dining table with smoked glass panels and curved wooden legs thinking it would add character to my home. Now that it’s in the room, I’m struggling to tell if it actually works or if it’s just overpowering everything. The walls are a warm brown with white trim, and I can swap out chairs or decor if needed — I’d just love guidance on whether to style it differently or admit it’s not the right fit. Appreciate any advice from the design-minded among you! submitted by /u/RevolutionaryCar4635 to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

So happy, I just finished my remodel! (After and Before)
The original kitchen was circa 1991. The cabinets were MDF with fake wood grain vinyl coatings, the space utilization was awful, and I hated the old electric stove in the island. I pushed into the garage slightly to recess the fridge, which really opened things up. The best part is I was able to do the whole thing for just over $50k, appliances included. (The stove is a used Wolf, and the fridge & dishwasher are scratch and dent). I did everything except the countertops and the cabinet doors/faces/drawers. Appliances: Monogram 42" fridge. Wolf 48" dual fuel stove. Bosch 800 series DW. KitchenAid oven-style microwave. Cabinets: Cabinetjoint/Conestoga "Madison" doors, faceframes/doors/drawers/hardware. I built the carcasses, vent hood, shelves, and painted all with a Graco X5 sprayer (Sherwin Williams Gallery in Greek Villa, Morning at Sea). Countertops: Quartzite "Bellagio" (natural stone similar to granite, but looks more like marble). Faucets: Moen Weymouth and Meena. Pot-filler was a cheap Amazon model. Hardware: The Brass Addict Lacquered brass "Amble" pulls. Lights: Eloise collection from Monulo. Tile: Floor & Decor subway - Zellige Pearl(white), Adessi La Jolla (blue). Centerpiece above stove: Topcu Georgia Main sink: Mondawe 36" workstation. Side sink: Orlando 13" undermount. submitted by /u/digitalis303 to r/kitchenremodel [link] [comments]

My antique-styled microwedding was almost entirely DIY ($2500 cost).
Sooo happy with how everything turned out! My wedding was tiny (8 people including us) so I was able to DIY everything without much stress. Things I did and tips: All the food: I kept to very simple recipes for the appetizer table. Shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, lemon possets, charc board (I didn’t diy this but I should have), and buttered radishes. All went with the vintage garden party vibe For dinner I made a big tray of eggplant parm and stuffed peppers a week ahead because it freezes so well. On the side was a super simple lettuce salad and bread. I also made our spumoni ice cream wedding cake which was a huge hit. Also could be made a week ahead which helped so much! Beverages: Italian soda bar and self serve alcohol! This was one of the favorites for the day. I bought a ton of syrups, cream, and garnishes and had San pellegrino at the ready. We put out a bunch of alcohol we already had so people could add it to the sodas if they wanted. Decor: we collect antiques so I didn’t have to buy a ton BUT anything I did buy, I bought cheap from estate sales, thrift stores, and antique malls. I only bought things I knew I would keep and use later which helps me rationalize the purchases. Main things I bought were a huge antique china set for $100, a box of vintage linens for $5 (oxiclean will help you here), an antique silk umbrella for $25, Victorian jewelry boxes for $20, and a set of silverplate cutlery for $30. Dress: I bought a sample fit & flare dress for $175. The butt was too small so I asked my seamstress neighbor what we could do; we chopped the dress in half and made a two piece corset and high-low skirt ensemble. I was super lucky and my neighbor did it for free! Venue: We are involved with our local historical society and live close to a beautiful historic mansion. We were able to do our quick ceremony and photos for nothing; that said we are working to become helpers at this place so YMMV, but I highly recommend asking your local historical society if they have any spaces you can use for the cost of a donation! The indoor photos are all in our historical home, which again we are very lucky to have. Florals: This was maybe my proudest DIY. I bought two double sized bouquets from Urban stems which were on sale and I had a coupon. I also ordered 17 stalks of delphinium from my local florist which they just gave to me at wholesale price. The greenery was foliage from my backyard pear tree. Otherwise I bought floral kit and floral chicken wire. Total spend was about $300 and I spent about 3 hours making one huge centerpiece, a medium centerpiece, a small centerpiece, a bridal bouquet, and a boutonnière. I am currently hanging the flowers to dry and I’ll make a display to sit under a cloche on my shelf. Guest favors: since we had such a small guest list I was able to go all out. Our friends like plants and gardening so I bought vintage berry baskets, homemade gardeners soap, botanical misters, and tiny antique French flower pot, and Leone mints. Each guest also got a Leone pastilles box on their plates for after dinner. Photography: Important note: our friends are artists and designers. I fully trust their artistic abilities and asked them to take our photos! I took most of the detail/setups/food/attire shots. We used our phones but I also shoot film, so I handed out film cameras prior for folks to use too. One of the best events of the evening was our photo “studio” setup, where we took old-timely photos of people and gave them full access to all our antiques as props. People had so much fun with this! We will be sending them prints as thank yous, and using photos taken of us in the “studio” as our announcements. submitted by /u/Current_Cost_1597 to r/DIYweddings [link] [comments]

Male 54, recently separated after 35 years of marriage
When my wife moved out, I embraced the chance to completely reimagine my living space. While she prefers a sleek, modern style reminiscent of a resort hotel, I chose to lean into my passion for high-quality, solid wood antique and vintage furniture, complemented by thoughtful decor. Tomorrow will be special, as the fine china and sterling silver that have sat unused for years will finally take center stage. My family is gathering to celebrate Christmas early, since my daughter, who works in the medical field, has to work on the holiday itself. A few months ago, I shared photos of this transformation (in the wrong group, admittedly) and faced unexpected criticism. It was a wake up call though as it made me realize I have to go fully into it. Over the past year, I’ve carefully curated each piece of furniture and every collection you see. It’s been a true labor of love, and this space now feels like a cozy home—a reflection of what truly brings me joy. submitted by /u/stuckonline to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

We leave cards for people who decorate their homes in my neighborhood.
For the last two years, we’ve been leaving vintage-style Halloween postcards at the homes in my neighborhood that have decorated for Halloween. I include a message thanking them for their efforts and reminding them how important Halloween is. I always run out, I’ll need to order a lot more next year. submitted by /u/MorgessaMonstrum to r/halloween [link] [comments]

What is your home decor style?
When thinking about "simple living" I often correlate it to vintage/cozy/grandma home decor or, in the opposite spectrum, minimalist. I'm curious, what's your style? submitted by /u/Jaded_Yoghurt2321 to r/simpleliving [link] [comments]
