I’m redecorating my home (mid century modern/Scandinavian) and would love to display my 2016 aluminium Rimowa. It’s covered in travel stickers from the last 10 years and has a lot of sentimental value. Right now it just looks like I haven’t unpacked from a trip. I’d like it to feel like an intentional decor piece instead. I’m looking for creative, non-destructive ideas since I don’t want to drill into or modify the suitcase. At first I really loved the look of vintage decor then with time realized I really loved a cottage core design. The floating shelves hold old photos of our grandparents and great grandparents. After a few days ng pagoverthink sa design, sa pagdoubt if worth it ba talaga yung apartment, and sa pagakyat ng furnitures and appliances sa second floor, my apartment finally feels like a home. Sobrang happy ko na nagkatotoo yung vision that I had in my head. My mornings feel so much more peaceful. As someone na first time magrent and first time maglive alone, designing my own space and buying my own furniture and decor feels like a dream come true. And eventhough maliit lang yung space, it feels like it’s perfect for me. He was a very good woodworker and the dresser has hand carved details. It is a very nice dresser. My son loved it and was going to take it with him when he moved out, sadly due to a tornado the dresser was very badly damaged when our roof fell. So when he moved out after college their was not reason to take the busted dresser and it stayed in our new garage collecting dust. I could not bring my self to toss it. My son is now married and they moved into their forever home. He mentioned that he it was upsetting that their kid won’t have anything like his dresser growing up. My son wished he could have passed it down since his grandpa is dead ( my father who made the dresser). My son mentioned trying to make something small but he is not very good at building stuff. I decided to see if it could be repaired ( I didn’t have high hopes) and contacted a few people. There was one guy that was willing to give it a try. In the end he was able to keep a lot of the original wood ( including my dad’s stamp) and most of the original carvings at the bottom. He replaced what was needed and it looks great. He even craved in new engravings from pictures. I invited them both to dinner and I gave my son the gift. He loved it, and took it home that night He sent me a few pictures of it in the nursery. This is the issue, my DIL sent me a very long text about a week after about giving him the dresser for the nursery. She was pissed that she wasn’t informed and that it doesn’t match the room ( the dresser wood doesn’t really match becuase the whole room is very light) That I had no right to try to decorate their house, that she hates it in the nursery and it is causing marriage problems. She told me that I need to take it back. I told her no and if my son wishes to give it back then he can but I will not ask for it back. She called me a jerk. Over the last year, our family moved from the western US to the southern US. I've had fun including works by local artists and framed old maps in our new home. The other night my husband said he wants to get one of those signs from the early 1900s that says "Beware of pickpockets and loose women." I was disgusted and told him no way. I think that sign and everything about its message & implications is misogynistic and demeaning. Absolutely not. He argued back that it's "historical," so that makes it okay and a fun vintage novelty item. I pointed out numerous examples of other "historical" signs you might find in the south that are abhorrent (think blatantly racist), and that his sign isn't much better. I got my ability to see color back I decided to to go with my love of color and stop being afraid. I created a space with all the colors and things that bring me happiness. I guess I’d consider myself a maximalist but also I want a home that feels happy and creative. I’ve (M32) been with my girlfriend (F29) for over a year now. She’s smart, funny, a bit quirky, and has a serious job with a good salary. We have a great time together and generally get along very well. The only thing is her choice in home ‘decor’ is bizarre, to put it frankly, and not something you think a normal, grown adult would be into. Her apartment is definitely a reflection of herself and interests. Not in the best way though. My girlfriend has wall dedicated to animation in one room of her apartment, like Futurama pieces and etchings of some weird triangle guy. Then there’s the wall of framed preserved insects in another room. But not insects like butterflies or moths. Instead she displays tarantulas, beetles, and large stick insects. Her bathroom has a subtle theme of the ocean-pretty common. But instead of starfish or shells, she has a little anglerfish nightlight, a small vampiric squid painting, and then a framed diagram of what apparently is a Goblin Shark right by the toilet. I would say a majority of her home decor and furnishings are okay. The apartment itself is very modern and sleek. It’s just the random decor and juvenile-ish themes like cartoons, insects, and bizarre ocean creatures, is off putting. This is where I might be the AH. I avoid bringing people over to her place, especially people from my job, because of how juvenile it looks. Everyone’s impressed when they see the high rise, but that quickly fades once you enter. The one time I brought a work colleague over they ended up telling me after that they found her insect wall terrifying. I work in finance and appearances and first impressions are important. My office will hold casual gatherings where we get together for a few drinks, good food, and we rotate hosts. And this time, it’s my turn. The problem is my place is under some construction and not an ideal place to be right now, so I’ve been staying with my girlfriend. My girlfriend suggested that we host my colleagues here since she has the space and thinks it’ll be fun. I told her I planned on skipping my rotation and seeing if the next person would be okay with hosting early. She kept pressing on why I didn’t want them over here, so I finally said it’s because her home decor is strange and not something a grown woman would have, and also that her insect wall horrified the one colleague that did come over. My girlfriend got mad and said at the end of the day, it’s not my space and these things bring her joy. She also said that she is indeed an adult woman, which is exactly why her apartment is decorated in such a manner. I love my girlfriend, I do. And it’s okay to have different interests. But does an adult really need to decorate with them besides a few things here and there? I mean, my own mother asked if my girlfriend was autistic after she saw the entire apartment for the first time.
