AITA for kicking everyone out after my sister lied and said my apartment was hers?
I (23F) live alone in a decently nice apartment, and i’m proud of it. My sister, “Amelia” (20F) lives at home, we’ve always been very close so I gave her a key for convenience and emergencies. Since I moved in about 10 months ago, Amelia has been coming over a lot. At first it was nice, but now it’s almost daily. I work long hours and value my space and privacy, so this has been a little frustrating for a while, but I tried to be understanding because I know she really wants to move out too. Over the past 2-3 months, Amelia’s been obsessed with my apartment and its “aesthetic”. She constantly comments on how she would decorate differently or suggests that “we” should move furniture around. I usually brushed it off as jokes. It didn’t really start to get weird until I started coming to her in my apartment after letting herself in while I wasn’t home. A few times I had noticed she rearranged little things, it bugged me but I didn’t outwardly confront her because it wasn’t worth a fight with her. About two weeks ago, Amelia and I were at a mutual friend’s party and I overheard her talking to someone about “her new apartment”, and when I walked up her friend said something like “it looks nice from the pictures”. Which made me think she was showing people my place and telling them it’s hers. A few days later I came home early from work and she was on my couch with a girl i’ve never met. Amelia looked obviously shocked and left quickly to “go shopping”. It happened AGAIN a few days later with our two cousins instead, but she didn’t seem to care that I came home this time. I texted her later and asked her to ask me before inviting anyone over to MY apartment, and all she said was “K”.. After that I assumed all was well, she was still over a lot, but she was acting… oddly nice. I found this weird and was immediately suspicious, but from what I could tell she wasn’t doing anything strange. Boy was I wrong. Last night I came home after a 12 hour shift and she was there again. But this time, with FIVE friends playing a drinking game in my living room. I was exhausted and LIVID. I told them all to leave. Amelia tried to talk to me in the kitchen but I wasn’t having it, I told them again to leave and one of her friends asked why I was there. In MY apartment. I lost it. I yelled “because I live here. Amelia lives with our parents now get the fuck out”. They left quickly but my family is now saying that I embarrassed her in front of her friends, and Amelia is “humiliated”. I honestly don’t think I did anything wrong, but my family is saying my sister is devastated. I’m not even sure what to do from here. I tend to overreact sometimes, but this was wild. And very out of character for my sister. AITAH? submitted by /u/Top-Supermarket8754 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AIO for thinking that my girlfriend's apartment requirements are insane?
So me and my girlfriend are looking to move in together in NYC and honestly I'm starting to lose my mind over this whole apartment hunt. She's set on finding a place that's 9-15k a month which like okay I can maybe swing 9k (I have won some $ on stake) but 15k is absolutely wild for rent even in this city. But that's not even the worst part...she has this massive list of requirements that seems to grow every day. She wants 3 bedrooms minimum, outdoor space (good luck finding that for under 20k), specific closet configurations, and I swear she mentioned something about crown molding yesterday. I'm sitting here thinking we could find a decent 2 bedroom for way less and be totally fine but she acts like I'm asking her to live in a cardboard box. Every time I suggest compromising on literally anything she gets this look like I just insulted her entire family. Am I being unreasonable for thinking maybe we should prioritize not going completely broke over having a spare bedroom we'll never use? She does work really hard btw I don't want to shit on her. But I pay for 70% of everything including proposed rent. submitted by /u/MoonlitParcel to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

Left a man I just met sleeping in my apartment
I am living alone for the first time in a while and went on a first date. I suggested he come over to swim at my place, and then we could go out for drinks. However, he told me as I was coming back from work that he had brought his bags. I guess I thought he would leave after, but he didn't. Anyway, the next morning we had a very good time, it was a lot of fun, but I had to leave for work this morning, and he is still at my place. I left at 8:30. It is now 9:30. I messaged him to please turn off the AC before he leaves and to say I had a great time. However, he has not answered at what point I should freak out and believe he is robbing me. Or do people think he just genuinely slept in that long? Maybe I can drive home at lunch and see. Anyways any advice would be great, I will also accept people telling me how stupid I am. I at least took my passport, cards, money, and electronics with me to work, so the important stuff is safe. Edit: I feel like I should clarify he is solo travelling across Asia and thats why he had bags. Update: Didn't expect such varied advice. Um, anyway, it's enough for me to be spiralling, so I called him, and there was no response. I then texted him, "you alive" as one person suggested. Idk, maybe some people sleep in until 10:30, and we were up until like 3 am, but I don't think it's normal to sleep in that long at someone else's house. He just called me back and said that he just woke up, and to be fair, it sounded like it. I am still going to go back at lunch, but he said he would leave soon. Update 2: I got home and he literally made the bed and did dishes so kind. I think I was just hungover and anxious because of it. But I am very much safe and he is gone. Sorry to all the people who like to sleep in that I offended I just normally wake up with the sun that’s why it seems so foreign to me, but also maybe it’s more culturally normal in North America to sleep late into the day during the week. submitted by /u/Revolutionaries14 to r/Advice [link] [comments]

My apartment had roaches so I made a transparent apartments website for RVA
I just graduated from VT and moved to RVA last year. I spent weeks looking for my first apartment and within 24 hours of moving in I found out I had roach roomates. I managed to get out of that lease eventually, but with my current one ending soon, I didn’t want to make the same mistake again, so I built an RVA apartments website focused on transparency. It basically shows you everything leasing companies don’t want you to see. Flags problematic words in reviews (like roaches, thin walls, etc.) Shows anytime an apartment was mentioned in this subreddit Shows reviews for management companies (across all properties) Collects reviews from Google (even if properties have them deleted) Records price history and changes over time Shows prices and availability updated daily Records all known fees and lets you calculate cost Allows you to compare apartments side-by-side Plus all the normal info you would see on apartments.com or google But most importantly, it’s not and never will be controlled by leasing companies. It’s independent, unbiased, and renter-first. So far I’ve collected data on 150+ properties in richmond and I’m adding more daily. If you’re looking to move soon, check it out at insiderRVA.com P.S. Besides adding more properties, I want to keep making more improvements to the site, so let me know if you have any ideas. I like filming so I’m considering going to properties to record unbiased tours/reviews and putting that on the site. EDIT: Thank you everybody for the nice comments! If you want to submit reviews or data about fees you can do that on the individual property pages. If you have suggestions for apartments to add you can submit them here https://www.insiderrva.com/submit-property anything else email me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) Also, the site is pretty decent on mobile, but way better if you have a chance to access it on a computer EDIT 2: wtf is going on I thought this would get like 20 upvotes. I can't thank you guys enough. Someone asked for a link to support the project so I'm adding it here. Please do NOT feel obligated to contribute, I can cover my costs for now and either way I'm going to keep working on the site. BUT if you are a landlord, property management company, or exec at costar then you are obligated to contribute https://buymeacoffee.com/insiderrva LAST EDIT: If you want to follow along with the project you can at https://www.insiderrva.com/updates submitted by /u/mst152 to r/rva [link] [comments]

Landlord asked me to keep quiet during apartment showings
Moving out of my apartment in 3 months, and my landlord immediately started showing my apartment after getting notice of vacating, occasionally with less than 24 hours notice. The realtor couldn't answer all questions, so they differed to me for some questions. Everything I said is factual. Got asked about bugs, being a basement apartment, I showed the spray I had to use, and said the landlord only offers pest control once per lease, otherwise they state it is the tenant's expense. Sometimes I make note of things unprompted like, "I have a recycling can, but the landlord does not have recycling pickup," when asked about the garbage fee, or "just be aware, this apartment is right next to the machine room for the elevator. It's not constant noise, but if you are sitting in the living room, you'll know when someone uses the elevator," or "there's a light above the side entrance door that needs to be kept on at night for safety reasons, and that light comes straight through the door window and into the apartment. If you have guests sleepover, you might want to look into a curtain." Landlord was unable to lease the apartment on first day of showings and hit me with a "please keep commentary to yourself if possible. The longer we are not able to lease the apartment, the longer we have to keep showing your apartment to your inconvenience." If the landlord can't sell the apartment with fairly levelheaded transparency on the issues, he should either fix the issues (as I've asked in the past) or lower the price. "Free market" and all that. I don't mind the prospective tenants. My dog loves them. submitted by /u/TheKowzunOne to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

New to this apartment & not feeling safe now
I moved to this apartment March 1st. I was assigned to a spot in the garage. When I attempted to park there the first night there was someone parked there. I emailed the office & they said they would contact the person parked there and if they didn't hear back a tow would be initiated. They followed up saying the tow was going to occur on a certain day. It didn't, so I emailed management again. Finally on Tuesday night I checked and the spot was empty, I thought it was handled so I parked there Tuesday night and last night. Well, this is what I came down to this morning. The duct tape on that note was in a million tiny pieces and it took me 30 minutes to finish getting it off. I am a single woman with a daughter who ran from a domestic situation. I take our safety incredibly seriously. Of course I called and emailed management right away and will file a police report, but how would you handle this? I have never had to deal with something like this in all my years of renting. **UPDATE*** Was able to speak with management, they notified me this person's lease will be terminated immediately. They also let me pick from any other open spot (she did stress this spot was NEVER signed out to anyone else so this person is clearly unhinged for something that isn't even theirs.) and said they DO have cameras in the garage, which they will provide to police. They encouraged me to file a report which I will be doing today. I'm sure I will need some sort of protection order because I am sure I'm a target to this person now. Thanks for all of the helpful advice & encouragement! **2nd update** Filed the police report. They said no charges can really be pressed since there was no "real" damage to my car and no threats to my physical harm... so I contacted management again, asked if I could be notified when this person no longer has access to the building & asked if I could park in a different building until then. Sorry I can't reply to all the comments but I appreciate you all for the kind words submitted by /u/Alpal2510 to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

Is this apartment too small?
I’m really interested in this studio due to its amenities (large shared patio outside of unit, 1st month of rent free, apartment is all renovated with new appliances and cabinets), but the main living area just feels like it can’t be furnished well. I’m wanting a full bed for myself and a love seat with a tv on the opposite wall for any guests coming over, but it just looks so cramped with the staging furniture they’re using that I can’t imagine even using a larger sized loveseat in this apartment. The apartment is advertised as 550 sqft for 1250 with all utilities included besides electric. Does this place seem worth it and could it be decorated how I want it to be? submitted by /u/osinitsa to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

My Apartment is now charging a convenience fee to pay my rent
They just updated the system. The previous system allowed ACH payment but the new system does not. So infuriating. I think I can pay by check but now I have to get a checkbook or get cashiers checks which also have a fee submitted by /u/mangum95 to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

I think I’m finally done with my apartment
I’ve officially been in my apartment for 2 years. It unfortunately doesn’t get much sunlight so I’ve leaned into a moodier vibe. I DIY’ed many items which was a lot of the fun of decorating. My friends say I should submit it to Apartment Therapy but I can’t seem to take good enough pictures for that lol. I’m kinda bummed the decorating process is over… what to do next? submitted by /u/WashDeservedBetter to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

my PC before vs after apartment fire
a fire completely obliterated my apartment just over 2 weeks ago. i built my first PC by myself in July 2025. my 2x32 GB ram was $250 at the time, and now its $950. what a time to be alive EDIT: specs typo. Also, I am so overwhelmed by the love and support this post has gotten during this tragic time in my life. Thank you thank you thank you EDIT 2: because many people have asked: - my case was the Hyte y70. My liquid cooler was the part with the screen, the TRYX Panorama SE 360 AIO liquid cooler. - the fire was caused by an electrical failure in the attic. fire investigators think it also may be largely due to critters in the attic chewing on wires. The building I was living in was over 100 years old. - no humans were harmed in the fire and everyone in the building made it out safely. I had a friend staying with me with 2 of her cats. Due to extremely unfortunate circumstances, one of her cats did not make it. We had a very beautiful burial for her and she has been put to rest. Her other cat is in good health and is making a full recovery. submitted by /u/sprezzaturaz to r/pcmasterrace [link] [comments]

Can somebody help identify what this substance is on my apartment door’s peephole?
I’ve been living in this apartment with my boyfriend for about 6 weeks now. We’re just regular people who will work all day, make our dinner, watch a show to unwind, and hit the bed. We aren’t party animals and, when we do drink, we’re not inconsiderate about it. Ever since we moved in, our door peephole has been tampered with. It would be coloured with black sharpie marker, I would submit a maintenance request for fixing, it would get fixed, then immediately would get tampered with again. However, now it has clearly escalated to something else. I originally thought super glue or hot glue, but I’ve asked a few of my friends and they don’t think any type of glue could do this kind of damage. Any advice would be helpful. Btw management is well aware of the issue and have been prompt about it, was just shocked at whatever this is now. I’ve ordered a ring camera to be installed on Thursday, but I’m honestly scared for my life right now. submitted by /u/suburbanvermin to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

Update: I Got an Apartment!
For context, I asked in the summer about getting an apartment in NOVA: https://www.reddit.com/r/nova/s/XFeLVdFSHP. It was a hell of a process, but I eventually got lucky with timing and got approved for a good-priced one yesterday. 800 sq ft and not an ADU too! I am glad it's not an ADU because I had such a stressful experience trying to apply for one ADU. They gave me wrong info, and for 3 months, they were trying to approve my application, only to reject me yesterday. However, that rejection was the catalyst that helped me find this new apartment that same day. It also means that I can easily work overtime/continue my side hustles! ADUs limited me because my side hustles meant I was making over the max threshold. So excited to move and once again, thank you all for your help earlier! Apartment specs if anyone is interested: – Base: $1613 (Renovated. Includes Wi-Fi. I cover my utility fees. Hopefully that won't be much since it's just me. Unfortunately, there is a yearly amenity fee if I renew w/ them, but that's easily covered). In total it may be closer to $1800/month. – Size: 800 sq ft & 1 bedroom – Distance from my job in DC: 30 mins public transportation, 15 mins driving. The apartment is located right in Arlington, so I am in a safe neighborhood! submitted by /u/serefe7 to r/nova [link] [comments]

My maximalist apartment
I posted my apt on another decor subreddit, and a couple people suggested I post it over here too! I moved in here right before the pandemic, and it was my pandemic project to help me deal with the anxiety during that time. submitted by /u/Rattashootie to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]
