Ethnic or Western outfits for women under 1200
Hello lovely people. I m looking for a nice Western or ethnic outfit for my beautiful girlfriend for her birthday. The budget is a hard cap at 1200 because that's all I could save as a college student. Would you guys be able to suggest some good apps/websites to buy stuff from? Besides littlebox and stuff, I find their apparel quite common, literally every outfit I even sort of like is owned by some other girl in our college. If u think the budget is too low please let me know how much I need to increase it. Thank you for your time. submitted by /u/CanniBal1320 to r/IndianFashionAddicts [link] [comments]

Are Malayali Muslims slowly but steadily losing their native Keralite culture & heritage to Arabization & far right wing Islamism?
I distinctly remember the birth & rise of wahabism & salafism (arab far right wing ideologies) in kerala during the early 2000s. Nowadays a lot of people have diverted to arabization especially in malayali muslim women who are increasingly adopting arab women's attires in the name of modesty & religion. While vast majority of malayali muslim men still wear native & western outfits. This burden of modesty & double standards is seriously baffling submitted by /u/Glittering_Edge_6746 to r/AtheisminKerala [link] [comments]

Outfit Advice for a Westerner
Hi! I am attending my first desi wedding in May. This is a college friend and me and my partner are both westerners. They specified options for both Traditional and Western wear for each. He plans to wear different blazers/suits. The event will be in SoCal and I'm pretty sure around 300 people are going. We are going to 3 events and here are some of the suggested outfits: Sangeet (cocktail dresses, sparkly outfits, sequined lehengas, embellished sarees) Baraat & Wedding Ceremony (traditional and elegant Indian attire, western formal attire) Cocktail hour and Reception (sequined sarees, statement lehengas, Floor-length gowns, stylish cocktail dresses, or elevated jumpsuits) I would LOVE to wear a Lehenga but don't really know where to start. I do not have any stores near me and also do not want to spend more than $150. Would these options on Etsy be appropriate for events 2 and 3? Or for all events? https://www.etsy.com/listing/1775405530/thread-sequins-embroidered-lehenga-choli?ls=s&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=lehenga&ref=sr_gallery-1-5&pro=1&frs=1&bes=1&content_source=82673040-f70d-42f5-9702-44b527783d17%253ALTb8e01827900439ed6317da080c47a4f63550b601&organic_search_click=1&logging_key=82673040-f70d-42f5-9702-44b527783d17%3ALTb8e01827900439ed6317da080c47a4f63550b601&variation0=4757979031 https://www.etsy.com/listing/1587982360/georgette-shaded-lehenga-choli-set-zari?ls=s&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=lehenga&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&pro=1&frs=1&bes=1&sts=1&content_source=82673040-f70d-42f5-9702-44b527783d17%253ALT1e11cd8e2777c090b954e862680a2c79dc3a80c1&organic_search_click=1&logging_key=82673040-f70d-42f5-9702-44b527783d17%3ALT1e11cd8e2777c090b954e862680a2c79dc3a80c1&variation0=4032252237 For western wear, I have a few formal spring dresses kind of like this: https://www.macys.com/shop/product/petal-pup-womens-bloom-strapless-maxi-dress?ID=16634107 would that be appropriate? This Winter Anime season shows that the Woke corruption is spreading
We have already discussed many occurrences of Wokeness creeping up in Japanese video game companies such as Sony, Square Enix and so on. If you watch Anime only occasionally for the most successful shows you won't yet notice the pattern, but if you add up the little occurrences and keep your pattern recognition radar turned on, you can start to see SJW ideas beginning to occur and spread. In A Gatherer's Adventure in Isekai (Sozai Saishuka no Isekai Ryokouki), the final arc revolves around High-Elves experiencing inbreeding depression on a genetic level because they are too proud and live isolated from others. If you take the hint, they represent the Japanese population. A fabulous drag queen fairy chides them and pushes them to open up to other populations, illustrated with a High-Elf having a baby with an Elf with darker complexion and dreadlocks. If you follow the Woke rules of how things are coded, you can guess what this means. After all, the West has already been subjected to a barrage of mixed race couples to promote miscegenation and open their borders. Welcome to the club. The worst offender this season was Dusk Beyond the End of the World (Towa no Yuugure). In the future offered in this world, marriage between two people is a thing of the past, replaced with the concept of Ehlsea, which can include any number of individuals of any gender. Despite an action-packed opening, the purpose of the rest of the show seemed to be the encounter of several Ehlseas. Here are their compositions, in chronological order: one woman two men, two women, an heterosexual couple but they are incestuous siblings, and finally, the two main characters have a pity Ehlsea with a girl with darker complexion and big braids. Once again, this is coded in a way that is similar to the previous example. One can argue that this show doesn't push polyamory any more than classical harem shows, but harem shows are clearly fantasies revolving around the gratification of the target audience through the main character as a vessel. Dusk Beyond the End of the World, however, depicts the way society at large functions rather than making an exception for the POV character, and it goes for high-concept SF rather than fanservice. A less obvious example but an indicator nonetheless, in My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha: Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon (Mugen Gacha), humans are discriminated against and the main character goes on a revenge crusade against the other species. Then comes a realization: "Discrimination is the problem, not the world itself." That doesn't sound too bad, but I will remind you that awareness to social injustices, thus being awakened to racial discrimination, is the textual origin of the word "Woke". It's not very in-character for the notoriously racist Japanese. And yet, fighting against discrimination is becoming a recurring trend in Japanese productions. If it was too subtle for the moral lesson, Gachiakuta's boss of the main characters has a word for you. From what I have read recently, one of the most egregious examples is The Swordsman Dubbed the Sorcerer of Countless Swords (Senken no Majutsushi to Yobareta Kenshi), in which the main character protects any character that was discriminated against for any reason whatsoever (such as hair color). Even though it was before the Winter season, I will also point out that many modern anime have started censoring female outfits to remove cleavage or side boobs or just a little skin, such as in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Dandadan and Headhunted to Another World. I am sure you can find plenty other examples, feel free to add them in the comments. A lot of Anime are based on Manga, which are often based on Light Novels, so the proto-Woke talking points have been seeded years ago and we are only seeing them sprout right now. I am not saying that Anime is cooked, just that Japan, a few years late, seems to have reached the end of innocence stage, in which leftist ideals eventually start going against traditional heterosexual relationships, they start fussing over female representation and avoiding the male gaze, they start being obsessed with the importance of fighting against various identity-based (rather than class-based) discriminations, and they start showing an unrealistic amount of miscegenation, all of which get increasingly pushed in media. This is the innocent and harmless proto-Woke stage, still sparse rather than following the guidelines to the letter, a few steps before becoming the only acceptable doctrine absolutely everywhere, with anyone thinking differently painted as evil. You can say that it is not happening, but I am not going to be sorry for noticing early before it becomes obvious to everyone, this has happened before in the West (once burned, twice shy). And then when it gets more frequent and more people start noticing, that's when we will hear that it is a good thing that Japan embraces progressive Western values, that it was about time that they get with the program. Maybe it is pushed by ESG forays into the Japanese industry (as we have seen in the video games sector), or they think that it appeals to a wider audience, or it could be that the new generation of artists was exposed to too much Western art/propaganda. Brace yourselves for the future, given enough time the last refuge might turn out just as rotten as the rest. submitted by /u/tyranicalmoon to r/KotakuInAction [link] [comments]

The real cost of India’s rape culture
I’m so tired of watching Indian society eat women alive and then pretend it’s culture. Like… wtf are we even doing anymore. This whole debate around actor Shivaji’s comments on women’s dressing just ripped the mask off what we already knew. A man gets on stage and lectures women about sleeves and necklines and suddenly half the country turns into the Morality Police. And ngl, what broke me wasn’t even the men, it was the women cheering him on. The aunties, the pick-me girls, the “I’m not like other girls” brigade calling Anasuya and Chinmayi sluts, whores, attention seekers… just dragging other women for sport. Women are always the first to stone other women. Always. It’s exhausting. From childhood we’re trained into this cage. Cover up. Sit properly. Don’t attract attention. Don’t laugh loud. Don’t walk late. Don’t exist too freely. By the time we grow up, control feels normal. Surveillance feels like care. Oppression feels like values. This shit gets internalised so deep you don’t even see it anymore. Sleeveless? Bad girl. Deep neck? Characterless. Shorts? Asking for attention. Low-neck blouse with a saree? Hypocrite slut. Backless? Western disease. So what exactly is the right outfit then? Lol. There is literally no winning. The goal is not decency. The goal is control. Period. And the worst part is when violence happens, when women are assaulted, raped, killed, society calmly explains it away. She was showing skin. She provoked him. What did she expect? Seriously?? That’s not culture. That’s rape culture. That’s victim-blaming with a Sanskrit filter. Men aren’t taught self-control here. They’re taught entitlement. That women’s bodies are public property, to stare at, comment on, judge, correct, punish. And then women are told it’s their responsibility to manage male behaviour by shrinking themselves smaller and smaller. Make it make sense. And don’t even get me started on how religion and nationalism are used to police women. Suddenly controlling women becomes protecting Indian culture. As if culture is some fragile glass that shatters when a woman wears a crop top. Pls. And yes, women participate in this too. Internalised misogyny is real. Patriarchy survives because women are trained to become its foot soldiers. The amount of hatred Indian women pour on other women for being sexual, outspoken, confident is honestly terrifying. Let’s say this clearly because apparently it still needs to be said: women don’t dress for men. We don’t exist for male consumption. We dress for ourselves. For comfort. For joy. For style. For confidence. For whatever damn reason we want. A woman in a short dress is not advertising. A woman with cleavage is not inviting. A woman enjoying her sexuality is not immoral. She’s just free. And that freedom scares the hell out of a society built on controlling women. This isn’t about sleeves. It was never about sleeves. It’s about power. Who gets to decide. Who gets to speak. Who gets to exist loudly. Who gets to take space. And right now, Indian society is still very comfortable telling women to shut up, cover up, and behave. No thanks. I’m done being polite about this. submitted by /u/2itaruZ to r/india [link] [comments]

Starwoven Dreams: Not just a “middle eastern, belly dancing” | The Indian inspirations behind the outfit.
All Indian “inspirations” in this fit. ⭐️First: Stanapatta (left, blouse), Lehenga (right) ⭐️ Second Image: Kamarbandh (waist) ⭐️ Third: Chandbali (moon earrings) + indigenous American feather motifs (dreamcatcher-like) mixed in. ⭐️ Fourth: Mangtika (there are multiple styles here that are fused together, possibly from other cultures as well). 🌟 Fifth and Sixth: The original Belly Dancing outfit from Egypt ⭐️ Hello everyone. I initially didn’t want to make a post about this topic, but I’m seeing a lot of misinformation being repeated, especially claims that this outfit is “fine” because people recognise it from movies, games, and other media. The popularity of an outfit in Western media (or even in Turkish dances) does not make it historically accurate, nor does it erase its problematic origins. So I want to provide some historical context for how this outfit came to be. 1. What This Outfit Is Actually Based On: This outfit is not an authentic traditional Egyptian belly-dancing costume It is primarily inspired by the Bedlah or cabaret belly-dance costume, which emerged in the early–mid 20th century. This style was not a traditional indigenous form but rather a hybrid costume shaped heavily by: Western Orientalist aesthetics (Hollywood, European cabaret, vaudeville) South Asian clothing influences (especially in embroidery, jewelry styles, and the 2 piece top and skirt which resembles a lehenga and a stanapatta) Ottoman and Levantine stage-costume traditions This fusion created a Westernized, sexualized reinterpretation of Egyptian dance. It is very different from what the actual cultural and historical Egyptian dance practices looked like. 2. How Western Orientalism Changed the Dance and Its Clothing Beginning in the late 19th and early 20th centuries: * European and American performers and filmmakers portrayed “Oriental dancers” in highly sexualized, exoticized outfits that Egyptians themselves did not wear. * Hollywood costumers drew inspiration from: * South Asian lehengas and cholis * Turkish/Ottoman fantasy designs * Cabaret and burlesque stage costumes * Random “Eastern” stereotypes * When tourism and nightlife increased in Egypt during the 1930s–1960s, local performers adapted to these expectations for commercial reasons. This is how the “bra-and-belt set with a chiffon skirt” - the typical cabaret belly-dance look- was born. It was constructed to appeal to Western fantasies, not to preserve cultural authenticity for any culture it was pulling inspirations from (and especially not from Egyptian and south asian inspirations). 3. People Saying “It’s Turkish So It’s Fine” Are Missing Key Context A lot of people claim the outfit is fine because “belly dance exists in Turkey” or “this style is part of Turkish culture.” But this is misleading for several reasons: * The dance form known today globally as belly dance (raqs sharqi) originated in Egypt, not Turkey. * When it spread internationally, it was already influenced by Western Orientalism. Modern Turkish, Lebanese, American, and even Bollywood versions of the dance are derivatives, not the historical source. The tuskish belly dancing is most commonly known as “Oryantal Dans” which literally translates to “Oriental Dance” telling you clearly about its roos. So even when you see this outfit in Turkey or the West, you are not seeing an “authentic Turkish tradition.” You are seeing a commercialized, globalized, Western-modified costume, not a historically rooted cultural outfit. 4. The Problem: These Cultural Elements Were Sexualised When South Asian clothing elements entered the cabaret belly-dance outfit, they were placed into a context of eroticisation, exoticism, Orientalist fantasy stage performance intended for the male gaze This led to an entire generation of Western audiences associating: South Asian embroidery, veils, skirts, and jewelry = sexualised exotic dancer aesthetic This is deeply problematic, because many of these clothing elements are: * religious or ceremonial (e.g., dupatta on head) * worn in weddings, festivals, or cultural rituals symbols of modesty or cultural identity Yet Western media repurposed them in a sexualised entertainment context. This Misrepresentation Still Persists Today, people see a jeweled choli, a dupatta-like veil on the head, badla/zari embroidery jhumka-like / chandbali earring …. and assume they are “belly dance” features, not South Asian cultural elements. This erasure reinforces harmful stereotypes about South Asian clothing being inherently “seductive” or “costumey” when it is originally not. ⭐️ Extremely Problematic History Mata Hari: A White Woman Who Popularised Orientalist Sexualisation A crucial historical example of Orientalist distortion is Mata Hari, a Dutch woman who reinvented herself as an “exotic Eastern dancer” in the early 1900s. She deliberately used fake “Eastern” identities, claiming to be Indian, Javanese, and Middle Eastern at different times. Her stage costumes mixed Indian jewelry, Middle Eastern veils, and Southeast Asian accessories - which were NOT authentic. She performed eroticised dances in these hybrid, Orientalist outfits to attract European men. During World War I, she used this exoticised image to seduce high-ranking men as part of her work as a spy. Mata Hari became one of the most influential forces in cementing the stereotype that “Eastern women = seductive, dangerous, exotic.” Her fabricated identity and sexualised costume directly fed Western fantasies about the Middle East and South Asia and influenced how “belly dance” was costumed in cabaret and Hollywood for decades afterward. She is an early example of how white women profited from sexualising and misrepresenting Eastern cultures, while the actual women from those cultures faced stigma, policing, and exclusion. ⭐️ Lastly I want to address the dance, which is whole ‘nother can of mess. The dancing ability that comes with this outfit set is a mix of multiple dances. I can recognise that the latter half of the dress takes inspirations from several Indian Classical Dances (including Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Odissi). It even features the “Attami” head shake that is typically seen in Indian Classical Dances. I am trained professionally in one of these Indian Classical Dances, and I really want to emphasise that it would be considered highly offensive to fuse these dances with other dances and especially portrayed in Nikki with such sloppy animations + fused with other non-Indian dances. The dance is not only heavily tied to Indian history dating back thousands of years, it is also HEAVILY tied to religion. It is extremely distasteful for me to see this, considering Infold put so much care into all the Chinese dances portrayed in the game. 🌟 In Simple terms, the main problem with this outfit + it’s cabaret / bedlah inspirations is that it sexualises a dance that was never meant to be sexualised and also sexualises attires that were never meant to be sexual. It also mixes two distinct fashion styles leading yo the erasure of both cultural fits- the original egyptian fit (Raqs sharqi) is not recognised + South Asian cultural pieces are credited to the wrong regions/countries leading to the erasure of their history. ⭐️ Unfortunately my post is really all over the place and I didn’t have the time to structure it properly. All of this dismissal by the community of South Asian roots in the Infinity Nikki belly dancing outfit is honestly making me to tear up a bit. I feel so stressed whenever I point out the problems with it I get massively downvoted. Som random person comes in and points at the orientalist belly dancing outfit (from the west , or turkey) and cites it as an authentic when it clearly is not. Please LISTEN to us. This is not just clothing, it is out history, our culture that is being mis-credited to the wrong cultures, that is being sexualised , that is being fused with several other cultures that are being misrepresented as well. I made a post about this on X; https://x.com/kittymerization/status/1992497435571347554?s=46 and another fellow Indian girlie went into detail about why this Infinity Nikki outfit is highly problematic: https://x.com/infinitynikkien/status/1992185847282594282?s=46 submitted by /u/NonphotosyntheticBun to r/InfinityNikki [link] [comments]

Western guest outfit help
My husband and I (white, from the US) are heading to India in November for a friend's wedding and I could not be more excited! I am going as a good friend of the groom (also white American). BUT I would appreciate some help figuring out outfits. All events are happening in different parts of the same venue near Jaipur. Day 1 there will be the mehendi/haldi in the afternoon. Dress code is bright and colorful - for men, this is bright kurtas, floral shirts, linen attire. For women bright solid/floral sarees, suits, Indo-western, or western midi/maxi dresses. Day 1 evening is the sangeet and cocktail. Dress code is glam - tuxedos or evening suits for men, and dark color lehenga/saree, Indo-western, or western cocktail for women. Day 2 is the wedding, followed by dinner and after party. Everything starts in the early afternoon, and there's no indication of changing attire after the wedding ceremony. Dress code formal Indian or western. For the mehendi and haldi, we're planning to wear western clothing. I already own the light blue floral maxi dress in the first picture, but I'm not sure if it's too dressy/fits the vibes (I'm wearing it to a different wedding this fall) and I could get something like the yellow dress. Then for the sangeet, I was planning to wear a lehenga and my husband his tux. Would one of these options in the second pic would be good? I don't want something too simple but I also don't want to choose something tacky! Finally, for the wedding I was thinking of wearing a saree (pre-stitched of course!) and my husband a sherwani. Are these in the third pic okay? I'm not sure what colors and styles I should be looking at for an afternoon wedding in November that leads into the evening events, as a friend of the groom. Any advice welcome! Thank you!! submitted by /u/eldritchredpanda to r/DesiWeddings [link] [comments]

Modesty matters more than some would like to admit but many Christian women love their flesh more
Im sorry but someone has to say this. After seeing a post from yesterday about modesty and then seeing the response from Christian women, I was sad to see just how worldly so many of the responses were. So many excuses and deflective arguments for why women choose to dress in a dishonorable manner. What every Christian woman should ask herself is “who am I dressing for? Am I dressing first for myself or for God?” If women asked themselves that question, many of you would find yourselves having to say that you dress first for yourself. When you show your cleavage, you’re not doing it for God. When you wear a bikini at the beach and you are essentially half naked, you aren’t doing that for God either. Here’s some rebuttals to the wordly excuses that many modern Christian women like to tell themselves: -Modesty isn’t just so that you don’t cause a man to lust Many of you like to make that argument so that you can tell yourself “well, if a man can lust after me even when I am wearing sweatpants and a hoodie, then it must mean I might as well wear what I want!” Modesty is so that you dress the body that God gave you in an honorable manner, scripture is clear on this. -Modesty isn’t that hard to figure out, you’re just playing dumb It’s very easy to be modest unless you don’t care at all about honoring your body. Weather isn’t an excuse. In fact, covering your body in natural fabrics in the hot weather can protect your skin way more than if you’re half naked and getting your skin burned. As someone that lives in an area where it’s hot most of the year, wearing cotton and linen lightweight fabrics is not difficult. Not wearing tight clothing head to toe and covering the skin of your private areas isn’t that hard to figure out or achieve. You just don’t want to do it because the truth is that you enjoy immodest fashion. -There’s absolutely no need for gym attire to be so revealing. Men aren’t walking around with skin tight yoga pants because if they did they would get called creeps. When women do it though, it’s because of “comfort” or “practicality”. But is it really? How comfortable are you really showing every crevice of your body? If you were wearing yoga pants and Christ appeared in front of you, could you look at him and tell him “I am proud of what I’m wearing right now in public”? -Dressing immodestly is a violation of other people’s sight There’s days in which I go out and I can’t help but be forced to see women dressed in the most vulgar and skimpy outfits. I am a straight woman, I am not attracted to women. I simply don’t want to see basically nude women all around me and yet that’s what has become normal in our western culture. The other day I saw a woman wearing skin colored yoga pants and for a second I was shocked because I thought she was naked 😂. It’s not even a matter of staring, many of you might say “well, just don’t look at me”, but if there’s many women in public dressed the same way, where is one supposed to look? The sky? The ground? Come on! -Both the spirit and the body matter Last but definitely not least, one of the most commonly said phrases of the immodest Christian woman is “God only cares about my heart!” But really, if you go out looking like the world and dressed in a skimpy way, doesn’t that say a lot about your heart? Yes, a woman can dress modestly but have an evil and impure heart. That is true, but in that case such woman should focus on fighting the evil within herself. Both the inside and the outside matter and should match each other. We should be modest in spirit as well as modest in body because we aren’t just spirits in this world. While we are alive in this world, we live in a physical body that God created with purpose. We cannot and should not abuse it or use it in a way that God doesn’t intend for us. Let’s face it, many of you just love to dress immodestly. The idea of giving up clothing pieces for God is simply too much for you, and that says a lot about your faith. If the concept of modesty is that difficult for you to adhere to, what else are you not adhering to when it comes to scripture? Ask yourself that, pray about it, and really, really look inward into what you actually value. If this post shakes your spirit, think about why that is. submitted by /u/pinkvintagegirl to r/TrueChristian [link] [comments]

Last update! Indian wedding guest… the result!
Wow the wedding was amazing! Yall were right it was flashy and gorgeous, and i totally could have found something way better if i had the time… (my fault for starting to look for an outfit a week before the wedding!) I went with dress 1, but i’ll also keep 3 and 6 (the sparkly one and the orange one) because i feel like i can rock those for other events in the future. i can’t believe how beautiful the women looked at this wedding… i was blown away by the colors and intricacies of all the outfits… Got dayum they do it right!!! I want to get one of those beautiful vibrant outfits so bad and just wear it around my house… I wore dress one for he first half of the day which was the ceremony and was more “Indian” then changed into the second outfit for the evening reception, which was much more formal, and most of the indian guests changed into more “western” clothes to even out the whole thing, which i though was super sentimental and sweet… (my best friend said my outfit reminded her more of “greek goddess” which is not quite what i was going for but ill take it!!!) (i wish i could wear my hair down but its texas insane heat here and i start to sweat immediately after (and during) trying to style it. and then i just sweat and sweat and the hair will look like shit…. i might be getting a big chop tomorrow because my hair has been so awful lately, i feel like i need to start over…even though I’m trying to grow it out, it just won’t grow and looks shittier and shittier all the time :( ) submitted by /u/kes0156 to r/OUTFITS [link] [comments]

What are some trendy western outfits women can wear for outings and parties?

Why do western tourists dress so weird?
I live in downtown Tokyo which sees a lot of tourists from all over the world, and when it comes to fashion I always see western (mainly white) tourists stand out. Africans, Asians and Middle Easterners will often wear clothes that are casual, but do not stand out, like long buttoned shirts, jeans etc. The women, especially those from Asia will look very fashionable with floral shirts, dresses, small practical bags etc. Then you look at the western tourists. They either wear outfits that look like they are going hiking in a tropical jungle, complete with oversized survival gear backpacks while doing city sightseeing, or they look like oversized toddlers in shorts, flip-flops and baseball caps. The elderly men usually spice things up by wearing a polo shirt. I have been to enough countries in Europe to know that this is not the normal casual wear, so why are they making themselves look so comical when they travel abroad? submitted by /u/Kawadane to r/TooAfraidToAsk [link] [comments]

Do you ever light up seeing women who are well put? Be it their outfit and how they're dressed or their makeup, all dolled up? Is it just me?
(Straight women only) As a straight woman, do you ever light up seeing women who are well put, out in public? Be it their outfit and how they're dressed or their makeup and them being dolled up. Even thought I'm a straight woman idk why sometimes it brings me so much joy seeing beautiful women who look like dolls or who are dressed to the nines, especially when I was younger and was more involved in fashion. Honestly, idk why I get these reactions and if there's an evolutionary aspect to it or something - I wonder how common this is in other women? I guess it's kinda like how little girls glow up when they see Disney princesses on screen. Sometimes, if there's a certain feminity I can't achieve, I really enjoy seeing it on other women and admire it on them (for example I'm not good at makeup and used to wear minimal makeup, but nowadays I wear even less - just my personal preference. So appreciate it when a woman has that old glamour or some type of look really beautiful but not too unnatural makeup). I wonder if part of it has to do with with western culture where women don't dress up as often as they used and with how common sweatpants and hoodies have become. So maybe it just feels special to see it irl. But idk it feels like I'm a consumer of femininity and beauty in other people if that makes sense. Discovering kpop group Twice really lit up and even healed a part of my soul as someone who wasn't taught and raised with feminity and was really lacking girliness in my life. Even if it's more of a superficial type of feminity and not feminity based on actions, I really love indulging in it from to time. I just love seeing all the pink, cute faces, and so much cuteness 💞 submitted by /u/PinkLink81 to r/AskWomenNoCensor [link] [comments]

What's "in" : the very unofficial guide to moving on from skinny jeans + waterfall cardigans in your 30s and beyond in 2024
Disclaimer: Fashion and style have become so much more open, individual and fun. Honestly...if you want to keep rockin' a skinny jean in your Christian Girl Fall...Forevermore... go for it! Edit: this phrasing seems to be confusing and upsetting people. It's a pop culture meme from 2020 I didn't make it up FYI! But I've gotten an influx of questions about "what IS the look now?!" from people who are going back to the office, want a fresh start, are catching up with shopping post-'demic, going out more often, want to overhaul their wardrobe and don't know where to start. One really great source for on-trend but not fashion victim advice: Wardrobe Oxygen's "For Grown Ass Women" series Resource: Pinterest board with some interesting and on-trend outfits I picked plus and fuller bodies because that's a concern for many--how do I look up to date while being plus or having a fuller mid-section, bust, thighs, etc. Resource: take inspiration from "Heaven by Marc Jacobs" your eyes may burn, but you'll get the idea of what the "look" is Most of these looks would 100% fly today, even though they're 70s, 80s, and 90s See this gal: she's got several trends on at once ribbons, dopamine dressing, sheer, candy apple red, Grandpa chic, 90s redux, cowboy boots Wrong shoes, sheer, 90s redux, Grandpa chic, chunky v neck 3 button cardigan, moto boots again, very trendy Now compare to this 2013 street style knee length skirt, slightly fitted tee, statement necklace, pumps *link fixed! Or this tucked in button front, pencil skirt, pumps, statement necklace, very matchy-matchy Or this cutsey intarsia, knee length lady like vintage skirt, carpetbag vintage purse, slim line dainty shoes, overall 1950s twee look. Colorful cropped/rolled chino pants, a button front peeking out of an embellished sweater, sky-high stiletto heels see how dated that looks to our eyes now? Let's dive in: Proportions: For the last 15-ish years until about 2019 or so, the look was slim--skinny jeans, tight knee high boots, maybe a chunky slouchy sweater, but more like a slim fit button down with a slim v neck merino sweater on top. Pencil skirts with belted sweaters, sheath dresses, cropped cigarette pants, slim waterfall cardigans, bias cut midi skirts + tissue thin tees. The overarching look was preppy with touches of girlish twee whimsy, upgrading from "indie sleeze" skinny jeans + tank tops with a "rock star girlfriend" look. Pattern matching (florals and stripes especially) was big. A very carefully coordinated and curated look was in. In the 2020s it's "big pants, little top" OR "loose over loose" in a very general sense. Big square oversized men's tees over maxi skirts + sneakers. Baby tees + cargo pants. Slim knit ribbed sweaters with 90s jeans. Corset tops with rip-stop nylon sporty drawstring skirts. We're still seeing a lot of influence of "slow fashion" looks--very work-wear linen boxy over boxy, clogs, jean jackets, slouchy chunky sweaters, jumpsuits or boilersuits, high waisted snug jeans with a belt + a camp shirt. Trend: Dopamine dressing: bright colors, wild prints, playful prints, art prints. Lisa Says Gah and Fashion Brand Company are two brands that make referential, odd, conversation piece items. Power clashing, and bold colors are key. Trend: 90s redux. So the office siren look--slouchy low slung pinstripe pants with a shrunken waistcoat (nothing underneath) and smudged red lips, quiet luxury separates, Prada everything, but also the sporty-chic nylon, luggage straps, paracording, reflective brights, canvas, quilted outerwear, drawstrings, anorak looks. Trend: dark academia/cottagecore. This is a bit past its prime, but for those who are taking baby steps away from skinny jeans, you can still work this for sure. This is dark florals, Victorian puff sleeves, big twirly cloaks and capes, maxi skirts + lace up prairie boots, baroque jewelry, curly hair, wire rimmed glasses. Cottage core overlaps with workwear: boilersuits, calico, ribbons, prairie looks, knee high cable knit socks, corduroy everything, hand-knit sweaters with hay in them, linen, wool, silk, leather, cotton, denim, Doc Martens and Converse. Dark Academia is cottagecore + a gothic vibe. Trend: wrong [item] mostly 'wrong shoes'. Dainty Mary Jane shoes with basketball shorts and a sweatshirt. Sneakers with a gown. Loafers with a mini dress. Socks + pumps or sandals. The deliberate, in your face challenging "ugliness" we saw in the 90s is on the fringes of the hot style now. Trend: ribbons and bows. Honestly y'all, this is tough one for the over-35. But the overall balletcore, coquette and Selkie/For Love and Lemons/Love Shack Fancy vibe is strong. Tying ribbons on whatever is a thing. Consider ribbon neckties, a ribbon around your wrist, a ribbon belt, or a big lush velvet hair ribbon. My predictions: 80s Pierrot and/or clowncore is about to hit big--we're already tiptoeing towards it with bows everywhere, big high waisted pants, cowboy boots, stripes/plaid. It's a natural extension of balletcore and dopamine dressing. Western Gothic: dark Academia + dark boho Western. Fringe, dark botanicals, all black, leather, suede, and a mix of desert/witch influences. 20's Patou style pants with a tunic, "Far East" looks with pants + tunic, extreme dropped waists, tube dresses or hobble dresses, big cocoon coats, bobs + barrettes. I've already seen a 20's bob + side barrette on Nicole Kidman in Expats (new TV show). Sliding into 30s Dust Bowl chic in the last 2020s I predict as well. Flour sack dresses, aprons as fashion, wild coming-undone braids, 'silver nitrate contour' + hollowed out eyes makeup, men's dress shoes + slouchy socks + day dresses. Just watch, I predicted it first. Going out: it's not a "going out top" and jeans, people. It's denim on denim with a big ol' double-G belt, a corset top + leather or pleather pants, a bodysuit + jeans, an ultra-mini dress + moto boots, a sports jersey + no visible pants + heels, a slip dress + sneakers, a band tee + engineer stripe flares, a backless/strappy/cutout top + cargo pants, and for day, brunch dresses + sneakers. Overall: embellishment and lots of detail aren't really in right now. It's mostly prints, patterns, volume, texture, or a "clean girl" look. Embroidery in particular feels a bit dated, unless it's thick yarn on a chunky cropped sweater or intarsia style. Novelty prints like little foxes, birds, etc--those are "out". Statement necklaces, brocade boots, arm parties--those are out. I've noticed Gen Z is wearing TONS of gold jewelry but in a new way: multiple earrings, stacked rings, and coordinated chains with pendants or charms. A "curated ear" is the new arm party. I personally have been rocking a thin rigid ankle bracelet--almost a bangle style-- from Jenny Bird because I think those are coming back. Workwear: Shoes: lug sole loafers, kitten heels, street sneakers (leather or suede), wider-shaft boots, sling-back flats and sandals, mules of all kinds Pants: wide leg, straight leg, carrot/barrel, full length or at ankle. High waisted generally. Tops: natural waist tops of all kind, 90s silk tops, camp shirts, Victorian-style eyelet, bishop sleeves, or piecrust collars, slouchy sweaters, big chunky 3-button cardigans over polished tees, button fronts but cropped to natural waist/boxy. We are getting closer to the revival of the peplum (which I am here for and always have been). Toppers: oversized slouchy borrowed from the boys suit jacket (not part of matching suit), jean jacket, varsity style sweaters, long boxy square thicker "kimono" style dusters/toppers--almost lab-coat style, maxi cardigans in a lush material like angora Suits: pant suits in interesting colors, casual drapey 90s Armani style suits Alright, add your 2 cents! Let's avoid "no way/cold dead hands/I've been wearing my Gap chinos since 2002 and I'll die in them" type of remarks. If trends isn't for you, that's cool, but keep it pushin'. submitted by /u/Chazzyphant to r/fashionwomens35 [link] [comments]

I wish Rockstar would stop playing it safe with button up blouses and pimp hats and just finally diversify our wardrobes: pictured is how Native American women and Mexican women dressed in the late 1800s to blend in with Western society whilst still incorporating their cultures
