I ve seen some post like this. But for some reason I can’t post there. I'm a dude from Ukraine. My wife and I moved to US during the big war 2,5 years ago. We've been to the States before the war multiple times, so we get use to live here really fast. Our motto here "love it or leave it". Back at home I used to go sauna few times a month, especially during the cold seasons. I find out that at the local YMCA that have sauna. I was like yay! I can chill there aftery CrossFit class(ymca is on the way back home). Anyway, I'm on my way to sauna, happy, smiling, wearing flip flops, swim shorts... I'm opening the door... And my jaw drops. 5 dudes in sauna and 4 of them wearing sneakers, sport shorts and t-shirts. They were on the phones, wearing apple watches. I was like WTF? I was there for 20 minutes - same thing. Dudes wearing gym clothes in sauna? Am I missing something or what? Update. I think I’ll start collecting stories from this sauna. This is from today's visit! I’m not making this up! Today was almost a 50/50 split: 4 guys wearing swimwear, and the rest, well, you know... Then a lady walks in, wearing giant headphones, a hoodie, and a crossbody bag. Inside the sauna, she takes off her hoodie. I was like, whatever. And then, this dude from Y starts spraying the sauna door with Windex and cleaning it. Inside my head: "That’s weird, but at least he’s doing it on the outside." THEN he opens the door—yes, we are still inside the sauna, where heat is kind of important—and starts spraying the inside with Windex! I went to the Y with my baby mama, her dad, and my kid. They were in the pool and I drank coffee before walking in. Was only a dollar, which is about the nicest thing I can say about the whole experience. I went to walk through the men locker room to the pool. As I walked through, a lot of men just walk around naked. I realize it's a place to get changed, but let's have some decency for others. Just put on a towel! Unless you are in the act of changing, why are you walking around fully nude!? On top of that, one guy (probably late 30s, early 40s) was using the hand dryer to dry his crotch. At least he had on boxers... but just... really? I go to the pool area, my daughter is swimming, bm's dad is in the sauna, bm is standing outside the pool watching our daughter. When I looked at the steam room next to the sauna there was a guy (mid to late 30s) standing at the glass door in the steam room looking out at the pool. His hand was in his pants (bathing suit), and he was furiously masturbating. I am just averting my eyes trying not to vomit, watching my daughter play in the pool, and I see a woman (mid to late 40s) holding her child in her arms sideways. I think... No she isn't... And then she turns and I can confirm she is breastfeeding. I don't have anything against public breastfeeding at all, but please for the love of God get out of the pool first. How desperate is your kid??? Are they starving?? So the whole experience was mildly infuriating. I don't think I will be returning any time soon. Edit: I did mention it to the staff. They didn't do anything, apparently the stuff I saw they see frequently. I have pretty extreme anxiety about going new places for the first time. I hurt my back and the doctor said swimming would be really good for it so I got a subscription to the YMCA near me. But I can't bring myself to go because I don't know what to expect. I applied online so I don't have a card to show at the door or anything. Will it be locked? What do I say to the front desk? Where can I leave my bag while I swim? What is the pool lane etiquette? My only prior public gym experience is my small, quiet college gym. Are there any faux pas I can avoid?
