Fuful Bakery is now open in downtown Boston at 274 Franklin St. It’s an Asian-French bakery, so a lot of more classic Asian flavors like sesame, yuzu, lychee. I tried a few things last week and they were quite good, but on the expensive side. Good sized croissants that are in the $7-8 range. That’s a very minimal looking main course, just as well it was cooked well.  The desert looks like any other slice of cake from a cafe or buffet.  Personally we love Costa, real Italian food & so well presented.  Octopus terrine with lime, pink peppercorn & yogurt dressing.  Yuzu coconut dacquoise, passion fruit cream, crunchy biscuit, coconut meringue.  And this is in MDR.

This was visit number six (and fourth as a solo diner) to The French Laundry, and as much as I enjoy the food, it's the front of house's hospitality that keeps me coming back. During this most recent visit, I was torn between the chef's tasting menu and the vegetable tasting menu with my eyes shuttling from left to right more than usual. Without missing a beat, my primary server -- a young man who was deservedly lauded in Alexander the Guest's video about the restaurant -- stopped by and said, "Pick whatever you want," allowing me to mix and match dishes across the two menus. Then following a delicious but potent play on sour cream and onion flavors, he brought a pot of tea to the table as a palate cleanser, explaining, "I asked myself, what would I want to drink after a course like that? Rosemary tea." There are plenty of other examples I could cite, but I'll mention one more. After finishing the umami-packed beef and broccoli main course, he strolled over with a mischievous grin and asked, "Are you still hungry?" Before I could even utter a full sentence, he was already walking back to the kitchen and said "Don't worry, I got you." A few minutes later, out came the second main course on offer that evening, an extra large portion of herb-roasted lamb sitting in a pond of its roasting juices. For several years during the 2010's, Eleven Madison Park was my favorite destination restaurant. Then when I moved to California, it was The Restaurant at Meadowood until its closure in 2020 due to the Glass Fire. I am in no way affiliated with this store. Massive appreciation to the people in this sub who’ve recommended the independent grocery store Green Fresh Supermarket. Not owned by any of the billionaire grocery chain overlords. I went to their Merivale location today, looking for lamb cubes. The prices seemed far better than the chains. For example, a head of broccoli was $2 and frozen cubed lamb was $8/lb. I will probably miss a few things, but they have fresh seafood, meat from every animal under the sun, dairy, Korean skincare, Asian groceries, African spices, hot food, fresh fruits and vegetables (huge selection), dairy, and probably more that I’m forgetting. These chocolates were the result of ~2 months intense R&D, then about a week of full time labor for the final versions. I haven't made chocolates before but I'm an experienced home cook. I wanted to do a deep dive into something sweet, only thing is I don't like eating sugar much. I thought chocolate would be good since it's easy to give away. Also some of you might remember I posted a year ago about trying 70 different 100% cocoa bars, which was exciting for me. After getting basic tempering down (I use silk) with cheap grocery chocolate (not up to my standards), I noticed how expensive good couverture chocolate is and decided to get a melanger which would also give me a bigger spectrum of possibilities. I used chocolate academy's already roasted/winnowed nibs. I ordered a bunch of polycarbonate moulds too. I decided that it would be a fun goal to try to make a set of 9 pieces to give out to all my friends and family for the holidays. I realized with all the effort I was putting into the chocolates, I should make the packaging presentable and made the boxes too trying to balance aesthetics/personalization with cost and convenience. I got a custom made wax seal and stamps to number each one. I put QR code stickers on the inside to describe them, and also hid a "golden ticket" scratch off just for fun in every box with a random meaningless "prize" appropriate to the community/person I was gifting it to (eg +10 rizz, live forever, deez nuts) Anyways, they all turned out excellent and everyone has loved em. I made 48 boxes total. Each chocolate features at least one chocolate I refined from scratch, but also sometimes blended with Valrhona. So all are completely distinct and intentionally paired in a way I thought was appropriate for the filling. Overall, among them all, includes 7 dark (5 me, 2 valrhona), 4 milk (1 me, 3 valrhona), 1 white (me) mixed in unique ways. Here's a description of each piece: Cherry Cordial- dark (fruity ecuador blend), kirsch Truffle- mixed milk/dark (a blend of like 8 fancy bars I had lying around melted together into a ganache then rolled in arriba nacional powder) Caramel- milk (blend of mine plus valrhona caramelia) PB cup- dark (earthy blend), touch of tart strawberry jam Dubai- milk blend Cookies cream- white Pecan caramel crunch- milk (incl caramelia again) *Pate de fruit *- yuzu mandarin Espresso ganache- dark (a choc I refined w/ vanilla bean, blended) It really was a ton of work and drove me crazy with OCD, but they all turned out hella good. And I think I succeeded in curating a delightful spectrum of flavors and textures with good presentation. There really hasn't been a consensus on which one people favored the most, which imo is the ideal result. Cost wise, excluding the $500 melanger, I'm guessing around $1000. Packaging was a decent chunk of that, and some of those costs were things that I only used small amount of and will have for in future. A couple of days after my previous post (https://www.reddit.com/r/Citrus/s/9VXNl57vf8) I noticed the brown spots were turning soft, so I decided to harvest them even though they were not yet fully ripe. To my relief the browing hadn’t reached the flesh yet. They smelled great, and were much juicier than previous years so the change in fertilization (switched to gradually lessening N content during the year) seems to have paid off. Two of the nine fruits on my little yuzu tree have a strange brown spot on the upper side. What is it, and should I be worried? They’re not quite ripe yet so I don’t want to harvest them just yet if not needed. The two affected fruit are located close together and away from the other fruits. The blemish has the same firmness as the rest of the fruit. We’ve had some night frost a couple of days ago, but this only appeared afterwards, and as said the other fruits are not affected. This is it. My pride and joy. My perfume collection! I've been hesitant to post it here, because I know it is a lot. However, some of you may know me from the Lush reddit page, where during the covid lockdowns I posted around 70 Lush perfume and body spray reviews. I simply love to write (also my profession) about scents, and also test, compare, combine, discover and admire them. That's why I am so happy that I discovered this FemFrag subreddit. I feel truly at home here and I love reading everyone's thoughts and seeing your collections and purchases. I've been slowly becoming more active and that's why I decided to now share my collection with you. I'll list every perfume below. The way I organised my shelves is per season. Went to Great White restaurant in Venice, California today. In town staying at a hotel and grabbed my money clip on the way out as it was just behind the hotel. In California, minimum wage for waiters in this area is around $18 an hour plus tips. Ordered poached eggs for breakfast, which was literally two poached eggs on toast. Hats off to the chef as the eggs were perfectly poached but is a single piece of open faced bread cut in half and two eggs worth $16? Yes, if they are paying a good wage with benefits, I don’t mind. (I don’t know ) Waiter took my order and never saw him again. Bus boy brought the food and I had to get up to get my check after I was done. Went to pay and only had cash with me (not even Apple Pay because I am living in Europe, and my credit card company will not allow me to load it there for some reason) $22 check came and I gave cash. I was told they do not allow cash. I offered to leave $100 bill while I went to my hotel room to get my credit card and they told me just to wait to see if the manager had change. She came out and feeling guilty. I asked where it said they have a credit card only policy. She first told me that it was on the receipt and when I told her that would be a bit ridiculous because it is too late, she told me it was also on the menu. I have included a picture of the menu where it is nowhere to be found. Then she told me that if I was here to argue and “ fact check”her then she would just simply go get cash upstairs and bring me change. After waiting quite some time, she showed up handing me cash and I handed her $25 to pay. She told me she didn’t have change but would take $20 “ if I was going to stiff them” WTF - waiter only took order. Then treated like a piece of shiaat for calling her out on a lie. She is the manager and clearly knows what is written on the menu.
