Finally cleaning out the purse I’ve been using for about 2 weeks😌. Whether it be a lyrical trend or a genre that was genuinely chart-successful, what trend in music has and/or will disappear from the public consciousness after 10 years? Of course, the obvious answer to this is the Latin/hip-hop influenced dance genre freestyle. Huge in the 80s, but you hear it less and less in the present era. But for a more modern example, I'd pick that little time period where every artist was trying their hand at a synthwave/new wave pastiche. But, as you might expect, they were not influenced by actual synthwave artists, but rather one guy in particular: The Weeknd. He's primarily an R&B artist, but Blinding Lights was so much of a fucking juggernaut that it led to a bunch of pop artists trying to make their version of it, from the "Take On Me" influences right down to the uptempo drum beat. I don’t shop very much because I have plenty of clothes but sometimes you just need to buy a little something for yourself for the new season. I’ve been shopping at Zara’s kid section for a number of years. I am 5’3 and an XS. Usually if it is an oversized-style item in Zara I can buy size 13-14, sometimes 16, and it will fit me great! The first that comes to my mind is in Jurassic World where that one woman, Zara (I think that was her name). Is given a very long death scene where they went a little overboard and extra with it, that I was in complete shock where I thought to myself “wow, I know that they want to make this scene look terrifying and haunting, but to give that character such a cruel exit like that was so uncalled for.” I might’ve felt different about it, if the character was very unlikable and unpleasant but she wasn’t. My (32F) stepsister “Kate” (34F) has always had a complex about physical appearance. It caused a lot of issues for her and all of us over the years and stopped her and I really having a relationship. She got therapy in her mid-20s and eventually got to the point of what she calls “aesthetic neutrality”, which means she never comments on anyone’s appearance and we are asked not comment on hers, positively or negatively (fair enough). She enforces this with her 7 year old daughter “Zara” as well. She asked from the time Zara was born that we never make comments relating to Zara’s appearance, even if it was nice things. Everyone in the family normally follows this. A few days ago, we were all visiting my parents’ country house for the weekend, and Zara and my 5 year old, “Anya”, were playing dress up. They came downstairs and my daughter ran over to me and my husband to show us the outfit and we said she looked beautiful in her dress. My husband took Anya to get a snack and Zara came over to me looking pretty dejected and asked if she looked pretty as well. Maybe it was just me being too soft but I couldn’t look at her and not answer, given that she’d asked me directly, so I said yes. Her face lit up and she left the room to get a snack as well. Kate immediately rounded on me, telling me I was undermining her parenting and I know we’re not supposed to make those kind of comments. She said disregarding her wishes as a mother was bad enough but lying to Zara is even worse and is going to set her up for failure in the future is she measures everything by appearances when she isn’t good looking. I understand where Kate is coming from, I really do, and I said as much, but I just didn’t have strength to say anything else when Zara was standing right there. Kate is now mad at me and saying she isn’t sure she wants me babysitting until I can respect her choices on how to raise her kid. I have 4 kids, 23, 20, 16 and 13. This concerns my oldest, I'll refer to her as 'Zara' We don't normally do big parties in our family after double digits (and 18th/21st), but Zara has been going through a bit of a difficult time so we decided to throw her a surprise party. This was yesterday. It was a big family party and Zara was enjoying it. Then the cake was brought out, I have a lot of young nieces and nephews so naturally they wanted to stand up with Zara, and she had no issue. When she went to blow out the candles, my 5 year old niece blew most of them out before her. She then walked off.
