I’m just a beginner with drones and I’m really having fun with the Neo 2. It’s a very beginner friendly drone and so easy to use! This is me trying to fly it to its maximum distance. It was kinda scary but it felt so good! What drone should I get next moving forward? Should I go for the LitoX or one of the Mavic series? Brand new, flew it once or twice, manual mode overloaded propeller motors somehow, (DJI has absolutely 0 warnings about the dangers of manual mode with the NEO2 and I paid hundred extra for the manual controller bundle) and now it wont fly at all and has a ESC error, and im 400 dollars in the drain for something that was advertised as reliable and easy to use. Honestly going to return it to Amazon and never touch a dji product again, overpriced Chinese crap if you ask me! "Best value drone" My Ass! so warning to those who paid hundreds extra for controllers and fpv on the NEO2 the inputs can instantly break your drone! Edit: 0 response from DJi, so glad they can sell 400 dollar bricks with propellers on them and have 0 interest in helping US buyers because their own lack of cyber security cucked them. I got this to add some cool shots to my hiking and backpacking footage, having seen how well the new obstacle avoidance did in a lot of YouTube reviews. (Dudes like DC Rainmaker who i think is pretty impartial, not just the usual shills.) I watched the “extreme Neo 2 torture test” where it survived a bunch of violent crashes. Figured it would be fine if it hit a branch during any of the Autonomous follow modes. It did great in Follow Rear, dodged and weaved around some low branches and I was pretty impressed! Everything was going great. Then, I put it into Follow Forward, High on a wide section of trail, right in the middle, assuming it would stay in front of me. It took off, then immediately veered off far to the right, got stuck on a bare branch, then launched itself off of that FAST down to the left and into the embankment like 20 feet away on the other side of the trail, facing forward. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Everything still works and it flies, but that broken plastic part of the shell does occasionally make contact with the gimbal when it tilts to certain positions. I got it from DJI NYC so I have their care plan, guess I’m sending it in already for a replacement shell. 😩 So, yeah, just be careful, these aren’t quite as indestructible as you might be lead to believe if it hits something at the wrong angle. submitted by /u/Chorazin to r/dji [link] [comments]

I've ordered the new Neo here in the United States so I have to wait for next month to fly it, but it will complement my current fleet of the Mini 4 Pro and Avata 2 along with my RC-2, FPV 3, Motion 3, and Goggles 3 controllers. I've spent the entire morning now watching a dozen plus YouTube video reviews and this is my takeaway so far... The price is unmatched. The cheapest drone DJI sells is a Mini 4K with no controller for $299. The new Neo is just $199 for the drone only which is a price unheard of outside of "toy drones" in 2024. The flexibility is unmatched, including compared to all other DJI drones. The Neo can be used with NO controller with integrated QuickShots controllable with a button press on the drone itself. It can be used with a phone as a controller. It can be flown as a camera GPS drone with a phone and the RC-N3 or RC-N2 controller. It can be flown as a camera GPS drone with the integrated screen RC-2 controller. It can be flown FPV using the Goggles 3 headset and the Motion 3 controller or FPV controller, including a limited "full manual" mode (more on this later.) No other DJI drone has this flexibility and that it exists in a $199 is quite frankly incredible, I really feel bad for Hover and the Hover X1 (which still has some advantages but geez, the price just looks so bad now.) The Neo can fly full FPV manual but if you attempt any aggressive maneuvers that remotely tax the motors and current draw from the battery it will kick you out to normal camera drone mode. The manual mode is more for cinematic style maneuvers and the moment you try flips, dives, loops etc. it will stop you and tell you it's due to drone limitations. I still think it sounds fun, and as an Avata 2 owner adding an extra mini-FPV drone to my existing kit for $199 is pretty incredible. The camera is unfortunately, really, really bad. First off obviously it has no D-Log M or anything like that and further you can't adjust it at all in terms of sharpness, saturation or anything like that. It has both an over sharpened look for the edges of things combined with muddy colors with lots of macro-blocking, surprising since the 75 bit rate isn't "too" horrible. The moment it's in low light (like indoors) you see a huge amount of noise in all the shadows and darker colors appear. I don't think DJI had released a camera this bad for many, many years, at least 5+... this has to be Spark or original Mavic level camera, if not worse. I suppose its what you need for the camera, the images are still "nice" I guess, and certainly if you are filming something fun I doubt you or the people you show the video to would even notice, but head to head with other DJI drones its a big downgrade. It seems the drone has no option for Remote ID. Despite being so lite, remember it still needs to comply with USA FAA rules so if you use this drone for any commercial purposes it needs to have remote ID, which makes this drone a bad choice it seems. The problem is this is being marketed to social media creators with TikTok and YouTube type platforms, but if that platform is monetized you could run afoul of law pretty quickly. So how am I planning to fit this into my life as someone with a Mini 4 Pro and a Avata 2? Well first off I'm stoked it works with all my stuff so again, it made getting at this price a no brainer. I travel every week for work all around the country and I've tried to take my Mini 4 Pro and RC-2 sometimes, and it's ok, but sometimes I just don't pack them. I'm thinking now I might just keep the Neo (just the drone, maybe even with just a single battery) in my carry-on for every single trip and use it as a hiking or site seeing selfie drone when I come across something I want to get a quick aerial picture of something or me in an enviroment. When at home I'll probably use the Neo for indoor flying in bad weather or winter (I know its loud, might need the family not to be at home) and as a change of pace drone when flying FPV manually vs. my Avata 2. I guess it all comes down to if the small size (I wish it folded too like a Hover X1) allows it to be an easy to always travel with drone so I can capture quick videos when a spur of the moment opportunity arises. At $199 (or $289 for the 3 batteries and hub) here in the USA I could justify giving it a chance, in particular because it works with so much of my other DJI equipment.
