Very disappointed with Reolink right now
I know I'm probably going to get hate for this, but I still want to share my experience in case it helps others. I bought a reolink E1 camera because it was on sale on Amazon. I wanted to upgrade from my Tapo C210 because the tapo cameras are AWFUL in home assistant, even though they are half the price, (the integration is buggy and takes pure luck to setup, just don't buy tapo cameras). I fully set it up, installed it onto my wall, and went to integrate it into home assistant, only to find out you can't actually stream the camera feed to it. I can control the pan, tilt, arm, but not actually see the camera stream. That's like saying I can customize my headphones to my hearts desire, but I can't actually listen to music with them. Defeats the whole purpose. Reolink prides themselves on being a part of the works with home assistant program and has a platinum integration rating, and everyone raves about how good they are, and yet I can't get the camera feed from one of their base models into Home Assistant? I guess it only sometimes works with home assistant. I'll be returning my camera and going with something else. Help me decide: Reolink or Unifi
I am about to pull the trigger on a POE camera system but I am probably way over-thinking the whole thing. Here is the dilemma: I am looking at 5 turret type cameras with an NVR using either Reolink or Unifi. The Reolink CX820 vs the Unifi G5 Turret Ultra. The Unifi cameras are 2k vs Reolink 4k, so score one for Reolink. The Unifi Protect software, I understand, is much better than the Reolink software, so score one for Unifi. The price of the cameras is about the same. The Unifi Instant NVR only has 6 ports and comes with a 1TB drive, the Reolink NVR RLN-410 has 8 ports and comes with a 2TB drive. However, I will only ever use 5 cameras. The Unifi Instant NVR has a way to mount it vertically (which I intend to do). The Reolink can do the same, but is a bit bigger and can also mount vertically, but might be a bit more difficult to do. I know there is software (Blue Iris, Frigate, etc) that will improve on the Reolink software, but I'm not really interested in spending hours trying to figure it all out. I used to sell and repair computers, but am just not into that anymore. I suppose I could if there were a large improvement in software. submitted by /u/LeatherOk5480 to r/SecurityCamera [link] [comments]

Honest reviews from long term users
Hi everyone I'm looking for user reviews from people who have had reolink cameras for a few years. What is still good, what has gotten worse over time? Is the app good? Does it deliver push notifications reliably, does it load a live feed quickly and reliably? I've looked on the app store and there seems to be a lot of issues with recent updates. I currently have a full Eufy s330 system and most of them no longer charge (solar) and the motion detection has become very bad. I understand and expect cameras to have performance issues after a few years of constant use but Eufy has been really disappointing for the price. submitted by /u/DonutPapi to r/reolinkcam [link] [comments]

Built a dedicated Bird Monitor using a standard Reolink cam, Frigate, InfluxDB and Sonos announcements!
A lite and cool little project I've been working on. I’ve turned a standard Reolink Lumus 2k camera into a fully automated bird watcher. The Workflow: Vision: Reolink camera feed goes into Frigate for object detection. Enrichment Logic: When a bird is detected, Frigate sends a payload over MQTT to Home Assistant. Alerts: If confidence is high, my Sonos speakers in the kitchen announce the species immediately (TTS). Data: I’m piping all the detection stats into InfluxDB so I can keep long-term records of species frequency without bloating my HA database. The Dashboard: I updated the UI to use the new 2025 Sections View. It’s running Mushroom Cards for the controls and ApexCharts (pulling from InfluxDB/Sensors) to visualise activity peaks and confidence levels. Honest opinions - Reolink with Frigate
I am new to Frigate and am yet to set it up, and currently using Reolink cameras. I can see they are compatible which is good, but compatible does not mean best of course. Real reason for my post is one of my older cameras is playing up and I intend to buy a new one to replace it and slowly upgrade the others, but I want to know if it is worth buying something different now instead of another Reolink or whether Reolink is a good way to go for frigate. Thanks! submitted by /u/seolio to r/frigate_nvr [link] [comments]

Is this true, Reolink integration is now "official" - from/supported by Reolink themselves?
Ad currently running here on Reddit: https://imgur.com/a/aV9QUcq If nothing has changed, this feels disingenuous to me? It was my understanding that the Reolink integration - as amazing and comprehensive as it is - was the effort of one solo developer (starkillerOG) not affiliated with Reolink in any way? i.e.: if he/she ever gets hit by a bus, all the development stops. I know Reolink has had documented API support as of a few years ago. But I've not seen any changes to the integration page indicating it has more that one lone owner: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/reolink/ submitted by /u/Marathon2021 to r/homeassistant [link] [comments]

Why did we accept that security cameras need monthly fees to work properly?
Just realized I've spent $180 on cloud storage subscriptions over three years - nearly as much as the cameras cost ($280). I'm basically renting access to my own footage forever. This subscription model is the tech industry's new cash cow, and it goes against everything BIFL stands for. Why sell something once when you can charge monthly forever? Every major security camera brand does it because perpetual revenue beats one-time sales. The worst part is how they've rigged the game. Companies now deliberately cripple their hardware without subscriptions - limited storage, locked features, cloud dependency. They're not selling cameras anymore, they're selling monthly access to basic functionality. Looking for true BIFL security cameras - buy once, own completely, no ongoing fees. Willing to pay more upfront to escape this subscription stranglehold. Any recommendations for cameras that actually embody the "buy it for life" philosophy? edit: Did some Googling after posting this and came across a brand called Ulticam. On paper it looks like the kind of “buy once, no subscription” option I’ve been looking for, but I don’t know anyone who’s actually used it. Has anyone here tried it? Curious how it stacks up against Eufy, Amcrest, etc. Would love to hear some first-hand experiences before I pull the trigger. submitted by /u/Jealous-Leek-5428 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

I'm tired of Reolink.
We have some Reolink RLC-822A cameras, and 3 out of 4 produce blurry images (Out of focus), with none of them having autofocus enabled. They are set to manual focus, and I have to go in and adjust the focus on those 3 every 4–5 weeks. It’s so frustrating that they can’t just stick to the settings I give them. They are running the latest firmware… so now I’m actually considering switching to something else. Can anyone recommend a 2/4K camera that doesn’t have to be more expensive, and preferably an IP camera (wired)? submitted by /u/ThomasBP81 to r/SecurityCamera [link] [comments]

HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!! reolink security camera.
So few weeks back I asked for recommendations for quick easy cameras because someone cut the lock on my gate. Several people said reolink and THANK YOU. Super super easy to set up and integrate into home assistant and tonight it did its Job perfectly. Someone tried to get near the gate and before they could get close enough to disturb the chain or the camera to even get a good look at them. It detected a person and my lights house lights came on and my speakers started playing an alarm. The twat was gone and out of sight before I'd even managed to get to the door with the dog. Honestly I can't reccomend reolink enough or thank you all for the advice enough submitted by /u/mesoraven to r/homeassistant [link] [comments]

I hate Reolink. Can someone recommend a good alternative?
Hi, I live in the UK. I have a Reolink Lumus on the front and back of my property. They plug in to electric but are WiFi for data transmission which I like as I can’t trail Ethernet cables through the house. Unfortunately the connect is often very poor. I think a unit with antennae might be better. Most of the time the Reolink refuses to connect to a camera, and then when it does connect it’s quite a ropey connection. Sometimes, it works perfectly. I’m unconvinced it’s the range - the camera on the front of the house is like submitted by
