Hello everyone, I recently decided to get three maine coon kittens two males and one female. They will be getting fixed so I know they will grow large. I honestly like the Petkit Purobot Max Pro 2and its functions more than the Litter Robot, but have heard the Litter Robot is better for their size. Anyone have these with their MCs. Or do you think it’ll be okay to get the Petkit and just switch it out after 2-3years? Disclosure: I received this unit for free from PetKit for testing and review purposes. My feedback is based on my actual experience as a multi-cat household owner and IT professional. The Background: The 13-Cat Challenge To give you an idea of the "workload" this box is under, I currently manage a household of 13 cats. Our group is diverse, ranging from energetic younger cats to an older Maine Coon who is quite large. We are a heavy-use household, currently running a PetKit ecosystem that includes a PuraMax, PuraBot Ultra, and several traditional boxes. 1. Unboxing & First Impressions The Build: The box is massive but surprisingly light. It’s an open-top design, so while it has a large footprint (similar to a standard "Large" traditional box), it feels less imposing than the "globe" style automatic boxes. Assembly: It took about 5 minutes. It’s mostly ready to go out of the box, with just the AI camera needing to be attached. IT Perspective: Pairing was seamless. Unlike my PuraMax, which struggled with my long SSID name and spaces (forcing it onto a guest network), the Duo connected to my dual-band Wi-Fi instantly without any complaints. 2. The "Looky-Loo" Factor & AI Camera With 13 cats, curiosity is constant. The AI: The camera captures "highlights" of visits, which is great for health monitoring. However, the AI identification is currently a "guesser." Training it requires multiple specific photos of each cat, which is difficult with a large group. I'd love to see a feature where I can use recorded clips to train the AI instead. Looky-Loos: You will get cats who hop in just to look. While some might worry this "wastes" the life of the tray (which is serialized for 45 days), in a house this size, the tray gets legitimate use every day anyway, so "lost days" from curious cats haven't been a practical issue for me. 3. The Tray Swap & The "DRM" Problem I performed my first tray swap at about the 29-day mark. The Refills: I purchased a 4-pack of the Green Fresh Crystal refills for $79.99 on Amazon. The box arrived nearly as large as the litter box itself. Assembly Required: The refill kit includes four bags of litter and four trays that require you to bolt on waste traps using thick plastic nuts and bolts. It takes a minute, but it creates a lot of plastic waste (bags, wraps, and bolts). I’d love to see PetKit move toward a more sustainable cardboard-based tray. The DRM: The trays are serialized. I’m not a fan of this "inkjet printer" model it locks you into their specific product rather than letting the quality of the litter speak for itself. However, at roughly $20/month for a "no-scoop" experience, the convenience is significant. 4. Performance: Odor & Cleaning The "Killer Feature": The N60 Deodorizer. Unlike the PuraMax or Ultra which only deodorize the waste bin, the Duo actively purifies the air in the room. This has noticeably improved the smell of the entire cat room. Crystals: The litter dries out waste effectively. Tracking is minimal I find a few crystals near the box, but nothing like the "beach" of clay or tofu litter I see elsewhere. Maine Coon Approved: My older Maine Coon uses it primarily for pooping. She doesn’t seem cramped by the open-top design, though she still prefers to pee elsewhere. Final Verdict If you have the extra cash and want the easiest possible cleaning experience, the Crystal Duo is the winner. It’s significantly easier to wipe down than the PuraMax or the complex Ultra. If you’re on a budget: Stick with the PuraMax. If you want the best "Set it and Forget it": The PuraBot Ultra is still my favorite for deep-cleaning intervals. If you hate litter smells in your house: The Duo is the best air-purifier-and-litter-box combo I’ve used. My Suggestion to PetKit: Create a "Family Plan" for the Care+ subscription. Paying a separate fee for every camera-enabled device in a multi-pet home is a tough sell. Reduce the plastic used for the Duo consumables. Make the AI recognition easier to teach. For 13 cats it's not the easiest to upload each angle required. (Allow a video upload or have it learn from use / learn from manual setting) If anyone has a specific question I'd be happy to answer. TAKEN! I have a used PETKIT litter robot ultra max 2. It’s packed up in a box, includes the bags, the odor control blocks and all that. It’s emptied but not super clean. Was $400 new, and it was great…and then my cat passed. The ragdoll doesn’t like it. Great for medium coat cats, is a safe device, as in it’ll stop moving if it detects anything amiss. Easy to clean with a toilet wand, takes regular litter. With one cat I could ignore the litter for a week, and changing the bag out was easy and not messy. Hi, I’ve been using a PETKIT feeder for a few weeks, and the Android notification reliability has been quite poor. Notifications work fine for a few days Then they stop on one device The other keeps working, but after a few days it also starts missing notifications or becomes unreliable Same account, same app, same settings It’s concerning because notifications are a core feature and they don’t seem reliable over time. What the hell man. With no action from either me or my cats, my Pura X will just keep "cleaning" and dump ALL of its litter.
