Took me way too long to realize abs aren't a workout problem
Spent probably two years doing core work almost every session wondering why nothing was showing up. Planks, crunches, leg raises, you name it. Put in the work consistently. Finally got honest with myself about my diet and dropped about 18 pounds over 6 months. Abs showed up almost overnight after that. Felt kind of stupid honestly. My (19f) boyfriend (19m) keeps telling me I’m at high risk of diabetes. How do I address this?
I am a 19 year old woman. I am 5 foot 9 inches tall (177cm), my body weight is 67kg, my BMI is 21.4, body fat percentage is 15.8%, and body fat mass 10.6kg. I go to the gym 5 days a week and perform cardio, ab workouts, and weights. I try my best to eat healthy everyday, for example, I will have either salmon, tuna, chicken, eggs, vegetables etc every day. I also work part time as a waitress, so I am regularly on my feet too. I will admit that I do love chocolate, but not in excessive amounts, I know when to stop. My boyfriend (19m) is also physically fit, much fitter than I am, but I suppose that can only be expected given he is a male. We’ve been together for 3.5 years. Over this period of time, he has always mentioned that I am going to get type 2 diabetes. I was only a very young woman when he first started pestering me about how I’m “definitely” going to be diabetic, and it’s always confused me because I am physically fit with a tall, slim build. Last night I went to his house after I had been to the gym. He was sat telling me how he and his mum had to have a chat with his sister who is 3 years younger about her “mass” sugar intake, also telling her that she will end up diabetic. As he was telling me about this, he turned, looked me dead in the eye, and said “well to be fair, you’re gonna end up diabetic as well aren’t you.” I just burst into tears. He was quite mean to me the rest of the night and didn’t speak to me or even sit near me. It’s like he was disgusted by me for some reason. I am panicked and upset now. This has gone on for years and I am booking an appointment with the doctor to do blood tests to see if I am at risk of diabetes. He is being mean and unsympathetic towards me, despite him being the catalyst to my nerves. I said to him, “if the results come back and say I’m healthy, you have to stop threatening me with this disease, because it’s mean, unfair and untrue” and all he said was “ok”. How to get those abs? I have been consistent with my workout since 2024.
I have been consistently working out since 2024. I am also trying my best to check my calorie intake and be on a calorie-deficit regularly, although I'll be honest, I do one or two cheat days a week. I don't also drink sugary drinks or eat a lot of sugary foods. I incorporate core/abdo exercises to my routine 3x a week and I go to the gym 4-5x a week doing mostly lifting, with progressive overload. I do my cardio outside of the gym by walking or running. What am I doing wrong? I feel like I should look better
I have been working out for 9 months straight of mostly 6 days a week with more recently it being 4-5x a week if I’m lucky, due to a new schedule. I feel like I haven’t lost much fat off of my body for the amount of work I put in. The first photos are before and the second set is after which is self titled “9 Months.” I also attached photos of my workout regiment that I do on a consistent basis. I push myself to failure almost every time, and I maintain a calorie deficit of around 1900 calories with most of that being protein and good nutrients. I also walk 10k+ steps a day whilst at work lifting heavy boxes with most of those steps. I do cardio on my push and pull days, with doing abs on my leg days. Do I need to eat more? Do more cardio? Workout harder? I just don’t know what I am doing wrong. I feel unmotivated, but I won’t let that stop me from going as I love the gym and it’s become an amazing stress reliever for me in times where I need it most.
