Above ground pool
Hey brothers, just got my license and have 6 years in the trade in various setting. Ive done 2 pools in that time but only below ground. So i believe im correct with my plan but id like to get some input to re-assure myself. In Boston , MA I have a 20 x 10 above ground metal pool with 115 v , 11 amp pool pump that has a 6ft cord with standard 3 prong plug. My plan is to put a disconnect 7ft away from the pool on a 4x4 timber post, piped from the house in ½ inch pvc, cut the plug off the pump cord and hard wire to the disconnect. Then run my #8 bare copper around the pool with grounding lugs on the frame at each corner, the stairs and the fence terminating at the pump motor. Circuit will be on an arc fault gfi combination breaker with a time clock inside the house. Theres an existing exterior outlet 20 ft away from the pool also to cover the maintenance outlet requirement. Does anyone see any issues here? Im wondering about the ul listing by cutting the pump cord, but i also believe a standard 3 prong cord is against code as its not a twist lock. I appreciate any input submitted by /u/Remarkable-Bag3113 to r/AskElectricians [link] [comments]

Above-ground pool + heat pump: this actually extended my swim season way more than I expected
ok this might be old news to some of you but for those of us with above ground pools, I want to share what a heat pump actually changed. Pool: 18ft round, ~7500 gal, indianapolis area. Got the pool 2018, ran it bare for 4 seasons. memorial day to labor day basically, water was usually swimmable from like jun 10 to aug 25. that's it. added a solar cover after that, which extended things by maybe 2 weeks on each end. fine but not transformative. last april I bit the bullet on a 55k btu inverter heat pump. slightly oversized for a 7500 gal pool but the next smaller SKU wasn't really a thing. wired it up myself (220v, hardwired to a 30a breaker), connected to the existing return line. this year we were swimming on may 4. legit, water was 78f. cover on overnight, heat pump kicks in around 4am if it drops below set temp, by morning it's back up. last fall we kept swimming until late october. october in indiana lol. that's the part that genuinely surprised me. pool stayed 80+ even when daytime air temps were in the 50s. basically my swim season went from ~10 weeks to ~22 weeks. doubled. for a unit that runs around $1,800-2,200 (caught mine on a spring sale). cost-wise the electric bill bump is real, maybe $$50/mo when it's actively heating. I figured out it was costing me roughly $$2-3 per "extra swimming day" compared to the no-heat baseline. cheap entertainment for the family imo. thinking about it now I should have done it years ago. anyone else extend the season this much? submitted by /u/Oly_e to r/AboveGroundPools [link] [comments]

Buying a house with an above ground pool - help draining
So the title is pretty much what’s going on. The house we are buying has an above ground pool fully enclosed by a dry-rotted deck. We are going to get rid of the whole thing to just avoid the hassle I’d like to be able to drain off the pool completely and list it on fb marketplace with all the equipment for someone else to come collect, but I’m not sure about the process of draining off a pool Can I just like hook a hose siphon up and pump the water directly into a storm drain in front of my house? Or is it safe to just drain directly into my yard? I just don’t want to create moisture issues for me or my new neighbors Any tips or comprehensive guides would be appreciated, pool redditors! submitted by /u/thetorisofar_ to r/pools [link] [comments]

Looking for a good replacement pump, or any tips on a pool like this.
I have this 12’x30” Intex above ground pool. My little boys loved it last year and I’d like to use it again this year but I need a new filter/pump. Looking for suggestions or any tips. I would be fine spending a couple hundred on a replacement that works a little better and moves some more water. submitted by /u/Iron_Hide82 to r/AboveGroundPools [link] [comments]

Calgarian above ground pool owners - do you heat your pool, and how do you do it?
We purchased a home two and a half years ago that came with an above ground pool. The pool is a Polygroup Summer Waves pool, similar to an Intex pool. It is 18 x 18 feet in diameter (a circle), has vinyl siding, a sand filter, but no skimmer. Water depth is approximately 43 inches (3.58 feet). I believe it holds 6832 gallons or 25,862 liters of water. When growing up I visited lakes throughout the summer, so I’m no stranger to cold water. That said, when we have guests over, realistically our “pool season” is short between July and August. Last year I built a rough ambient solar heating apparatus, which consisted of using a large slab of plywood, black irrigation tubing coiled like two side by side vinyl records, pumping water from the pool (a separate pump from the sand filter) into the tubing and back into the pool. There were a few days the water coming out of the tubing was noticeably warmer, however it didn’t have much of an effect on warming the pool. There are lessons learned from the apparatus I built - it would work better by enclosing the box with plexiglass or some other material to retain the heat so it doesn’t dissipate as much from the tubing for example. Something I intend on doing more this summer is to use the “solar blanket” (the large sheet of bubble wrap) to try to maintain heat gains as well as reduce water evaporation. For sure I’ll need to built a crank / reel system as our yard is not very large, and part of the reason I don’t use the solar blanket was because there was not a lot of room to store it when we were swimming. I have read that proper use of a solar blanket has positive desirable effects of maintaining heat. That said, I’m also doing research on other alternatives to heat an above ground pool. From what I’ve learned, a purpose built natural gas pool water heater will heat the pool the fastest, but the cost for the heater, installation, and ongoing cost of natural gas is a concern. I’ve also looked at electric heaters, which is similar to the natural gas heater, but it seems that electric will be slower than gas, but also more expensive. I am quite curious about the air pump / heat pump, which, if I’m correct, is more efficient and cheaper than an electric heater, but that said, the heat pumps are better in more humid environments. Most of the YouTube videos and research I’m coming across is from people in the USA, which is fine, I’m okay to convert F to C but my concern is that with Calgary’s “dry heat” the results would not be the same considering the geography of some of the sources I’m researching. My desire to heat the pool is not to swim in April or May and into October, but rather have a decent swimming season of mid-June to September (maybe mid-September). I have avoided researching inground pools because as I understand it, inground pools have better insulation and the above ground pools, especially vinyl sided above ground pools, have zero insulation. I am curious to hear of any lessons learned regarding DIY projects or preferences in terms of alternative methods of heating an above ground pool, such as a gas or electric heater or a heat pump. Thanks for reading this far! submitted by /u/DeliciousPocky to r/Calgary [link] [comments]

Above ground pool grounding and water bonding
Okay so I installed my pool (not looking super professional yet I know). Apparently it has to be water bonded and grounded which I had never heard of. The county said there is supposed to be a node on my pump to connect a number 8 wire too but it does not exist on my pump. Apparently I’m almost supposed have a 9 square inch bonding surface on the skimmer but I don’t have a skimmer inlet. I just have this pre skimmer esque thing and I can’t find any bonding surface pieces that are made for a pump like this? Has anyone else had to do this on on their intex xtr pools with a sand filter? I never had this any of my above ground pools as a kid lol submitted by /u/Oddshirtyouhaveon to r/pools [link] [comments]

I may have “lost” a new house for my family
I am NOT Original OP — OOP is u/gunchmo posting in r/Mommit Potential trigger warnings: Hurricane Helene, damaged home ——————————————— [Original | December 10th, 2025] I may have “lost” a new house for my family Gosh I am all over the place. I was a stay at home mom to my young kids. We own our old, shabby, drafty small house. In September of 2024, we were hit hard by Hurricane Helene here in rural Appalachia. We do not live in a floodplain or near any bodies of water, but the storm was so intense that it rerouted drainage patterns in the mountains. Our house was completely surrounded by rushing water and it flooded the crawlspace and back two rooms. It was terrifying. The power had been out overnight. I vividly remember getting out of my bed with my 5 month old baby and putting my feet down into several inches of cold, muddy water in my bedroom. I walked out into the living room and my husband and I closed the doors to those rooms and tried to play it cool so as to not traumatize the kids. They were super fascinated by the “cool river going around the house!” and watched raptly out the windows. We lit candles and ate sandwiches and played board games and read books with the kids. We ran out and moved our cars to higher ground. Finally the storm passed and the water drained out. Luckily it did not rise higher than a few inches in the back rooms. So much flood mud and we did not have water, power, or internet for weeks. My mother in law fared even worse; she was evacuated by the local sheriff halfway through the hurricane, and when she returned to her house, she found it underwater. Once the water receded the water line inside was 9 feet up the walls. Her house and all her belongings were a total loss and she immediately moved in with us. I applied for FEMA, submitted all our financial records, and the inspector came within the week and was fairly horrified by the damage. We were granted money to stay in a hotel because our house was deemed "uninhabitable," but all local hotels were booked solid with people in the same situation as us. We would have had to stay in a hotel 1.5 hours away to use the benefit, so we just stayed in our damaged house. 4 months went by. We shovelled out the mud and dug out around the house by hand. We cut out damaged drywall and all the flooring, dried it with fans, treated the studs and joists for mold, and reinstalled subfloor, flooring, and drywall. We didn’t even paint it. We did use the FEMA money to have repairs to our furnace and ducts and install a sump pump. We received about $11k so it did not cover everything but it helped a lot. We were grateful. We didn’t have flood insurance because we didn’t live in a flood plain- this was an unprecedented storm. We used up all of our emergency savings and then some for the rest of the repairs - about $15k. The house is a little wonky but it was very old to start with and we don’t think there is mold. The foundation is literally just rocks and boulders. Every time there was a heavy rain, water would flow downhill in its new drainage pattern and pool around our foundation. Our crawlspace now flooded every time with several inches of water. Every heavy rain I felt so much anxiety, like that night of the hurricane all over again. I would obsessively check the crawlspace/sump pump to make sure it was pumping water out, all night long. Water would be just pouring in like a waterfall. Finally we said this cannot continue, and we took out a home equity loan of about $20k to re-grade the land around our house. This solved the water problem. A few more months went by and I received a phone call from a HUD (Editor's note: Housing and Urban Development) grant that I had been referred to by FEMA for a disaster recovery program for low income families. I applied to the program, submitted all our financial records, and a structural engineer came out and inspected our house. I was assigned a case manager and sent her everything she asked for. She was very kind but it was such a long timeline. I would not hear from her for months at a time. I understand logically this is how HUD grants work, but we now owed money for our mortgage, home equity loan, car loan, some credit card debt for repairs, dental work for my husband, plus the cost of everything such as food, clothing, utilities, insurance was just getting higher and higher. About 4 more months passed. My mother in law and I were both just at home while my husband worked as much as he could. My mother in law is old, has health issues, does not speak English and does not have a work permit. She could however take pretty good care of my toddler at home. It felt logical for me to go back to work. I found a reasonable part time preschool program for my older kids. An acquaintance at the local university asked me to come work as an interpreter for one of their outreach programs. We have a lot of immigrants in this area and I am fluent in the language. I had learned it from living full-time with my mother in law, literally in the months since the hurricane. They offered $30 hourly, which was incredible to me. No benefits but still - I only finished high school. I emailed my case manager and asked if this would affect my eligibility for the grant program, but this was during the government shutdown. I never received a response. I wondered if the program would even still exist after all the government cuts and restructuring and such. I took the job and over the next few months earned about $10k. It helped a lot, but my contract is over now and it was not refunded due to budget cuts. About a week ago my case manager called me and said we had been approved for a total house reconstruction. The structural engineer reported that the flood had damaged the house foundation badly enough that repairs would be over 50% of the value of the house, so it was better to just tear it down and rebuild a similar house for us, all costs covered by the program. I was shocked and didn’t know what to say. I asked if she was serious - she was and you could tell she had had that conversation a few times. She told me that I needed to make an appointment to come sign my reconstruction contract. I need to provide proof of current electric and water service to the property. I awkwardly stammered a lot and asked if she had seen my email from a few months ago. She said she had not and asked what I had sent. I explained about going back to work and gave a rough estimate of what I earned. She got quiet and said it was possible that that would put us over the income limit for the HUD grant program. She would check with her supervisor and get back to me. I haven’t heard from her since. I am just torn up. If I had not worked could we have had a whole new house, with closets? With a real foundation and new non-leaky roof and new materials? Real insulation, not old newspapers? No lead and asbestos? Something I could proudly pass down to my kids one day? We are getting by, but this would have absolutely been the lucky break of a lifetime. Should I have just not mentioned my work? But I will get a W2 or 1099 or something like that for the work so it will definitely show up on our taxes. Will this grant program even check our taxes though? Maybe I should have just shut my mouth. I am proud of myself for landing that interpretation gig and helping us dig ourselves out of the hole a little, but realistically now what? My contract is over and similar opportunities in this area are nonexistent. Obviously I will keep seeking work. Maybe it will make no difference in 5 years. But right now I am alternating between wallowing in misery and refreshing my email every 10 minutes hoping for good news from my case manager. I feel a little better typing this all out. Surely this type of situation has happened to people before. I know I’m not entitled to a new house. But how would you feel, if you were me? I haven’t even told my husband and mother in law yet that the case manager called. Maybe I won’t and I’ll just hope they forget that we applied in the first place. Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: Follow up with the case manager. It’s possible the grant is based on last year’s gross income so what you made in the last few months wouldn’t affect anything. I’m no expert but other government assistance works like that. So there is hope! OOP: I will definitely follow up tomorrow. I feel like a week is a reasonable amount of time to wait without being a pest. I’m hoping that something like this is the case. I know from obsessive internet research about this program that there are different priority groups too, so maybe we will just get moved to a lower priority group but still get a little help. Thanks for the encouragement and for taking the time to read my rambling. It’s really therapeutic to shout into the void/the internet. Commenter 2: i don't know what's gonna happen but you shouldn't feel bad about any result, it's not your fault. i live in a drafty shitty old house that's 100 years old too and way too small for our family and yep there's newspaper insulation and the furnace vents are patched with part of an old billboard lol. many fine people throughout world history have been raised in drafty old crummy leaky houses. in fact i would go so far as to say that the vast vast majority of very fine, intelligent, kind, respectable people, who made great contributions to art and science and humanity, were raised in houses with leaks in the roof and sometimes even livestock inside. there's no shame in a crummy house. i understand wanting a better one but if it doesn't work out don't feel bad even for a second. these things happen OOP: Thank you for replying, this is a really good attitude/perspective and I needed to read it. My husband and his family think this way too. In fact my favorite cousin on that side of the family grew up in a house with a dirt floor. He is one of the most kind, hardworking, and generous people that I know. ——————————————— [Update | December 19th, 2025 | 9 Days Later] Update - I may have "lost" a new house for my family If you click on my profile you can read the old post but it's quite long because I was still processing things when I wrote it. I really appreciated the supportive and helpful comments. To summarize: SAHM of two young children - I applied for an HUD grant for low-income families to repair our hurricane-Helene-damaged house in rural Appalachia. The process is inherently slow and I didn't hear anything for several months so I went back to work part time because we were struggling financially. Shortly after I received a grant award saying that the house was too damaged to repair, and they wanted to demolish and completely reconstruct our whole house (for free!). Basically the opportunity of a lifetime. But I was worried that I had disqualified us by going back to work and increasing our household income above the limit for the grant. The update: We're getting a new house!!! My caseworker got back to me and said that our grant award was based on our household income at the time of the application. And even with the updated slightly higher income we were still not above the low-income level cutoff. Yesterday we signed the contract for a whole-house reconstruction and next week I am supposed to meet our general contractor who will oversee the project! Everything is taken care of - permitting process, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, flooring, fixtures, etc. We will even receive a fridge, stove, and dishwasher! I've never had a dishwasher before. They will grade the lot to minimize future drainage/water issues. We will have to arrange our own accommodations and storage for our belongings during the demo and construction phase, but I already have several prospects. I'm so excited for myself, and for my kids especially. I'm sure this grant is at least partially funded by taxpayer money, so thank you everyone. Relevant & Top Comments Commenter 1: Congrats! I was worried for you and can only imagine what you were going through worrying about losing this chance. I'm so glad this worked out anyway. This is exactly how I want my tax dollars spent. ——————————————— THIS IS A REPOST SUB—I AM NOT OOP. Wearing Power Armor to a Magic School (162/?)
First | Previous | Next Patreon | Official Subreddit | Series Wiki | Royal Road ??? Emma I blinked once. Just once. And that’s when it all changed. Not just my surroundings, not just my vision, not even the constant compression of the undersuit against my skin and the overbearing presence of the tactical info-suite… but my very sensibilities. One blink had taken me from the utter precipice of dread into what was possibly its polar opposite — calm. An overbearing feeling of calm, set against an acute awareness of apprehension and disorientation. My gut told me that everything was alright, that my floating here, armorless, suitless, motionless in a featureless void, was acceptable. Whilst my mind, my prefrontal cortex with all of its rational sensibilities, screamed at me, telling me that something was wrong. I was floating, but with none of the feedback that water or vacuum provided. I was present, yet my body felt more like an afterthought than the physical manifestation of my sense of self that should have been second nature. The world around me was absent, not just muted or empty like in water or space, respectively, but absolutely nonexistent. There were no tells, no resistance against my ‘motions’ as with water, or tiny pinpricks of light — let alone the ever-present sensation of an EVA suit — as would’ve been the case in space. There was just… nothing. And somehow, against all rational thought… my gut told me I was fine. Each passing… ‘moment,’ however, brought with it a gnawing sense of realization, as if there was a truth just out of reach, or at the tip of my tongue, that I couldn’t properly address. It felt like the gnawing realizations of a burgeoning lucid dream. The implicit understanding that the experiences at present were all but a fleeting fantasy, an impossible reality with nonsensical rules and utterly ludicrous assumptions that all gave way to a simple conclusion — this was all in my head, which meant I could easily take control. But I didn’t. Or perhaps I couldn’t. Because as with many lucid dreams, despite knowing and palpably feeling the wrongness of it all, you still felt like a part of it. Or at the very least, trapped within its logic. This dichotomy persevered, ebbing and flowing between gut instinct and rational thought until finally they reached an uncomfortable equilibrium, one that manifested alongside my bearings of this featureless void. Finally, perhaps owing to my adapting vision, I started to make out the basic landmarks of this impossible space. A horizon finally came into focus — this thin stretch of blacks barely dissimilar in hue to the rest, stretching into a facsimile of a sky painted not with colors or the lack of them, but simply varying intensities of dark. Then came the ground, or what passed for it anyways — a thin puddle of what looked and felt like liquid metal, perfectly reflecting the dark around it and, by extension, me. I began pacing, each barefoot step causing neither ripples nor currents to form, further cementing this sort of disconnect between my physical form and this formless world around me. I tried crouching, kneeling closer, and putting my face right up against the edge of this infinite puddle, finding not a single imperfection or flaw in this… impossible simulation. Throughout it all, and my frankly child-like curiosities at the impossible space, my rational mind screamed at me. WHERE WERE WE?! HOW WERE WE OUT OF THE SUIT? WHY AREN’T WE DEAD? WHAT EVEN IS THIS PLACE? HOW DO WE GET OUT?! Yet somehow, the panic brewing in my higher thoughts never trickled down to my conscious present, its realizations merely existing as flavor text against the sense of calm that never once dissipated. This disconnect between the rational and emotional started expanding, as the more I explored, the more I felt eerily… at peace. I didn’t know how to describe it. It was as if I was finally sitting down after remaining on my feet for decades. It felt as if my very soul had been released from my body, and the endless heights of the sensations I felt now were granted by the unshackling of gravity. So lost was I in both thought and motion that I didn’t even realize when I’d sat down. It was only when I looked up, cross-legged and motionless, that I finally regained my bearings. And that was only because I started to notice another presence, one that was eerily missing before but had finally formed following the introduction of the barest of light sources in the ‘skies’ above. It was my reflection, directly beneath me in the pool of dark and liquid metal. My rational mind yelled at me to use this to my advantage, reciting protocol and shouting for self-assessments, which only translated to the barest of motions as I began inspecting my bare skin for nicks, cuts, or marks, but finding nothing. My reflection followed as I used it to my best ability, now better orienting myself following this newfound development. And so I began walking, pacing, one half of my vision locked onto the horizon and the ‘skies’ above, and the other half keeping track of the ground, courtesy of the reflection beneath me. I kept up this casual pace, this nonchalant stroll, my panics fading into the back of my mind, as time itself felt more like an afterthought than a pressing concern. Weariness never overcame me; tiredness felt as lost to reality as time itself. But throughout it all, several constants remained. The world remained perpetually still, the waters impossibly calm, and reality itself as colorless as it was formless save for my reflection, which followed me dutifully. I took a moment, after who knows how long of walking, to stop. Not to rest, not out of any physical strain, but instead a reflexive obligation to a mind that told me that it needed it. It was around this point that my fixations grew over the only truly dynamic presence in the space that wasn’t me. The reflection. I watched the confused expression that stared back at me, at the perfectly mimed motions of a being clearly not of this plane. I continued this almost childlike exercise into futility until I suddenly heard a familiar voice. Emma! My mind racked itself for a moment. Then, it felt like a whole life’s worth of memories flooded back in an instant. My higher thoughts returned, and so did the pressing concerns of the present. Following which, I moved to stand up, darting my eyes every which way in an attempt to find the source of that voice… only to be met with an even more hair-raising ‘voice’ that clued me into the reality of the situation. ALERT! ACUTE EPILEPTIFORM DISCHARGES NOTED IN EEG! GENERALIZeeeddd… se i z … ACTIVATING EMERGENCY MEDICAL PROTOCOLS AIRWAY PROTECTION AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL IMMOBILIZA…t .. .t io … n … The voice of the EVI spoke in a heightened state of distress, going in and out of the stillness of this impossible plane, as if attempting to break through the haze. This forced my breath, for the first time since I found myself here, to hitch up in panic. Panic and anxiety returned in spades, these feelings clashing with a world that refused to acknowledge the very concepts. My pacing grew, as did the wariness mirrored in my reflection. However, hope grew closer and closer the more I ran towards the voices in question as they grew louder with each passing step. That was when I noticed something different as I looked down for a split second to see my reflection following me… but refusing to move. Its arms were crossed, and its whole body sat cross-legged despite my own frantic motions. Yet it was dragged along all the same, like an unwitting projection perfectly matching my pace but no longer my motions. I ignored it, instead focusing all of my attention on maintaining my pace, frantically sprinting at this point towards voices so clear I could practically feel their breaths on the back of my neck. Finally, at what felt like the threshold, an ‘exit’ marked with nothing but a hunch and a vibe, did I find my voice returning to me. “THALMI—” SPLASH! But it was clear I wasn’t the only one to have cheated the eternal ataraxy, as I now felt a presence, a vice grip on my ankle. My heart stopped. And I found myself frozen again, this time out of pure and unadulterated fear. I took a steady breath, or I tried to, not realizing I hadn’t taken a consistent series of breaths this entire time. Then, and with a clench of both fists, did I reluctantly crane my neck backwards and downwards. There, I saw it. A hand. My hand. Piercing through the perfectly reflective pool of liquid, wrapping tightly around my ankle. My gaze was quick to lock onto the rest of the doppelganger, my heart pumping harder and harder as I saw the rest of its form fading into the nothingness of the depths beneath the puddle, further muddying the logic and geometry of this… purgatory of a world. But it was its face. That expression on it. It was the sheer stillness that never once gave way to anything else that truly sent me over the edge. Especially when those eyes began to shift from my own brown pupils to something resembling the abyss that replaced the shatorealmer’s eyes. I couldn’t move. And this time, I couldn’t tell if it was fear that was doing it or something else entirely. … Its vice grip soon loosened. Then, after what felt like another eternity, the doppelganger smiled. … Fear and calm both disappeared. Instead, a certain sense of… detachment took hold; a removal of all worries and the earthly attachments that came with it. It felt… more surreal than surreality itself. But this 'bliss,' this weird serenity of the mind from its worldly attachments, lasted for scarcely a second in the eternity of this place. Very soon, much to the bemusement of the doppelganger, would my curiosity return. This very worldly drive for answers eventually took the spot that fear, calm, and bliss had once reigned. The doppelganger eventually pulled its hand back beneath the waterline, its voluntary withdrawal causing the reflective liquid metal to harden, turning into a solid, glassy surface. Following which, it proceeded to place both hands against the glass, palms-open, as if peering into the other side of an aquarium. Those eyes that’d just sent me into a frenzy now treated me to something completely different— that same sense of awe that bordered on dread but never outright fear. Calm returned to me, of my own volition this time, as something inside both my rational mind and gut instinct told me to give… whatever this was a chance. It… could’ve very easily dragged me down earlier, after all. It had all the opportunities and every chance to simply dominate this headspace that I ultimately had little say or autonomy in. But instead, it chose to remain separate, grabbing me only to garner my attention. Or at least I assumed so. Click! TAAPP! Click! Click! I looked down once again, only to find the doppelganger tapping its finger against the puddle-turned-glass. Silence soon followed, but only punctuating the next few deliberate strikes. Three more deliberately slow ‘taps’ in rapid succession. Then silence. Followed by three more. And then finally a shift. A slow tap followed by a quick click and another slow tap. My confusion persisted but was quickly assuaged as the doppelganger simply gestured for me to look upwards. It was there, after squinting at the varying ‘degrees’ of dark, that the whole ‘plane’ I found myself in erupted in a flurry of colors everywhere, all at once. I… I was witnessing the birth of a universe. But in that birth, I saw something else. I noted a darkness, a lingering splotch of dark that stubbornly refused to change. And it was in that splotch of darkness that I could swear I saw something stirring. TAP! TAP! TAP! TAP! Dragon’s Lair. Central Cavern ‘Foyer.’ Local Time: 0100 Hours. Thalmin It all happened so quickly. Emotions, which were already running high as is, reached its absolute zenith in several rapid motions. First came the complete and utter incredulity at this rare line of communication being severed. … At the most inopportune of moments at that. Then came the sudden shift to concern, as Kaelthyr reared back in a motion that betrayed the pain and shock that’d overcome her. My heart sank. My veins abruptly filled with ice. This… reaction, this visceral cry of unabashed pain from a dragon of all beings, was just about as bad of a sign as could be. My thoughts raced to security, to a potential incursion by some Nexian blackthorn who’d since spotted and was quick to end this short-lived venture into rebellion through an illicit line of status communicatia. I reached for Emberstride, drawing her without a second’s hesitation. … But nothing came. I scried the area for intruders, for any would-be interloper, both corporeal and not. … But again, I saw, felt, heard, and smelled nothing. Confusion was quick to join the litany of conflicting emotions but was as abruptly subsumed by an entirely new feeling — panic. I watched and observed, with both manasight and instincts, as the room flooded with taint. I had to pace back just to avoid consumption, leaping back what felt like several leagues before finally landing on an outcropping where I was finally able to see the source of this taint incursion. Then, it was dread, pure and unadulterated dread, that filled my soul as I watched the shatorealmer’s eyes glow with darkness. I stared on with terror at Emma’s sheer proximity to that deadly force, as all seemed fine at first, and Kaelthyr’s own remarks on Emma’s surprising resistance to taint took to the forefront once more. However, all those reassurances could not change the reality of the situation. As I witnessed, in short order, Emma suddenly fell back-first, her helmeted head rearing backwards and held taut in an unnatural position. “EMMA!” Fear, anguish, and every possible worst bookend slammed me with the force of an unrelenting gale. My heart skipped a beat, then another, as I wasted no time in locking eyes with the undeniable source of this incursion. Hesitation never once came over me as I raised my palm; without any delay, my soul poised to deliver a most righteous end to this heinous beast. FWOO-ZAP-CRACK! I ended him rightly. The cave walls erupted in a flurry of fire and fury so immense that it left a trail of permanently seared stone as a testament to the path of death leading to a now-eviscerated shatorealmer, a being whose traces now lay scattered amidst the floor, walls, and ceiling of the room. Though no more charred and blackened soot than anything else. The incursion of taint, however, lingered for a split second longer. But only a split second. As it eventually, as taint often did, simply dissipated, crushed and overwhelmed by the nascent manastreams ready to bring order to chaos. It was here that a second’s hesitation returned to the forefront, if only to ensure that the taint had well and truly dissipated. For what good would rescue be if the unwitting heroes die at the foot of the injured? … “EMMA!” I bellowed out, leaping down and landing just short of her still form. It was there, at the foot of her completely unresponsive body, that I realized I had no means of helping her further. All my healing magics, limited as they were, were useless. All of my training, my understanding of battlefield healing, could only inform me of a likely truth. Touching, or moving, or doing anything to her motionless state… could actually incur more harm than good. This growing discordance, this heightened turbulence, eventually culminated in me addressing the only other being who may have a clue as to what the next appropriate step should be. “Matriarch! Matriarch, you have to get up! You have to tend to Emma immediately!” I demanded. The convalescing dragon, however, seemed more dazed and confused than helpful, as she simply shook her head violently in response, as if trying to regain her bearings. “Do you… not see… the state of affairs, princeling?” The dragon responded, though her speech, her 'voice,' had changed drastically in the ensuing seconds. “I do. And we must expedite—” “I know not… how.” The dragon countered. It now felt as if she was speaking through the winds themselves, the cave walls echoing and the crystals resonating with her voice without a definitive start nor end. For no longer was she speaking through her own throat, nor the throat of some fallen corpse, but instead… the very air itself. I took a deep breath, the unwelcome feeling of helplessness coming to dominate my consciousness. … But not before another thought entered the fray. “Then we must send her home.” “What?” “You were able to open a line of communication back to her realm! Surely, a dragon such as you, must be able to pierce the veil in a manner that mere elves can—” “Cease with your foolishness, princeling! CEASE!” Kaelthyr practically growled out with a whistling gale. “Do you not hear yourself speak?!” “I… I do, but what other option do we have—” “We must wait for fate.” “What?” “If she truly is what I, and surely you, assume her to be, then we must wait.” “I don’t—” “The prophecy you speak of — the harbingers of death and doom to the Nexus — it is but one part of the tale, is it not?” My eyes darted back and forth, not wishing to play conversation when my comrade-in-arms lay wasting away. “Just be out with it, Matriarch!” “The ‘final confrontation' speaks of this: the arrival of a foreign culture, born of foreign constraints, nurtured in the auspices of foreign patrons…” The dragon paused, as if wishing to emphasize that latter sentiment through silence. It was at this point that my heart skipped another beat, and my gut churned in dread. “Are you saying that the entity, being, or whatever it is that incurred such a visceral reaction from you, is none other than this ‘patron?’” “The same presence I felt smothering me and the voidlings during our conference, yes.” I couldn’t move. My whole world tensed at the possibility of an entity, a powerful spirit, a god, or… whatever being may exist that possessed the potential to so callously rival dragons in their reach. But this couldn’t be. Emma had mentioned nothing of a patron. These… were merely the musings of Ilunor and Kaelthyr, potentially limiting its reach to a tale of draconic origi— But even Mal’tory spoke of the same notion, if Emma’s ‘recordings’ of that fateful conversation were anything to be believed. I shook my head violently, wracking my mind for answers but ending up with even more questions than anything else. “You may have just killed its proxy emissary by the dispatching of that shatorealmer, princeling.” The dragon teased me with a sly chuckle, causing my grip to tense around Emberstride's hilt. “Then answer me this, Matriarch. What sort of patron would incur this—” I paused, pointing at Emma’s still form. “—upon its client?!” “Do you dare to apply your preconceived notions on normalcy. In a circumstance as foreign as this?” Kaelthyr challenged slyly. And though disparaging in its intent, I couldn’t deny the reasonable logic that backed it. “This could merely be communion of sorts between voidlings and whatever patron they may have. Though what follows after a forceful severing of said communion, I cannot say.” The dragon continued, now pinning the blame onto me. “She never spoke of such entities.” I surmised. “If anything, I saved her by preventing further harm.” I then glared daggers at the dragon. “I can say with certainty, however, that I surely have saved you from harm.” “Choose your next words with exceptional care, princeling.” Kaelthyr hissed. “By right of honorable conduct, you owe me a debt, Matriarch.” I announced fearlessly… despite fear very much welling within me. The dragon’s eyes shifted once more, narrowing and piercing my very soul with their enigmatic intent. “You speak of Expectant Decorum?” “No, of course not. I know that a being such as yourself eschews such elven trivialities.” I countered. “Then you speak of the old ways.” Kaelthyr surmised. “Yes.” “Then you know well I have no obligation outside of—” “Honor.” “An honor amidst mortals.” She countered. “But honor all the same.” I reasoned, garnering a pause, then an amused smile from the beast. “You amuse me, princeling.” Kaelthyr acknowledged before promptly nodding. “Go on then, what sort of favor do you wish to call upon.” “If you cannot open a portal to Earthrealm, then you can at least send the both of us back to the Academy using teleportation magics.” I urged, garnering a wide-eyed glare from the beast. “That I know you can manage, and from there, I may be able to send Emma back by right of—” “I cannot honor a favor requested in duress.” Kaelthyr countered bluntly. “You know not the implications of what you request, for it will spell the death of us all, princeling.” I shook my head, reaching both hands around my ears as if in an attempt to physically pull ideas from my— “Ugh…” A voice, followed by a stirring, emerged from behind us. I felt relief and a whole mountain’s worth of weights lifting off my shoulders as I ran to Emma’s side with a spell-aided dash. “Emma!” I hollered. “Emma, are you alright?!” But instead of any coherent response, all I received was a series of slurred and unintelligible noises, a trend that continued for many, many more painful moments until she finally raised a single hand. “Am… am fin— Fine…” She finally managed out, just barely. “Me… medicines… causing tired and confuse…” “I-it’s alright, Emma. Please rest. We can continue this in the morning. We have time. We have time.” I reassured her, grabbing ahold of her hand and squeezing it tight. “Ok… keep… watch… I’m gonna… pass out…” 9 Hours Later Dragon’s Lair. Central Cavern ‘Foyer.’ Local Time: 1000 Hours. Thalmin Both Kaelthyr and Emma had gone into what I could only describe as a deep hibernation following the start of my sentry. Indeed, I would have found myself envious of their rest, if not for the horrors both had faced prior to that slumber. In that time, I found ample opportunity to simply… reflect on the events of the past day. The clash with Ignalius and the recovery of the crystal were indeed monumental successes in their own right. But the encounter with Kaelthyr and the rewriting of the Nexian narrative? That was where things truly departed from mere tales of adventure to one of epics, if not mythical heights. Indeed, I found myself reliving those few monumental hours over and over again with a mix of pride, hope, fear, and ultimately… abashment. The proposal for Emma’s hand in marriage… was a mistake. Not just because of Asva — though that thought did weigh on me heavily — but because it was a step too far, and a step far too soon. And even if my fears were warranted, even if it was clear that the line of communication was indeed at risk of outright collapse, pushing for an agenda as paradigm shifting as that was just… as Kalim would say — a desperate play. I loathed the conversation that will inevitably come following all of this. But more than that, I feared what Emma may say about this potential… patron of the void. If that sort of thing even existed. … Sure enough, as these things often went, Emma began stirring the moment I decided to begin unwrapping our rations. I sprinted towards her once more, making sure I was by her side as she returned to the realm of the living. “Thank the ancestors. You’re finally awake.” “Aurgh…” Came Emma’s response, as a part of me worried if her condition had not yet improved. “Fuck… I… that was… did that all really—” Emma paused, as if once again returning to her knightly display of stoicism, entertaining some internal reprieve, before addressing me once all was said and done. “It did… but only so far as the call back home went. Everything else was… it was all in my head? A seizure-induced hallucination?” Emma began babbling, causing me to cock my head in confusion. “We were indeed able to establish a temporary and illicit line of status communicatia, Emma.” I acknowledged. “Though that is the extent of my own experiences. Immediately following my…” I cleared my throat, looking away in abashment. “... proposal…” I immediately moved away from that topic as quickly as I’d touched on it. “... did we find the line severed. Kaelthyr was subsequently incapacitated, which prompted you to help, but—” “The shatorealmer.” She interrupted plainly. “And then you…” “I killed it, yes.” I nodded. “I… apologize if that had in any way interrupted any ‘communion’ with whatever entity you were in audience with—” “Wait, what? You knew what was happening?” Emma interjected with a growing concern. “No. All I saw was your own loss of consciousness, followed by a conversation wherein Matriarch Kaelthyr proposed—” “That you were in the audience of your void patron.” Kaelthyr interrupted with a long growl of a yawn. “Because I now understand what it was that smothered both me and incurred the reactions of your fellow voidlings. It was the presence of a great, unfathomable being from your side of the portal. Not the unintended effects of ‘pressure differences’ between mana and taint, as was proposed by your scholar.” Emma paused, refusing to continue her train of thought as she placed her helmeted head firmly between two outstretched hands. “Emma.” I urged softly. “What… what did you see? What exactly happened during your unconscious state?” Another silence punctuated the tense scene, as Emma merely reached for her belt, connecting her ‘food pouch’ to the ‘rim’ of her mouthpiece. “I saw nothing.” Emma finally spoke, causing both Kaelthyr and me to glance at each other in tepid disappointment. “But at the same time… I saw everything.” That mutual look of disappointment soon turned into abject confusion, as Kaelthyr was quick to urge Emma on. “Elaborate.” “I… I saw…” She shook her head. “I was in the void. A dark void, a completely barren and empty black. Blacker than even the void I’ve been to back home. I was floating, without my armor, and then suddenly… I saw the horizon. From there, the ground beneath me turned into this thin puddle of water, where I saw my reflection — the only other entity there. And after what felt like years of listlessly existing in that nothingness, I heard your voice. That interruption alone caused the realm of nothingness to start stirring, changing, and reacting to external stimuli completely alien to it. Chief amongst those changes being my reflection. Its eyes shifted to become that of the shatorealmer’s. Then, it tried to communicate to me, and not in the same way the null did, mind you. Because this… this thing? It didn’t feel threatening. If anything, it felt like it wanted to talk. It beckoned me to look at the skies, and when I did, I saw… well… nothing… followed by everything.” “What exactly do you mean by that, young Matriarch?” Kaelthyr pushed harder, her features already growing more confused by the second at Emma’s disjointed story. “I… I don’t really remember it clearly, this was about when I was ‘pulled’ out of the whole… dream? Hallucination? Anyways I… I saw an explosion of color, and stars, clusters, and just… everything everywhere. But it was in those stars that I noticed something else it pointed towards. A dark, empty splotch of sky that was seemingly untouched, or perhaps just absent of said vibrancy. I… I don’t know what I saw inside of it, maybe something stirring, maybe nothing at all. But that’s when it all just ended.” I looked to Kaelthyr now for answers as the dragon seemed to be in deep thought, her eyes squeezed closed as her paws tapped incessantly at the ground. “So you could say… there was a crack in the grand facade?” Emma nodded slowly at this, all the while cocking her head in confusion. “I… guess? It was just a black splotch where everything else was just bright and vibrant.” “Then it is as I feared.” The dragon spoke with a growing wariness, the stagnant air of the cave whistling with a palpable apprehension. “This entity, your patron, does not like intrusions into its domain.” First | Previous | Next (Author's Note: Mysteries are afoot, and Emma experiences all of this first hand! AITA for getting home insurance canceled?
A friend had a birthday party at their house for their daughter(11). My daughter (10) was invited. Eventually the kids decided to play football and BG’s dad was throwing the football and my daughter was running to catch the football. This is important to know for later, Last summer, while out of town, my friends had an above ground pool that broke and flooded the backyard. It caused a massive amount of damage. Their homeowners insurance got involved because of the structural damage that this pool breaking caused. Due to the construction that they had been having the area where they were playing football had ruts in the ground from the machinery that they had in the backyard to reconstruct the retaining wall. As my daughter was running to catch this football, she tripped over a rut. When she fell, she fell into a large metal box that was the housing for the pool pump and water intake/outflow. The box and something inside broke and water began flooding the backyard. They turned the water off, but they had to turn the water main off because of the way that they decided to “fix” this pump when the pool broke originally. So they were without water for about 48 hours until they could get a plumber to come out and actually fix this pump correctly. when my daughter fell, she broke her collarbone, and she severely sprained her ankle and knee. About a week ago, we received a certified letter from our friends, informing us that they were charging us for the cost of repairs to this broken pump the cost of the water damage to the backyard as well as them being without water for 48 hours. Here is where I may be the asshole because immediately upon receipt I called their homeowners insurance (this is information I had previously from discussing the situation that had developed over the summer with my friend ) so that I could submit my daughter’s medical bills to them. So I could be the asshole because I am being petty. My friend called upset that I would report this to their homeowners insurance because their homeowners insurance had already increased due to their claim and now they received information that were being dropped due to their excessive claims. Do I have medical insurance for my child? Yes, I do. Up until I received the certified letter my husband and I were going to cover the cost of my daughter’s injury ourselves. So I could be the asshole because I am being petty. My friend called upset that I would report this to their homeowners insurance because their homeowners insurance had already increased due to their claim and now they received information that were being dropped due to their excessive claims. submitted by /u/Competitive_Chip_468 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Debunking the top 'immigration is not a primary driver of the housing crisis' in Australia myths (long)
Note - this is written by hand, compiled bit by bit over a few months, not AI before people try and make those token comments. It's also f-ing long, but it's better than having to make ten million scattered comments on other threads addressing all these issues individually over & over again. I also work in a space that intersects real estate data, investing and finance, and deal with these types of numbers daily. ____ First, it's helpful to just start off with just the raw ABS data on Australian immigration figures & countries so that people can see the raw numbers we're debating. These are the NOM (Net Overseas Migration) figures to Australia from the ABS from 2015-2025 to give an idea of the recent trend while also including pre-Covid years for comparison: 2015 - 184,030 2016 - 206,230 2017 - 263,350 2018 - 238,220 2019 - 241,340 2020 - 192,700 2021 - (-84,940) 2022 - 170,920 2023 - 528,000 2024 - 446,000 2025 - 306,000 Our current 'reduced' level of 306,000 (https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/people/population/overseas-migration/latest-release) as reported at the end of 2025 is still ~25%+ higher than pre-Covid, and over 40% higher than the ~10-year average. Objective fact: our population in the country, regardless of visa status, increased by nearly ~1.3 million people living here in just three years, just from immigration, not counting natural births which would make it even higher. For comparison, that's slightly less than the entire population of Adelaide, or nearly 4 x the population of Canberra. By Country: Net overseas migration for 2023-24 by country, countries with the most permanent migrants to Australia (excluding those with a humanitarian profile) are: India People’s Republic of China Philippines Nepal United Kingdom Pakistan Vietnam Sri Lanka South Africa Iran https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/research-and-statistics/statistics/country-profiles/profiles The breakdown of the intake from the 'top' handful countries by volume for the past year looks like this, which is a factor due to the heavily white-collar-focused intake from these main source countries: https://preview.redd.it/oqorp22qbyjg1.png?width=1964&format=png&auto=webp&s=7b16ccc3447af9cc68980ca87e16ff79000dda0e _____ Now, let's get to debunking the individual major 'myths' repeated on this topic that attempt to underplay the effects immigration has on Australian house prices. Myth 1: "Immigration only affects house prices a tiny bit, but it's not one of the main causes so not even worth talking about" False. Even studies that have attempted to prove that immigration doesn't affect house prices much have STILL estimated it to be the reason for well over 20% of price rises. E.g: this study from 2020 (conducted pre-Covid, when things weren't even as bad as they are now) which the Grattan Institute consistently cite in their various justifications for this & is used as one of the most frequent justifiers in all sources on the topic: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S105681902301151X "We find that an immigrant inflow of 1% of a postcode's population raises housing prices by around 0.9% per year. As a result, Australian housing prices would have been around 1.1% lower per annum had there been no immigration." Based on the average Australian annual house price rise of 3.8% per year (for the years prior to Covid which the study is based on) across Australia from 2010-2019, versus a 1.1% attribution to immigration = immigration accounts for approximately ~29% of the annual price growth. That's almost one-third of the price rises, attributed to a single cause... in a study conducted when immigration numbers were much lower than they have been over the past few years. The only other single factor that is estimated to have even close to such an effect on house prices is zoning restrictions (not negative gearing, not AirBnB, not the CGT discount, not interest rates). And even that (higher-density zoning changes) is based on the assumption people will simply shift their lifestyles to live in small, inner-city apartments from larger living spaces if zoning is changed, which Aussies have consistently shown they are reluctant to do. Myth 2: "Migrants are the ones who are building the houses in the first place" Recent migrants work in construction at much lower rates than the local population, thus making the situation worse, as we bring in far more people who require houses built for them than who actually build themselves: https://theconversation.com/australia-is-welcoming-more-migrants-but-they-lack-the-skills-to-build-more-houses-222126 "Migrants who arrived in the last five years account for only ~2.8% of the construction workforce, despite representing ~4.4% of all workers overall - indicating relatively low participation in construction trades among recent migrants." - Grattan Institute This is further exacerbated by the shift of our immigration intake towards source markets from which tradespeople are under-represented; as The Conversation indicates, the primary source immigration markets for skilled tradespeople are the Philippines and New Zealand; as these become disproportionately a lower part of the intake, they drag down the percentage of tradies with them. Even in recent years as the government has supposedly tried to 'increase' this, as a share of purely permanent skilled visas we still have roughly ~13% going to construction occupations, where mathematically in order to make up actual ground on home building that number needs to be closer to 30%+. Our top 10 'skilled visa' job roles consistently contain jobs such as Cook/Chef, Cafe Manager, Marketing Specialist, Accountant, as well as a couple of (vital) medical roles such as Nurse. https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/research-and-stats/files/temp-res-skilled-report-30-jun-2024.pdf Regardless of what you personally think about the relative 'necessity' of each of these roles to Australian society, the fact of the matter is they all require additional housing and soak up existing supply. Myth 3: "International students live in special student accommodation & don't take up 'normal' housing" Again, categorically false; even the Labor government has directly stated this. "The Education Department’s analysis shows about half of the 696,162 student visa holders in Australia were living in the private rental market in 2024, while another 135,000 students will enter private rentals next year under conservative estimates." https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/minister-concedes-immigration-too-high-as-students-compete-for-city-rentals-20240920-p5kc3i.html Australia also currently faces a serious under-supply of student accommodation, a.k.a "PBSA" (Purpose Built Student Accommodation): "The Student Accommodation Council estimates that 84,000 new PBSA beds are needed by 2026, but only 7,700 are currently in the pipeline, leading to a range of challenges for students, universities, and local communities." https://tbhconsultancy.com/from_crisis_to_opportunity_unlocking_australias_student_housing_future/ CBRE (property developer) even estimates that only 6% of students in Sydney & Melbourne can access PBSA near their uni's: https://www.cbre.com.au/insights/reports/student-accommodation-2025-pacific Myth 4: "It's property investors driving up prices, which has nothing to do with immigration" Simply put: people almost universally do not invest in houses without the guarantee of A) someone needing a place to rent (which subsidises the investor loan), and B) the expected guarantee of capital gains upon selling, due to there always being someone desperate enough to buy for a high price as a result of a growing population. No amount of tax settings, whether it be negative gearing or the CGT discount, can make residential property attractive enough if neither of these are true. Tax settings simply amplify the benefits of demand; they don't create it from scratch... people needing a place to live do. Banks also assess risk in granting investor loans based on estimated rental yields and vacancy rates; if those are low, they will simply not give out as many loans to investors. Banks and lenders look at an investor's serviceability (their ability to pay back the loan) based on two income streams: the investor's salary and the projected rental income of the property. Our current record-low rental vacancy rates guarantees a pool of desperate renters willing to pay overs, which property investors look at and know they can exploit to charge high rents, adding enough rental yield $ to justify the math of the property loan. If vacancies were high, rents would be falling, then investor demand would fall sharply. Myth 5: "House prices went up during Covid, therefore immigration does not drive house prices" The "COVID argument" is a classic example of ceteris paribus ('all other things being equal') being ignored. All other things were not equal during COVID - while the "migration engine" was turned off, all major other "engines" were turned to maximum. This is what's known in rhetoric as the "Single-Cause Fallacy". This is a logical error that attempts to justify that because multiple other things happened, it therefore means something else therefore can't be true. In reality, the COVID-19 period didn't prove that migration "doesn't matter"; it simply proved that other factors were temporarily much stronger, enough to override it. Interest rates were lowered to record-low levels; construction material costs surged; the government handed out enormous amounts of stimulus money; mass amounts of people were given Work From Home rights & wanted bigger places to live; people weren't spending on anything else so pumped all their money into housing. This was a one-off anomaly; if immigration had somehow ALSO been as high as it is now during that time, it would have created a 'double-squeeze', putting even more pressure on prices. Myth 6: "Migrants mainly rent, not buy, so they don't affect house prices" Even if it's true that many migrants rent first (which it mostly is), they still increase demand in the housing system. As mentioned before, tight rental markets raise rents, which increases yield $ on housing. This also results in houses being kept as rental properties, removing the house from the 'buyer pool' and removing an additional property that a potential First Home Buyer or other person looking for a home could otherwise purchase to live in. International Students are also able to buy properties while living here, not just rent, which has been happening at an increasingly frequent rate as they look to escape being gouged on rent themselves: https://www.sbs.com.au/language/chinese/en/article/international-students-tackle-australias-housing-crisis/n8yoysj3p Myth 7: "But international buyers comprise only a tiny percent of the house purchases each year" This is misinformation that comes from people thinking data on International Investors is the same thing as immigration. The 'tiny percent' figure of 'foreign buyers' is people from overseas approved by FIRB to buy properties here to use as investments; it's often used as a way to park foreign money as Aussie property is seen as a 'safe haven' for many wealthy people from overseas. Labor recently instituted a (temporary) ban on this practice for 2 years; in 2022-23, the last financial year for which data is available, there were 5,360 foreign home purchases, which is where the "less than one per cent of all sales" line people spout on this issue comes from: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02-16/labor-matches-coalition-ban-on-foreign-housing-investment/104941620 These are the people who 'buy apartments and leave them empty' that people cite as a boogeyman and act like are reflective of the entire property investment market. This has nothing to do with immigration, and is (was?) only a much smaller driver of demand, albeit still a small factor. Myth 8: "It's a supply issue, not a demand issue" Perhaps one of the most brain-dead 'arguments' on this issue that is repeated over & over again... politicians in particular seem to LOVE this line. There is simply no such thing as 'only' a supply issue or 'only' a demand issue. It's a 'false dilemma' that ignores that supply & demand are two ends of the same spectrum, with the only difference at any one time being how easy one or the other are to address. It also suggests you must choose between blaming supply or demand, but in reality, price is the intersection of both. High migration acts as a "multiplier" on bad supply policy. If supply is already restricted by zoning (as groups like Grattan argue), and we also lack the labour force to build enough supply at the rates required to keep up with population growth, then adding more people creates an even more extreme price spike than it would in a flexible market with higher vacancy rates. And due to our aforementioned lack of tradespeople (due to migrants being under-represented in construction), supply is currently far harder to address than demand. Myth 9: "Migrants are poorer and can't afford expensive homes/migrants only live in apartments" This attempts to lump all migrants into a single group, ignoring the fact there are multiple categories of visa (students, temp skilled, permanent skilled, working holiday, parent, etc. etc.) that all have different financial situations & levels of wealth. People on Reddit who rabidly defend high immigration often make the smug 'Schrodinger's migrant' comment, implying a sarcastic (and naive) assumption that a migrant can only affect one part of the market. In reality, the high volume of migration puts pressure on both ends of the spectrum simultaneously through different mechanisms. International students and low-skill workers compete directly for low-cost rentals. This drives up the "floor" of the market & when the cheapest rentals disappear or spike in price, it forces everyone above them to pay more, creating a ripple effect that pushes up the median. Australia's migration intake is also heavily skewed toward Skilled Visas. Many of these arrivals are also high-income earners who arrive with significant savings, often in currencies strong compared to the $AUD, or with pooled funds sourced from family members given to them specifically to buy property after arriving here. This cohort don't just "rent a room", they compete for mid-to-high-tier housing either immediately or within a few years. Myth 10: "You are just blaming immigrants" False, and a favoured technique of those trying to turn the discussion into an emotional one, and/or try and get discussions on this topic locked or removed. Blaming immigration (policy) is not the same as 'blaming immigrants'. Immigrants themselves do not set the policy, and attacking the way the government handles intake composition, infrastructure spend, housing supply etc. are not related to the individual people coming here themselves. By attempting to shut down discussion on immigration policy, you are attempting to imply that people are unable to criticise the government, which is a core aspect of non-democratic, totalitarian & fascistic societies. ___ Summary: If you actually read this whole thing, credit to you. Is immigration the "only" cause of the housing crisis? Of course not - the title of this post is a primary driver, not the only driver, and that's not what's being stated anywhere within this post. However, it's a factor that (on Reddit especially) is constantly told to not talk about at all and/or is not relevant, which is also obviously untrue. Even if we accept the absolute best-case scenario that immigration contributes 'only' ~30% of price rises, that would make it by definition one of the 'top 3' factors, and one that doesn't require multi-year solutions to address. I look forward to the rebuttals/half-truths from the property investors, business owners, international students who use Reddit etc. who will all no doubt brigade this thread and try to use the "R" word in order to continue to justify this broken system continuing. submitted by /u/NoLeafClover777 to r/aussie [link] [comments]

Wearing Power Armor to a Magic School (154/?)
First | Previous | Next Patreon | Official Subreddit | Series Wiki | Royal Road Dragon’s Lair. Foot of the Hill. Local Time: 2200 Hours. Ignalius “LOSANTIA!” I bore no harsh feelings for the child playing mercenary. Indeed, if he survived this, I’d have played the reticent deuteragonist in his story. A role — nay, a calling — that fate so often bestowed on its most deserving, to act as culler, separating the wheat from the chaff. He’d grow stronger by my actions, become wiser to the world through my well-intentioned deceits, and perhaps even learn a valuable lesson — about things as they were outside of the colorful realm of delusions and flights of fantasy. Today the boy playing Dreadwolf would die, and in his place would come forth a wiser man. That was, of course, provided he did survive. Which, in the flash that followed, didn’t seem likely. I lowered my wand but only ever so slightly as I awaited the dust to settle amidst an otherwise unsettling sound that tickled my ears. Dragon’s Lair. Cave Entrance. Local Time: 2200 Hours. ??? The air bristled with the wrath of a mother scorned. Her features hidden, her presence muted, but her rage exposed through that sharp and steady droning — an elevating whiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrr that tickled my senses and nipped at my scales. Energies swirled, manifested from nothing. I opened my eyes — all of my eyes — watching through these pathetic restraints with a curled snarl. Do it. Dragon’s Lair. Foot of the Hill. Local Time: 2200 Hours. Fisia the Swift My job has always been simple. Take care of the horses, stay behind with the mounts and wagons, be ready for any retreat no matter how sudden or swift… and of course, the dreaded cleanup duty. A job, which was clearly once again needed, because surprise surprise… The boss had done it again, right in front of me this time, in fact. Not that I minded. In a repeat of the events at Rontalis, he’d disposed of another set of would-be travelers. I could only hope that their deaths were of the corporeal variety, as I could already feel the tingly sensation of separating goop from armor when the call to loot eventually came. Not that I cared much. A ten, forty, fifty split was decent, and unlike some other travelers who I felt for, the uptight, self-assured aura this lupinor gave off simply made it impossible for me to sympathize with his demise. So I waited, rubbing my eyes in an attempt to work out the ‘haze’ of that soul-splitting attac— BANG! The whole world shook, and my lungs gave in — air and wind forcibly squeezed out — as if some spiteful air elemental had claimed my breath as their own. POP! I heard… no… I felt something give, something inside my head, followed by a sharp piercing pain that sent me to my knees. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinngggggggggggg I screamed out but heard nothing, only the ringing in one of my ears and my own cries echoing within my skull. My hands reached out, grasping the sides of my head, deafened by the sound and blinded by the pain. Only a few seconds later did I finally notice something else besides that infernal ringing. It started as a thin mist of something warm and viscous, sticking and running down my exposed skin. Then an unmistakable metallic tang forcibly entered my nostrils, filling my lungs with a faint rusty scent. My whole body clenched, freezing in fear, before curiosity finally overtook uncertainty forcing me to open my eyes to assess what had— … No. Nonononononononono… I struggled to my feet only to find myself falling flat against my rump next to the pool of what had used to be the Alicorn. My eyes quickly turned to the boss, who stood where his prized mount had just stood, that fancy armor actually doing what it was supposed to… or at least, I think it did. Because despite the sacrificial swap, the boss should’ve still been wearing it. It couldn’t have just disappeared. It couldn’t have just vanished. The only reason why it could’ve been lost in the swap was if it had been irreparably damaged in the attack. … … Crap. Dragon’s Lair. Cave Entrance. Local Time: 2200 Hours. Emma “What the hell?” [RAILGUN DISCHARGE COMPLETE. AMMUNITION CYCLE… COMPLETE. CHARGE CYCLING IN PROGRESS...] My eyes widened as, in what seemed like an instantaneous moment in time, I found that my target had quite literally just… swapped places. The Alicorn… was gone; no sign of its existence remained save for the mist of red that caked the entire area. And in the space that it had once occupied was now an armorless Ignalius, his pure-white gambeson and pants stained, as was much of the left side of his face. Indeed, quite a few personal effects had scattered from his person following the swap and apparent disappearance of his armor. From sacks of gold to belts of potions to even daggers and… … No… I motioned silently for the EVI to hone in on a particular bloodied artifact caked in dried blood at Ignalius’ feet. A brief zoom and a cursory glance, even without the EVI’s forensics suite, was enough for me to tell what it was. Its suede brown cover, the built-in bookmark resembling a forked tongue, and that handwriting complete with a signature that looped around resembling the four ‘horns’ of a kobold… it beckoned a master that was no longer with us. If there was any lingering doubt as to Ignalius’ involvement with Togor’s murder, then all of it, every last shred of it, died the moment my eyes landed on that book. The whole world went silent. But while all were shocked by the power of the railgun — raw, unmitigated, and loud — I remained silent because of something else entirely. I fell silent… for silence. Or more accurately, the loss of a voice. My breath escaped in a seething huff, my piercing eyes watching, staring, and glaring through tinted lenses at the sadist playing adventurer who’d just narrowly escaped that very thing he so wantonly loved committing. Then I unholstered my pistol, glancing momentarily towards Thalmin who seemed fixated not on the book but on some coins that had similarly scattered — each minted with a different face, symbol, and heraldry — no two alike. Dragon’s Lair. Foot of the Hill. Local Time: 2200 Hours. Katiya I couldn’t see. I couldn’t hear. My whole body trembled as the golem sent the skies cracking with the sounds of terrible thunder. Then and only when the world had calmed did I see the beast of beasts, the Master of the Skies second only to the dragonkin… disappear. I… couldn’t describe it as anything else. There was, without a shadow of a doubt, nothing else with which to describe what had happened. A creature that should have been a nightmare for a fully outfitted adventuring party to dispatch, synonymous with an adventuring rank just beneath that of the draconics, had just vanished to an invisible thunder. I felt my knees wobble as the golem’s master moved forward to match its posture. Then and only then did the world go mad. Dragon’s Lair. Cave Entrance. Local Time: 2201 Hours. Thalmin Shock and awe. That was what Ignalius had attempted with his first strike, an attack whose shock served pure theatrics and whose awe was to be inflicted on allies, all to serve the vapidness of ego, not the utility of battle. Then came Emma’s rebuttal. A single strike that brought the army of cartmen and riders at the foot of the hill to their knees. Their blood-curdling screams now filled the air as all clutched desperately to their bleeding ears. The footmen fared no better, leaving only the patrolling mercenaries relatively unaffected by what was an air elemental’s attack in all but name. The latter even managed to regroup despite the veritable stampede of mounts and beasts having fallen to panic and instinct in the wake of Emma’s attack. I kept my silencing spells active, Emma’s clever battle cry serving not as a mechanism of ego but as a tactical warning as to the horrors she was to unleash. Indeed, we’d drilled for this very occasion — for a time in which our communication would be done solely through that manaless conch, as the world around me would be deafened for my own safety. Suffice it to say, that drilling was now being tested in a trial by fire. One that I couldn’t help but excitedly partake in. That familiar surge of hot blood pumped through my veins, my senses sharpening, and the world becoming ever clearer in what all Havenbrockians understood to be the thrill of the hunt. The likes of which… felt even more pronounced than it ever did in Havenbrock, let alone in the field of battle. My ears perked as my fur bristled with the richness of mana unheard of back home. I focused leftwards towards a shatorealmer who’d surprisingly survived this sonic attack by virtue of distance, luck, and perhaps sheer tenacity. And in a testament to Ignalius’ competence as commander, his left-attending swooped in, flying in spite of the pain painted across his visage, quickly grabbing the otherwise catatonic elf under both arms, poised for flight towards some unknown rendezvous point. “Emma, kill that guy.” I gestured to the evading party. “I’ll deal with the rest of his ilk.” I added under a growing and excitable breath as I turned towards the amassing force of patrolling mercenaries. Their 29-strong forces were grouping and regrouping, some uncertain, yet others clearly committed. As each of their eyes locked with my own, each committed to seeing this through to the end. Despite this, there remained one obvious outlier. A suspiciously absent right-attending — the pack leader of this sorry troupe — the long-eared, red-eyed, white-furred leporidian. But even without their party leader and even with the sheer power of Emma’s attacks, their cohesion still remained. Admirable. However, this sentiment was more sarcastic than genuine, as my eyes glanced at the coins scattered around Ignalius’ feet and precisely what each and every ill-gotten sovereign meant. ‘I’ve always wanted to face off against the enforcers of Nexian primacy.’ I thought to myself with a bloodthirsty smile. Dragon’s Lair. Foot of the Hill. Local Time: 2202 Hours. Salazan the Scaled We stood ready. 29-strong. My own party, 6 full-blooded Nexians. This wasn’t our first foray into untenable odds. In fact, this wasn’t our first fight with an uppity, self-assured adjacentrealmer. From Rontalis to Anurarealm and Aetheron, and even Havenbrockrealm itself… there was always the one, two, or even three or four ‘hero-types’ that believed themselves to be capable of defying the odds. Perhaps they got one or two good kills early on in their careers. Perhaps they may have bested many of the… less-than-capable Nexians who themselves underestimated the risk that was the adjacent wildlands. But we weren’t here to play around. And if my observations served me right, then it was clear we were evenly matched in our own right. The lupinor was very clearly relying on some nth-tier enchanted artifacts, just as we were. That golem was merely being his trump card, capable of extending his own reach… but not his own skills. “Take out the head, and the body shall fall.” I announced firmly, halberd at the ready, as we moved to charge on the lupinor’s position. “Highground can only go so far, mutt…” I heard a voice echoing behind us, resonating with my own sentiments. I craned back my head, looking at the two archer parties entrenched and ready to rain a full hail of arrows. I grinned, knowing well that at least in this battle, numbers would be the deciding factor. A second more following a flinch and a breath, I waited for the whip-crack chorus of ten tense strings to be let loose all at once. … TWANG! Dragon’s Lair. Foot of the Hill. Local Time: 2203 Hours. Katiya the Coward I hid behind a cart, peering over and watching in horror with bated breath at the hail of arrows expanding overhead. From ten to twenty to forty to eighty, the enchanted arrows multiplied mid-flight, blotting the small patch of sky above Dreadwolf’s position, threatening to end it all with a hail of sharp mana-steel-tipped fury. My ears flinched downwards as the death wail of falling missiles reached me, forcing me to look away in fear of what was assuredly a grisly sight. … “Heh.” A familiar voice sounded. “Heh… hahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHA!” It continued, rising in volume and deepening in pitch, as I opened my eyes to see… … …the impossible made manifest. That hail of arrows… never reached their mark. Instead they all hovered overhead the maniacal Dreadwolf, his hands raised tauntingly by his sides, palms spread open as if holding the invisible weight of these arrows looming ominously. “Good form.” He chewed out with a harsh growl before raising a single finger, twirling it and reorienting mana-steel to feather-tip, the sharp shafts now pointing towards their original shooters. “My turn.” He spoke through an excited breath, as that wall of death now whistled back at blistering speeds towards the bottom of the hill. Dragon’s Lair. Foot of the Hill. Local Time: 2204 Hours. Salazan the Scaled I stood frozen and unmoving, my heart skipping one, two, then three beats as I witnessed the impossible. The arrows— FWEEEEEEEEEEEE… —were now poised towards us. “SHIELDS!” I commanded, raising my own up high and feeling the disheartening thud thud PLINKS of arrows slamming against enchanted manasteel. None pierced– SHNK! “AGH!” Though the same couldn’t be said for the stray archer and skirmisher caught in the crossfire. With our leader still attempting his gambit, we did what we could in these circumstances. “FORWARD!!” I cried out, corralling another party to my side as we surged forwards towards the hill. I held no fear. Not when adorning my scales was the product of ten years of hard pay; layer upon layer upon layer of enchanted linens, hardened gambesons, and thrice-forged mana-steel. And within my hand was a weapon no fool could evade. I lifted my weapon, poised to strike alongside the rest of my berserkers, halberds ready and— ZAP! My whole body clenched, my vision momentarily fading and then exploding into a flurry of colors and blurry wisps. But I ultimately felt no pain, no real damage as a result of my enchantments. This brought a delighted smile to find home on my face, as I only had to endure the lightning, pushing through its paralysis and twitch-inducing properties by sheer force of will alone, before… I felt my armor tightening. Skin pinched under armor that felt two sizes too small, and my head ached from crushing forces I couldn’t make heads or tails of. Then I heard it. Screams from Elazen, Bellatri, and then— CRACK! I saw them fall, one by one, every comrade dropping like flies until finally… I met the lupinor’s gaze, seeing nothing but a focused, condensed rage. Then it all went black. Dragon’s Lair. Above the Forest Canopy. Local Time: 2204 Hours. Lieutenant Hofar the Soarer “Snap out of it, boss!” I yelled, crying, desperately pleading for the elf to come out of… whatever had gotten into him. “Boss, PLEASE! I can’t… I can’t! Fuck, my ears! Cast heal! Cast heal now, PLEASE!” I pleaded until my voice was hoarse, unable to make heads or tails of exactly where we could go, my whole world spinning. The act of flying only worsened the disorientation that wracked me. But that was all I could do right now — hover above the mess and fly… anywhere, just to get some distance, even if it was only vertical. “W-...wha… What’s…” The Captain finally began speaking, though his words were unintelligible, and his eyes looked absolutely glazed over. “Captain, I can’t… I can’t hold this for much longer. My head… it’s ringing. I can’t even hear my—” WHIIIIIIZZZZ! CRACK! I felt and heard something whizzing past, and thunder cracking in the distance— “AGH!” Something hit me, something… small, hard, sharp, and… it… CRACK! My eyes widened, craning my head to my wings as I saw holes torn into the membrane— SNAP! CRACK! More sounds, more noises. It felt as if I was being pelted with solid punches against my shoulders. … Pain surged through me not long after. But even worse than pain or disorientation… I felt control slipping from me. My wings no longer responded to my will. Nor did my hands and arms, as the forces of leypull now conspired to drag me back down without mercy. I desperately flailed like a fledgling in distress as I lost all sense of poise and any degree of discipline, and was now at the mercy of the ground. “U-ugh…” Ignalius came too once more as he pulled out a scroll, fumbling with it against the forces of the wind. I could see the treetops clearer now. We were too close to the ground, my eyes darting between my Captain and our nearing demise. He unfurled that scroll; inscriptions began to glisten and chime. Then— SHRK! A swath of black and green was the last thing I saw. Dragon’s Lair. Somewhere in the Forest. Local Time: 2207 Hours. Emma I waded through the woods. The EVI had calculated more or less the general location of where the pair would’ve landed. Landed… being a bit of a euphemism here. NVG and augmented sensors made short work of the dark, as I smashed tree bark and branches alike, all in order to reach the small clearing the shatorealmer had landed in. My body felt like it was running on autopilot, especially as I was met face-to-face with exactly what I’d wrought. The shatorealmer… was a bloodied mess. His face resembled what he’d done to the dragon with that gauntlet just a few moments ago. But in his arms, shielded from the impact by his own form… was the elf in question. A part of me hesitated. In fact, something at the back of my mind stopped my otherwise trained and poised trigger finger from taking the shot. This was despite having everything lined up, and despite the current objective, as was helpfully highlighted by the EVI — to dispatch all local hostiles. Ignalius, in this case, was highlighted in red, target reticles trained on his center mass and head. However, seeing him here completely unarmored and seemingly unarmed… this felt different, somehow antithetical to the man I'd just shot a few moments ago. He looked… pathetic and, most of all, completely helpless in this state. The wrath and simmering rage within from the literal murder of Togor wavered… if only slightly, at this sorry sight. More importantly, my mind went through protocol and rules of engagement, combing through the best possible course of action following the incapacitation of an enemy. … Hors de combat might actually apply here, especially given how he was well and truly wounded and unable to participate in combat. And so… I relented, the pistol still raised, but a dialogue otherwise opened. “LET ME SEE YOUR HANDS! DO NOT REACH FOR ANY WEAPONS. IF YOU DO, I WILL BE FORCED TO ENGAGE!” I shouted, rehashing the few lines drilled into me despite the adrenaline pumping through my system forcing most other superfluous thoughts out. The elf, surprisingly, complied. Or at least, he seemed to try to do so at first, feigning some difficulty in pushing the shatorealmer off of him, but otherwise preoccupied by something on his belt. “Speaking through a golem? Heh… That’s new. What? Are you too afraid to face me, Dreadwolf? Too scared to duel me one on one? Sparing my life for what? Capture? Like I’d ever allow animal filth like you to lay your hands on an actual pers—” “SURRENDER, OR I WILL BE FORCED TO—” Time, once again, slowed to a crawl. The elf, with a surprising degree of speed and dexterity, reached for a wand with clear and antagonistic intent. My world narrowed to the weight of the trigger behind my finger. I felt the break — that thin, crisp resistance — then… I pushed past the slack. BANG! The tension, the intent, that life behind the man’s eyes, and the animation of his body… just stopped. Everything simply stopped. His arms, his features, his torso, and everything else just… went limp. I felt my breath growing harder, my hands starting to tremble, all while a light-headed sense of… flightiness threatened to swallow me whole. I forced my eyes to dart through the HUD as a result, out of protocol and in a purposeful attempt to just… focus, grounding myself and forcing my mind to remain present. I ran through everything, every threat assessment, every diagnostic and SITREP, until finally… there was nothing else to address but the body that lay dead in front of me. Dragon’s Lair. Foot of the Hill. Local Time: 2212 Hours. Katiya the Coward They all fell like insects. Each warrior, every mercenary, each much, much more powerful and far more intimidating than I, just… ceased at the foot of Dreadwolf’s domain. From the mighty Salazan, who’d push me whenever he could, cutting in line, and even locking me in the trunk for amusement… to Ruroria the Honorable, who’d revel in any chance to pull up insects and crawlies on my bedrolls just for his amusement… to even Yvir the Terrible, who’d force me and others to haul impossibly heavy gear and equipment despite that not being our jobs… All of them, each and every one of these chosen ones, had just crumpled and died. That word being more literal in the case of some than others. By the end of these bloody few minutes of fighting, there was scarcely anyone left. Archers had fallen to their own arrows, some skirmishers to a mix of impossibly powerful magical attacks, and what was left was picked off by Dreadwolf with little to no mercy shown. However, I still counted two warriors who stood defiantly at the cusp of Dreadwolf’s precipice. And beyond that, there existed the wild card that was Commander Ulther. There had to be a reason for his sudden disappearance. There had to be something that sly rabbit was— My eyes widened as I saw a shadow creeping behind Dreadwolf, just as he was about to face the two minotaur skirmishers in front of him. Dreadwolf raised his blade, poised for a frontal assault, completely unaware of the dangers behind him. Something within me broke at that moment, as if I’d finally pushed through a door that’d previously been locked. Then, and only then, did I find my voice. And I screamed. “DREADWOLF, BEHIND YOU!” However, before he could even react, Ulther materialized. His enchanted blades poised for the lupinor’s back… only to have the attack halted at the last second by bands of kelp restraining his arms in place. The lupinor grinned at the development, shooting me a bloodied smile from a distance as he moved to reposition himself, now fully focused on the two minotaurs in front of him. “We do this as warriors!” He bellowed before craning his head back towards Ulther. “Not as cowards.” He paused, taking a moment to glare at the commander. “I will deal with you later. Now…” He let out a satisfied breath, turning towards the minotaurs. “Shall we continue?” The minotaur twins turned to one another, their features momentarily colored by abject fear. Though despite that, motivated by whatever loyalty they held to the Captain, they surged forwards anyways. Blades clashed as the lupinor managed to parry and push back against the physically superior opponents that towered over him. Harsh CLANGS and sharp TINKS echoed throughout the forest, as despite their best efforts, the lupinor always seemed to be one step ahead. Finally, and seemingly out of frustration, the twins SLAMMED their warhammers on the ground where the lupinor stood… only for the wolf to leap upwards, jumping, and landing on each of their backs. Two stabs, each through the gaps in their armor, were all it took to take them down, as they fell unceremoniously down on the rocky hillside, tumbling down without much fanfare. Following this, did Dreadwolf turn back slowly, methodically, and menacingly towards the leporidian still bound in the Kelpie’s wet seaweed embrace. “You ready, turncoat?” Dreadwolf spoke through a bloodthirsty growl. “You, lupinor, should understand by now… that there is no shame, but only glory, in embracing the winning side.” He countered, before just as quickly nodding. And with Dreadwolf’s command, the kelpie released Ulther from its vice grip. No sooner than that happened did the rabbit leap upwards, far, far above Dreadwolf, as a hail of knives and throwing stars peppered the rocky surface beneath him. Dreadwolf, in keeping to some duelist’s honor, actually dodged these attacks, refusing to actively use his magics from earlier to simply return the offending objects to their sender. What objects he couldn’t dodge merely CLINKED off of his armor, barely even scratching it, and most certainly not denting it either. After seemingly exhausting an armory’s worth of throwing blades, the rabbit dived down, holding his signature thin blade poised for Dreadwolf’s head. Yet despite this all-in assault— CLANG!!!!!! —Dreadwolf somehow still managed to parry it. The leporidian pushed back and landed across from the lupinor, each now pacing around the other, trying to outmaneuver with blades in hand and eyes reading one another. But unlike the initial assaults, it was Dreadwolf who struck first. His blade crashed hard against the leporidian’s, nearly shattering it and staggering the commander for a single split second. That opening was all it took for the lupinor to seize the initiative, because before the rabbit could recover, Dreadwolf had taken advantage of his momentum. He flicked his wrist, letting the blade glide down the opposing edge in one smooth motion, following its length until the tip cleared the opposing rabbit’s guard. Then— SHNK! “AUGH…” … It was all over in a blink of an eye. The blade pierced through the commander’s armor like a pointed pick through hard shell. The man soon fell limp, Dreadwolf’s face barely inches apart as the life from the commander’s eyes faded. A moment of silence dawned, interrupted only by some whispers from Dreadwolf, and a slow but cautious lowering of the commander’s body to the ground, as if out of some respect. The whole thing felt far too fast, much too… quick for a duel. But ironically, that was what Ulther had once championed to many of his opponents. There’s a difference between fighting and showmanship. If your fight starts to look like something out of a noble’s ball, then either something very wrong is happening, or you aren’t even fighting to begin with. An uneasy silence eventually descended on the battlefield following Ulther’s death. Indeed, I saw no movement, no attempts at anything else, other than the cries and whimpers from the riders, carters, and footmen that were in varying states of distress down at the foot of the hill. “Alright.” Dreadwolf announced, breaking the silence, and garnering the attention of all present. “Anyone else?” He beckoned, gesturing at the devastation left in his wake. Murmurs and cries of surrender came shortly thereafter. What few ranks remained of our troupe dropped their blades, bucklers, and hatchets from their persons. “Good. Now I want to make something very clear.” Dreadwolf began as he made his way down from the outcropping. “Each and every one of you…” He paused as sweat began running down the brows of all present. “... can leave.” A collective wave of confusion echoed throughout the night, as footmen and riders alike began snapping their heads to one another, all in varying states of disbelief. “But understand one very important thing. Should a word of the night’s events leave this forest, I will personally and without hesitation, hunt each and every one of you down.” He began marching towards them, feet stomping hard against the rock. “There will be no mercy, no quarter given, and no hesitation, as righteous retribution is called upon each of your souls.” His words caused even the most seasoned of carters present to shiver in place. “Should suspicions be raised, then look only to the dragon.” He added sternly before ending up in front of the lead carter. “Do I make myself clear?” “Y-yes, S-Ser Dreadwolf!” “What was that?” He gestured towards his ear. “I don’t think I quite caught that.” “YES, SER DREADWOLF!” “LOUDER, ALL OF YOU!” “YES, SER DREADWOLF!” “Good.” The lupinor nodded, crossing his arms in the process. “You may all leave.” Hurried footsteps of horrified masses were quick to mount up, the clopping of steeds and the creaking of carts erupting shortly thereafter. I was too stunned to even hitch a ride in the carriage I hid behind as it too sped off and I soon found myself left behind by the retreating ranks. “Ah. Katiya. Are you hurt?” Dragon’s Lair. Foot of the Hill. Local Time: 2225 Hours. Emma I returned to what could only be described as a massacre. My whole body felt like it was running on autopilot, even as I found Thalmin in the mess, tending to a passed-out Katiya. “Thalmin?” I asked, gesturing to the baxi. “Did you—” “Oh, ancestors no, Emma! She seemed to have passed out when I addressed her. Ancestors know why. I even offered a friendly smile!” He explained, to which I could only let out a long sigh, gesturing at his armor. “The blood might have something to do with that.” “Eh, and what’s a bit of blood to an adventurer? Her reaction just proves she’s not meant for this life.” “I guess…” I managed out dourly, as my mood and tone were quick to be picked up by the lupinor. “What’s wrong, Emma? You aren’t injured, are you?” “No, no. I’m fine.” “Then is it Ignalius? Were you unable to pursue him?” “No, he’s…” I paused, my whole body clenching at the sight of it all. “He’s dead. Along with that shatorealmer.” “Ah! Good! That’s good then!” Thalmin beamed excitedly. “So what seems to be the problem, Emma? We have the shards, we have your lost ‘drone,’ and we’ve dispatched the enemy! All should be well, yes?” “Yeah… but I…” I trailed off into an uneasy silence, causing Thalmin’s features to sharply shift into something less boisterous and more reserved. “I see.” He lowered his voice. “Am I to assume that this is your first kill? Aside from the null of course. Creatures like that are more like hunting animals than people, after all.” I blinked rapidly, my hand reaching for my shoulder as I slowly nodded. “Yeah.” Was my only response. “It is.” “Then I must apologize for my… flippancy in light of everything you see. I understand how difficult it must be, and to be met with such an attitude following your first blood must be jarring.” He spoke with a degree of compassion in his voice, clearing his throat before moving on. “If you feel the need to discuss things, I am more than willing to do so at your own pace, Emma.” “Thanks, Thalmin.” I managed out after a short pause, gripping my shoulder tighter as I did so. “Now… we might need to discuss exactly how we are to move on from here. But in order to maintain our cover, might I suggest we set up an altar with these bodies as an offering to—” “L I TT-LE… B-BEEINGS. CC-COME TO ME-EEET?” A voice erupted from the dense foliage, prompting the both of us to turn, weapons raised, to meet a mangled shatorealmer. Its arms were limp but crooked, and its head hung low, unsupported and ungainly like some twisted marionette. But from behind it, triggering EVI’s proximity sensors, was a large draconic silhouette, with purple glowing eyes slitted and staring right at the both of us. NMS Corvette Expedition 19 In 3 HOURS - Full Guide
https://preview.redd.it/wrwdjc9v71nf1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=f0796c8e7c11a0327dbb1b9498e94c7a3c07d2c5 Attention: This is NOT a Redux guide! The latest and fully optimised Redux guide can be found here: NMS Corvette Redux Expedition 19 In 2 HOURS - Full Guide So, the brand-new Corvette expedition for No Man's Sky is finally here, featuring awesome Corvette parts, an incredible set of trails, and other exciting rewards. But, the expedition is time limited and may be quite tedious, so I’ve prepared a guide to help you complete it in under 3 hours—fast and efficient! This is Aiming4Gaming, and today we're aiming for efficient gaming! TL;DR I know that some people prefer watching videos over reading text guides. If you're one of them, here's a video version of this guide where I explain each step in action. If you prefer text guides, it's right below! How to start expedition To start the expedition, you have two options: You can start a new game in Expedition mode Or you can summon the Space Anomaly from any existing save and start the expedition from expedition terminal. The second option is better, as you can bring resources and technologies with you, or even bring a copy of your starship or multitool, which greatly speeds up expedition progress! Also, if you start the expedition from your main save, you'll be able to transfer back most of the items you obtain during the expedition. Preparation (Optional) First of all, if you're a seasonal player, you can make the run much easier by bringing some resources with you! This time you can bring: 150 Silver 270 Gold 3 Warp Cells Everything you bring will be available at the same terminal within the expedition! To retrive items, you must warp once - this will unlock the space anomaly within the expedition! In other words, the initial mining is inevitable! You can also buy most of these resources from the space station terminals and traders if you want to speed things up. I’ll be starting from scratch in this guide to simulate a new player experience. Notable things during expedition Keep in mind these things: Don't forget to claim rewards for completed milestones, as some of them contain plans for the next milestones. Use the refiner if you need to process anything. And don't install unnecessary modules you get from milestones as they can be sold for easy nanites instead! If you install a module, its cost reduces to 16, we don't want this to happen! The guide Once you start the expedition, mine the basic set of resources, including at least 50 ferrite dust, 30 oxygen, 40 silicate powder, 60 copper, and around 300 carbon. Then reach your starship, enter the cockpit, receive the communication, and retrieve the orbital uplink blueprint. Now build a portable refiner and process copper into chromatic metal. Then craft an orbital uplink and activate it to teleport to the nearest space station and also complete the "Link to the Stars" milestone. Collect the reward, then visit the nearest corvette workshop. Here you must build a basic corvette consisting of several modules listed at the top right of the screen. Finalize the corvette and swap it with your current starship. Get inside your starship, open the build menu, and place a mission radar to complete "Ship Architecture." From this milestone, you'll get a lot of modules—install all of them! Now visit the "Cintiusi Ochi" planet with both "salvageable scrap" and "dissonance detected" traits. Hover just above the surface, then open the starship menu. Select Autopilot Management → Maintain Current Flightpath. This will put you in the cockpit while your ship keeps flying on its own. Now, use the scanner to locate buried salvage containers! Mark the first one, regain control, and blast it with your ship’s weapons to get them. Repeat until you get 5 corvette modules and complete "Salvaging." Meanwhile, flying with autopilot for 30 seconds will also complete "Cruising." Install the cyclotron ballista and Dyson Pump. While you're on this planet, fight corrupt sentinels until you destroy 8 of them. You can save at your ship after that and reload to clear the sentinel threat or complete 5 waves. Either way, you'll finish "Undying Horde." Documenting 3 animals on this planet will also complete "Wild Things." This will reward you with an echo locator you must use. Follow the marked location to find a settlement, where you must solve a simple riddle: put three glyphs representing numbers from the equation results, then deactivate the multitool seal. Claim the multitool from the stand and you'll complete "Reclaimed Weaponry." Lastly, pick up any gravitino ball, quickly board your starship, go to space, and destroy 3 interceptors to complete "Anarchy." Then destroy 40 asteroids to complete "Heavyweight." Exit your starship in open space, select the "Stardiving" milestone, and fly toward the ship reactor until the counter reaches 60 seconds to complete it. Then use the jetpack to fly around for 30 seconds to also complete "Extravehicular." Meanwhile, flying 100,000 units without the pulse engine will complete "Flightpath." The "Undying Horde" milestone rewards you with units and nanites. Use them to buy some chromatic metal from traders and repair your hyperdrive engine. Then visit the technology merchant, sell unneeded modules, and buy both hyperdrive modules he has. Install them—one in the hypercharged slot if possible. Add some modules to your corvette if you wish. Select the "Resist: 1" milestone, then warp to the marked system to complete "Can't Take the Sky." At this point, you can finally summon the Space Anomaly and retrieve all the items you transferred from your main save at the expedition terminal. Now visit the local space station, then find its core on the second floor and interact with it to complete "Resist: 1." Buy 150 silver and 270 gold if you haven't brought them from your main save. Select the "Resist: 2" milestone, then warp to the marked system, visit the local space station, and interact with its core on the second floor to complete it. Build 4 growing beds inside your starship. Add 3 hull modules to your corvette to complete "Advance: Expand." You will learn how to craft seeds and also get a pre-packaged hazmat gauntlet you must install. Buy all the uranium from the station trade terminal, then visit the "Enbridge Beta" irradiated planet in this system. Gather at least 400 gamma root from Gamma Weed plants, then plant 8 Gamma Weed plants in the growing beds inside your starship. Next visit the "Afte X" humid planet and land there to complete "Grounded." Install the fishing rig module for later. Thoughts on this quote for above ground pool buried 2 feet underground

Anyone with an unrepairable inground pool ever dropped or considered dropping an above ground pool into the old one?
Thirty year old 16x36 vinyl inground pool. Built in 1997. Deep end was concreted w/vinyl over the concrete in 2012 ( cost as much as installing pool the first time) due to an underground spring on side wall near the bottom.Over $40000 total in build and repairs. Fast forward to 2022 wall failing again. Became unusable in 2023 due to leaks. Lost our 34yr old son unexpectedly last year and was focused on taking care of his matters. In early spring this year I began thinking of ways to save the pool. Every contractor I spoke with said it would be $20-30k to repair adding gravel/sump pump, drain etc Fiberglass nearly as costly as repairs. Not wanting to lose my little backyard oasis and I thought…why couldn’t I simply add gravel and sand layers and level up with shallow end. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Anyone else?? We started this on Monday..😅 submitted by /u/Wooden_Reference_375 to r/pools [link] [comments]

My above ground pool journey
This all started last year when I had some trees felled. A large amount of sawdust got into the pool and the algae began. The particles were too small and vacuum and sand filters just let the sawdust through. I tried vacuums, chemicals, changed filter sand but nothing got the green hue out of the water. At the end of the season, I decided to start from scratch this year. So, when I pulled the cover off, I had dark green sludge everywhere. It's a 16x32 intex, so with just a hose siphon it took 2+ days to drain. From there, around 9 hours of powerwashing, using a sump pump, and a plastic shovel to remove the heavier stuff and I'm back to clean again! Should be ready to go for 4th of July weekend. submitted by /u/wwhacked to r/powerwashingporn [link] [comments]

Sewer Spelunker Finds Herself in Deep Shit, Gets Pissy When Concerned Redditors Insist She See a Doctor
Atlantian takes a quick dip in a pool of shit and turns to fellow urban explorers at r/Urbex to figure out what to do about it. They advise immediate medical treatment and safety precautions for future excursions, which really gets under her skin. OP Hey friends, few questions: I was exploring a huge storm drain system that runs under the interstate (ATL) with a friend in a spot I frequent. I stepped into what I thought was a shallow puddle at the entrance of a tunnel and 100% disappeared into a pool of shit water. I dragged myself out and my friend tried to help me clean my face off in some (less) shitty water but it was like I was covered in Crisco. I think I’ll have a very mild PTSD from this experience. has this ever happened to anyone else lol I’m trying to figure out if I should ask a friend for some antibiotics? I kept my mouth and eyes closed thank god but still had shit all over my face. Like am i 100% gonna get pink eye 👁️ my throat burns like fuck. Probably from the ammonia. Waders won’t always cut it, guys. Water is a fucking mirage. also, anyone know why was it like being covered in Crisco, even after washing off. I’m scared to know I took a 30 minute shower with Soft Scrub bleach gel and Dawn dish soap. Obviously don’t do this but it was an emergency. I’m experienced and careful so please don’t come for me. I didn’t fall I just misjudged the depth of the water. anyone else love drains and can educate me more privately on wastewater systems?! 🖤 An expert in the field weighs in: MyGoddamnFeet So hey, long wall of text incoming. Sorry. I work as a water/wastewater engineer and deal with some of this on the daily. first and most importantly. Go get your self checked out at a doc asap, tell em you fell into wastewater completely, including above your eyes and in your mouth. you can get all sorts of bugs from contact with waste, from covid, hepatis A & C, salmonella, giardia, cholera, to name a few. I got sprayed with wastewater (er, well return activated sludge with is thickened wastewater) at work when grabbing a sample of the RAS pump. That was incredibly disgusting and i had all sorts of test done, fortunately nothing was wrong, but still worth checking. second. Toss the clothes, you'll never get the smell out. for some more info: Atlanta (and a lot of the US) uses combined sanitary sewers. raw water (storm water & ground water) and wastewater (sewer, industrial waste*, pretty much anything that gets flushed or goes down a drain) are in the same line to the wastewater treatment. I would recommend seeing if you can get a tour of your local wwtp, they can be pretty cool. the F. Wayne Hill Water Resource Center treats ~60 Million Gallons daily (MGD), not the biggest but still pretty impressive. The plants I'm regularly at are 130-150 MGD, and the largest in the us is in New York treating 2 Billion gallons Daily (2 BGD!!!!) *industrial waste is generally treated before being allowed into a wastewater system to remove some of the nastier items As for why it felt like Crisco, its because of the fats in wastewater. Fats, oil, and Grease (FOG) is a pretty big deal in the wastewater industry. as they aren't water soluble, they tend to clump together via a process called saponification (we use this process of making soap and lye as well) and if let to their own, or if velocity is to low, the FOGs can clump together and form blockages in the sewers. Pleasantly known as fatbergs. When you fell in, the fog stuck to you, creating that feeling. coat your self in a layer of soap, or bacon fat and you'll feel the same way. I would recommend bringing a depth gauge, should you ever fell like trying this again. OP is appreciative of the advice, but wonders if she can just drink a lot of water in lieu of seeing a doctor: OP Fuck dude this was so helpful. I had previously done enough research to understand the sewers were combined but did not truly understand what that meant or where or where not exactly what water was what. The water filling the tunnel right next to where I fell in was at least not poopy so I washed my face off and then stopped again at this even clearer pool on the way out and washed off again. It’s like I fell into the worst possible area. I totally thought it was the fat in peoples shit I was so afraid that’s what it was. I stripped down to my sports bra and washed my hair out in the “clean water” and that’s where most of the shit was essentially. It was a very very short walk home (same street) once we got out and I stripped down immediately and did the bleach and dawn repeatedly. Trashed the clothes and everything else already. My hiking boots are outside. When I got out of the shower I saw what looked like an onion peel among the detritus in my pants. My phone somehow survived. It’s been detailed with alcohol and threw the case out. Am I good to like drink a shit ton of water and just wait to see if I have any symptoms? I have a hell of an immune system. I’m also sorry you got sprayed. Also fascinated by what you do please DM me if you want to talk more I have pics of things I have questions about from down there! Waste water professionals and more experienced urban explorers chastise her for being under-prepared, over-confident, and reckless: Crispy_Potato_Chip look at r/Draining you should never go in a combined sewer. Stormwater only. You are lucky you didn't die. people die from sewer gasses all the time MyGoddamnFeet oh yeah. also should have had another item to get if really wanting to go into these areas for some reason. An H2S (hydrogen sulfide) monitor, or a 4-gas monitor (H2S, CO, O2, and LEL). they are relatively inexpensive OP I do use a half face respirator with the replaceable organic vapor filters FireFluffer Respirators won’t do shit if there’s not enough oxygen in the environment. It also won’t do anything for CO or H2S. Trust me, I’m a hazmat guy. If you’re going into mixed use drainage, you need a monitor, not a respirator. This is why we bring our own air into confined space environments. OP I’m never going back in 😭 FungiStudent You are actually lucky to have survived. However, the moment of clarity, humbleness, and appreciation is fleeting: Chivo6064 Do you have insurance? You fell into shit and you want to wait it out instead of follow the advice of someone that is educated in this? Are you fr? If you don’t have insurance I understand but damn. OP Waited it out and got antibiotics and doc not concerned so don’t be so certain of your medical advice if you’re not literally a doctor. I’m not trying to be rude but people are so sure of their very bold statements in this world Blindly stepping into a pool of shit-water was just a freak accident: thenewmando You might want to get checked out by a doctor. Brain eating ameba are a thing OP Like in this scenario? I thought of that but also thought all that “still water” shit on tiktok was fake/overblown Admirable-Tax-43 It's defiantly overblown just don't ingest or wade through the water without protection OP I would never forreal this was a freak accident/wild failure of depth perception lol OP got sewer water up her nose and her throat is on fire, but everybody needs to just chill about it already! SinCityLowRoller Yeah haha people always joke about flesh eating bacteria entering the pee-pee hole however it's no joke it can happen. OP does it burn when you pee? OP My throat burns. But my eyes and mouth were closed but some water def went up my nose then mrsmaug GO TO THE HOSPITAL. now!! You have no idea what sort of dangerous pathogens and diseases you might have just come into contact with because of this. DO NOT WAIT! OP Guys chillll for real I went to the doc and got some antibiotics. If they ain’t worried, I ain’t worried about comments like this but I do appreciate the concern mrsmaug The reason we all are on your ass is because you weren’t taking anything we said seriously. Good to hear you finally did, this is not something to ever brush off and if you contracted something deadly you may have died for lack of medical care, so no we aren’t gonna chill 😂 OP I did take it seriously we all just have different opinions and rates of worry (maybe it’s stupidity or apathy) idk A redditor thinks some mouthwash might help: SinCityLowRoller Dang bro! Mouthwash several times I hope? How long ago did you fall in? I'd say if you don't have a fever, nausea, or cold sweats in the next 48 hours you're fine OP I jumped right the fuck out of there I was probably in there for less than 10 seconds I brushed my teeth with a lil bleach too lmao and have gargled lots of water and drinking lots. I didn’t ingest any water but I’m assuming a small amount went up my nose but not much But non-expert advice is only welcome when it tells her what she wants to hear. Besides, this coulda happened to anyone! pede_69420 As a student biologist, PLEASE go to a hospital. Ik u got that shit in ur nose too. You have tons of membranes around your body where bacteria OR WORSE!!!! could’ve gotten in. At least a quick clinic! Please!!!! OP I’ll listen once ur no longer a student heh 😉 stain_XTRA that’s stupid sounding OP I’m just kiddding and I’m gonna take you with a grain of salt if you’re being alarmist. I’ll take the wastewater guy’s word for it. stain_XTRA alarmist!? you walked into dirty fetid stank water and they told you the same exact thing and to talk about being experienced but winged it stepping into a random puddle (just a bit of common sense would’ve prevented that) is crazy work homie, sounds like the worm is already chewing on your frontal lobe OP Bruh you weren’t there don’t pretend like it couldn’t have happened to you jfc stain_XTRA oh and you weren’t kidding, you were projecting lack of experience on someone else so it’s not on you and to someone trying to help you out nonetheless xD i don’t need to pretend, i wouldn’t say fuck it to any puddle i can’t see the bottom of dummy xD OP Ok ok u clearly feel passionately about my personal choices but u can hop off thx for sharing ur opinion stain_XTRA YOU POSTED IT ONLINE FOOL who gotta tell you this is a public space hhhooooollllyyyyyyy shit OP 🩷☮️ Everybody just chill! She feels fine and she got some antibiotics! Sharp_BoyChili Its kinda funny that everbody is telling @op to go to the doc immediatly, but she just ignores it and seeks some sortiert of other options. Theres no point in waiting, just go OP I’m actually fine and picking up antibiotics from the pharmacy rn and SO happy I didn’t freak out and end up with an ER bill. Y’all are clearly not doctors SMH. She “went to the doctor,” so everybody can just relax: OP Update: I went to the doc and they gave me some wide-spectrum antibiotics. They’re not concerned. So neither should you be but I do appreciate the worry. 💓 stay safe out there kids! But there’s a non-zero chance that the “doctor visit” was more of a consult and Rx from a nurse friend: Lawson51 Big oof. I'm getting 2nd hand ick from reading this and seeing you look all grimy in that pic. Aside from what others have suggested regarding antibiotics/seeing a doctor to run some basic tests, I would likely make sure to load up on multivitamins/vitamin C supplements, a healthy food diet, and a full 8 hours of sleep for the next couple of weeks at least. Your immune system will thank you. OP Yes I have a dope immune system so fingers crossed and have Vit C and other supps. My nurse friend told me to drink hella water and I might get pink eye but I’m fine (Edited out a misattributed quote) submitted by /u/inevitable-typo to r/SubredditDrama [link] [comments]

Not really a cat person. HOW do I gently stop neighbor's cat from bringing me dead things?
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/spicedpumpkins Not really a cat person. HOW do I gently stop neighbor's cat from bringing me dead things? Originally posted to r/cats Thanks to u/La_Dame_Va_Se_Facher & u/soayherder for suggesting this BoRU Original Post Sept 11, 2024 I've got a pretty large property and don't mind the neighbor's cat hanging out chasing mice and other things but it's constantly walking right up to me and brining me dead things when I'm outside. I don't feed the cat and barely pay any attention to it except when it rubs up against me and purrs. I'll give it a quick pat and move on to whatever I was doing, gardening, etc. Otherwise I basically ignore it. Anyways, the frequency of dead things plopped at my feet has gotten to almost every day. I don't want to be mean and scare it or anything, it's welcomed to relax or prowl the yard but it's a looooooong walk from one end of the yard to my trashcans to dispose of the things it brings and it's getting old really fast. Update 1 Sept 12, 2024 In a nutshell, the neighbor's cat keeps bringing me dead things almost daily. I don't hate cats, but cats are just not my jam (sorry sub, no offense). If cats are around cool, no big deal. I'm an animal lover. I have no issues with the cat itself. It's welcomed in my yard to do as it pleases and I practically ignore it unless it goes out of its way to come up to me. I'll give it a quick pat or scritch and move on to the many things I have to do in my yard. I forgot to mention the actual issue is not that it brings me dead things, but the dead things it has brought me and I didn't find right away, attract ants. Where I'm at, ants can pop up out of nowhere in the hundreds or more if dead things are not disposed of quickly. This summer I've been at war with ants and they are such a pain to deal with especially if they're swarming the dead things left by the cat. Then lugging the dead thing waaaaay over to the trash cans is also a huge pain. I've been working hard to get the yard landscaped the way I want it. I've planted specific flowers to attract birds, butterflies, small wild life. It's gotten close to looking like a little sanctuary. It requires a ton of maintenance as I clean daily any seeds not eaten in the feeders, mowing, trimming, etc. The cat walking around in the yard is no issue for me as it seems not to bother any of the small wild life except for mice and seems to enjoy the yard vs its owner's yard for some reason. It's an older cat and I don't think it's right to spray it with a water bottle or try to scare it or be mean to it as some suggested here. That's just not an option for me. I called my vet to get their advice and he said to soak cotton balls 1:1 with food grade vinegar and water and lightly dab my wrists, neck, ankles, shoes, etc. The vet said the vinegar is totally safe for the cat but cats don't like the vinegar and will associate the scent with me and in theory should stop approaching me and will likely give up trying to give me dead things. The vet said it might be a good idea to actually lure the cat to me with a simple treat to make sure it approaches me, smell me, dislike it and leave. So one quick stop at the market for the vinegar, cotton balls, cat treats and dabbing myself all over like my vet advised and I'm good to go. VOILA! PROBLEM SOLVED right? Nope. 1) My beloved dog wouldn't even come up to me the entire rest of the day 2) My wife said I stunk and demanded I shower. I told her I still had a lot of chores outside in the yard and she said I can't step into the house until I showered. I told her I would shower after my chores. 3) The cat showed up as usual and brought me another dead thing (partial grasshopper this time) and I did what the vet said and gave it the cat treat. It not only approached me and didn't flinch at all at my smell, but went crazy purring and rubbing up against me after I gave it the treat. Like purring so hard I could feel the reverberations when it rubbed against my pant leg. Unusually, the damn cat followed me around most of the day and kept interfering with what I was doing, pruning, sweeping, etc. Running in front of me while I'm carrying things to the wheelbarrow, zipping between my legs, laying down right where I'm about to trim. I'd gently move him and the little bastard kept coming back. I'd make sure I'd hold out my wrists for it to smell and that did jack shit. Cat didn't even care or seem to notice the vinegar smell. 4) I did a lot of work in the yard but still had more to do so I was going to go take a quick nap on the couch and then get back to the yard but my wife wouldn't have any of it and kicked me out. She told me to go nap near the pool in the nice shaded area I had set up with lawn furniture and a hammock. Didn't want to argue with the boss so I went to the hammock. Took a nice nap only to wake up to find the fucking cat sleeping on my chest purring, ass right in my face. I gently let it down on the ground so I could get back to my yard work and right there under the hammock another dead thing the cat left for me....covered in hundreds of ants. FML. I give up. Update 2 Sept 22, 2024 First of all I'd like to thank everyone who gave sincere well meaning advice here as when I say I'm not a cat person, I really mean I'm not a cat person. I don't dislike cats but I've always grown up with dogs and other than bumping into the occasional cat in the periphery, I have almost no knowledge other than the basic guy off the street. There seemed to be some conflicting advice in the thread: ignore the cat, pick up the cat constantly, feed that cat, don't feed the cat, instead of vinegar try citrus, no try peppermint instead of citrus, eat in front of the cat, etc. To answer a couple of questions from the thread. Maybe the cat belonged to the previous owner of the house and has hung around. Nope. I've owned the property for over 20 years. I had the former dilapidated house demolished and over the decades slowly added the main house, 2 small guest houses, the pool house, etc. The cat literally showed up on the day the new neighbor below the hill moved with their stuff. I simply connected the dots. Are there any poisonous plants in my landscaped yard. To my knowledge NO. I have a dog who I would take a bullet for and when I hired the landscape architect and arborist, I made sure to request nothing would be planted that would harm my dog or any of the local wildlife but at the same time I wanted to attract butterflies, hummingbirds, etc. For this same reason, despite it being a really easy solution to my ginormous ant problem, I refuse to use chemicals / pesticides in the yard. TRIAL AND ERROR...advice from the thread that worked or didn't work. CITRUS AND PEPPERMINT: First of all I wasn't going to make the same mistake again of putting on a scent that would upset my dog. The day I tried the vinegar my dog tried to avoid me all day and would only begrudgingly come to me when I insisted and called him over. The only citrus I had around was some strong citrus soap smell from one of my wife's fancy soaps she has all over the house. Tried it around the cat, nothing. Didn't deter the cat at all. I didn't try peppermint because I don't like the smell of peppermint myself. IGNORE THE CAT COMPLETELY: Impossible. The damn cat refuses to be ignored. The more I ignored it the MORE it would walk in my path, lay down exactly where I'm working in the yard, follow me constantly. EAT IN FRONT OF THE CAT BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE DO I FEED THE CAT: Didn't work. The cat would just stare at me and bob its head back and forth intently watching whatever I was eating then bob its eyes to my mouth and just watch me chew. Still brought me dead things. I was strong. Held my ground. I didn't feed the cat even though I'm pretty sure it was asking for a bite of whatever I was eating at the time. "LOVE BOMB" the cat, constantly pick it up. Go over the top to pay attention to it. To the people who gave this piece of "advice", if you were trying to help, then thank you. If you were trolling, then congratulations, you got me good. Not only did smothering the cat with affection and constantly picking it up not work, it backfired. HARD. The cat became obnoxiously clingy and would demand I pick it up and give scritches constantly interrupting what I'm doing. Sometimes it won't stop meowing incessantly until I do a quick pick up and scritch. Put it back down only to have it do the same thing less than an hour later. Man, I'm busy, I don't have time for this. So...upto this point basically NOTHING worked. After trying some of the thread's advice? Significantly worse. Cat still came around every day. Every day still brought me dead things. Followed me everywhere but now every now and then I gotta pick it up to rub its tummy / give it a scritch to hit the reset button so it would stop meowing at me. It incessantly follows me. There was only one single day where I didn't see the cat, or so I thought. I left really early in the morning to go pick up things I needed from home depot, drop by my local nursery to pick up their good "secret sauce" compost, basically run a bunch of errands. Came back in the afternoon and went about my chores in the yard and as the hours passed it hit me...NO CAT. Not a peep, nothing trying to trip me as I carry things with the wheelbarrow, no demands for a pick up scritch and release. NOTHING. I just shrugged my shoulders at my good fortune of finally working in peace. It was getting late and I was hungry and since I told my wife I was running errands, I guess she assumed I would pick up something to eat out and she didn't pack anything for me. Headed back to the house and as I was opening the kitchen sliding door, there sleeping in my wife's lap as she's petting it and watching tv is the god damn cat. OH HELLLLLLLL NAAAAAAAAW! My wife looked up and smiled at me then quickly frowned and asked "What's wrong?". I said, "What do you mean?" She said, when you came in your jaw dropped and you mouthed, "SON OF A BITCH". Me: "WHY would you let that cat in the house?!!!" Wife: "Why wouldn't I? Poor thing was outside rubbing up the the glass door and meowing bloody murder. It was obviously hungry and thirsty." Me: "Oh my god. You didn't feed the cat did you?" Wife: "Of course I did! You think I'm going to let a helpless animal go hungry or be thirsty at my door?" I thought I was going to have an aneurysm. All I could think about was the movie Gremlins when you were firmly warned never to feed the thing past midnight or else you're fucked. Now my wife's done it. She's fed the damn cat. I'm fucked. Me: "THIS is the little bastard that has been giving me headaches with the ants for weeks by bringing me dead things" Wife: "What are you talking about? It just showed up today." ME: HOLY.SHIT. I just realized all this time, I don't think I actually ever directly mentioned the cat to my wife. I have a few acres of land and the land is nicely landscaped and partitioned with very tall trees as to "break up the line of sight" as the landscape architect said. To give a sense of walking in a manicured forest and not knowing what is around the corners until you turn and see the different kinds of landscapes on the property. I've been working on the far end of the property and that's where the cat shows up. She never saw the cat until today. ME: "Wait a minute. That day I came in with the vinegar smell and you wouldn't let me in the house. That's because I was trying make the cat keep away from me!" EXACTLY at this point the cat woke up and saw me. Hopped off my wife's lap and started purring loud like a motor boat and rubbing hard against my legs. Wife: "That's why? Oh my god. Why didn't you ask Kevin for advice before trying something that stupid?" Kevin is our vet, I've known him, his wife and kids for years. He comes over every now and then and we play videogames in my man cave or to shoot pool while the wives are doing who knows what. ME: "It was Kevin who told me to do the vinegar!" My wife literally rolled her eyes. Wife: "I can't believe you two are doctors. (I'm a retired anesthesiologist). That was some dumb advice." Me: "I know. It didn't work at all. So I went to to an internet forum and asked for advice" My wife literally laughed in my face. Wife: "You asked complete strangers on the internet for advice? And how did that work out for you?" Me: "Not so good. Anyways I'm going to take care of this right now and take the cat back to its owners. It belongs to the new family who moved in down the hill." I gently grabbed the little bastard who was all happy and smug, hopped in the truck and rang the neighbor's doorbell. The day after they moved in my wife and I introduced ourselves and gave them a small gift card to home depot and some of my wife's really good home made brownies. Other than that, I haven't talked to them. The wife answered the door and the husband was sitting at their table in the back and waved to me. I reintroduced myself while holding their cat and told them I'm brining it back as it's been coming over to my yard every day. I was about to follow another thread suggestion and ask them if they could please consider putting a bell and collar on their cat so it would have a hard time catching things and bringing their corpses to me when the wife said, "That's not our cat. We don't have a cat." All the air left my lungs. If I thought I was going to have an aneurysm before, now I'm sure I'm going to have a stroke as well. No.Fucking.Way.This.Isn't.Their.Cat. A million things was going through my head and number one on that list is I call bullshit. There is no fucking way. I live on a small cul de sac. I am the only house on top of the hill because I own the entire damn top. I've known all the few neighbors for years. This cat doesn't belong to any of them. This cat literally showed up on the day they were moved their stuff in. I was thinking are these guys fucking evil douche bags who dumped their cat and trying to deny it? The words just plopped out of my mouth and I instantly felt like an idiot. "Are you SURE?" Wife looked a little taken aback and said, "That's not our cat." She sounded sincere and her face looked convincing. The husband came to the door and said, "Is there something wrong?" I said, "I thought this was your cat and was brining it back to you. It showed up the day you guys moved in." The husband said, "That's not our cat. I've seen it walking around but I think it belongs to one of the neighbors." He also looked sincere. Are they just world class bullshitters? There's no way this isn't their cat. What are the odds? Their little kid who looked like she was maybe 4 years old or so came to the door and smiled at me and the cat. OK here we go. Kids don't bullshit. They are brutally fucking honest and if this is their cat, this kid is going to spill it right there and then. NOPE. The kid's all like, "A KITTY!" This kid had no idea of this cat. This cat isn't theirs. I could only think "Oh my god. fuck. FUCK FUCK FUCK." I sheepishly apologized for the error and left with the little bastard. It was before 5 so I called Kevin, the vet, and told him I'm bringing the cat over to see if it has a chip. I dropped by his clinic. They scanned the cat. No chip. Kevin examined the cat and estimated it is around 7 or 8 years old. Said there is no way this is a feral street cat as this cat is "broken" and "way to used to being around people." What do you mean 'broken'? Is something wrong? Kevin's said, "NO nothing like that. I mean this." He took the cat from me and cradled it on its back. It just stared at him calmly. He put it on the table on its back and gently grabbed both hind legs and pumped them up and down and went "chugga chugga chugga chugga choo choo". The cat just looked back and blinked at him. "See? Broken." I had no idea WTF he's talking about. "Cats are wary of complete strangers. Even house cats that have been around people all their lives. Cats don't just let anyone walk up to them, pick them up. And they will never let a stranger just put them on their back exposing their vulnerable abdomen and let them reposition them like a GI Joe action figure with the Kung Fu grip like this one does." So what? So it's really just super friendly. Kevin, "You're not getting it. I've never seen a cat as chill as this cat. No one has. They don't make cats like this. This cat literally gives zero fucks. Even to its own peril. Even the techs noticed it. They were just passing this cat around, putting it in all positions, holding it, petting it. This cat didn't give a fuck. This goes way beyond being just friendly. It's broken man, but in a good way." Maybe it's just developmentally disabled? Kevin, "Nope. Not that I can tell. In fact, I think its probably above average intelligence." What makes you say that? Kevin, "It somehow wiggled its way into your life and got your dumb ass here didn't it? " But I don't like cats. Kevin, "I KNOW! It's played the long con on you." He was smiling his ass off like it was Christmas, "Like I said, smart." But I don't want a cat. Don't you know anyone who will take it? Kevin, "Absolutely. The tech already offered. She's in love with it. And the other tech wants it too. But here's the thing." What? Kevin took the cat and plopped it in my arms. It looked up at me with those big dumb eyes and started purring really loud. He took the cat back. Purring stopped. Cat just looked at him. He put the cat back in my arms. It started purring again. Kevin, "See? This cat has a major hard on for you. I'm not going to tell you what to do but my two cents it would be cruel to separate this cat from you. Look, if you really don't want the cat I can have literally a bazillion ladies in two seconds here busting down this door for this cat. At least you told me you didn't feed it." Um...I told him my wife already did and she really liked the cat. Kevin, "Oh man, you're fucked." So...I bring the cat back home. I told my wife everything. My wife has a grin ear to ear. Wife, "Ok good." She grabbed the cat and it just snuggled up to her. The little kiss ass. "There's still time to go to PetSmart and get it some things. And while we're there you can get one of those cat flappy doors for the kitchen." I told her "Hell no." This cat has already given me major headaches with ants outside. I don't want it coming in the house. I looked her straight in the eyes and said, "100 percent NO to the cat door." I crossed my arms "1,000 percent NO" She narrowed her eyes at me. Anyways...we're at PetSmart and she's looking for outfits for the cat and I'm in the pet door section... The only consolation prize is she let me name the cat. I named it what she thought was "Elby". I told her it sounds cute like Elmo and she went with it. It's actually is "L.B." for little bastard. I giggle inside when I call its name. PS: "Elby" has stopped bringing me dead things since being inside most of the time. Has already destroyed my Newton's cradle I've had for years in my office, stolen one of my Chewbacca slippers which I still haven't found and I still often wake up after napping with him sleeping on my chest, ass right in my face. [Concluded happily] Not really a cat person. HOW do I gently stop neighbor's cat from bringing me dead things?
I am not the OOP. The OOP is u/spicedpumpkins posting in r/cats Concluded as per OOP Update One - Short Update Two - Longish Original - 11th September 2024 Update One - 12th September 2024 Update Two - 22nd September 2024 ***Original**\* I've got a pretty large property and don't mind the neighbor's cat hanging out chasing mice and other things but it's constantly walking right up to me and brining me dead things when I'm outside. Comments Prestigious-Beach190 Many cats prefer to be left alone unless they specifically ask for attention, so you've probably been the perfect friend for this cat. Bringing you dead prey demonstrates that: the cat loves you and is taking care of you by bringing you food. Stopping that will likely be difficult. The cat will probably continue to 'feed' you for as long as he or she loves you. So unless you can find a way to keep the cat off your property (or make him/her stop loving you), there's no real solution to your predicament. Elmindria You need to assert yourself as a self sufficient hunter and present it with dead things yourself. That way it knows you are capable and not going to die if it stops providing for you. It likes you but is concerned you won't survive without it's assistance. Karanosz Cats WANT us to honor their boundaries. You do just that. You show a lot of respect to it without even knowing. Petting when asks for it like when it rubs to you, you even fulfill it asking for attention. So now, it brings you tributes and gifts, to deepen this well kicked off relationship even more. It's a form of courtesy. This cat wants to be your friend and wants you to acknowledge that by accepting the offerings and giving it affection when it brings them. My cat does it too. Lizards, bugs, back long ago birds, for which I scolded her so she didn't bring me dead/dying birbs anymore. But otherwise it's better to pretend that you accept it, and getting rid of it unseen if you are willing to deepen your bond with the cat. Or scold it for it. If you want to sever the relationship, do it coldly, and harshly verbally. Do not hurt it physically. If you really don't want the cat to even interact with you anymore you can push it away with your leg when it rubs to it. I would definitely not have the heart to do that though. I would melt and praise it like a god for the random adoption(it adopting me). It's such a kind thing from such a normally selfish creature as a cat. **UPDATE 1 DAY LATER*\* In a nutshell, the neighbor's cat keeps bringing me dead things almost daily. Nope. My beloved dog wouldn't even come up to me the entire rest of the day My wife said I stunk and demanded I shower. I told her I still had a lot of chores outside in the yard and she said I can't step into the house until I showered. I told her I would shower after my chores. The cat showed up as usual and brought me another dead thing (partial grasshopper this time) and I did what the vet said and gave it the cat treat. I did a lot of work in the yard but still had more to do so I was going to go take a quick nap on the couch and then get back to the yard but my wife wouldn't have any of it and kicked me out. FML. I give up. Comments Feline_Shenanigans I know you are frustrated but this is hilarious. Kitty has decided that you are theirs to care for. Since cat is older, it sounds like kitty might be losing their sense of smell. Or is one of those rare cats that LOVES vinegar (my furry bastard is one of those). I’m curious how the cat reacts to your wife. If they aren’t impressed it might be worth getting permission from her to borrow her shampoo, body wash, deodorant, etc. for a few days to see if smelling more like another human has an impact. Might also be worth asking some gardening subs for advice on how to step up your anticide. Or possibly consider accepting that the neighbourhood granny cat has decided that you aren’t eating properly and they need to feed you. O_Elbereth I had one that would roll itself into spilled pickle or olive brine and act like it was catnip. Every once in a while there's a weird one. anonny42357 I had one that was obsessed with carrots. Carrots and booze. She never met any type of booze she didn't like, except one particularly expensive (and disgusting IMHO) bottle of scotch. You had to not only keep your drinks covered, but hold the covers down, because once she realized you had alcohol, she got very pushy about it. I never let her have more than the single drop remaining at the bottom of the wine glass )because lol) , but if noobs were around, she would dunk her entire arm into their drink, even though I warned them to watch out. She lived to 16. I miss her. anonny42357 Wine from the glass is funnier when she had to reach in all the way up to her armpit to reach it. Even funnier was that she would get so into licking that sweet sweet nectar of the gods\ off her foot, that you could switch the wine glass for a wine glass of water without her noticing. If she turned around and put her foot in that and licked it only to realize it was common poor-people water, she would give you one hell of a stink eye.* Apparently my aunt got drunk and gave the cat a bit too much, and when mom cut off both the aunt any the cat, the cat got mean about it, which everyone found hilarious. \she thought it was sweet nectar. Amusingly, I don't actually like wine, and I rarely drink. I'm pretty sure that cat consumed alcohol on more occasions in her 16 years than I have in my whole 40!* \* I feel the need to shoehorn something in there about water? Like from the toilet? But electrolytes!* Maggiemayday You are The Chosen One. There is little you can do except accept the sacrificial offerings with grace and set out ant traps. Careful-Drama You could try going in the other direction - love bomb the cat. Pick it up for forced cuddles. (This is how I trained mine to stop waking me up in the night - now he cuddles with my husband who is gentle and wakes to pat him.) Chase it yelling 'here kitty kitty'. Wake it for cuddles if ever you find it sleeping. They often love the most on those who want nothing to do with them. Now of course, this can backfire. In which case, enjoy your new cat! ***UPDATE 11 DAYS LATER**\* First of all I'd like to thank everyone who gave sincere well meaning advice here as when I say I'm not a cat person, I really mean I'm not a cat person. The cat literally showed up on the day the new neighbor below the hill moved in with their stuff. I reintroduced myself while holding their cat and told them I'm bringing it back as it's been coming over to my yard every day. This cat literally showed up on the day they moved their stuff in. The husband came to the door and said, "Is there something wrong?" I said, "I thought this was your cat and was bringing it back to you. It showed up the day you guys moved in." The husband said, "That's not our cat. I've seen it walking around but I think it belongs to one of the neighbors." He also looked sincere. The GME - KOSS Connection: The spark to ignite the basket, and perhaps DFV's next move?
First off, I want to say that nothing in this post is financial advice. Warning: This post contains an in-depth look at a stock that is not GME. Some of you may not be ready for this DD, but this DD is ready for you. Please lower your pitchforks, read thoroughly, and let it all sink in. At the end, you will see how it all circles back to GME. The last two times I posted a new theory, my posts were downvoted to oblivion. Both times I ended up being right, and upon re-posting the same theory after the fact, many apes loved the DD. Keep an open mind. https://preview.redd.it/4yfauvu5r5ad1.png?width=920&format=png&auto=webp&s=85afd76359b585dca35a85c1080725d769557ce7 Although not required, a high quality tinfoil hat is recommended beyond this point... Introduction Ever since DFV's return, I have been spending all of my free time trying to figure out what's coming next. I've revisited DD of old, spent hours looking over the charts, and re-read various resources such as the SEC and BRNO documents. Having a fresh look into the past, combined with all of the new clues DFV has laid for us, lead me to a T+35C settlement period theory which I have made several posts about. The settlement period that I outlined lines up perfectly with the GME 2021 Sneeze, other basket stocks' 2021 Sneezes, GME's 2024 run, and CHWY's ongoing run. I think we can all agree at this point that DFV's dog emoji was in reference to CHWY, which leads to the question everyone's been asking, what's next? Wut mean flag and microphone??? Many of you beautiful apes reached out to me with various basket stocks to look into, hoping we could find the next run. I started combing through them looking for volume spikes and patterns. Although I did find some, several of those stocks are extremely liquid and their runs are rather boring compared to GME's huge rips. However, many of you asked me to look at KOSS, and I ended up discovering something far more interesting. Or should I say, I re-discovered something interesting from the past: the strong interconnection between GME and KOSS, and KOSS's unique qualities that make it different from other basket stocks. https://preview.redd.it/tx1wh0n7r5ad1.png?width=318&format=png&auto=webp&s=ce9dce5da74955ab15dbb80edc558dda36c2af63 The GME - KOSS Connection I want to start by showing you how interconnected GME and KOSS really are. Many apes already know this, but I think it is important to illustrate it for those that haven't seen it before. All charts are split-adjusted and are showing daily candles. As you can see, KOSS sneezed just like GME in January of 2021. KOSS's sneeze was surprisingly of similar magnitude to GME (from a couple dollars to $130), despite lacking all of the bullish qualities of GME. More on that later... Following the sneeze, GME and KOSS ran with prices peaking on the exact same days in February and March of 2021. You'll notice the insane volume numbers we see on KOSS in many of these charts, I've pointed out March 10 (the famous Mario Day run) as it was the largest. Let's keep moving forward, GME had another big run in May/June of 2021. KOSS also had a big run. This is one of the few instances where GME and KOSS peaked on different dates, but you can see that KOSS still had unusually high volume for the entire period of GME's upwards movement. I'm sure everyone remembers GME's huge March 2022 run from $20 to $50. Well, KOSS ran too, nearly doubling in price and peaking on the same day. Here's a chart spanning a larger time frame in 2022, there's a lot going on here. GME had several smaller runs/volume spikes during this period. As you can see, although the spikes were smaller, KOSS had volume spikes to match every single time. Another interesting find is that KOSS had a big run the day after GME's stock split. In all fairness, KOSS did release a bullish news announcement that day, so maybe all of that volume can be attributed to that. Interesting none the less. On to 2023, GME had a run that peaked on February 6. KOSS also got hit with volume and peaked on the same day. In March of 2023, GME had a big single-day run. In this instance, KOSS's volume and run was rather wimpy compared to GME's, but it is still present. Finally, let's look at a chart of the past year. I've shown many instances of GME and KOSS running/peaking together, but you should also know that they are ground down together over time as well. This is shown by both stocks being slowly pushed down for the better part of the last year. Once DFV returned on May 12, both stocks saw massive volume spikes and runs. On May 13 and May 14, KOSS traded multiples of its total outstanding shares each day. There are many other instances of GME and KOSS tracking each other, but I think I've shown enough to get the point across. Don't be fooled, they are in fact different stocks, and from time to time they do deviate with their own company news/earnings/etc. However, it is kind of mind-blowing how correlated they really are, I believe KOSS has to be the basket stock which most closely mimics GME of them all. I know that was a lot of charts for the ape brain, so here's a meme to summarize: https://preview.redd.it/hry7qughr5ad1.jpg?width=1363&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60fea27c3a4a701c1a1946a3a37af4c118cf982c What makes KOSS unique? KOSS is a much smaller company than most of the basket stocks. It only has 9.25 million shares outstanding with a market cap of only ~$41 million at today's price of $4.45. 45% of KOSS is owned by insiders, meaning that the free float is only 5.22 million shares. Go ahead and fact check all the numbers: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/KOSS/ KOSS has no option chain. Other than these crazy runs that KOSS has in tandem with GME, KOSS is generally illiquid. With the exception of these volume spikes, most days the stock trades very little volume. This can result in some interesting things. For example, the week DFV returned, KOSS's borrow rate hit over 100% (GME's hit a max of 22%). KOSS's borrow rate is still hovering around 40%. KOSS also FTD'ed 220,000 shares on May 13, that's 2.4% of outstanding shares in a single day. To put that into perspective, that would be like GME FTD'ing over 16 million shares in a single day. https://preview.redd.it/xfvjnh4kr5ad1.png?width=1824&format=png&auto=webp&s=3a75399385f07a611b2f29537f7c13209240d1bd https://preview.redd.it/atzzxw9mr5ad1.png?width=1834&format=png&auto=webp&s=aa84e5e6ebf288f982fcc75417d9ae20f7557f69 Let's unpack all of that for a second. Here's some interesting points, in no particular order: There was a buildup of bullish things that happened to GME in 2020 which ultimately resulted in The Sneeze. First Michael Burry came in, GME made a deal with Microsoft, obviously DFV entered the arena, Cohen came in, and finally there was a massive FOMO of call buying from retail. All of this culminated in GME's massive run. Now let's look at KOSS...KOSS had no DFV, no Cohen, no call buying, yet it still ran just as hard...let that sink in...KOSS ran from a couple bucks a share to $130 simply on the back of the basket. There was no market maker's hedging of options, there was no extreme bullishness, and no FOMO into the company, just pure basket covering. Scroll back up and look at the Sneeze chart...mind blowing. During these runs, KOSS is trading many multiples of its float in a single day. Hell, it trades many multiples of the entire shares outstanding in a day. The stock will go from trading like 10k shares a day, then boom, tens of millions of shares out of nowhere. There are so many instances of this shown in my charts above. I pointed out the biggest one on March 10, 2021, when KOSS traded 60M shares (12x the float, 6x shares outstanding). On May 13, 2024 and May 14, 2024 after DFV's return, KOSS traded 19M shares each day. Again, this volume is with no option hedging. When KOSS runs, there is no option chain for the SHFs to manipulate. Think about all the tricks they've used on GME's runs over the years. They create massive resistances with put walls, they manipulate IV by selling calls, they even buy calls themselves to profit off of the run that they know is coming. None of that is possible on a KOSS run. Sure, they still have dark pools and push most of the volume off-exchange, but they can't pressure the stock down or hide shorts with options. If they want to profit off a run, they have to buy the actual stock and file it. Look at how easy it would be lock the float on KOSS. Around $20M to buy up the float, or ~$40M for all the goddamn shares. In my opinion, KOSS's tiny size makes it the biggest vulnerability to blowing up the basket. This is the main point of this post. Ohh no, OP is trying to pump another stock! Downvote him! STOP right there! I know what you're thinking, "Look at this shill trying to get us to buy KOSS." Nope! I'm not telling you to sell your GME, I'm sure as hell not selling mine. I'm also not telling you to invest your money in any other company. GME's fundamentals are in another league compared to KOSS, and GME is the only stock that we've seen enough evidence to know there's still mountains of hidden shorts out there. Sure it would be easy for retail to lock up KOSS, but you know what would be even better...if one individual locked up the whole company to ignite the basket...enter the Kitty. In 2021 we saw what happens when a stock is over 200% short, maybe its time we fuck around and find out what happens when a stock is over 200% bought. Based on his last YOLO update, we know DFV had around $268M in his portfolio. We also know he's probably pulling in a profit from CHWY's run. I already showed in a previous DD that CHWY's T+35C covering period is set to end on July 3rd. What if DFV's plan all along was to take profits on or before July 3rd, and then roll some of those profits into buying up KOSS, hence the next emoji in the sequence. https://preview.redd.it/40v5v55pr5ad1.png?width=318&format=png&auto=webp&s=116faf69e657456005b9fcbc3cc74dd8590163ce Let's break it down From the beginning, this whole movement of retail investors was really about two things: Getting rich off of MOASS. Exposing the corruption in the markets. After everything I've learned over the past four years, this is the easiest way to accomplish both of those goals. Let's break it down: We know the SHFs are so stupid that they have interconnected these baskets of stocks to no return. Based on both the Sneeze and our most recent run, it is obvious that a massive run on one stock in the basket ignites a series of runs all across the market. If KOSS, one of the stocks that is most tightly coupled to GME, were to become completely locked up in an infinity squeeze, that would surely cause GME and many other stocks to run...and I mean run hard. I am convinced that if KOSS were to blow up, GME would blow up as well. In 2005, an investor purchased all of the shares outstanding of a company, and the stock traded 50M shares the next two days. They brushed it under the rug, but times have changed. There are now millions of eyes all across the world on these issues, watching DFV's every move. This is why I think in a perfect world, it would be much better to have one entity (DFV) lock up KOSS. The corruption would truly be exposed and undeniable for the world to see. https://reddit.com/link/1dtv3zj/video/cju5fxa1r5ad1/player The Prediction Mr. Deep Fucking Value, the legend himself, is going to show us the path to MOASS. He either already took profits on CHWY's run or he's going to on July 3rd. He is then going to flex that massive portfolio of his by buying up KOSS's float (or perhaps 9,001,000 shares), then put the rest into GME. We'll see a KOSS SEC filing a week later, then we wait. Next time GME runs, they won't know what to do with KOSS. This will be the spark that ignites the whole basket. Once we actually get to the point in which shorts are forced to close, GME will rise as the biggest squeeze of them all because of the billions of hidden shorts that we know are still out there. https://preview.redd.it/r93mbr1rr5ad1.jpg?width=1072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e90d1d7fb5664f8563c933241c1e35e4727a3b39 ...mic drop (you know the one from the emoji) Update @ 09:05 PM EST: I've been debating whether or not to acknowledge the after hours run. I definitely didn't tell anyone to buy KOSS, so what the hell. I don't remember exactly what time I posted this but it was around market close. KOSS did indeed run 31% in after hours. 78k shares traded during normal market hours, and 173k in after hours. Was it algos watching Superstonk? Was it you degenerate apes buying up KOSS even though I didn't tell you to? Was it DFV starting a position? Or was it simply scheduled covering and my post had nothing to do with it, just lucky timing? Your guess is as good as mine. https://preview.redd.it/aquowzdsr4bd1.png?width=522&format=png&auto=webp&s=bde0f1fe65ecbbcf8c124dd53204e1838eed803d https://preview.redd.it/pof468ytr4bd1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=246d96a57dc881679353cd7034517ef016854892 Regardless of what caused it, I did tell you the stock is illiquid... UPDATE #2 07/03/2024: You guys inspired me. Why should we wait on DFV to lock the float for us? Son of a bitch, I'm in! I only had a small position in KOSS before posting this, but today I bought more and tried to post a YOLO: https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/1dukspg/koss_yolo_july_3_2024/ The mods removed it ☹️ I understand that it was technically against the rules, but I don't think people are really understanding the potential here. Also, why is everyone saying congratulations? I didn't sell shit, I bought more KOSS today. You think an unexpected burst of 70M volume on a stock with 9M shares outstanding isn't going to cause some FTDs and reverberations? https://preview.redd.it/kdpefkpkncad1.png?width=944&format=png&auto=webp&s=c91ae84378a7e13139178ea77305800d65e9505f UPDATE #3 07/05/2024: End of the week update, and maybe my final update on this post. Another good day for KOSS, +25% during market hours, -8% after hours. Traded 58M volume today. How does a stock with a float of 5.22M trade 128M shares in two days? That's crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once... Based on the comments I'm seeing around Reddit, I see that a lot of you guys took profits on your KOSS and bought more GME. Just wanted to say congrats on your gains 🚀 https://preview.redd.it/1u3rvbwsl4bd1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=c6e9df82cf31d325d6c862f47d7c1f842d9b835b As for me? I held, and bought more today. Patiently waiting to see if my prediction about DFV potentially taking a position in KOSS was right. Don't do what I do, I'm crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once... Solar heater for above ground pool flow Q.
Hi , i made a solar heater for our above ground pool using 400ft of irrigation tubing. My question is..... when pumping water through the tubing to be recirculated back to the pool, should the flow from the pump be tapered down, or allow the pump to push at full rate? https://youtube.com/shorts/T5MYzXhOXdw?si=CwGn2-QAHiLMNC5p Thank you for your time. submitted by /u/Leading-Librarian721 to r/DIY [link] [comments]
