After 17 years, my adoptive parents finally gave me a letter from my birth mother [OC]
I was adopted from Russia when I was 3 by an American couple. I had a pretty normal childhood, my three other siblings were my parent's biological children. My parents always said that they loved me as much as my other siblings and I never doubted it. Over these past few months, something really awful happened between my brother and they ultimately ended up taking his side. I was blamed for it and they cut me off. They said they were going to through away all of my personal things since I wasn't their daughter anymore, but I begged them to let me come get them after I was done with my finals. I only only found out about the letter recently and it makes me think they never would have made it known to me for their own selfish reasons. I was able to get a box full of stuff including the letter and my biological mother's baby blanket. Seeing my own mom's handwriting made me so emotional and I have been holding the letter against my chest every night while I fall asleep. I have never felt more at peace to know how much she loved(loves) me and I hope to meet her some day if possible. submitted by /u/ilovepopcornandcandy to r/MadeMeSmile [link] [comments]

I [24/F] was placed for adoption when I was a few weeks old. My birth mom's attourney contacted me saying my birth mom wants to meet me. But I don't want to meet her. Help!
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/dodongoqueen I [24/F] was placed for adoption when I was a few weeks old. My birth mom's attourney contacted me saying my birth mom wants to meet me. But I don't want to meet her. Help! Original Post Apr 6, 2015 I guess there's not much more to say. Basically my parents adopted me when I was 3 or 4 weeks old. I don't know much about my bio mom other than I think the story is she was a teenage mom. I know nothing about my bio father. I've never really been curious or had a desire to know the story or my bio parents either. The fact of the matter is my adopted parents are my REAL parents. They've raised me almost my whole life and half the time everyone, including me, forgets I'm adopted. I'm now happily married and have a good start to my career. Recently an attourney representing my birth mother contacted me, saying my birth mother very much wants to meet me. Reddit, while I'm grateful to my birth mother for placing me for adoption and for giving me the best set of parents and brothers (my adopted parents biological children) in the world, I am not very interested in meeting her. I have no animosity towards her at all, as I said I am so greatful she gave me the best shot at life possible, but she is a stranger to me and I feel no pull, tie or even curiosity about her. I'm happy with my life and my family and this just seems like it would disturb that or throw it out of balance somehow. Am I a horrible person for not wanting to meet my birth mom? I'm feeling really down about it. My husband supports me either way but he loves me like crazy and isn't the best for unbiased opinions. Neither my parents or my brothers know about this, just my husband, because I really don't want to involve them unless absolutely necessary. And what should I say to my birth mom's attourney to make the rejection and let down as kind and easy as possible on my birth mom? I don't want to hurt her, but I don't want to meet her. TL;DR My birth mom placed me for adoption when I was only a few weeks old. I have a kick ass family. 24 years later my birth mom's attourney contacts me saying my birth mom wants to meet me. I have zero desire to see her. Is there a way to let her down easy or would I be a horrible person to pass this up? RELEVANT COMMENTS bladedada I am no expert on the subject, but to me, it seems like your choice. She's extended the invitation, and you have every right to decline. No is a full sentence. You have every right to just respond and say no thank you. IF you want to do something about it, maybe take some time to write up a little "bio." A little essay about your childhood, your life, your husband, etc. The lawyer can give it to your birth mom. It might help her curiosity and assuage any guilt she has. I think that's a fair compromise. Since you have no ill will toward your birth mom, it doesn't seem like too much. Good luck! OOP Hmmm, that's definitely something to consider for sure. I asked her attourney if I could please have some time to think about it and he said to take all the time I need. This might definitely be the perfect compromise for both of us ~ whemifeellikeit Well, knowing who your birth mother is doesn't necessarily equal getting to know her or having a relationship with her. You don't have to want that. You don't have to want anything at all, and you're well within your rights to let the lawyer know this. Consider that it may be valuable in the future to at least know who and where she is, though. I mainly consider these things because genetic heritage is something valuable to know in cases of health/medical matters, and also because your children may care to know this information or what your ancestry can tell them in the future. Knowing where you came from can help in unforeseen ways sometimes. So if you feel inclined, perhaps write a letter to the attorney asking to know your mother's name and location and contact information, but write another letter for the attorney to forward to your birth mother saying that at this time, you're not ready for a meeting or a relationship with her. Say what you've said here, that you are very happy with your life, that you had a great childhood with a loving family, that you have a promising career ahead of you, and that you have a husband who loves you deeply and you him. That may be all she really wants to know... just how the baby she gave up turned out. Did she make the right choice? You may give her a lot of peace of mind if you just reach out with a letter this way. Then, at some point in the future, you might have a change of heart or might want to pass the information down to your own children so that they can pursue it on their own. Just some things to consider. OOP This was really good advice thank you. Hey, if it gives her peace of mind for her to know I had a fantastic life and a bright future ahead then that seems like the least I can do for the head start she gave me. EDIT* Wow guys I can't believe all the responses! I log on and my inbox is overflowing! While I don't agree with all the responses, I appreciate each and every one of them. I'm still in the process of making up my mind but I think I know the route I'm going to take. I will give an update when something happens. Thank you again everyone! Update - rareddit Apr 18, 2015 I just wanted to thank everyone who responded first of all. I took time to read all your comments and really think through them. Shout out also to my husband who has been my rock and confidant in all of this. For anyone who didn't read, this is the original post https://www.reddit.com/r/relationships/comments/31p3pd/i_24f_was_placed_for_adoption_when_i_was_a_few/ I just wanted to give a quick update and let everyone know what happened. I decided to write a little bio about myself. I gave a brief synopsis of my childhood, my parents and my brothers. I wrote about my college major, my degree, my career, my husband and my plans and goals as well as some hobbies I like to do. I also included a few photos of me, my husband and my family. I also briefly thanked her for giving me a chance for a wonderful life and that I was very happy. I sent everything to her lawyer and conveyed to him to tell my birth mom that I had thought long and hard about it and I'm just not ready for a meeting or any kind of relationship at this point in time but that I wanted her to have some takeaway. I also asked that if she had any relevant medical history on her side of the family or if she knew about any health issues my bio dad faced to please let me know as my husband and I plan on trying to start a family in the near future. Her lawyer got back to me yesterday and said my birth mom was dissapointed about not being able to meet me but she was thrilled and greatful for the bio and pictures I had provided her and it was clear I had been raised well. And that she also wanted to tell me there were no major health issues in her family and to the best of her knowledge none for my birth father, but if anything came up, could she please contact me in the future? I responded that he (the lawyer) is free to reach out to me at anytime if she has any relevant information in the future. I purposely said this because I don't want my bio mom just calling me out of the blue one day and possibly trying to harass me into having a relationship. I would rather do everything through a legal third party. I reiterated again I don't want a relationship currently but I might be open to it someday (I doubt it) and they were free to keep my contact information and I would keep thiers just in case. Why burn bridges unnecessarily? He thanked me and that was the end of that. I'm happy with my decision, glad I could give my birth mom some closure that she made the right choice and happy to be starting my life with my career and husband. I know this isn't really the typical juicy stuff Reddit likes but it is what is and I just wanted to let all the people who took thier time to help me how it turned out. Thanks again! TL;DR Gave birth mom a brief bio about me and some pictures. Found out that to the best of her knowledge there are no major medical problems. Keeping lines of communication open in case I ever change my mind about meeting her even though I doubt I will. All's well that ends well EDIT: For some grammar and also I forgot to mention I told my parents and brothers about my birth mom contacting me, and telling them that I did not want to meet her but I did want to give her a quick blog about my life. I was worried my family would be hurt or not take it well, but nothing could be further from the truth. They were all super supportive and said they had my back no matter what decision I made and that they would love me no matter what. They are very proud and happy for the choice I made here. I am so greatful to have such an amazing family, I really am blessed. Then, conditional mean analysis for regressions eventually adopt reliability_{curve,error} vocabulary, which makes the distinction between continuous and discrete labels clearer anyways. So I would be in favor of a separate follow-up PR to implement reliability_ {curve, error} for (mean) regressors. Sounds good to me

So a barn kitty adopted me
I know nothing about cats. I know cattle and chickens yet here we are. What do I do how do I care for it. I want to help and I guess I now have a pet cat instead of barn cats? Idk I am lost someone please help Edit: Only realized this today but the momma has been increasingly friendly. Maybe wanting something? I have farm scratch, idk if there is something they can’t have. They apparently will not eat chicken feed fyi. Do I feed it meat or do I need to do a milk bottle? submitted by /u/ccoats38 to r/cats [link] [comments]

Convince my husband to let me adopt this stray for our anniversary and help me name her something Fallout Franchise related.
My anniversary is coming up and I was going to get a switch 2 with Fallout4, but I want to forfeit that to adopt this sweet stray I took to the vet today. Hoping to show my husband this post later when I ask him if I can keep her. I have not told him that her bill today was $400. Future bills will probably be a couple thousand to get her completely healthy. We have 2 cats. She has an infection that is being treated w antibiotics now. the vet said she would need teeth extractions in the future. She is about 1-2yo and cross-eyed. Extremely sweet. submitted by /u/PessimisticPals to r/cats [link] [comments]

The Cat Distribution System finally chose me! Just adopted this sweet one-eyed boy today. What should I name him?
He’s super affectionate but still a little shy. I’m leaning towards food names or something pirate-themed (since he's missing an eye lol), but I'm completely open to anything! What do you guys think? Update on the one-eyed orange boy: > We have a winner! His official name is Winky 😉. Huge thanks to everyone who took the time to drop a suggestion. You guys are awesome and gave me so many good laughs. The Cat Distribution System definitely blessed me! 🐈🏴‍☠️ submitted by /u/Exact_Evidence2296 to r/standardissuecats [link] [comments]

These (bonded) cats I adopted really hate me
Just adopted these 2 on Saturday. Male/female bonded cats who met in foster. They won't come out from under the bed unless I am sleeping (dry food eaten / litter box use) I can't feed them any wet food while they hide but I decided to leave out wet food before I went to sleep last night as a "test" and I don't think it was touched. Actually, this morning I noticed they didn't really touch their dry food from last night either. When I adopted, multiple people had to try to get them out of the cage to get them into carriers. They are very fearful cats. I adopted them because I wanted bonded cats and I felt bad since they were in foster for 2-3 years. One of them hisses at me otherwise they both run away. I work remotely most days and they don't even use the litter box or eat when I am in my office (all their stuff is there). What's next????? submitted by /u/purrfect_libra to r/cats [link] [comments]

AITAH for asking my adoptive parents if they have a college fund for me like they have for my sister?
I (17m) was adopted as an infant. My parents were in their late 30s and had tried to have bio kids for years. It didn't happen for them for more than a decade so they looked at infant adoption. My birth parents chose them to be my parents. My parents were present at my birth and my adoptive mom held my birth mom's hand as I was born. Then I went home with my adoptive parents and the rest was history. Three years after they adopted me, my parents found out my adoptive mom was pregnant with my sister (14f). I don't know if the treated me different after that or if they were always a little less in love with me than some adopted kids get. But I always felt that my sister was the clear favorite and their real child. My parents adore her. They spoil her. She got all the cute nicknames like little sweetheart, baby star to list a couple of them. They were also really obsessed with how much she looked like a perfect mix of the two of them. Mom's eye color and nose, dad's hair color and round face and other features. A few of my cousins used to rub it in real good that my parents had their real kid now and if they could send me back they would. My family knew the said it but nobody ever seemed to care very much. I didn't get cuddles and kisses like my sister, didn't get the quality time with each of my parents like she did, didn't get crazy spoiled like her either. They didn't completely ignore me and I did get gifts. But they spent less on me and bought less for me too. Maybe it was the fact I'm a guy and she's a girl idk. I told my parents a few times that I felt left out and they didn't change anything or acknowledge it was true or not true. It was just like oh and then they moved on. My sister noticed the difference and she'd make fun of it. She used to say she wished she had a real sibling and not a fake one. Or how our cousins were her real family and not me. A year ago I found out my parents had a huge college fund for my sister. They were talking to my aunt (mom's sister) about it and how they had invested from a few things and taken from their savings for it. They never mentioned having one for me which stung and I thought about it a lot. I got asked in school if I had money or would I get help from my parents for college and I never knew what to say. I told them I didn't think so and then financial aid was discussed. I reached out to my birth parents a few months ago too (my parents gave me their names and info they had) and they don't want a relationship with me. My parents said they expected as much but figured it wasn't their place to say. They didn't comfort me or anything and my sister said I had four parents who didn't want me so I must be broken. Two weeks ago my parents asked me to speak to my guidance counselor about how busy they are and tell her she should talk college stuff with me and not them. I figured she wanted to find out about the money and that's why she wanted to talk to them. It got to me and I asked them if they had a college fund for me like they have for my sister. They asked me how I knew about it and got mad at me for asking the question. I asked them why they'd make sure she has one but not me when I'll be going to college first and they asked me why I was asking questions that are none of my business. It made me feel like shit and since that day there's a whole lot of tension in the house and my sister is rubbing it in that she gets a college fund and I don't. My parents never said either way but not saying anything is basically an answer, right? AITAH? submitted by /u/Kellixtry to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

cannot believe this happened 😭 i almost quit adopt me 💔
story: 💀 :: I dmed this person because I had 3 pets they wanted (mega Irish elk, mega frogspawn, and mega (R) poodle). We settled on a trade (image 19) and joined Adopt Me to trade. I realized that I didn't have some of the pets in the trade, and we chose swaps for a new trade (image 20). While we were deciding the changes to the trade, they removed pets (and removed the shark puppy here without me noticing) to swap... I accepted without rechecking and confirmed.. I scanned my inventory right after (as one does) to see how cute they all were equipped and found no shark puppy.. I questioned them, and they said that they asked if they could remove the shark puppy and thought I agreed. I never saw that message nor replied to it, and they removed it before supposedly asking. After asking to trade back and getting declined, then expressing my concern, I left the game so I could message them on Reddit (images 3 - 16). 💔 :: (I MAY HAVE CRIED A LITTLE). Typing hurriedly (and badly lol due to stress), I suggested adds to make my overpay less. They proceeded to "support" me, although they were the reason I was stressed... But they agreed and we (after a long time) settled on a trade. Keep in mind that at the very beginning and in the middle, I told them that I was looking for an op, but they still thought that removing the shark puppy would be okay with me?? I wasn't even making them op by that much.. They decided that me overpaying by 18+ was fine?! I looked past my anger and decided that after all that, I can settle on me overpaying by 2+ (image 17) was better that 18+, and that with the risk of losing my pets for an 18 overpay, I couldn't push them to add more to lessen my op. This is how I almost got half-scammed and ultimately traded my dp to fix it. 🫣 :: I do agree, however, that this person was nice enough. I was especially "calm" here even though I would usually be super pissed. I couldn't believe it. I knew that making them mad would not help me get a re-trade. After telling them about the shark puppy, they did give me a neon cat as a consolation effort... bruh. I mean, thanks, but it's not worth even close to the 18 I overpaid by. And usually people would decline trade-backs, re-trades, and adds, and not even message me back, so I am thankful that they did agree to trade again. This wouldn't be classified as a scam (although I kinda think it is) because we both agreed in chat & they agreed to let me add and re-trade. So, thanks for that. table of contents: >> image 1 - the first trade I did with them (thinking that the NR shark puppy was in) >> image 2 - the values of the trade I did with them (I'm left, 18 loss on my side) ** In between (not shown): Right after we did the trade, I checked my inventory and pointed out that they forgot to add the shark puppy, and they said "oop", which I replied "can we pls retrade?" and "or can u give the shark puppy?".. but they said no, and I left the game to go to reddit where I could type messages easier. >> image 3 - the messages on reddit after I did the trade with them >> images 4 to 16 - messages to make the new trade for them to add shark puppy (they wanted my MFR Flaming Fox [keep in mind that was my DP and I overpaid for it 😭💔]) ** rejoined adopt me to do the final trade. >> image 17 - the final trade **final trade: ME: mfr flaming fox THEM: m ghost wolf, mr goldfish, mr lovebird, nr shark puppy, mfr red fox, m tree frog, m snow cat, m blue butterfly, m hopbop, m tegu, m arctic hair, & nfr royal palace spaniel >> image 18 - the overall trading value (including the first trade) >> image 19 - what the trade originally was before I realized that I had traded the NR ice cream hermit crab & the mega ride happy duckling >> image 20 - what the trade was supposed to be before they removed the shark puppy extra comments: I literally was panicking after they declined to trade-back 😭 Was ready to go die in a hole and quit adopt me 😭😭 Anyway, I hope I handled this well and in the future I will always (ALWAYS) check before confirming a trade. I am leaving this person anonymous because there is no reason (that I know of) to report or mention them. P.S. After all this, W/F/L?? 😭💀 have a good day everybody! if u have any offers, comment and ss values (I use elve lol)! pls overpays atp 😭😭😭 P.P.S. MB FOR THE YAP LOL 😭💔💀 EDIT: THEY WERE BANNED! submitted by /u/Real-End7348 to r/AdoptMeTrading [link] [comments]

Lost my 9 year old cat to liver failure. It was devastating. I decided to adopt a kitten. He was close to his brother but I didn’t think I could take two so I took one. Then everyone was telling me I should have kept them together. After talking to my roommate I decided to go back and get the other.
Best decision ever. Mylo and Otis. It’s crazy how I was blessed with two precious boys after losing my other cat. submitted by /u/Future-Brilliant1897 to r/OneOrangeBraincell [link] [comments]

I’ve been wanting to adopt but it looks like she adopted me 😂
My neighbors abandoned their cat and after many attempts to bring her back to them they finally took her but the next day she was right back outside and left in a storm no less. The poor baby was shaking and wet and when she saw me, she immediately came over to me and just walked right into my apartment and has been there since 😂 my neighbors admitted to dumping her bc of financial issues and they gave her to me. submitted by /u/cdizzlebobo to r/cats [link] [comments]

AITAH for adopting a dog after I thought my boyfriend broke up with me?
My boyfriend was going through a tough time, and he said he needed a break. He said he was going to press pause on our relationship and go visit his family in Washington. I asked how you pause a relationship, because I don't understand how that works. He said he needed some time to work on himself and asked me to respect that. After he left I reached out to him a few times via text asking him to let me know he arrived safe and to say hi to his mom for me. I received no response. I tried to call and left a message asking if he had broken up with me. I came to the conclusion that he'd ghosted me, and my friends agreed. I was bummed, and my best friend recommended I find something like a new hobby or a new show to watch that wouldn't make me think of my boyfriend. I decided to get a dog. My boyfriend is horribly allergic to pet dander, so I never even considered getting a pet. However, since he broke up with me, I decided to get one. He's a senior dog from the shelter that needed rescuing. He's low energy and likes to lay with his head in my lap while I read, work or watch TV. After six weeks away my boyfriend texted me that he was back and coming over tomorrow (which was yesterday) so we could talk. I was shocked and texted him back asking what he was talking about. He said he was back and ready to unpause our relationship. He said he would talk to me about everything the next day. I texted back asking what relationship. He didn't answer. Yesterday he showed up and told me he had done a lot of self-examination and was ready to move forward on his life path. He even wanted to talk about moving in together. Then he saw my dog and started freaking out. He asked me how I could get a dog when I know how sick he gets. I told him that since he broke up with me, I didn't think it mattered. He said he didn't break up with me. I said he ghosted me. He said he communicated with me telling me he was pressing pause and visiting family. I said not answering texts is ghosting. We argued in circles and then he said he had to leave because he was getting an allergic reaction, even though he was standing in the doorway, not inside. I feel like he broke up with me and it was okay that I got a dog. He says that he never did and therefore it's a horrible act of disregard to have gotten a dog. Which of us is right? My best friend said I should break up with him because he's a jerk. I don't think I should have to break up with someone that already broke up with me. If I break up with him I'm basically agreeing with him that he didn't break up with me and therefore I was an asshole for getting the dog.
