Switching from Airalo/Yesim eSIM to China Mobile SIM – Will VPN be disrupted?
Hey Reddit, I’m traveling to China soon and need some advice. Phone: Samsung S24 eSIM: I’ll have 1 day of Airalo or Yesim eSIM on my phone before swapping to a China Mobile SIM my aunt is giving us. VPN: I’m using Astrill VPN on my phone during the eSIM day. My main worry: when I swap the eSIM to the China Mobile SIM, will my VPN app/account continue working, or will the network change cause issues? I understand the VPN app is tied to the app/account, not the SIM, but I’ve heard that switching networks can disrupt the connection. Has anyone done this before? Did your VPN continue working after switching SIMs in China? Any tips for avoiding connection problems? Thanks a lot! submitted by /u/mechraymond to r/travel [link] [comments]

China trip for Chinese New Year esim and Shanghai tips
I am from the US and next month I am going to China for about two weeks for Chinese New Year. Plan is a few days in Shanghai, then the high speed train to Beijing because I heard Shanghai to Beijing is only around four hours and I really want to try it. In Beijing I want to see the Forbidden City and also find places where you can really feel Chinese New Year, like temple fairs or streets with decorations, then visit a smaller city with a friend’s family. I would like to set up a travel esim before I leave. Right now I am looking at China or Asia plans from redteago, Airalo and Holafly for my iPhone and I need data for maps, ride apps, translation and a couple of video calls to my family from Beijing. For a trip like this how much data would you usually buy for two weeks in China, and if you know Shanghai well do you have any must visit areas there for a first time visitor besides the Bund. submitted by /u/No_Jackfruit_4131 to r/travelchina [link] [comments]

Using Airalo in China
I am currently in Guangzhou and have been using T-mobile’s global data which has been working great. However, they only give me 5GB and I use Instagram a lot. I’m also hoping to hotspot my laptop to do some work. I’m here for one more week and Airalo offers unlimited data for about $20. I plan on buying the US data/esim so I can keep using my phone like I do with Tmobile. Would this work or should I buy a VPN? submitted by /u/Shot_Wave_3793 to r/travelchina [link] [comments]

Has anyone used the Airalo (Chinacom) eSIM in China recently? Does it bypass the Great Firewall?
Hi everyone, I am planning a trip to China soon and I'm considering buying an eSIM from Airalo to stay connected. I noticed their current provider listed is Chinacom (or China Unicom). I know that generally, foreign SIMs roaming in China tend to bypass the Great Firewall because the traffic is routed through a server outside of China (like HK or Singapore). However, I want to confirm if this is still the case specifically with the current Airalo Chinacom package. submitted by /u/Hot_Map6251 to r/Airalo [link] [comments]

Best eSIM for traveling around China?
Hi everyone, heading to China soon for a three week trip with stops in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou. There will be plenty of time on high-speed trains, so my phone will be doing most of the work for maps, translation and the occasional bit of streaming on long rides. Still trying to sort out the cheapest and most reliable eSIM before I go. Airalo and a couple of others look fine, but the prices feel a bit on the higher side. I came across Redteago as well and it seems cheaper from what I’ve seen, though I haven’t used it before. If anyone has done a similar multi-city trip recently, would love to hear what worked for you. submitted by /u/Plane_Law_6623 to r/chinatravel [link] [comments]

Tips for tourists: China eSIMs
I've spent the whole of today wrestling with various service providers because of eSIM unavailability, and here's my 2 tips after 13 hours of back and forth. 1) Prepare more than 1 eSIM Unfortunately, my main SIM card (which I had purchased from Singapore) was unable to catch service upon landing in China (Chengdu). In order to book myself a Didi to get to my hotel, etc, I had to sit at the airport at a cafe with free wifi to hurriedly purchase another eSIM. I only managed to resolve my main SIM card issue the next day. It's probably best to have a backup eSIM from a different provider (buy a small amount) so you can do the necessities upon landing, like getting yourself to your accommodation. 2) Avoid Airalo - 24/7 Support Is A Lie When my main SIM card wasn't working, I decided to purchase another Airalo eSIM as they promised 24/7 support. Unfortunately, the service is awful. Upon activation, there was no mobile service. Airalo's customer support then proceeded to ignore me on their app and on their WhatsApp, for 12 hours. With no mobile service at all. I can't stress the importance of having a backup eSIM given that so many providers often face technical hiccups with the great firewall. submitted by /u/todayis1984 to r/travelchina [link] [comments]

Which eSIM for China? Holafly unlimited vs Airalo
Hey everyone! Me and my partner are flying to China soon for a 13-day trip, but we can’t decide on a data plan. Should we go with Holafly’s unlimited option (€40 per person, 2 of us) or Airalo’s 10GB plan (€20 per person)? We’ll use navigation most of the time, occasionally scroll TikTok to find restaurants, and might share one or two posts on Instagram. We’re really concerned about running out of data—any suggestions would be super helpful! Thanks so much! submitted by /u/AnalystNaive5390 to r/triptochinaguide [link] [comments]

China (Shanghai/Beijing): Travel eSIM only, or eSIM + Local SIM?
Hi, I'm visiting Shanghai and Beijing for 2 weeks. My French (Bouygues) roaming rates are terrible. I read that a local +86 number is needed for Alipay/WeChat, which worries me. My Question: What is the simplest, most reliable setup? Is just a travel eSIM (like Airalo) enough for data? (And can I register Alipay with my French +33 number?)2. Or do I need to buy BOTH: a travel eSIM (for data) + a local SIM (just to get the +86 number)? Thanks! submitted by /u/MyUsernameIsBizon to r/chinatravel [link] [comments]

Which eSIM for China? Holafly unlimited vs Airalo 10GB
Hi everyone, My partner and I will be flying to China soon for 13 days, but I’m still not sure whether to get the unlimited data plan from Holafly (€40 x 2) or the 10GB plan from Airalo (€20 x 2). What would you recommend? We mainly want to use common apps for navigation and maybe check TikTok for restaurant recommendations. We might post on Instagram once or twice as well. Dont want to run out of data. Thanks a lot submitted by /u/Correct_Stock5398 to r/travelchina [link] [comments]

Airalo eSIM for China – is it reliable?
I’m from Europe and I’m going to China soon. I was looking at the Airalo eSIM. I don’t know much about eSIMs, so I’m trying to find a safe and reliable option. Has anyone used Airalo in China? Did it work well, and were you able to access apps like Instagram, Gmail, and Google Maps without issues? I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or experiences from anyone who’s tried it there. *Edit: Does Yesim work better than Arialo? submitted by /u/Flaky-Climate-2728 to r/chinatravel [link] [comments]

eSIM China - What Are the Best eSIM Providers?
Finally, it’s my time to visit China! I’m a huge tech fan, and China feels like a paradise. Recently, I was watching iShowSpeed’s stream, and it pretty much sealed the deal for me, everything looked so fun, even with the language barrier. At first, I was hesitant because of the political situation, but I’m ready to take the risk. That said, I’m still cautious about things like safety and how to stay connected (I’m a big social media fan, and I really rely on my phone for everything), especially with the Great Firewall and potential issues with internet access. I only speak English, so I’m a bit worried about navigating all of that. I’m planning to stay for 15 days. I’ve used a few eSIM providers in Europe, like Saily, Airalo, and Holafly, and had a great experience with all of them. While they worked well in Europe, I know China’s network will likely be a whole different ball game, and I want to make sure I have reliable service. I’m not exactly rich, but this is a big trip for me, so I’m not looking for the cheapest option, just one I can trust. What do you think would be the best eSIM for China, especially for a social media junkie like me? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,I’ve been planning this trip for years! Thanks in advance! I’ll be sure to share my experience once I’ve tested it out! https://preview.redd.it/8mvyqkjp5uze1.jpg?width=1163&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09b5be4ce64bf924d0ada260114f3092340162dd submitted by /u/Either-Meaning1786 to r/chinalife [link] [comments]

Best eSIMs for traveling in China?
Looking to travel in China for ~30 days and wanting to see what are the best eSIMs (in terms of stability, speed, and price). Also more importantly needed it to bypass the GFW to access the regular websites such as Google and Instagram. I am thinking about Nomad: https://www.getnomad.app/china-eSIM/30DAY-10GB-id-1918 (relatively cheap, but not sure if this can bypass the GFW) or Airalo: https://www.airalo.com/china-esim (a bit pricey, but i think this can bypass the GFW) Please let me know if you guys have any other suggestions. Thanks!!! submitted by /u/a406156752 to r/chinalife [link] [comments]
