Tbh Pokopia hits all the right boxes for me over stardew, never really got on with this or animal crossing, which is a shame as I’m sure their great and I own stardew on steam, previously owned and then sold animal crossing. Pokopia I have not been able to put down since I bought it!

Update: listen everyone. I’m not saying I hate animal crossing. I still love animal crossing. I play it every day. I’ve been stuck at home and even if I wasn’t I would still be playing it. Stop commenting on my mental health, that I need friends or that I need to look on the positive side of life. I wrote out all of the inconveniences and nuances of how the game works with the potential suggestions of how it could be better. I’ve pointed out the issues in hopes that some big brained Nintendo worker will maybe one day see this post and think “hm. Why did we do it that way?” Or “why didn’t we just add more customization slots?” I am writing about the game itself. So if you have something to comment about the game feel free to add your input. Stop commenting on me as a person. I’ve got a right to complain about a game just like anyone else. I recently got back into Animal Crossing as I've been laid up from recovering from surgery. Buckle up this is going to be a long rant. I feel like I have to write this all out so it's not just in my head and maybe somewhere a Nintendo employee will see this "unsolicited game advice" and actually do something. Wishful thinking I know. Lately though Animal Crossing has found new ways to inconvenience the player, leading me to believe they either know what they are doing and intend to release a new Animal Crossing game for the new switch, or they don't ever play the game and have no idea what players actually want. Since at this point there has been enough time since the update was released I'll be listing the limitations of the game and then maybe at the end I'll suggest things I would have done or added. Essentially, I'm listing all the cons first. Note: I have OLED switch I do not have the Switch 2 so there may be differences. I did hear the "call villager" thing they promoted was very limited as well. Hotel: rooms only-finished it in a week VIP rooms-can only do these once a day and they get reset the next day More villagers mean they get in your way while you are editing the island and you get forced to talk to them if you're not careful. When someone is visiting your island they cannot go up to see the rooms you created in the hotel. Missed opportunity for having you walk down the hall and knock on hotel doors like you would for villager homes. Customization: This one pisses me off the most. I use customization constantly and I have filled all my main slots with pathways or other pieces I use on panels. I mostly make my own designs. The way to get around having limited slots is to upload your designs and then when you download them again you can still edit them. No more slots were added. There are new slots on Slumber Islands but there is a huge limitation. You cannot bring Slumber Island designs to your home island. Meaning if you want to use your designs on your home island you need to create the designs on your home island and then transfer them to the Slumber Island. You cannot upload or download patterns while on the Slumber Islands. Cannot resize or rotate while editing in the customization patterns. And you can only mirror on one axis. Missed opportunity to add additional mirror option. They did not add more clothing items despite the fact there are many clothing options available that would be fun to customize. Missed opportunity to let you design how a pattern lays on things like a Panel. Since Panels will duplicate the same patter and not even flip it over on the lower half. Making it almost impossible to make a door if you want to have a doorknob. Or any other type of pattern. Missed opportunity to add more bridge, incline and path designs. Slumber Islands: Supposedly you can do nearly anything on a Slumber Island. And while I like this new added feature there are major holes that are missing here. I'm not sure if it's the same on Switch 2, but you have to be constantly connected to the internet while on an island. It would have made sense to set it up like the Happy Home Paradise and then have gates you could open to invite players. It's also a little confusing which option you're supposed to use for friends who are not in the same building if you want to invite them. Missed opportunity to allow you to put columns, partition wall, and island counters outside instead of just inside. Resetti cannot be called to clear certain parts of this island despite the new feature allowing him to your main island. Calling villagers to a Slumber Island-you cannot talk to them. I'll keep trying but so far all I have seen is you can wave. You can't have them dress to the theme of your Slumber Island either. YOU CANNOT UPLOAD A SLUMBER ISLAND. The only way for people to view your fantastic work you spend days-weeks on-is to have an open internet gate connection. So anyone can come to it. Which I assume also means anyone can modify that island as well. Since they don't work like dream islands. Missed opportunity to have the island sections be modifiable like Happy Home Paradise. The new "feature" lets you tap your heels and walk in a straight line but you're still modifying one square at a time. I don't really mind this, but it would make sense for you to be able to take a section of the island hit the down on the D pad and start dropping items like in the DLC. Here you still have to push and move items one at a time. You can't push trees into place you can only drop them into place. You cannot place villager houses or any other building on a Slumber Island. The only building I have seen so far is my own house. So you can't use villager houses to make streets or other decoration. Missed opportunity to modify beaches and rocks. I haven't really tried this just yet but I can see from the limitations of the construction hat it doesn't look like this is possible. You can't swim or dive on a Slumber Island. If you edit the placement of your tools (to your preferred placement)-when you return to the Slumber Island they will be reset to how the game set it. If you drop a villager on a Slumber Island, when you return they will not be there again. MISSED OPPORTUNITY to have Amiibo villagers summoned to a Slumber Island. That could have boosted sales of Amiibo. But the villagers are limited to once you have had live on your island. So even if you interacted with dozens, created rooms for them with the hotel or DLC you cannot have them on your Slumber Island. House Modification Despite the DLC and now the Hotel showing what resizing a room can be like-it has yet to be added to your own home or villager homes. It's possible they may have a plan for the future-but this update doesn't give me any hope in that happening. This one is kind of random but I am so disappointed that colors do not seem to match. Having a red brick inside pillar, doesn't match the same brick color as the fireplace, or the wall. The style completely stands out and does not look cohesive at all. They also really missed an opportunity to complete sets. Get creative and make completed sets. Like I have an entire moss room, but as far as I know there is no moss bed. The closet would be a green patchwork bed. It's frustrating that sets of furniture might have a dining table (marble) but no matching chairs?? The closets for that would be the exquisite chairs. This makes me thing of someone who is writing a book and doesn't think to make notes because the author thinks that would be irrelevant in the future. Since I've listed all the cons here I think it's pretty obvious how I would have taken on the update. Pretty much adding in the pieces here that we can't work with. Especially-more design slots, being able to make rooms larger in your house and villager houses, more patterns for building and being able to place items outside that are limited to inside spaces. Also, making it so you can add wall items to partition walls and columns. Imagine how cool it would be to have the wall mounted candles on pillars down a long stretch of your house. You could essentially make a Phantom of the Opera hallway. Oh and lastly. Items do not need that much space between each other. People have had to get creative. But the fact I can't put a castle wall right up next to a medieval side building is so silly. There is always a little extra spacing around an item that makes it difficult to make it flush with that item. Same goes for when you're modifying a cliff and you can't just have a sheer cliff wall, or a waterfall on a corner. And to get trees on the edge of a cliff is possible but difficult. Not to mention you can't get a tree need the base of a cliff there always has to be one space between it. You can't walk under lights, can't place items under floating blocks, or on top of items like bookshelves. I know a lot goes into a game, but so does creativity and customization. People love being able to customize their games how they want to. It seems like a missed opportunity to make that available for them in as many ways possible. This might get a lot of backlash and hate and downvotes but I'm prepared to take the heat. Might be an unpopular opinion too but here's the thing: most people in this community are so spoiled and so hard to satisfy. "ACNH has been abandoned, there's no more updates!" * cue update 3.0. in January 2026 * "Is that all of it?? This is not what we wanted!" ... really? I see so many posts, YouTube videos and Tiktoks of people complaining - whichever way the devs do it, they can't do it right. Remember the older games? I do, I've played all of them since Wild World. They didn't have updates. Here's your game, you buy it and that's it. All content you got with this or that game you got with buying that little play card. Now, ACNH brings in updates but it's never good enough. Can't you guys just be happy they prepared something like 3.0 at all? They didn't need to. Nobody forced them to. But they did, they thought of extra content to get us excited (again) and came up with NEW stuff and yet all I see on the internet is just complaints, criticism and people dragging the update before it even released. I'm sorry but but it breaks my heart seeing that kind of response. This update has really worried me. I'm a life-long animal crossing fan. I've been playing and loving each game in the series since the original released. However, I'm really disappointed that new horizons has essentially just become a decorating game. You decorate things and then decorate more things and then decorate some more and thats all there is to do. You can do the usual bug catching, fishing, and holidays, but they're all in service of just more decorations. The biggest flaw in this game is that once you're done decorating things how you like, there's absolute zero substance or gameplay within the decorated spaces. Absolutely zero things to do with your friends, no minigames, none of the decorations do anything besides make a noise or do a little animation. Thats understandable in maybe the wild world era, but this is the switch. You should be able to do things in the spaces you create. When I saw the hotel and kapp'n's family, I was so ecstatic because I thought they were going to finally fix that aspect. But no, its just more decorating. They saw us getting bored after decorating and said "here, have more things to decorate" and thats the entire gameplay loop of this game now. I know the NES games are back (in a really sad, underutilized form) but even then thats not really cool or unique anymore because i can just play them on my switch whenever i want. What happened to desert island escape or puzzle league? Why does my arcade room serve absolutely zero function with all those cool looking games? Im afraid nintendo has lost half of what makes animal crossing fun; the minigames, the villager friendships, the unique small events, and just turned this into decorating sim the franchise. I’m a teacher at a daycare, I’m in charge of the infant classroom 😊 I wanted to do something fun in terms of decorations- so I handmade/drew all my own decor for my class! (With the exception of the Timmy+tommy keychain I put on the diaper changing table key lol) Everything is kept within licensing guidelines for my state. :) Windows are blacked out for the most part, for privacy reasons. At a family event, my 7-year old niece asked to play Animal Crossing on my Switch. I let her play it and after short tutorial, she pretty much got everything in like 15 minutes. Kids can be pretty destructive so I was worried. Eventually, I thought to myself 'So what? I can get everything back. I'll let her have fun' That thought made me appreciate the game a bit more. It was so fun watching her play. She would just run around the island and pointing things out like the flowers, bugs, and how pretty the butterflies were. She would scream-laugh when wasps were chasing her. A good portion of her time playing was spent in the wardrobe changing clothes. Her favorite top was 'Mom's handmade apron' because "her mom made it for her". All my villagers were perfect and nice, all of them were her 'bestfriends'. Diving was another story. She was incredibly excited about finding seaweed, starfish, like she was actually swimming. And swimming. This surprised me. As an adult, I was always annoyed with how we had to change out of wetsuits to do basically anything. I thought to myself 'Why did they even put this stupid rule on?' But my niece (who was taking swimming classes for the summer), kept taking off and putting the wet suit on everytime she would do anything like entering the house or sitting on my outdoor decorations. I told her 'You can just go inside wearing your swimsuit, it's fine' Without even thinking, she said 'No, you should change out of wet clothes when you go inside the house' I was shocked. I never thought about that. To me, it was just another set of programmed NPC lines. It finally made sense. The stupid slow annoying rules and random text weren't made for us adults. We can blast through that text and forget about it. We can be patient. Kids will play this game and imagine it is them. They are who we were when we started playing Wild World or New Leaf or wherever you started playing Animal Crossing. I played again after she went home and started appreciating things a bit more. It was probably the longest and slowest pace I ever played this game. I’ve gotten into writing my own murder mystery parties over the past few years and for my most recent theme I chose one of my favorite pastimes. I started playing AC on the gamecube, loved playing New Leaf on my DS, and have since racked 1200+ hours on New Horizons since it came out. I put a ton of time and heart into writing my murder mystery’s, so choosing a theme that I have a deep level of interest in is important for enjoying the entire process. As you can see, while K.K. Slider was performing for everyone… Tom Nook died!!! 😱 I don’t think I can sell my MM due to copyright laws. However, I have been thinking about packaging everything together to make my story and handmade prints (clues, invites, objectives, etc.) downloadable for anyone to try throwing the party for themselves.
