We were at Iveta on Pacific Avenue.
I had never been but the food, mostly appetizers, was tasty. They ended up sitting at the left side of that table, just a few feet away. I already liked him more than the other candidates and hearing him respond to questions about healthcare, housing, energy, and social justice made me wish I'd gotten behind him sooner. I hope it's him vs Becerra.

Best elevated finger food appetizers
I need your help picking an appetizer (or two) for an upcoming al-fresco dinner party! Here's the menu Welcome cocktail - Basil or rhubarb gimlets Appetizer - I want an elevated appetizer (two) that is easy to eat while people are arriving. What are your suggestions? Main - You all convinced me to make Momofuku's Bo Ssam. Will be served with the sauces, sticky rice, grilled bok choy, picked and raw radish, pickled and raw turnips and bibb lettuce. Also served with a nice champagne. Do we also serve with a red? If so, which type? (We have a great wine store in town so will ask their suggestions too). Dessert - Lemon pudding cake with some added fresh strawberries Thank you! submitted by /u/Gal_in_kalamazoo to r/NYTCooking [link] [comments]

What are your easy but tasteful appetizers?
Looking for easy(ish) crowd pleasing appetizers that aren't going to break the bank for a large family gathering. My in laws family is large and while I love cooking and make most things lovingly from scratch, my food contributions to family gatherings are always underappreciated when compared to the amount of time and/or expense I put into them. For example, when I tell my SIL I will bring a homemade dessert, she inevitably dumps a bunch of store bought desserts on the table. Or serves a bunch of candy before we have served dessert. Pretty much everyone is happy with, or prefers chicken nugget/pizza type foods. Plain chicken. Storebought cupcakes. Basic mac n cheese. I have been asked to bring a charcuterie because last year I made an enormous (very pricey) charcuterie array with additions like some pickled veg, crostini from homemade bread, brined the olives myself, etc. I decided against the cost of that charcuterie and also want to avoid the usual hours of shopping/food prep. I'm usually over the top in effort and disappointed by the response, so it's time to realign the cooking with the reality. Unsure of actually how to cook or plan for contributing to this type of food preference.. Probably sounds ridiculous but I've looked at list after list of "crowd pleasers" recipes and I'm unsure. I'm looking for go to, EASY crowd pleasers with standard ingredients. Edit: Thanks for the overwhelming amount of suggestions and recipes!!! The fact that certain types of dishes were repeated a bunch of times is particularly helpful. I decided to try one dip and one one finger food - in this case, deviled eggs and warm crab dip with baguette. The family does a bunch of casual get togethers all year, so I'll be working my way through the many ideas. My husband is skeptical about the deviled eggs but as this was perhaps the most mentioned suggestion overall, I'll let you guys know how it goes. 🙂 Edit 2: Deviled eggs were demolished quickly. Crab dip was a moderate success but the homemade baguette for the dip was devoured completely. Looking at the food spread through a new lense, you guys were 100% correct. It's pretty much all super bowl party style foods. submitted by /u/heykatja to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

TIL: Crab Rangoons aren't related to Chinese cuisine, and were instead invented in an American Tiki bar by someone trying to give a new appatizer a suitably Asian sounding name, and then re-appropriated by Chinese-American restaurateurs as a staple appetizer.

AITA for refusing to pay $45 for a soda and half an appetizer?
Last weekend, one of my friends organized a group of people to go do fall things. We rented a van and went to a few breweries/wineries. When we got back, we stopped at a pub to hang a bit before going home. There were about 12 of us so they seated us at a table. People ordered food and drinks. When the check came, one of the guys quickly gave his card and after signing, looked around and said okay everyone venmo me $45. This threw me off because many people had ordered meals, sides, drinks and shots. I had ordered a diet coke (I had to drive 1.5 hours home) and shared an appetizer with my husband. I asked if we could each venmo him for what we ordered and he seemed annoyed. He sent everyone a pic of the receipt and had everyone venmo him for what they got. For context, I'm fine splitting the bill evenly when everyone orders roughly the same thing. But also if I ever put my card down, I always ASK everyone if they want to split it evenly or not, not just assume. My husband thinks I'm being cheap and should've just split the bill evenly with everyone. I know I'm more money conscious than others so I'm wondering am I the a-hole? ETA: we were expected to pay $90 (including tax and tip) for me and my husband, since my husband did have a drink and a shot in addition to what I had, our actual total we ended up paying came out to $53 (including tax and tip) submitted by /u/moonstone_magic to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

WIBTA if my spouse and I had just appetizers for our wedding guests but a full roast chicken for ourselves at the wedding?
We're trying to save money where possible for the wedding ceremony and are using Publix for the catering. My wife thinks the guests will be ok just eating finger foods such as fruit/vegetable trays, assorted cheeses, wings, chicken tenders... but she knows she'll be hungry and won't be satisfied with just those. She wants just her and I to also have a roast chicken at the table (I think some sides to). I think it would be incredibly rude to have an openly much better meal than our guests would have. Us tearing apart a full bird while they munch on tenders. Conversely I'd be perfectly fine with just the appetizers for everyone, us included. The costs for every table to get a roast chicken would put us at like $30 a plate according to her and that's not saving money. With every decision we make she justifies them by going "It's OUR wedding! It's ours, not anybody else's!". She didn't want to have a wide variety of options to cater to others either. She only wanted stuff she'd like. I think we'd be total assholes to go through with her idea. Thoughts? submitted by /u/Q_Q_S_S to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
