Why do area rugs cost so much?
Went shopping for furniture for our new home. I was shocked at how much rugs cost. Like $4000 to $5000. That's more than a really nice couch from Ethan Allen. Rugs are just woven fabric with a pattern. Why do they cost so much? submitted by /u/randomseedfarmer to r/homeowners [link] [comments]

Gave My Airbnb Host 3 Stars for a Dirty Kitchen. 2 hours later, He Sent Me a $600 Bill.
I’m not a difficult guest, but if I’m paying a $150 cleaning fee, I expect the floors to actually be vacuumed. The place was "fine," but there were crumbs in the kitchen drawers and hair in the shower. I left a polite, honest 3-star review on Airbnb mentioning the grime. About six hours later, just as I was settling in at home, my phone buzzed. It was an official notification from the Airbnb Resolution Center. The host, "Marc," was requesting $640.00 for "Professional Floor Restoration." He attached a photo of a nasty, charred black circle right in the middle of the bedroom floor. His message was pure vitriol: "You absolute liar. You trashed my home. You left a massive burn on the original hardwood. I have to sand the whole room now. Don't think you’re getting away with this." My heart dropped. I don’t even smoke, and I don't own a hair straightener. I knew exactly what he was doing—he was "punishing" me for the 3-star rating by trying to flip a pre-existing issue into a $600 payday. I spent the next hour shaking with rage, scrolling through my phone. Then, I found it. I’m a paranoid traveler, so I always take a quick "walkthrough" video when I check in. I paused the clip at the 0:12 mark. There was the bedroom, the bed, and the blue area rug. In my video, the rug was slightly bunched at the corner—and there, peeking out from underneath, was the exact same black singe mark. He’d been hiding the burn under a rug, waiting for a "bad" guest to blame. I thought I had him. I found the Zillow listing from when the apartment was sold two years ago. I scrolled through the professional photos and Bingo. In the high-res shot of the master suite, the rug wasn't there yet, but the burn mark was. I sent the timestamped video and the Zillow link straight to Airbnb Support, feeling like I’d won. But then, ten minutes later, I got a notification. "Your case has been escalated." Marc replied to the thread with a "receipt" from a cleaning company dated yesterday morning saying the floor was inspected and clear before I arrived. It looks like a fake invoice, but it’s on official-looking letterhead. Now Airbnb is asking me for "additional proof" or they’ll automatically charge my card on file. I’m sitting here watching my bank balance, waiting for the support chat to agent to join Bad update: It’s been almost a day since the quote unquote final review started. I barely slept. I kept checking the Chase App every time my phone buzzed hoping they finally yanked the $640.The support agent I was talking to last night? Completely ghosted. I got automated email at around 4 am saying my "dedicated case manager" is "currently out of the office'" and will get back to me in 24-48 hours. Like what? Meanwhile, the $640 charge is sitting as a " Pending Transaction" on my card. And that's not even the worst part. Marc sent me a text at round 11 AM today. And said: "trying to use old Zillow photos to commit fraud. My lawyers have been notified. Good luck." I'm actually so scared rn Edit GUYS IT’S OVER.!!! I fianlly got through to a human at Airbnb support upport who actually looked at the attachments. I didn’t even have to argue. I just sent the Zillow link one last time and said something like look at the date on this listing from 2022. The burn is there. Look at my check in video. The burn is still also there. The agent left for like 5 minutes. Then she came back and said that they had reviewed the metadata of my video and cross-referenced the historical listing. Marc's claim has been denied. The $640 hold on my card has been released And here’s the best part,I asked what happens to Marc now. She couldn't give me details, but when I clicked his link around ten minutes ago,404 Page Not Found popped up He didn’t just lose the $640,they nuked his entire account for fraudulent documentation, I hope. All those fake cleaning receipts backfired. I just checked my Chase App and the 'Pending' charge is gone. I’m literally shaking from the adrenaline. Never staying in an Airbnb again. Neighbor left a chunk of her wood floor by my doorstep
Long story short, my upstairs neighbor moved in about a year and a half ago and immediately asked if she could put in hardwood floors (my building requires permission from the below floors if people on the upper floors want to put in hardwood). I said no as our building is echoey and loud enough as-is. It became very obvious very quickly that she replaced everything with hardwood since I could hear basically every step — a few months ago, building management checked and confirmed that hardwood was installed everywhere. She was given a deadline to switch to carpet and, when she asked to meet with me, basically blew up screaming at me that I had “ruined her life” for asking her to remove the flooring that she was never supposed to install. Flash forward to today, her carpet-installation deadline, and I find this by my door. She literally took a chunk of her flooring and wrote a lil passive-aggressive message on it. whelp. Happy new year! EDIT: I'm aware it's not actual wood lol. My building considers hardwood anything other than carpet for the sake of this rule. Also, for the people asking why we couldn't compromise on area rugs or something, there's a reason this is the "long story short" version haha. For months we went back and forth with suggestions but she denied having hard flooring at all. By the time building management got involved they were pissed enough themselves that she'd installed it without permission and had no issue asking her to replace it. submitted by /u/Dubble_Demon to r/Apartmentliving [link] [comments]

small apartment with two large wool area rugs, one synthetic rug, budget $300 or less
I’ve scrolled through the sub for hours and I still can’t figure out which one to get because it all gets way too dense, way too quickly. I want a good reliable vacuum for under $300 with which I can vacuum: 1: Wool rugs, one low pile knotted one high pile. I’m told by the manufacturer that means no brush roll/beater bar. I don’t know if that means no brush roll or just brush roll switch off. 2: Hardwood and linoleum floors. 3: Synthetic rug. 4: My couch. Crevices and all. Recommendations please for area rugs
I’m looking for a good vacuum for area rugs with no beater bar or rotating brush. I have never owned one. I’m still doing research (I didn’t even know about upright and canister before) but after weeks of info, conflicting and at times confusing, while taking care of two toddlers and two remote jobs, I need help please. I was looking into the Miele Classic C1 but reviews of late are not good. Ordering from the US but I live outside the US and can’t afford to get the wrong vacuum that won’t work for me since I can’t return it (or ruin the rugs). Ideal budget for vacuum about 250-350, something hopefully that will last for years. My main concern is for my 4 area rugs about 7x9. 2 are wool/microfiber, the other 2 are Cloudpile from Loloi rugs. Hardwood floors. Have 2 little kids, no pets but I seem to shed long hair all over. Thank you so much! submitted by /u/tutticonfetti to r/VacuumCleaners [link] [comments]

Stuck in a rental with these awful pebble floors...how can I hide them other than area rugs everywhere?
Renting from family currently and they have these god awful pebble floors in every room. These floors are not only impossible to clean but also extremely uncomfortable to walk on and I worry about our baby taking tumble on them when they start walking. I can't explain how much I hate these floors but we have no other place to live currently. I can live with them in the bathroom and kitchen I suppose, but I'd really like to hide them in the living room and bedroom.. Is my only option an excessive amount of area rugs?
