Help choosing living room area rug
Hi all, I'm working on decorating my living room and want to go for a mid-century modern style. I'm not really happy with my current area rug (last slide), so looking for some feedback on these ideas. I know the sectional isn't really mid-century modern; I'll replace it eventually, but working with it for the time being. I also plan to add an accent wood-framed lounge chair by the window and potentially a coffee table and some curtains, but want to get the rug squared away first to lay a solid foundation. Essentially, I want a rug that fits into the classic mid-century modern look, helps to begin establish a color palette and will be versatile as I continue to add/replace pieces. Im open to solids or patterns -- curious what you think and any suggestions are very appreciated. If all these options suck please tell me too! submitted by /u/Plus-Rooster-677 to r/midcenturymodern [link] [comments]

Living room help requested! Ready for a change, but I need help- I'm lost
I'm experiencing some Real Dislike of my living room, and any help at all would be really appreciated. I'm in a oversized 'millennial gray' house. It's hard to pin down exactly what I'm looking for. I want something in a venn diagram of Quirky, Classy, and Warm/Comfy. I want new art, new colors, new lamps, but most importantly a new living room set. Not pictured, over the TV is a *massive* blank wall. Sorry it's a mess. I'm working on that. Right now, actually. My couch is huge (104"or so), and I've never found it comfortable- too deep, back too tall- using it is just an exercise in how many pillows you can stack to make it comfortable. I'd love some comfier seating, and would like to have a smaller sofa as well as comfy chair. I'd love a lamp in the seating area for reading. Maybe brown leather? I can definitely see in these photos that I've got the couch too far forward. I really don't know what to experiment with or correct in terms of layout, but I want to. I think I might need to remount the TV a few feet to the right? I'd love some cool floor lamps on the TV wall, but I can't seem to find anything that works for me. I didn't used to have a rug. I bought it recently to try and provide a little 'warmth', and cut down on the echos in here. I don't think I love the color/pattern I chose. submitted by /u/Rouxnoir to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

Need help designing my living room & dining area
How can I make my living room and dining area look less like a West Elm showroom? I'm hoping to replace the dining table, coffee table, media console, rug, and wall art. The console behind the dining table will be moved to the entryway, so the wall will be empty. Would you rearrange anything else? The pendant light above the dining table doesn't seem to match the current style. The speakers will be on wooden legs in oak as seen in the second last photo. Should the art work in the last photo be in the living room? I've included a photo of the kitchen for colour and style reference. I appreciate any advice and suggestion! submitted by /u/Famous-Athlete-6384 to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

Living room area rug suggestions?
Hi all -- recently moved into my apartment and would love some suggestions on what color/type of area rug would work well in my living room. Also, the stone plinth/console under the TV is just a placeholder for now. Thanks! submitted by /u/SpursGuy90 to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

Before and After: Living room in our 1960s Canadian Cottage (repost for proper formatting)
Hello all! I posted this a few days ago but did not properly format the title. So here it is again. My husband and I bought this house, our forever home in 2021, and moved in with the very little furniture we had from our previous small apartment, which was a mix of Ikea and hand me downs. We have no interior design experience, and felt very overwhelmed with what to do with this room. When I was pregnant with our first child we started frequenting antique malls, flea markets and thrift stores for fun, and that's when we found the style we were looking for. Traditional, but cozy and rustic in a way that fits the bones of this 1960s Canadian cottage. With all the brick, the dark wood floors and the fireplace, we leaned into that style with leather, dark wood, dark greens navies and reds, and mostly thrifted furniture and decor. The couch is the same blue couch but with a green couch cover from Comfortworks, the leather sofa is from Article but found on FB marketplace, the quilt is Faire Living. The art, art lights, side table, toy chest, record player, snowshoes, and brass hooks are second hand finds from all over. The curtains and lamp are Ikea, and the rug is a surprisingly soft jute rug from rugs dot ca The paint and panelling was done by my husband, who is not a contractor at all, but a very determined amateur who absolutely crushed it This is our main living area with our two young kids and it is attached to our kitchen and dining space so nothing is very expensive or precious, my children would destroy any such thing immediately lol Enjoy! Similar Rugs + Living Room Ideas
First time home owner. Never thought I’d own. My wife and I have been in 600 sq ft apartments our whole time together, so we didn’t come into this house with much to fill it! Our place is fairly interesting. It’s a cape cod style from the early 40s, but seemed to have a nearly house-wide renovation in the 60s/70s. It has a traditional form with mid century fittings. Which is perfect for me as I’m a mid century fanatic! I love the direction my living room is heading. Some pieces are placeholders until we can buy something nicer and there’s certainly lots of voids still. I’m hoping to evoke a boho tropical/desert-ish space with Scandinavian woods and ideals. The rug is one of my favorite parts. While it’s not vintage it really hits for me! I’ve struggled to find rugs for our other rooms that evoke the same vibe with similar colors. Looking for suggestions! Also looking for general suggestions for the space! Feel free to throw out even the basic ones like plants etc. I’ve included several other rooms/pieces to showcase the vibe I’m trying to curate. submitted by /u/nocoastkid to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

Updates to the Brickception loft
Hello again everyone, I’m back with a few updates to the loft. The feedback from my last post was both kind & helpful, so I took some of it to heart and made a few changes. A lot of you pointed out that the pool-dining conversion table was overwhelming the living room. Absolutely agreed, so I ended up selling the furniture in the upstairs den and relocating the table there. It feels much more proportionate in that space now, I think, though I still need to use short pool cues. Other updates: • Added a smaller table in the living room that works as a dining table and a second workspace when my partner and I are both working from home. • My mom (kindly) donated a 4x6 rug that fits under it. • Picked up a new lamp for that area. • Found a Studio Ghibli tapestry on Facebook Marketplace for $60, it really brightened up the living room imo. • Was gifted a few posters that I placed by the dining table brick wall. Still undecided on them, but they tie into the rug well enough for now. • Included the bar area under the staircase this time, it didn’t change, but I forgot to share it in the original post. • Moved my partner’s teak side table into the office reading nook (many of you were commenting on it looking unstable) • Took the rug from the den upstairs, placed it in the living room. Moved the old living room rug into the office reading nook. • Moved the Serif TV downstairs from the den, removed the legs, and placed it on a bench I picked up off FB Marketplace that fit on the widow ledge (still allows Kenji to peer outside) • (9th photo was before I picked up the rug for under the dining table) • (Before someone mentions it, I know my TV screen needs to be cleaned lol) For those that were concerned about the books above the kitchen getting greasy, they’ve been up there for a couple years without issue. We cook a lot, but we’re also meticulous about cleaning, which probably helps. Going to continue monitoring and may move them if the situation ever demands it. If you have any questions, please let me know, and thank you all for your kind words on my previous post. Hope you enjoy the changes! - Your Brick Loft submitted by /u/BrickLoft to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

Finishing touch (or other) suggestions for new living room space
Please excuse the mess! We moved into this home in November. While I have some ideas I just haven't carried out yet, I'm still stuck on a few other things design-wise. I would really appreciate some suggestions! I also want to note that we do typically have the shelf that's missing from the bookshelves inserted. We only took it them out for our Christmas decorations and haven't put them back yet. Also, the kitchen is on the opposite side of the half wall behind the couch, and the space pictured is completely open to the upper level loft as well. It's a split-level cape cod type of deal. Here are my ideas that haven't been carried out yet: Sheer white curtains across the large window (what color hardware/curtain rod??) Family photos and knick-knacks on the book shelves, along with the actual books I know I want an accent table of sorts between the chairs, just not sure on style Here's specifically what I'm stuck on: What do I do with that inset area above the fireplace?? The obvious choice would be to put a statement piece of art there, but what? I've gone back and forth on a coffee table and am leaning against having one, since we like the open space for playing with our little one, but am still open to suggestions if it would help pull things together I just feel like there are spaces with untapped potential in the room, like the space next to the chair on the right, the dark painted column/wall to the left of the fireplace. How do I accommodate/fill these (while understanding that not everything needs to be filled)? I do love color and more playful design, so I would be interested in hearing ideas of how to incorporate this more Thanks so much in advance! ETA: Point taken about how most feel about the rug color (and size). Size wise, we are not able to go any bigger because there is a transition strip placed sort of diagonally at the end of the room separating the room from a walkway/entrance. Hard to explain, but if we went any bigger with the rug, it would spill outside of the room's boundaries with the transition strip and would not lay flat. I think we can probably make the rug size work by pulling the furniture closer to it. The rug is already an 8x10, so it's not a small room by any means. Color wise, I do see what people are talking about. I don't know that I'm ready to give up on it yet and it was actually growing on me, even though it's not the one we intended to purchase. That's the risk you take posting things publicly! I asked for feedback and got it, so no hard feelings there. As for the gray paint, this was actually something we had professionally done in the last month. It was a very bright, almost gaudy blue before. The gray is an homage to the last home we lived in, which we loved and thought we would be in forever. Life happened and we had to move to something that better fit our needs. We had that color in one of our most lived-in rooms at the old house. When choosing a color, we tried out sooooo many swatches and visualizations, and we thought the gray is truly what looked best. Lighter greens and neutrals looked awful to be honest. So it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's ours. I appreciate the feedback regardless. submitted by /u/Latetothisshindig to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

[29M] Recently moved into this (literal) studio appartment that's built in a barn full of goats, but is also free of charge
So yeah, good opportunity to save and live the good life! Still in need of lots of stuff, plants and decor most of all, and a good rug. And I desperately need a new desk but this was already here and I can't get rid of it for now lmao Trying to go cozy boho and keeping a bit of a theme where the furniture is dark wood/light oak and then the accents and lighting are warm yellows and oranges. Most of the decor so far means a lot to me, from my favourite albums to family memories to some of my drawings. As I don't (plan to) see myself ending up with a lady in my life anytime soon I'm trying to make this a space just for me. I love cooking, I love music so those things take priority, hence the smaller bed and no massive TV. The couch is just there because it was already there, I hate it but it does hide the unpacked stuff nicely lmao It's taking some time getting used to the goat sounds, and there's also 2 airports relatively close, so it's pretty chaotic a lot of times, but also it's free and I can do what I want so 🤷 Next up is making it more cozy and decorated, expanding the studio and getting a new desk and sitting area. The sleeping area also desperately needs some love! Since it's on the top floor of the barn (there's 2 floors) I've named it "Penthouse Golden Goat" (but in old Dutch) Any more ideas? I'm open to anything! For those wondering about the smell I'll copy my comment from below: "Sometimes, unfortunately. The goats themselves smell okay (funnily enough they smell like how goats cheese tastes. I hope I didn't ruin it for you) But they clear out the gutters that collect their manure once a week so when the time comes there's a decently strong ammonia smell. But the owner has been working on making everything more smell proof. I also burn tons of incense and smoke loads of weed so I usually don't even notice because the room already smells very strong lmao" As for how I ended up here (record scratch): "Long story short, my parents are freelance farmers. Meaning, they run someone elses farm, but get to live there as well as get a salary. No living expenses etc. When a farmer wants to retire, doesn't have someone to take over the business and selling isn't worth it, they'll usually do an arrangement like this. Usually you'll get a house, but this time it was a little apartment building attached to the barns. I'd just moved back home after a breakup and was planning to move out again when they applied for this place. And with how fucked the housing market here is, this is an opportunity that's too good not to take. Unless I'd find a roommate (quite hard here) or get into another relationship (no thanks) renting a place would cost me half my income and buying isn't even an option. So yeah, I share a building with my parents, they live downstairs lmao. But we all have our own utilities and kitchen and bathrooms etc. So I technically live at home with mom and dad, but not really" submitted by /u/GinkgoForest420 to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

Looking for advise on my living room
Looking for advise on my living room. Overall I believe it might be a tad too dark. I'm a fan of midcentury modern and dark woods. Considering the following changes: (1) Get a light gray area rug, reupholster accent chairs (3) Get a sofa cover for the couch. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Dining Room Still Feels Incomplete
Very happy with our living room post-renovation, but the adjacent dining area still feels somewhat incomplete. Could it use a different table? Circular rug? Window treatments? Bigger art? (I’m no expert). EDIT: Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS to everyone for the super thoughtful comments and suggestions. I came here unsure about a rug and left with strong feelings about window treatments (the dining room will be better for it). In a week where the news has been…gestures broadly…this was a good reminder that Reddit remains one of the few good corners of the internet. Area rug with existing colours in living room
Our current area rug was ruined by our sick cat (spot the cone’d cat in the photo) and I’m looking for a replacement. Ignoring existing artwork and textiles, which rug do you prefer? I’m inclined to select the dark amber one (last photo), but I’m concerned it’ll be too much of the warm wood tone (on ceiling, fireplace, and similar teak bookshelf). I would be least likely to pick the first one. These are all Loloi x rugs seen on “Rugsdirect.com” Appreciate your opinion on the rug selection - I might end up choosing none of the above. submitted by /u/Key-Air8278 to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

Me and my wife are begging for help here with what area rug is needed to tie in our couch set!!
Hi reddit, my wife begged me to post pictures of our new living room (just moving in!) that we are trying to make work with these kind of insane antique couches we found. The couch patterns are obviously loud and busy and we have no idea how to tie all this stuff together. We just got this “red” and “gold” rug that looks nothing like we thought it would, it looks like it was dragged through mud. What color rug should we be looking at?? Does any of this work? Should we look for a solid color? Maybe a circle one? We like the white and black egyptian style rug next to the record player to break the room up (the reading area) and a big book case will be filling the wall adjacent to the radiator we don’t have yet. Begging for some opinions here!! I attached close up pictures of the couches and also a different rug we tried so you can wrap your head around it maybe? Thank you so very much for literally any comments. We just left such a hell hole and really badly want to make this space classy and cosy and most importantly- make sense and look good submitted by /u/ohyeahokayalright to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Am I wrong trying to keep this "too big rug" for my living room?
I moved recently and it is a small living room. I bought the area rug 8x10 and it is too big, now I have a wall-to-wall carpet in which I don't hate it, as I believe unified the weird layout. The sofa is 80" although a love seat would've work better. I'm relying on accent details to bring everything together (coffee table, a side chair, floor lamp, wall art, tall plant). Tell me if I'm wrong trying to keep this big rug (carpet effect) with the current layout. It works or look odd? should I go for a smaller one for it to be an actual area rug? Last image it is an adjacent wall where it is going to be the dining room area for a better perspective of the room. I appreciate your feedback and suggestions. submitted by /u/Motor-Buyer-7132 to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

AIO for threatening to take my sister to court after her toddler destroyed my $2,000 gaming setup because she said I should’ve “baby-proofed my apartment”?
Hi Reddit. I’m F25 and I’m honestly at my breaking point with this one. I need outside perspective because my entire family is acting like I’m Hitler for standing my ground. So, I (25F) am a student software developer and a pretty serious PC gamer in my free time. I live alone in a one-bedroom apartment that I’ve spent years making cozy and functional. I saved up for a long time to build my dream PC setup … triple monitors, custom mechanical keyboard, ergonomic chair, the works. Altogether, my rig is worth a bit over $2,000, and I take care of it like it’s a damn child. Last weekend, my older sister (30F) asked if she could crash at my place for one night because her apartment was being fumigated, and her husband was out of town. She has a 3-year-old son, Max, who’s… let’s say “spirited.” I love him, but he’s a little chaos goblin. I hesitated, but she swore she’d keep an eye on him and that it’d just be for one night. They show up Saturday afternoon, and immediately it’s clear she wasn’t kidding about Max being a handful. Within ten minutes of arriving, he’d pulled four books off my shelf, thrown my houseplants on the floor, and spilled juice on my area rug. I tried to stay chill, he’s three, I get it … but I asked my sister politely to please keep him out of my office, where my PC setup is. She rolls her eyes and goes, “He’s just exploring, he’s curious, it’s normal.” But she closes the office door anyway. Cut to Sunday morning. I wake up to screaming. Max had apparently woken up before his mom, managed to open the office door, and decided my setup was his new jungle gym. He pulled down one of my monitors, cracking the screen. He stuck crackers into the PC tower’s ventilation slots (I’m not kidding), yanked out my keyboard’s keycaps, and had colored on my chair with permanent marker. The cherry on top? He poured apple juice INTO the tower. INTO IT. When I tell you I went silent… I mean dead silent. My sister comes in, sees the damage, and just says, “Oh nooo,” in this incredibly flat tone, like someone knocked over a cup of coffee. I start freaking out, and she has the AUDACITY to say, “You should’ve baby-proofed the room if it was that important to you.” I lost it. I told her that 1) she KNEW he wasn’t supposed to be in there, 2) this is my space, not a damn daycare, and 3) baby-proofing a $2,000 gaming setup is not a standard requirement for adults living alone. She told me to “calm down” and said that “he’s just a kid, and stuff is replaceable.” I told her she could replace it then. She said she didn’t have the money right now, but maybe in a few months she could give me a few hundred. I told her that wasn’t acceptable and that she needed to take full responsibility. She left in a huff and now my whole family is blowing up my phone. My mom says I’m being “materialistic” and should understand that my nephew didn’t mean it. My dad said I should’ve “locked the door” if it was that important. My brother actually said, “Why do you even need three monitors anyway? That’s kind of overkill.” I’ve filed a claim with my insurance but there’s no guarantee it’ll be covered since it was technically “guest damage.” I also told her that if she does not pay up, I'll take her to court for what happened. Now I’m getting texts from my sister demanding an apology for “blaming her kid for being curious.” I told her I’d drop it if she covered the cost of repairs and replacements … or at least met me halfway … and she BLOCKED me. So… Am I overreacting if I take my sister to court over this? UPDATE: Wow. Just wow. Four hours later, I wake up from my nap to this. Thank you guys, it'll take a bit for me to read all of this. My sister still has not unblocked me, but her husband reached out to find out what happened. I'm sorry I don't have more to tell yet, but I'll update again when I do. Seriously, thanks for the insights everyone. My head is a lot clearer now ❤️ UPDATE2: Hey all. My sister’s husband reached out as mentioned earlier, and we’re working out a solution if possible. He’s been really understanding as have all of you. Also, to clarify the office situation: my one-bedroom apartment is on the smaller side (33m2/355sq ft?), so the landlord converted an old ex-clothes cabinet into a makeshift ’office.’ It’s weird, but the building is from the 40s, and ig they had to get creative with the space with an old tenant or something. So its living room (sister and her kid slept there) + kitchen (i slept there) + the ’office.’ Thanks for all the support. And the award. I really don't have the words for how nice people have been in both DMs and the comments. ❤️🩹 submitted by /u/Ok-Jelly-6298 to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my husband he has to sleep on the floor for a week?
My husband convinced me to go see his parents for a week in another state. I had 2 reasons for not wanting to. For one, I just had a baby 1.5 months ago, I have PPD and I'm really still not up to par. I don't want to be around anyone, his mom especially, because I find it exhausting. And for two, they have an unruly Rottweiler that they have zero control over. He's not aggressive but he's destructive, jumps on people and barks excessively. So I didn't want to go at all but he assured me that we would be staying in a hotel and all would be well. There's only 2 hotels within a 1.5hr radius (deep wooded area in Maine) and I reminded him/asked him several times if he booked the hotel. He said he was handling everything and to stop worrying so much. So anyways, we got to Maine last night and low and behold, the hotel closed it's office doors at 8pm (it's a bed and breakfast and the owners live in the house, and it's advertised as "all doors closed by 8pm" right on their website, which I didn't know). We didn't get there until 10 because he was catching up with his family. We end up back at his parents house and they give us the guest room. I brought the babies bassinet so I set that up and we go to bed. Well, the next morning their unruly dog came in and pissed ALL over the bassinet. Luckily my baby was not on it. So I'm fucking pissed and tell my husband to bring me to the hotel because I'm 2 seconds from losing my cool (I told him to shut the door when he came out and he didn't do it's his fault). Well, he drives me to the hotel and low and behold, he didn't book in advance so there's no vacancy. He said he "assumed" there would be openings because of how back woods it is. So I call the only other hotel (1.5 hrs away) and nope, they're booked too. I told him I just want to go home at this point but he refuses and says we can just stay at his parents. I told him "fine but you're sleeping on the floor the entire time". I told him I won't be putting our baby in that bassinet, considering we can't clean it without a rug cleaner of sorts, which his parents don't have. And I told him he's not sleeping in the bed with me and the baby because the bed is a double and I don't trust that one of us won't roll over on the baby and therefore, she needs her own side of the bed. Since he's the reason we are in this position, he will be the one making the sacrifice and sleeping on the floor. He tried arguing before going to bed tonight that he should be able to sleep on the bed too and that I should just sleep with the baby in my arms, like I do when we have contact naps during the day. I told him that wasn't happening. 1hr naps is much different than a full night's sleep and I don't trust myself for that long to sleep with her in my arms. Especially not being this exhausted. Before going to sleep, he said I was being a "fucking dick" and apparently "punishing him" for wanting to see his family and accusing me of trying to sabotage his trip. submitted by /u/Low_Needleworker_467 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA for moving back furniture that was rearranged without my permissions?
Alt account for privacy. My wife and 2 kids and I live far away from both of our families - like, 6-9 hour flight far. The grandparents visit several times a year, usually a few weeks at a time. We get along well with all of them, tho there is tension between my wife and her mom & stepdad more than the others. She does, however, like their decorating taste, so she often rearranges stuff at our house when they're around. (It's led a fight before when she sorta used them to do stuff I explicitly said I didn't want, but we're over that now.) Our general agreement is that I manage my family and she manages hers, so we don't put each other in awkward situations of fighting with the other's parents. Last time they were here, my wife and I took a multiday trip, since the only time we can do anything without the kids is when grandparents are visiting. After we came back, my in-laws had rearranged a few things in the house, of which one really made me angry. Our kitchen/dining/living room is an open space in the shape of a rectangle, except with a corner "cut off," so it really has 5 sides. I had our living room rug placed so it was aligned with the 4 major walls, because that way all the kids' play areas were soft. Because the kids mess with it and because toys kept getting under it and tripping people, I used loads of double-sided tape to get the rug where I wanted it - I mean, it was clamped down hard. However, the couch is along the angled wall, and apparently they didn't like that the rug was at an angle to it, so they removed it, including all the tape, and angled it so it is aligned with the couch and nothing else. There were gaps where the kids play (so it's colder & harder), and one corner reached into the dining room, so the chairs constantly snag on it and people spill food or drink in that area. They said (as they always do) "oh if you don't like it you can move it back." Thanks for giving me a few hours of work, but I didn't say anything then. (My wife didn't comment, but that could mean she didn't want a fight with them...or with me.) Before they left, they took a day trip with my wife and the kids while I had some work to do. Once I finished I realized that the only time I'll have the house empty for a few hours is now, so I moved all the furniture off, realigned the rug, and placed it where I wanted it. When they came back they were upset that I had changed it back, and my wife was mad at me for doing it while they were still in town. She agreed that there would never be a time to do it when they're not but said it could wait until the next grandparents visit us (which hasn't been scheduled yet, so it's probably months away). I think I was entitled to take my ILs on the offer to put it back if I didn't like it, since they did this without asking and it was clear from the mass of tape that I didn't put the rug there lightly, but AITA for not waiting until they were gone? submitted by /u/sawdustaccount to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA: For removing an expensive white rug from the room when a friend came to visit with her toddler?
So for context I like kids I just don't trust them..to me they are a ticking time bomb for a mess. Never had any of my own so my experience is limited. I was expecting my friend who live out of town to come over for a quick visit as she was passing through with her husband. As soon as they arrived I greeted them and said hello to the new member of their family. Initial greetings went well and the kid (10 months old) had a candy in his hand and all over his face. No big deal kids are messy. Seeing this I said something along the lines of "Whoops I better get this out of the way" in a happy voice to the kid and moved my coffee table and rolled up my rug and set it in the other room. When I returned to offer my guests some juice or coffee they my friend was visibly upset and asked why I thought they wouldn't be mindful of the rug. I straight up told them I didn't want accidental candy or drool on my rug as I don't think it will clean up easily. I explained that I got the rug in my travels in South America and the likelihood of getting another like it should anything happen to this one is next to impossible. The husband took it well but my friend glared at me asking if I thought she can't keep control of the kid. She said I was being a snob and dramatic with my expensive items (she pointed to my white custom made couch that I did remember to put a sheet over prior to their arrival just in case the kid wanted to sit there). Now..I just chalked this attitude up to her being tired after a long drive and sensitive of any critique her being a new mother so I did my best to keep the situation from getting any more awkward. I pointed out that we now have a open/clear area for the kid to play in which should make for a easier visit. She wasn't having any of it. She was very curt for the entire short visit in my home and kept her kid nearby and constantly interrupting our talks to attend to him trying to get away from her. I guess she didn't want to let him roam around a little out of principle and he wanted to explore. I understood she was resentful of my actions. After they left I kinda sat there for a bit wondering if I came off snobbish or insulting. I tried to put myself in her shoes and I thought I would be grateful to have less things to worry about being damaged by my toddler and a free space being made for him to roam if I was visiting someone... but perhaps I'm missing something here. ....so here I am folks...AITA for protecting my items from a baby? Edit 1: Wow my first award! Thank you kind stranger Edit 2: Oh boy this is my first ever "blow up" post! Thank you for your support and confirming that I did the right thing. I'm not holding a grudge against my friend and she and her baby is welcome back at anytime. To the small group of people that called me an AH for not moving the rug prior to arrival I can only say until the child was there the rug didn't come to mind. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not perfect. submitted by /u/Throwaway-donotjudge to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
