Making athletic toe sock company
My twin brother and I are big into the barefoot lifestyle and both play professional basketball. We are creating an athletic toe sock company called KOPU. What are the improvements in toe socks people would like to see? Our aim is a more athletic “tech” style sock. Similar to the NBA sock. submitted by /u/Dependent_Love_9260 to r/BarefootRunning [link] [comments]

Does anyone wear thin athletic socks with Iron Rangers?
I went into the store today to pick up a pair of black Iron Rangers. I got fitted and found a pair that feel great length wise, but snug on the sides, with no heel slip. I expect them to break in great. The employee who was helping me saw that I was wearing thin athletic socks, and said I need to be wearing thick socks when wearing leather boots. I wear the same Sockguy SGX athletic socks with soccer cleats, cycling shoes, hockey skates, skate shoes, and sneakers. I am fully willing to swap to thicker socks if need be, but I would like to keep wearing my favorite socks if I can. Does anyone wear athletic socks with leather boots? The employee seemed pretty sure I would end up having a bad experience. Just want to know if anyone else has a differing view. Edit: to be clear, the socks I use are crew socks, just very thin and made with some compression. I don't plan on wearing ankle socks with these, though based on these responses it sounds more common than I would have thought. submitted by /u/San_Jose_Is_My_City to r/RedWingShoes [link] [comments]

Am I overreacting for vetoing cupcakes sprinkled with ‘Eau de Athlete’s Foot’?
I told my boyfriend’s coworkers I’d make them Oreo cupcakes for Christmas (they picked the flavor), partly as a thank-you for letting him take a late break to help me get my meds. I bought mini Oreos to use as decoration and to crush into the batter. I told my boyfriend he could have some, but not a lot. Well… he ended up eating a ton of them and then left the open package under his desk next to his dirty socks. I told him there is no way I’m feeding those to anyone else after that, and he told me he doesn’t think it’s a big deal. He also has athlete’s foot SO BAD. Like… absolutely not. I’m not serving people cupcakes made with sock-aged Oreos. Edit for context: I’m not trying to shame my boyfriend. He grew up with very few in-person friends and mostly online friendships, so he didn’t really learn certain social or hygiene expectations the way most people do. His mom also didn’t really teach or model this stuff for him, so some things that seem “obvious” to others just… weren’t taught to him. I posted this because he genuinely doesn’t understand why this is a big deal, and I needed outside perspectives so he could hear that this isn’t a normal or safe thing to do. I just wanted to show him I’m not being dramatic — this is a basic hygiene issue, especially when food is for other people. submitted by /u/AvaLeeMin to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

AITAH for telling my brother he cannot stay with me over Christmas if he brings his prosthetic leg? ( 2 Year New Update)
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/Appropriate_Elk_2603 AITAH for telling my brother he cannot stay with me over Christmas if he brings his prosthetic leg? Originally posted to r/AITAH Thanks to u/Lynavi u/stealmymemesitsOk u/soayherder u/queenlegolas & u/Choice-Evidence1983 for letting me know this updated BoRU 1 TRIGGER WARNING: theft, manipulation, ableism Original Post Dec 24, 2023 My younger brother has a prosthetic leg. I think it is creepy AF and I have no idea where he got it. I'm reasonably certain that it is something I would rather not know. To be clear here my brother has two perfectly healthy legs still attached to his body. He just has this thing he takes with him everywhere. I don't know why, I don't want to know. Before you ask yeah it is probably a mental health thing. He wanted to stay with me rather than our parents while he is home for the holidays. I said he was welcome to stay so long as he doesn't bring that thing into my house. He said it wasn't a big deal and that he would leave it in his luggage. I agreed on the condition that if I saw it outside of his luggage in my home then I had the right to destroy it. He backtracked on staying with me and is at our parents house. Where he is miserable. They still treat him like a little boy instead of a guy who is almost 30. He called me again after supper and asked to please stay with me. I said he could so long as we, together, took his thing and put it into a storage unit until he leaves. I get the key. He won't do it. He says that I'm being a bitch for not letting him stay with me. I think he needs to get therapy or medication. Or both. Or a girlfriend. Boyfriend. Dog. Cat. Hamster. Something. Just not a GD prosthetic leg. RELEVANT COMMENTS/TOP COMMENTS danuhorus I'm a prosthetist and I have to ask: What does this leg even look like? Below knee or above knee? Does it just have the pylon bare, or is there a foam covering so that it sorta looks like a leg? Is there a foot shell on it, or is the foot component just sorta... hanging out? The reason I'm asking is because A) prosthetic anything is mindboggingly expensive, and B) you can't just 'have' a prosthetic leg if you have two perfectly healthy legs. You literally need a stump to make one that's specifically yours. Did your brother receive it from someone? Did he steal it????? And just to be sure, it's an actual prosthesis and not a leg brace of some kind? I've had patients and their families make that mistake before. OOP It looks like a carbon fiber cup with a steel knee and lower leg and foot. danuhorus Oh jesus. AK prostheses are NOT cheap, that's an entire car right there. I would actually grill your bro on where he got it, because it is 100% NOT his. If he stole it, he's looking at felony/grand theft charges. If he bought it, check his and your parents financials because again: these things are insanely expensive and he doesn't sound like the brightest bulb. MAKE SURE HE DOES NOT TRY TO SELL THE PROSTHESIS OR ANY OF ITS COMPONENTS. I get that they can be hard to get for the people who need them the most, but if the components are damaged in any way, they can lead to gnarly injuries for when they inevitably fail. If you truly do want to get rid of it, there are organizations out there that will take old prostheses and refurbish them. ~ ApollymisDIL An emotional support prosthetic leg, that's a new one Fantastic_Warning389 Her brother won it in a raffle, and it came all the way from France in a crate marked "fragile." The leg is actually a lamp, and it wears a black fishnet stocking, a black high heel shoe, and a fringed lamp shade. ~ Kris1986 I know this is extremely distressing for you but I’m laughing so hard. At first I was like is this A H serious? She won’t let her brother bring his leg? Like his whole ass leg he needs to walk because he literally lost a leg in some horrible accident but then you clarified both his healthy legs are still attached and I lost it. NTA but you and I are NOT the same. I would NEED to know. All of it. Where did you get it? Why do you have it? What do you do with it? Did you steal it off a bum or something? Then I would stare at him uncomfortably until he broke and told it all to me. I may later regret my decision but I don’t often think that far into the future when something catches my attention AdventurousRevolt You and I are the same! Follow up questions- Does the person who it belonged to know you have it? Did they die? have you named the leg yet?! What’s their name? What’s their pronouns???! Do you sleep and cuddle with it? Does it bruise you since it’s not soft or cuddly. Are you in a relationship with a leg? Do you take the leg on dates? Do you buy them Xmas presents? DO THEY HAVE A FAVORITE TYPE OF SOCK I NEED TO KNOW So many many manyyyyyy questions. mecha_face What is the leg's LIFE STORY ~ 4me2knowit You’re pulling my leg? Right? Razzmatazz-88 No, it's the left one. ~ TwistedElegance69 Does the leg have aspirations of being a sexy lamp when it grows up? UPDATE on my brother and "his" prosthetic leg. Jan 4, 2024 I didn't realize how much attention this was going to get. Enough that someone informed the woman my brother stole it from, and she was able to figure out what happened. She called the cops and he got arrested. I guess he was sort of trying to do the thing where he could be the hero that tracked down her leg. Please don't ask me what the fuck was going through his head. The leg was expensive enough that he is facing real criminal charges. That's all. Sorry there is not more to tell. TOP COMMENTS gold-magikarp I remember reading this originally and wondering why the hell he needed to take that leg around everywhere with him. I feel like he would have returned it way sooner if he wanted to "play the hero"... Viperbunny He quite literally wanted her to come crawling to him. He wanted her to feel as vulnerable as possible so that she would need him. I was medically abused by my mom. Sadly, this kind of behavior isn't new to me. As I have gone no contact and been through therapy, it all becomes more clear. My mom has an untreated personality disorder. They want you to believe that they are the only ones who care and the only ones to be able to take care of said person. They want them to be as helpless as possible. Sounds like he picked the wrong lady to try that crap on! ~ Potential_Speech_703 That's wild.. I wonder why he wanted to bring it with him though. Is he obsessed with the woman and has to carry the leg with him all the time? I mean stealing it is one thing but why carry it around all the time?! If he tried to be a hero he could have hid it. Sounds more like a weird obsession..? I don't think he wanted to give it back to be the hero. I've so many questions. But I'm glad the woman will get her leg back. This is something I never thought I would ever say.. ~ SassyPieHole03 This is the most bizarre update I ever read. And I'm totally here for it! glasswindbreaker I didn't think it could get more bizarre than the original post but here we are ~ OriginalDogeStar At least with all that evidence, he doesn't have a leg to stand on...... I am going to show myself out Hat, coat, door... curlytoesgoblin Sounds like he really stepped in it NEW UPDATE Update 2: On why I didn't let my brother stay with me if he brought his prosthetic leg. Nov 25, 2025 So it's finally over. My brother had to go to court after being charged with several crimes the most serious being felony theft. I will just put the bullet points of results. Found guilty because he was too stupid to take a plea deal. Had to serve some time incarcerated and now has parole. Managed to avoid being charged with a seggs crime. My parents paid to have the leg reconditioned or whatever it's called. A professional prosthetic devices mechanic got it back in working condition. The woman got her leg back as well as some money in restitution. He is not welcome at my home with or without any prosthetics for the foreseeable future. The woman has a restraining order against him indefinitely. That's all there is to tell. Hope this answers everyone's questions. Thanks for still caring about this weird experience in my life. BEST COMMENT dawgpoundma Ok yall this is going to sound crazy but a buddy of mine was playing in the surf about waist deep at the beach. All of a sudden he screams like a little girl. Turns out a leg hit him in the chest. He freaked thinking it was a body nope just a prosthetic leg. He realizes what is it when his brain turns back on and pulls it out of the surf to the beach. Of course his son thought it was cool as heck and wanted to keep it! Now thankfully for him he used his brain and sent his son down to grab a lifeguard and the deputy that was on beach patrol. He did ask the deputy if they found the owner if they would let him know and he gave them his number. Couple of days later he got a call a young lady had been surfing a couple of miles further up the beach. She had a bad wipe out and clip that held the leg broke and she lost the leg. Apparently this wasn’t a normal prosthetic it was designed for heavy athletic and water use. She thought it was gone for good and was very expensive as this wasn’t something insurance paid for. She was thrilled to have it back and it was being refurbished after being submerged in salt water for almost 48 hours. She and her family took my friend and his family out to dinner as a reward for finding it. They have continued to stay in touch and she is amazing young lady. She lost the leg due to cancerous tumor. Now nothing slows her down, she does everything an able bodied person can do only thing is they added another clip that ties with 10ft bungee cord to her surfboard in case it was to come off again it would remain attached to surfboard. Athlete’s foot living in socks?
My itchy-foooted spouse swears that his socks retain the athlete’s foot fungus even after all my careful attention to laundry. He says his feet begin to itch immediately when he puts on a pair of clean socks. Is this true? (the retained fungus issue, not the claim of itching feet) He does treat his feet with some kind of OTC cream that seems to help, if not resolve, the itch. Any ideas on how to get the itch out of the sock? submitted by /u/Vast-Supermarket-987 to r/laundry [link] [comments]

Learning how to play hockey as a 43 yo woman 😬
I found out this past summer that I have Type 2 Diabetes (I know, not great, and I own my part in it), and I thought it would be a great idea to pick up a fun activity that would encourage me to be more active in my pursuit to improve my health. My husband played hockey starting at age 14 and also coached peewee hockey for a number of years until his health issues sidelined him in 2012. I didn’t meet him until 2014 when he was no longer able to play or coach, so I had never seen that side of him. We basically treated him as a science experiment for 10 years to get him back to playing hockey, and now he’s been a mentor player on a D league team for the last year and a half (he is a VERY skilled defenseman, but his energy levels just won’t allow him to keep up with C league, and he would pay for it in terms of recovery and functionality for days afterwards). I LOVE watching him play and couldn’t be more proud of him for how hard he worked to get here. I almost cried the first time I saw him skate because he was like a duck in water, and it was like this new puzzle piece just clicked into place. So I came up with the bright idea that I would learn to play hockey at 43 years old. They say you’re never too old to learn, so I’m going to put that to the test. My ultimate goal is to play on my husband’s D league team next fall. We bought the gear (🤑 ouch!), which was a challenge in itself because let’s face it, I am a short and wide woman, and hockey gear is not really made for me. Other than shin pads that are just a bit too long because junior sizes won’t go around my wide calves, we are making it work. Plus I get to add accents of my favorite color purple wherever I want (not pictured are my purple skate laces and socks). 💜 I know I am fortunate to have such a supportive husband when there are some guys who gate keep hockey as “their thing” and resent their wives for encroaching on their me time (someone posted about that here recently). I have the best and most patient coach at home, so I know I am in great hands. We’ve been rollerblading and working on dry land passing and shooting, and we’ve also been to a few public skate sessions. It’s been so cool to see that I actually have some athletic skills and aptitude for the game, and I don’t look like a wobbly baby deer on the ice. 😆 I rollerbladed a ton as a kid, so that helps, but I never played in any organized sport. I’m starting Learn to Skate Hockey classes tomorrow, and I’m really excited. I don’t even care if I look ridiculous showing up in my full gear to a class with a bunch of kids. If I have to skate in the gear for games, I might as well get used to it from the beginning, right? The next goal is to continue getting as much ice time as possible and working on increasing endurance, losing weight (almost 40 lbs gone so far), and improving my blood sugar (A1C went from 11.7 to 7.0 in three months), and then I’ll sign up for a 20-week Core Skills Clinic in March. Feel free to impart any helpful advice and wish me luck! 🍀 submitted by /u/spooniewife to r/hockeyplayers [link] [comments]

Anything really is possible.
Two years ago, I was over 400 lbs - on Saturday I completed my 3rd triathlon and first 70.3 (IM NC) If someone had told me then that I’d complete a triathlon, let alone a 70.3, I wouldn’t have believed it. It was an amazing race, and I’m super happy with the result! Splits and thoughts below: Swim: 31:50 The athlete briefing said to seed yourself based on your non current assisted time, for me that’s around 40 minutes. I went with the 40-43 minute swimmers - I wish had seeded myself earlier, it was very crowded and ended up bumping into a lot of folks. Still, blazing fast swim, and I felt smooth and fast, all while keeping my HR under control. T1: 9:11 IMNC has a .4ish mile jog to T1, with a lot of congestion along the way. They do have wetsuit peelers though, that was very nice - unzipped my top half along the jog, sat my butt on the mat and the lovely volunteers had it off almost instantly. I was worried about being cold on the bike, so I laid out gloves and put arm warmers on my acrobats so I could slip them on. I decided I wouldn’t need them, I pulled them off and stuffed in my T1 bag along with my wetsuit. Ate a gel, threw my helmet and glasses on, socks and shoes… grabbed my bike and uh oh… I must have flung my wireless blips on the ground when I removed the arm warmers. Probably took around 1.5 minutes to find and reattach. Bike: 2:41:27 I had a plan to ride by power, and I guess with the other 4000 ant+ devices around, my power meter didn’t want to play nice. Rode the first 15 or so miles with just HR/Cadence and RPE. I was behind A LOT of bikes because of where I seeded myself on the swim - this really slowed me down as I was constantly passing, or being blocked by someone else passing. Finally broke out of most of the packs of people around mile 40. Hit a nice tailwind and I was flying! T2: 3:36 Elastic laces are a great investment. Took an extra 30 seconds to dig some extra salt tabs out my transition bag. Should have been prepared with more. Run: 2:00:26 You shouldn’t get new bike shoes and pedals less than two weeks before your race. After the first couple miles I had a ton of pain in my feet. Hamstrings started cramping, quads started burning… abandoned my plan to negative split my run. I just had to lock in around 145 bpm (Low Z3 for me), as I knew I could keep that up. I feel pretty confident if I had pushed much more on the run my legs would have gave out. Picked up the pace a little in the last couple miles, nothing impressive, but had just enough for a little sprint down the finisher chute. Total 5:26:28 What an experience and rush crossing that finish line. submitted by /u/theBryanDM to r/triathlon [link] [comments]

The movie the Long walk was completely ridiculous.
As someone who has run marathons and hiked for months straight (on pacific crest trail) I couldn't take this movie seriously. Stephen King must have never walked more than 5 miles in his life. The same goes for anybody taking this movie seriously. You have 18 year old guys who haven't done any serious athletic training (that we know about), and they casually walk a distance that would put the most elite endurance athletes in the world to shame. In jeans. And leather work boots and tennis shoes. And button-up shirts. After 25 miles, most of their feet would have serious blisters. At 50, they would be bloody messes, and at 100+ miles, those appendages would be would no longer be recognizable as feet. Let alone 200 miles. 300 miles. Lol. Not to mention exhsustion and fatigue. At 150+ miles, the walkers are still spontaneously breaking out and skipping, games of catch, and having whitty conversations. After being awake for days of non-stop walking. Their feet would be long gone, and so would their calves, thighs...it was ridiculous The main character white dude walked what, 80+ miles in socks. It's too much. I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to keep from breaking out laughing everything the mileage after 100 miles flashed on the screen. Did anybody else feel this way? Other than the cheesy themes and ending, I would rather enjoy the acting, but it wasn't enough to save the movie. By day 2, the walkers should have been disheveled, limping, messes.... Edit: typed on phone, spelling. Edit 2: Fiction still has to make sense, redditors. If Gandald was fighting orcs and being overwhelmed and then X-wing ti fighters from Star Wars dropped in and started basting Orcs, it would make no sense. Because it's not realistic for the LOTR World. submitted by /u/-HuckleBerry-Finn to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

How are you preparing to participate in the economy as little as possible in the next four years?
One way I and my chosen family are planning on protesting the next four years is to buy as little as possible. I would love to hear any ideas you guys have to reduce your spending/completely disconnect yourself from the economy. Understand these may not be accessible to everyone, and take what is practical for your life. Food: we have chickens for eggs and a small food forest, and have plans to expand. Very limited to no dining out, use up gift cards and go to local small places. Bulk shopping and meal prepping go a long way. We've already bought giant bags of rice, flour, etc in anticipation of price hikes Clothing: I am planning to go as close to 100% no buy on new clothing as I can. Aside from underwear, socks, and athletic shoes, I plan to thrift for any other clothing I need unless I absolutely must buy something (like a bridesmaid dress). Organize a clothing swap and learn more basic clothing repair skills Travel: Absolutely no travel to red states, reduce gas usage as much as possible. Cosmetics: Mentioned because this is something I spend a lot of discretionary income on. For all necessary hygiene items, I want to only replace empties, one in one out. For makeup, I plan to 100% no buy as long as I can aside from mascara. Entertainment: Brutally cut down on subscriptions. Spending time with friends is free, so is going on a walk, using the library, and using something you already have (like playing a game that's in your library or using up craft supplies) Health: I am scheduled for an IUD that will put me through the presidency. Moderate exercise and eating well. Taking care of my teeth and taking care not to injure myself. Getting all vaccines needed and checkups done now. Making sure all that is arranged for family and pets. Gifts: Small gifts from local independent artists or product makers. Making handmade gifts and gifting products from the garden. tl;dr What are some ways you are able to fit low/no spend into your life? Edit: This got a lot more attention than I thought. To the MAGA folk, I have no quarrel with you and no I don't think I'm going to personally have any impact on the economy. I am just choosing to increase my frugality, support local and and decrease my contribution to climate destroying, unethically made billionaire spreadsheets. I am choosing to do the things I was already doing, but more intentionally, to live more within my values. I would encourage anyone to examine their values and do the same. submitted by /u/Saelyn to r/TwoXPreppers [link] [comments]

AIO - Husband thinks it’s overkill to keep socks on when dealing with athletes foot
My husband is refusing to require our teenager to wear socks in the house while we’re treating his athletes foot. We discovered he had athletes foot, had him shower and apply lomotrin. I swept and mopped the floors using diluted bleach. Fifteen minutes later our teenager is walking barefoot on the hardwood. Keep in mind he’s just started treating the athletes foot. Am I overreacting for being concerned that he is walking barefoot before the infection has cleared? I caught ringworm from my husband once and don’t ever want it again, nor do I want our toddler to catch it. I’m not talking about requiring socks forever, just for like, a few days. Husband thinks I’m being overkill. submitted by /u/howmadz to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

OOP notices friend's bare feet, asks for skin care regimen, and discovers that he had a skin infection for more than 30 years.
I am NOT OP. Original post by u/takatori in r/tifu ETA - Random cute pic of a dog & cat for mobile users who don't want to see feet. Hope this helps. ORIGINAL POST + UPDATES - 28th June 2021 During puberty, the body goes through many changes as a boy becomes a man. The voice deepens, musculature increases, genitals grow and gain hair, a beard and moustache come in, and the feet develop a hard, protective crust. All natural physical development. Or so I had assumed until this weekend, when our "pod" got together at the beach for a little summer fun. I've always enjoyed walking barefoot on the beach, as the gritty sand tends to wear down the thicker calluses and slough off shedding skin layers. Sometimes I would even use a pumice stone to sand them down thinner so that they wouldn't tear up socks as badly as when left natural. Now, I've never really paid attention to feet, never really looked at them closely or had a fetish for them like you hear about, so even with partners playing with their feet just wasn't something I ever did. I've seen women's feet in movies like the toes scene in The Big Lebowski, but assumed women just have softer feet than men. I probably had plenty of opportunities to see other mens' feet at the pool or gym showers, or wherever, but without having really any interest in feet, I can't say I've looked closely at anyone's feet, ever. But on this day, one of my guy friends was wearing bright purple nail polish. It caught my eye, naturally, and it occurred to me that somehow his toenails were long and flat, like fingernails, not white and bunched up like toenails. And his protective calluses were almost missing! Not the sanded-down smooth appearance from walking in sand or using a pumice stone, but virtually absent altogether! I wondered if this meant he didn't often walk barefoot, and so never developed them, or if he had some method better to sand them down. So I asked, "Hey, I noticed your nail polish, your new style?" "Ha, no, my daughter wanted to practice, and couldn't say no!" "I couldn't help notice how flat your toenails are, and you have almost no calluses -- do you use some sort of special cream or trimmer to get them to look like that?" "No, they're just normal feet." "But you don't have any calluses on the bottom. Normal feet have calluses to protect them when walking on hard or rough surfaces." And showed my foot as an example. "Um, wow," he said, "how long have you had that? Are you taking any medicine?" "Taking medicine? For what? These are just normal feet with normal calluses." "No, no they're not, that's like the worst case of athlete's foot I've ever seen. How long have you had it?" "I don't know what you mean ... my feet have always been like this ... this is just how feet are. ... isn't it?" "No, not at all. That's foot disease. It's some sort of fungal infection. There's medicine for it. Have you never heard of athlete's foot?" Yes, I had heard of athlete's foot. From TV commercials advertising creams to treat it. But they never showed pictures of it, nobody had ever told me what it was, and nobody for over thirty years after I went through puberty mentioned that there was anything at all wrong with my feet. Never has a doctor mentioned it to me. Never has a partner mentioned it to me. Never has a coach mentioned it to me. Never has anyone mentioned it to me. I just thought that's how feet are. Epilogue: with the obligatory "this happened two weeks ago," I immediately visited a dermatologist the next business day, got a diagnosis and medication, and my feet are already halfway through a magical transformation. It's incredible. TL;DR: While going through puberty my feet developed thick calluses and I thought this was a normal part of growing up. Nobody ever told me my feet looked strange, I never compared my feet to others, and I never realized anything was wrong with my feet until asking a friend how they made theirs so smooth and they told me I had athlete's foot for thirty years. UPDATE: Since everyone is asking for photos, I've uploaded in-progress treatment photos here. The first photo is of my toenails, the second of my heel. All toenails used to look like my little toe looks now. They are growing in flat and translucent now. The pinkish areas on my heel and side of foot were also covered in the same white-yellow callus three weeks ago before seeing the doctor. And the callus was MUCH thicker and flakier. For illustration, the top picture in the Wikipedia article and the "side of foot" photo on the Mayo Clinic site are almost exactly what my feet looked like before. UPDATE 2: The medicine prescribed was Terbinafine, a prescription daily oral anti-fungal pill. It is apparently quite strong, requiring regular blood work to monitor liver function. The doctor expects it to take six months to be completely cured including new toenails growing out cleanly. The doctor took skin samples and ran tests to confirm it is indeed Athlete's Foot, not other similar conditions people have mentioned. NOTE: This is apparently a very powerful medication which as noted can affect liver function, and many pharmacists and others have commented to note that people taking it are not supposed to take paracemetol/acetaminophen or drink alcohol during the treatment. UPDATE 3: The kind redditor /u/berneealf wrote out a lengthy comment detailing a care regimen that mirrors a lot of the other good advice given in the various comment threads. Hopefully it helps! ETA the amazing comment by u/berneealf Alright my man, I have some advice you should read. I have fended off athlete's foot since I can remember and I have never had to use any ingested medicine. I think you should follow your doctor's advice, but that medicine may trash your liver. DO NOT take any other medicaments during this period without consulting with a doctor. Painkillers (ibuprofene, paracetamol, aspirine) are all synthesized in your liver. Combining them with Terbinafine can be really dangerous. Alcohol is also synthesized in your liver, I don't know if your doctor told you to suspend alcoholic beverages, but at least take it easy on the drinking. Now on to my personal treatment. Your feet look like a pretty advanced micotic infection, dermatrophyte fungi like the one you have require a damp environment to thrive. This may mean you have a case of hyperhidrosis AKA you're a sweaty bastard. Most people never develop micotic infections up to this point. The problem is, after you are done with your treatment and are dishcarged by your doctor, your feet will still be sweaty bastards, therefore you are prone to developing an infection again. That is not the only problem. Fungi spread through spores like plants spread through seeds. Spores are microscopical and airborne so they are likely everywhere in your closet (specially your shoes and socks). Sweaty feet + spores = relapse. How to combat it: This will not in any way hinder the treatment prescribed by your doctor, on the contrary, it is likely to accelerate your healing so you may drop the Terbinafine sooner. About 6 years ago, I read that the US army treats athlete's foot with vinegar. Soldiers have little choice for footwear and socks, so they repeat often and end up with damp feet, add that to comunal showers where spores spread from one foot to another and you end up with an institution that knows how to handle athlete's foot. Fungi cannot handle a strongly acidic or basic PH. Mix 1 part of white cooking vinegar and 1 part of water, soak your feet for 10 min daily and dry thouroughly. This treatment has worked wonders for me and it's easy and cheap. Purchase an over the counter anti micotic cream. There are many avaliable and they work well. Apply it once a day on clean feet. Spend as much time as possible barefoot. Airing prevents dampness. Last step: rub your feet with a callous remover once or twice a week, this will help you remove the dead skin that provides a perfect environment for fungus, and your feet will recover faster. That is it for my treatment, but you might want to think about addressing the spore situation (the fact that there are spores all over your closet). I'll be honest with this one, it hasn't worked for me. I enacted a very thorough closet cleanup twice in the past when I was sure I had no present infection. In the end the infection returned after some time (granted, a lot of time). So I ended up with a halfway solution. As I said, spores are microscopic and airborne so I wasn't able to eliminate them entirely (or I might have caught them soewhere else). The solution I came up with was using vinegar to kill the spores in my shoes and socks. Make a stronger mix than what you use on your feet (2 parts vinegar for 1 part water). And soak your shoes and socks everytime you wash them. Voila! You have succesfully hindered their reproductive cycle. Prevention of future infections: The most important step is to cycle your shoes, and have a wider assortment of shoes so you don't repeat often (hey you will also devolop a more fashionable closet). Overusing the same shoes leads to accelerating fungal development. Don't store your shoes in your closet when you take them off, give them one day to air-dry before storing. Prevent dampness by spending as much time as possible with bare feet, and applying talc on your shoes before putting them on. Check your feet: The fungus is very likely to return, but it will be very easy to get rid off if you catch it early. Early signs of infection are bad smell, itchyness, small lumps and redness in the skin. Keep one of those anti micotic creams and some white vinegar at hand. Once you notice an infection, you can effectively treat it in under a week with those 2 things. Keep an eye for itchyness on other parts of your body. Crotch-itch is caused by the same fungus as athlete's foot. In my case, I noticed that by using a special sponge just for my feet (I used to use 1 for all of my body) I greatly reduced breakouts on my face. Fucking fungus was givind me some acne. Well my friend I put some effort into writing this for you in hopes you will find it helpful. I'm thinking of turning this into a lifeprotip post where more people can share their treatments and tips. If you need any further sweaty bastard advice, I'm only happy to help. Putting your clothes on right out of the shower is better than drying your body off first.
It feels good to have the fabric stick against your skin. Water dripping down your neck and back while you pull a clean shirt on. Dry socks on wet feet. Pants on wet legs. It all just feels better! And when you dry, you dry naturally. EDIT: y’all are MAD!! Read through the comments! There’s plenty of us that do this! Merino wool is your friend! I wear sandals 90% of the time so I don’t suffer from athletes foot. I’ve never had jock rash. The clothes dry you- just like a towel. But it just takes a little longer!! Enjoy your musty, smelly, soggy towel! submitted by /u/i_like_it_raw_ to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]
