Thank you LJP I read your comment that you are preferring wide jeans to barrel. I am very slow to adapt to any change but once my eye adjusts I dislike the old stuff. I think I am slowly getting into wide jeans but still like barrels both are easier to style in summer. I struggled with these shapes wearing boots in winter.

Go up a size from your normal jeans. Get a belt with some stretch in it, like the Constantine belt. It sounds like you are already wearing stretch jeans, though I’m not familiar with those. Pulling your pants up before sitting helps too. Some holster manufacturers recommend a longer holster when carrying a gun with a short barrel for AIWB.

I think they look the best in the last photo (crop top and sneakers). Though my personal style leans more formal with clean lines. l've been seeing discourse in other fashion subreddits where people have been expressing their hate for barrel jeans. The general consensus on "do these barrel jeans look good on me" posts seems to often be a resounding no. I've been stewing on this one for a few weeks now- yes or no to Levi's Baggy Dad Barrel on me? Supposedly, it only works well on tall people, but if my unfashionable eyes aren't deceiving me, I think these wouldn't look horrible on me (after a little hemming). Bought my first pair of “barrel jeans” last week. Not going to lie, I had to look up what they were first because I’d never heard that term. I’m hooked. They are so much more comfy than skinny jeans and way more flattering. I’m a school bus driver, we start school on Tuesday and I feel like I did as a 14 year old when I got my first pair of in style jeans to start grade 9. This year our company gave us backpacks to hold all our gear and I walked out of there with it slung over one shoulder and my amazing jeans like a badass. If someone had blasted Take Me On on a boombox I think I would have busted a move right there beside my 43 foot yellow tin can and I wouldn’t have cared what anyone thought. I’d been holding onto this embroidered twill fabric for about two years with no idea what to do with it—until I decided to try making a pair of barrel-leg jeans I’ve been seeing everywhere. I love playing with structure, but I honestly wasn’t sure I’d get the shape right… until I tried them on to adjust the waist. And here we are! I started with a standard high-waisted straight-leg pants pattern, built from a basic pants sloper (Ribbons & Zippers tutorial), added a back yoke, and used Stanley Phan’s method for the pockets—making them about 7 inches deep. If that feels like too much drafting, you could start with any straight-leg jeans or slacks pattern and tweak it. Something like the Vikisews Britney Pants (minus the bottom darts) or the Closet Core Morgan Jeans (modified not to taper at the ankle) would work. For the barrel shape, I cut the legs about 10 inches longer than ankle length and added side panels: starting 4" wide at the top, curving to 10" at the knee, then running straight down. I put two darts in the front panel and one in the back, all around knee height, each about two-thirds of the panel’s width. Because the waistband ended up 4" larger than my waist, I added pleats in the front and took an inch off each side. With a ½" seam allowance, I still had about an extra inch—combined with a curved waistband, that gave me a slightly lower rise that I actually love. The back pockets are oversized and sloped, and I added a little loop for my keychain so my waistband doesn’t get dragged down by my keys. My only regret?
