Top reasons why this topic is getting popular

1. Convenience and Portability

Bassinets are lightweight and easy to move around, making them convenient for parents who want to keep their baby close by. They can be placed next to the parents' bed at night, making it easier to attend to the baby's needs.

2. Safety

Bassinets are designed with safety in mind. They usually have a firm mattress and a secure enclosure to prevent the baby from rolling out or getting trapped. Some bassinets also come with features like breathable mesh sides to improve airflow and reduce the risk of suffocation.

3. Comfort for Newborns

Bassinets provide a cozy and snug sleeping space for newborns. The smaller size and enclosed design mimic the womb environment, which can help soothe and comfort the baby. The gentle rocking or swaying motion of some bassinets can also help lull the baby to sleep.

4. Versatility

Bassinets come in various styles and designs to suit different needs. Some models have adjustable height settings, allowing them to be used as a bedside sleeper or a standalone bassinet. Others have additional features like storage compartments or built-in nightlights.

5. Trend towards Co-Sleeping

There is a growing trend towards co-sleeping or room-sharing with newborns, as it promotes bonding and makes nighttime feeding easier. Bassinets provide a safe and separate sleeping space for the baby while still being within arm's reach of the parents.

Curious if you’re planning to have your newborn sleep in their own crib in a separate room or in a crib/bassinet in your room? Pros and cons are much appreciated!

@Savvykennedy, I feel your pain. My little man is even fighting sleeping in the bassinet at night a bit too. Literally have to hold him for 20-30 minutes before I can transfer him, and I just hold my breath and pray that he doesn’t wake during the transfer.

My LO is 11 weeks and has recently refused to nap in his crib during the day. He has no issues sleeping in his crib at night and will only wake to feed. He used to be able to have 1-2 hour naps in his crib but has recently refused this. Even when we would rock him to sleep and wait until he is in a deep sleep, when we put him down in his crib he will wake up crying after 10 minutes. Any ideas why...

@babyj1129, No, he's staying lol. It's just so much easier. I don't want to get up for more than one baby at night 😄. We have a king sized bed and turned it into a floor bed for now. He just rolls all over and there really isn't a hazard for him. I plan to have baby in a bassinet next to the bed and pop out of the room with her if she's getting too fussy.

10.5 weeks EBF, no swaddle, bassinet in our room. 5-hour stretch to start the night then two 2-hour stretches, typically. She’d been consistently giving us 7-hour stretches until last week
