This blanket took me 48 days to complete. I used 112 colors of the Wool of the Andes from Crochet.com. I bought the 100 skein multipack and bought the other 12 not in the multipack assortment. A number of colors were out of stock when I made the initial purchase. At some point all but two of the backordered skeins became available. I decided I did not want to wait until June 12th to order the two colors still on backorder. I will still buy them, but they won’t be part of this blanket. 😕. I used a 6.0 mm hook. This is a design I created. After making a few sample blocks to see if I liked my design I switched to crocheting round by round. After all the centers were made I placed the circles on the skeins to designate the round two colors. I repeated the process until all rounds were completed. The border color started with a round of V stitches then transitioned into the traditional method of squaring off the circle. Because the circles were so large it took three rounds to complete the squaring off process. I blocked all the squares on foam mats with marked grid lines and secured them with blocking combs and later with T pins in the four corners combined with the combs. The squares were blocked to 9.5 inches. I used a flat slip stitch to join the squares. My simple border consists of two rounds of granny clusters. I worked a granny cluster into the first/last stitch of the joining seams. I then completed a round of HDC with several decreases per square. This helped to tighten up the center edges of the squares that tend to bow out. The final round is HDC worked in each stitch without any decreases. My son remarried around 6 months ago and my new DIL, already had a daughter named Becky. Becky is 10 and overall is a sweet girl. When each of the grandkids were born, I made a big blanket for all of them. The size of twin bed. I spent a lot of time and effort on all of them. I know most of the kids still use them often. Theo last one I made was 6 years ago and I struggled to make it. My son asked me to make a blanket for Becky. I told him no because of my arthritis in my hands and I have trouble sowing now. He asked if I would be willing to give her the one that I made for his sister child. My daughter had a still birth so the blanket was never used. I told him no, that that blanket was ment for someone else and it feels real shitty to give to someone it wasn’t intended for. I thought that was the end of it but I got a call from my DIL, and she was pissed. She claims I am not seeing her kid as my grandkid and I should be stepping up. I told her I can’t make a blanket and she told me to give the old one her daughter. I told her no. She is pissed and I am kinda pissed. Why does my neutered male cat hump blankets all day? I adore him, but it's annoying AF. He'll do it on top of me when I'm sleeping, or when I'm just sitting around, and he's very aggressive when I try to move him away.
