Someone was asking about Blind Box codes. This is an example of the symbol to look for on boxes that do have a “cheat” code (not all types of blind boxes do). You want to look for that little circle. Where the line intersects the circle will change depending on what’s inside. the title says it all. i will make a long (and expensive) commute to popmart and i swear its like i black out. i get the rush of excitement from dropping boxes into my bag. i have a really easy job that pays good and i’m wasting all of my money on this. i have yet to get a secret but im itching for one. like why? it’s gambling i know. but it’s right as i rip the pull tag off the box (and it doesn’t help that i can get them on amazon too) its this instant rush of serotonin, it feels like a high. i spent 230 on a case of plastic junk. and then a few weeks before that i bought nearly 300 on multiple boxes. i’m so embarrassed an i cant stop. i just bought two boxes on amazon which promoted me to make this post. i hope im not alone in this. i’m too embarrassed to bring it up to anyone submitted by /u/lilydeech to r/shoppingaddiction [link] [comments]

hi guys! i recently got my melody plush from the afternoon tea blind box and i absolutely love her. i’ve been dying to get another one but the thought of getting a duplicate when the boxes are nearly $40 (CAD) scares me a bit lol. i know there isn’t a way to “cheat” a blind box from the outside. but i’ve seen a lot of tricks like shaking it or comparing the weights — i’m not sure how reliable those are tho LMFAO i’ve also heard of ppl checking through the bottom of the box to see the card. my question is do people care if you open through the bottom before purchasing? or is it so visible that i don’t even need to open the whole bottom tab and i can simply lift it, if that makes sense. i would test this with the empty box from the first blind box i got but i literally threw it out immediately after opening. so i can’t remember how the bottom was sealed😭😭 worst case scenario i can sell the dupe but insight is appreciated :) submitted by /u/bliss111e to r/MINISO [link] [comments]

i suppose this also fits under advice? i’m not totally sure who to talk to about this tbh🫠🥴 and i want to preface the fact that im not immune to engaging in trends and buying stuff- i went thru a funko pop phase at 15, sue me- but i generally try to find alternatives from a small business or make smtn myself. my girlfriend loves blind boxes- not labubus, at least- but still stuff from pop mart and others. i hate this stuff for the trends and overconsumption it’s produced but also bc i find it to be something just so utterly… useless? and i mean like i said i have some “useless” collections myself- but since adulthood ive tried to minimize my purchases like that. and i know she didn’t get to have a lot of kid stuff in her childhood so she is indulging now as an adult, which i also think is valid- to an extent, but ideally one would minimize the plastic they buy and try to shop from small businesses. anyways, i am currently visiting my parents who live next to a huuuuge mall, and she asked me to buy a ton of blind boxes for her. i did, but i expressed my discontent with the whole thing. i told her how when im waiting around while she shops or when i am shopping all i see is the plastic packaging and i picture landfills and sweatshops and yk, all the bad things that shopping is. i spent like 200+$ this trip on blinds for her and i feel really gross about it. she is paying me back for them- so logically it is her spending the money not me, but i hate that bought it all. i don’t think anyone needs thirteen blind boxes (one is in like a shoe box sized package) on top of the ones she has. like i understand buying one, and using it as a keychain as intended- but it’s just so many. i’m so tired of trends and late stage capitalism and everything being an ad and forced underpaid labor and waste and the destruction of our beautiful planet.. anyways.. whew. thanks for reading ig? edit: if anyone knows any articles i could read about this kind of overconsumption i’d love to read them, or any advice about how to address this kind of issue again is appreciated also submitted by /u/CarpenterPlane131 to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

i'm a smart person. i don't do things that put me in danger and i'm very safe and practical about spending money...until the last 2 weeks. i discover blind boxes on tiktok live and i've spent well over $500 in mere days. i don't know what happens to me, but the community within the livestreams, the excited hosts, the cart full of cute plushies and figures i don't see offered in stores near me, and the satisfaction of seeing what you purchased opened immediately is so...intoxicating. i bought one single plush. that's all it took and now my bank account is lower than it's ever been. i feel shame. i feel guilt. and yeah, i feel really silly because why am i, a 31 year old full-time worker, spending hundreds on rabbit plushies and cute figures that'll just be put on a shelf? i have a collection of anime figures and other cute things, but i got those over a period of years - not 18 in 10 days. i have never been this affected by online shopping in my life. i promised my fiancé i would stop and i did for about 10 hours until i caught a live stream and the words "exclusive" and "buy 2, get 1 free" were said and $30 later, i broke my promise and was even deeper in the whole. it's hard not to be on tiktok and although i've muted certain phrases and unfollowed multiple accounts, nothing is stopping me from manually searching for it and getting right back in the mess. i am scared i've developed a problem and that i have absolutely zero self-restraint. hell, zero self-respect. i've justified the past week and a half as the fact that i have disposable income and if my bills are paid, why not use the rest? but that's not sustainable. i am getting married in may. we have so much left to pay for. and yet, i was on a stream minutes before finding this subreddit. i don't know if the time i've felt this way is worthy of an intervention, but man, i could really use any advice. i'm rocking $115 in my checking right now. please never let me experience this again. i can't do it. submitted by /u/jzmnflwr to r/shoppingaddiction [link] [comments]

My girlfriend loves them, and I truly cannot understand why. She spends so much time and money on Smiski, Popmart, Sonny Angel, Sanrio, etc. and cannot explain the appeal herself beyond "they're cute." Her Tiktok FYP is full of unboxing and haul videos, and every time we go to a store that has some sort of mystery item she will at least attempt to buy it, regardless of what the contents may be. I see blind boxes in vending machines and grocery store checkouts. They have them for collectibles, clothing, books, snacks, games– nearly everything. I will admit that I am not immune to the siren song of collectibles, as I myself have a sizable collection of hand-painted d&d miniatures and vintage/secondhand dolls and action figures. I understand the appeal of completing a set or finding something you've been looking for. However, I at least purchase these intentionally or receive them as gifts, and there is an element of creativity in it as I generally paint the miniatures or restore the toys. I can justify spending money on something that you can do something with that genuinely makes you happy. I do not understand the idea of paying money for something when there's a good chance you'll get something you don't actually want. It's especially messed up that blind boxes are primarily marketed to children. A few weeks ago I went to the toy store to look for a gift for my friend's toddler. Despite going to a small local shop, almost an entire wall was covered in blind boxes– bag charms, plushies, plastic toys, everything. It's a predatory business model– it pushes parents to spend more money on multiple toys in order to get the one their kid actually wants, gets kids addicted to the gambling aspects, and creates tons of waste both through thrown away packaging and unwanted products. Some stores at least have an exchange policy, so you can swap out an item you didn't want for one you do, but the majority do not and it's insane to have to take that extra step instead of simply buying the thing outright. I tried bringing these points up to my girlfriend when she was looking at a gacha machine at the mall. It was asking $24 for a randomized four-inch vinyl statue, only three of which she actually liked. I asked her, if the mystery element was gone, if they were all just sitting unwrapped on a shelf with a $24 price tag, would she pay full price for one of the figures? She admitted she wouldn't, and when I asked if she was paying extra for the experience of not knowing if she'll get the thing she wants or not, she said yes. Despite this, she spent the money, and managed to get one of the figures she wanted. I feel like I'm crazy.
