Do blue light blocking glasses actually work? I tested them for 30 days, here's what happened
I didn’t think blue light glasses would do much, honestly. I stare at screens all day, so I figured I’d give it 30 days and see. First week felt… normal. No magic fix. By week two, I noticed my eyes weren’t as dry at night. I had tried Gunnar before, and Benicci briefly, but they felt bulky or too tinted. This time I used Spektrum Glasses. They felt lighter and less distracting, which probably helped me stick with them. By the end, headaches were slightly reduced. Not gone, just better. Maybe it’s placebo, maybe not but would I keep using them? Yeah. Curious if others had a similar experience? submitted by /u/Whole_Student_5277 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

What is the verdict on blue-light glasses?
I keep running into mixed opinions about blue light glasses, and I’m hoping this subreddit has a clearer take. Some people swear by them and wear them daily. Others say they don’t really do anything meaningful for eye health. From what I understand, blue light glasses do block a certain type of light from screens. That part seems straightforward. What I’m confused about is whether that actually matters for the long-term health of your eyes. Are they protecting vision? I don’t mind wearing glasses if they’re helpful, but I don’t want to wear something just because it sounds good. I’ve seen claims about preventing eye strain, headaches, and even long-term damage, but then I see articles saying there’s no strong proof for most of that. I’ve tried a pair myself, nothing expensive. I ordered them online after comparing options on Alibaba. They’re fine to wear, but I can’t say I feel a big difference. So I’m curious how opticians here see it. Is there a general agreement on whether blue light glasses are useful for eye health? submitted by /u/Embarrassed-Career30 to r/AskAnOptician [link] [comments]

Blue Light Glasses: Yes or No?
I work in IT and I’m a CS major so my day is spent looking at a screen from 7:30am - 7pm. The thing is my head has been hurting on and off and I do suspect it is the fact I look at a screen all day. Blue light glasses seem to have controversial opinions but I really need something to help. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/No_Software1897 to r/glasses [link] [comments]

Do people really need blue light glasses, or is it mostly a comfort thing?
I keep seeing blue light glasses everywhere; everybody on Instagram feed is talking about them, and some optical shops try to upsell them to you when you're getting your regular lenses. Here are some things that are confusing me. I've read totally different things on the internet. Some sites and studies have said they can help with eye strain and sleep. Others say the science is nonexistent. From what I’ve observed:: Not enough evidence on screens emitting blue light that actually harms the eyes. The cause of eye strain is caused by glare, light, and not blinking enough. Some people really feel less tired or sleep better using them. Maybe placebo effect? So I’m asking for those of you using them on a daily basis, do you find a significant comfort or sleep difference? Or does changing your screen habits help more? submitted by /u/iCliniq_official to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

Are blue light glasses still worth the money?
Heard a lot of mixewd reviews about whether blue light glasses actually do anything. I'm considering buy a cheap pair to help improve my sleep after staring at the computer/phone for a while before heading to bed. I found some on Amazon and my friend recommended me this one I'm particularly interested in due to their design. I would prefer ones like the aforementioned and not the polarized ones. submitted by /u/No_Owl_6254 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Why do people still believe in blue light glasses when the evidence isn’t there?
Blue light glasses exploded in popularity over the past decade — promoted by doctors’ offices, influencers, podcasts, and even mainstream news. The claim has always been that blocking blue light protects your eyes and improves your sleep. But the evidence just doesn’t support that. Multiple peer-reviewed studies have failed to show meaningful benefits for eye strain or sleep quality, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology has explicitly stated that these glasses are not recommended. Despite this, the industry is still worth billions and continues to grow. submitted by /u/Doug24 to r/skeptic [link] [comments]

I wore blue-light blocking glasses at night for 1 weeks straight, this is what happened:
Absolutely nothing. Total scam. I logged subjective markers (sleep quality, mood, and energy), tracked my sleep, and measured my morning and evening cortisol every day. Cortisol didn’t change. Sleep didn’t change. None of the subjective markers showed a consistent effect. Has anyone experienced any benefit? Edit: protocol I used: From 2 hours before my typical bedtime, I avoided environments with > 100 Lux (measured with The Lume App) and wore Blue light blocking glasses (This Post guided my choice of glasses). Once I got into bed, I took off the glasses and put on an eye mask. submitted by /u/DrJ_Lume to r/Biohackers [link] [comments]

I just finished testing 30 pairs of blue-blocking glasses! Here’s what I found…
As many of you are probably aware, most blue-blocking glasses “claim” to block X amount of blue/green light without backing that up with any kind of data. Since I have a spectrometer, I figured I’d go ahead and test them all myself! Here's the link to the database! Over 30 different lenses have been tested so far with more to come! Here’s what’s inside: Circadian Light Reduction Circadian Light is a metric derived through an advanced algorithm developed by the LHRC which simply looks at a light source’s overall spectrum and how that is likely to interact with the human body. What this does is weights the light that falls within the melanopically sensitive range, and gives it a score based on how much lux is present in that range. Before and After Spectrum Each pair of glasses was tested against a test spectrum so that a reduction in wavelengths could be seen across the entire visible spectrum. This will allow you to see what a particular lens actually blocks and what it doesn't. Lux Reduction Lux is simply a measurement of how much light exists within the spectral sensitivity window of the human eye. In other words, how bright a light source is. Some glasses block more lux and less circadian light than others. And some go the other way. If you’re looking to maximize melatonin production, but still want to see as well as possible, look for a pair with low lux reduction and high circadian light reduction. The higher the lux reduction, the worse everything is going to look, but this may be helpful in bright environments or for those with sensitive visual receptors. Fit and Style Matters! This should be common sense, but wraparound-style glasses prevent significantly more unfiltered light from entering the eye than regular-style glasses do. I carved out a foam mannequin head and put my spectrometer in there to simulate how much light made it to the human eye with different kinds of glasses on. https://preview.redd.it/xhhe9er5w1sa1.jpg?width=1060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4d44ac93341ebe656ebef5075dfbbbc961bf63d Here is our reference light: https://preview.redd.it/2wa3eg07w1sa1.jpg?width=663&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ed4a1ad967d86514cc6bee02ec11d88d18713710 And here is how much of that light makes it through the lenses from the wrap-around glasses above: https://preview.redd.it/mxmpj5o8w1sa1.jpg?width=663&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ae226f77aca4cfd56acf503778e19f133727317 But what happens when we move the head around a light source so that light can get in through the sides? https://preview.redd.it/dga6ff9bw1sa1.jpg?width=1060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c835ea4f1afd0a3c814927fca131e79984fd7d6e Below is a reading taken from a light source directly overhead, as you can see there's really no difference: https://preview.redd.it/abrmxnucw1sa1.jpg?width=663&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=07c3061e32a8439eacf26082f334c7fff97ed993 How about if we test a more typical pair of glasses? https://preview.redd.it/lktquljew1sa1.jpg?width=1060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f261a3e3a0b106e91fae4539de05275a765b21a9 Here's how much light these lenses block: https://preview.redd.it/6k44qvpfw1sa1.jpg?width=663&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0088519d3ec33fa81ce0d3d697870055983848bf But what happens when we move the light source around the head at various angles? https://preview.redd.it/1yc8cl0hw1sa1.jpg?width=1060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef3a031277af4cad6c3392008d5c43f0aac857f5 What we see is a massive amount of light that the lenses themselves can technically block can make it to the eye with a style like this: https://i.redd.it/a35pw7kiw1sa1.gif So compared to the reference light, these glasses still mitigate short-wavelength blue and green light. But that doesn't mean they block the light they're advertised to in the end. Hopefully, this helps you make better decisions about which blue blockers you use! In 2022, would it be wrong or offensive for me to wear around blue light blocking glasses simply because I really like the way they look on me?
I looked this up already but a lot of really old Reddit posts from like 10 years ago came up, to which most said it is very offensive to wear glasses for style, but I'm wondering if maybe this has changed? I understand where people who think so come from, but I just have a hard time wrapping my head around anyone actually being hurt about this these days with glasses and fashion being both so synonymous and common. But I want to be sure I'm not wrong and have an ignorant view. I've asked a couple of friends who wear glasses for their eyesight and they looked at me confused and were like "people actually get offended over that"? Edit: Never a post I could have imagined blowing up and becoming my record upvoted post, so thank you everybody for that and your encouraging feedback to what I admit to be a kind of dumb and random 4 am post. I now plan to rock my blue light glasses in public even if my only motive is some feel good style points lol. Sounds crazy now that people could be offended over wearing eyewear only for style, but look it up, majority of people used to I guess or at least found it tacky. submitted by /u/Ian_0831 to r/CasualConversation [link] [comments]
