Airlines should charge for carry-on bags and checked luggage should be free
This would solve a lot of the hassle, stress, and policy enforcement inconsistencies. All bags bigger than a purse or "standard" backpack should be charged to bring on the plane. A backpack or purse would be anything that is designed to be worn upon a person's body via straps as opposed to wheels and a handle. Up to two checked bags up to 50 pounds should be free. This will lead to faster boarding times and better consolidation of luggage since people won't be spreading their items between multiple bags. submitted by /u/chaddgar to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

Best Carry on Luggage in 2026
Update: Someone suggested this article and its really good. Best Carry On Luggage in 2026. I love the fact that it covers all kind of options, from high end to low. And I have settled for Travel Pro. Thank you everyone for helping. What is the best carry on luggage available in the market? Should be suitable for both regular and frequent travel. Moderate to lightweight is preferable. Should be durable and good looking. Price is not an issue. Thank you in advance for helping. submitted by /u/Commercial-Fix-9916 to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Checking your bags is a way better travel experience than carry on luggage.
Somehow over the years of flying it seems like 90% of travelers exclusively carry on. They carry these huge rollers and a “personal item” which is usually a massive backpack. Lugging your carry on luggage around airports, running to gates knocking everyone on the seats. Makes the whole experience worse for everyone. Miss me with the lost luggage argument. Especially your return flight. Most people’s stuff is really not that important. Also lost luggage is very rare. It slows the boarding and off boarding as everyone struggles with heavy overhead bags. If you can’t lift your bags, you need to check them. I’m not interested in helping lift your luggage, that you should have checked. It makes the security lines longer as all the carryons need to be checked also. Once I stopped bothering with carryons my flight experiences are much easier for me. Finally screw these airlines which charge for baggage, unless you try and carry on then they ask for people to check for free?!? Makes no sense. And finally finally. You rich 1st class flyers who carry on. You are the worst. 1st class passengers get 2 FREE BAGS UP TO 70LBS, and their baggage gets first class treatment. (A little travel hack, if you have connections, upgrade your first leg and get free bags for your trip.) Check your bags people. If you want to save money, gate check them for free. submitted by /u/Equal_Whole_6837 to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

Southwest: "we need 12 more people to check their carry-on luggage."
I fly southwest a lot. They're turning it into a shit show and its not helping anyone. Its so annoying to listen to them beg people to check their carry-on bags before flights. "Its free" as if thats an incentive instead of what used to be the standard. Do you know when overhead space became an issue? When you started charging for checked bags. If youre going to check them for free at the gate anyway why not just go back to allowing passengers to check a free bag before going through security? Im not even going to address the other issues with boarding that exist now sice they got away from the A, B, and C groups. Do better Southwest submitted by /u/EarlyBirdWithAWorm to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

It’s official, I’m a Canadian!
I became a Canadian citizen yesterday, and I was so full of pride that I felt compelled to share this moment with the wonderful people of my city, Kitchener. The response was incredibly warm, so I thought, why not share it with the wider Canadian family as well? I carry vivid memories of those who showed me what it truly means to be Canadian. From my very first day in the country, at my duplex in Montreal, a young guy on a smoke break offered in French, to help carry my luggage upstairs. To my master’s supervisor who taught me not only machine learning, but also how to genuinely care for students. To my former roommate who even after I moved out, continued to check my mail and proactively send updates so it never felt like a burden. To the grandpa down the road who never fails to say hello during my evening walks. To the people who held doors open for me, kind neighbors, and countless small gestures that meant a lot. I remember it all like it was yesterday, and along the way, these experiences shaped who I am today. Now that I’m officially Canadian, I know how important it is to volunteer, help your neighbors, and embrace winter sports. What else would you recommend for a new Canadian? submitted by /u/the-adornment to r/onguardforthee [link] [comments]

People with only personal item and no carry on luggage should be able to board/de-board first
I have seen the opinion posted that carry on luggage should not be allowed on flights (which was my initial assessment also); however this is clearly controversial and angers the carry-on luggage fanatics but what about just giving priority boarding to those of us he just have a small backpack or bag and no need for overhead bins? Seems like a fair compromise? submitted by /u/somewhatlucky4life to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

What's the best carry on luggage on the market?
TL;DR: looking for the best carry on luggage on the market, budget flexible. I travel just enough to be annoyed but not enough to feel elite about it. Like I know the layout of TSA PreCheck but I still somehow end up behind the guy unbuckling a belt made of medieval weaponry. Anyway, my current carry on suitcase has officially entered its flop era. One wheel squeals like it’s being emotionally harmed, the zipper does that wavy thing where it looks closed but you don’t trust it, and the handle only locks if you whisper encouragement. So I’m asking the internet because at this point Reddit has cost me less money than my own bad decisions. What is actually the best carry on luggage. Not influencer best. Not “I got this free but legally have to say it’s amazing” best. I mean real world, dragged across uneven sidewalks, shoved into overhead bins sideways, sprinted through airports while sweating through a hoodie best. Here’s the thing though, I’m weirdly picky. I don’t want something that screams luxury or makes me look like I’m about to vlog my morning routine. I also don’t want something that feels like it’ll explode if I sit on it to zip it closed. Hard shell vs soft shell is already a fight in my group chat so feel free to pour gasoline on that. I do want it to fit most airline carry on rules without playing geometry roulette at the gate. Bonus points if it survives budget airlines that hate joy. I travel for a mix of short work trips and personal stuff, usually 3 to 5 days. I overpack shoes and underpack common sense. I fly a lot of domestic US but occasionally international, and yes I have been that person gate checked at the last second and yes I am still bitter. Budget wise I’m flexible but not unhinged. If the answer is “this $300 suitcase changed my life” you’re gonna have to sell me emotionally. If the answer is “this $120 one has been kicked down five flights of stairs and lived” I’m listening. TIA for any any help! Edit: thank you guys for all the help! great comments all around, someone mention this post: https://www.redrecs.com/best-carry-on-luggage (basically a website that analyze thousands reddit comments from posts just like mine that discuss what's the best carry on luggage) and ended up getting the second pick on that list, the Travelpro maxlite (the first one on the list was a bit too much for my budget.. :) and very happy with my choice, can see why reddit love it so much and the price is hard to beat. submitted by /u/jobegreen to r/buyforlifetips [link] [comments]

What makes a carry on luggage the best in 2026
Update: After trying a few options mentioned here, I ended up going with Away carry-on luggage and it’s been awesome for both short trips and work travel. The build feels solid, the handle and wheels glide smoothly, and it’s light enough to toss around without worrying about rattles. The expandability also came in clutch when I needed a bit of extra room. I skipped the “smart” bag features and just use a small portable charger—way simpler and no worries about airline rules. Overall, it hits the sweet spot between durability and style without any gimmicks. Full transparency: that link is an affiliate link, so I may earn a small commission if you buy through it. im planning get a new carry on luggage next year. I’ve been traveling a bit more this year, mostly short trips to see family and a couple work things, and I realized my old carry on is kinda falling apart. One of the wheels legit wobbles like it’s had a rough night out, and the handle sticks half the time. Also curious about a couple things Are the smart ones with chargers even worth it or do they just break faster? How important is the handle strength? mine rattles like crazy Do you care more about looks or durability? Anyone actually notice a difference between the polycarbonate shells and the softer fabric one? Any real world tips would be awesome. submitted by /u/Tuinea-Lazaro to r/ManyBaggers [link] [comments]

Interesting Carry-on Luggage Storage - CRJ550 (00)
I fly United almost weekly (admittedly, not often on CRJ’s) but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this type of onboard storage for carry-on luggage - sort of a nicer version of what happens on an Avis bus. Seems better/easier from a passenger perspective, but I’m shocked United would give up several rows of seat revenue. Must be a good reason from the airline’s perspective? submitted by /u/NationalIngenuity420 to r/unitedairlines [link] [comments]

Why are so many “carry-on” suitcases larger than the average carry on dimension limits?
I’m a frequent traveler and after many years my trusty Samsonite is falling apart. I’m trying to find a new carry-on that fits the American domestic dimension limits (22x14x9) and I keep coming across bags that are just over these dimensions? I don’t understand why they would do this or why nobody mentions it? Can someone recommend a soft suitcase that does meet the requirements? Airlines should charge for carry on bags, not checked luggage
Everyone is trying to avoid checked baggage fees by taking all their stuff on the plane. I get it. Problem is, bags everywhere. Seating areas near the gates are clogged with baggage. Access to board the plane is a cluster of people rushing to be the first in line for their zone so they can get overhead bin space for all their stuff. Boarding and de-boarding takes forever. Allow no-fee checked baggage and one no-fee “personal item” like a backpack or purse. Charge the $35, $50, whatever for carry-on sized luggage/bags and the airport experience would be so much better. submitted by /u/ffsux to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

Carry on luggage on US flights is out of control
Just my opinion, but in comparison to places like Australia, carry on luggage on American domestic flights is completely out of control. It seems like everyone is just pushing the limits of is acceptable and there are some very obvious “that should be checked luggage” bags rolling onto the plane. This is a massive waste of time. How do people put up with this? I would say it increases boarding time by a good 30% because the bins fill up quickly and people have to play overhead baggage Tetris. submitted by /u/Global-Lime8950 to r/travel [link] [comments]

Traveling with people that insist on carrying large luggage.
Currently on a trip through France with people that MUST USE A NEW OUTFIT EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. That means a very large suitcase for each one of them, and they plan on buying an extra carry on to accommodate everything they want to buy to take home before we leave. My husband and I have to help them in every staircase, because they are extremely heavy and can’t be handled by a single person. In trains, they don’t fit in absolutely any compartment, so they have to be stacked in the middle of the corridors, leaving us trapped in our seats. In airports or stations we become a huge inconvenience for everyone around us, because we occupy a huge space, making hard for everyone to circulate around the platforms. He and I brought our good old carry on bags, use the same sweaters over clean t-shirts every day, and plan on washing our clothes soon and they think we are absolute idiots. They looked at us like we were going insane when we talked about going to the laundromat tomorrow, because you obviously have to be an idiot to do laundry during your vacation. Never again. submitted by /u/gimnastic_octopus to r/travel [link] [comments]

Someone took my carry-on luggage from the overhead bin on United flight from DFW to SFO
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is u/coursesand. She posted in r/Dallas. This is a short and light post for a palate cleanser. Mood Spoiler: happy ending Original Post: July 22, 2023 I was on flight 336 from DFW to SFO yesterday for a wedding tonight. Someone took my carry-on luggage that was in the overhead bin. My bridesmaid dress and all my makeup and jewelry were in there. The wedding is tonight and I’ve had to scramble to get a new bridesmaid dress, makeup, clothes, shoes, toiletries, etc. There was one piece of luggage that was left on the plane that looked similar to my bag, so I’m assuming that someone accidentally grabbed my bag instead of their own. The bag is black and has a brown leather tag on the side. Inside the front pockets of the bag are green pajamas, a purple bottle of melatonin, and a coach glasses case with glasses, and a plastic bag with orange earplugs. I know this is a Hail Mary, but if this was you, can you please DM me? I really need my stuff back. I can help you find your luggage, it’s at the SFO United bag center. Relevant Comments: What is in their bag/is there a name on the bag? "The flight attendants would not let me look in the bag. The bag had no tags on it or anything to identify the person." Did you put your bag far away from you? "No I put it right over my seat" Update Post: July 23, 2023 (Next Day) Update on my previous post about someone taking my carry-on bag from the overhead bin. I was traveling for a wedding that I was a bridesmaid for. Unfortunately at the airport, there was no way to track the person down or my bag. I submit lost luggage reports to the airline and to the airport. Because I was swamped with wedding stuff all weekend, my mom graciously helped me submit reports, call the United customer service, etc. At this point, I knew I probably wouldn’t get my stuff in time for the wedding, especially since the wedding venue was super far from the airport. After my luggage got taken, all I had was my phone and wallet in my small purse. I didn’t have much time before the rehearsal dinner, so I uberred to the closest Target to buy clothes, toiletries, makeup, shoes, bags, etc, $500 worth of stuff to get me through the next 3 days and the wedding. I could replace most of my stuff, but the biggest issue was that my bridesmaid dress for the wedding was now lost. I got SUPER lucky because we managed to find someone with a used bridesmaid dress in the area and it was the right brand, color, and size. We got it just in time for the wedding, fit perfectly, still can’t believe how lucky I got! During the wedding ceremony, I got a voicemail from United saying that someone returned a bag and they think it’s mine. Since I was in the middle of the wedding, my mom checked for me, and was able to confirm that it WAS mine. Came to the airport this morning and my luggage was there, nothing was stolen, and the lady told me that I should be able to get the $500 reimbursed. Hoping that will work. Decided to upgrade my flight to first class after the chaos of the luggage, just need to end the trip on a positive note, it’s my first time flying first class, and I’m very excited! Anyways, thanks to everyone for the suggestions for future trips! I will definitely be getting AirTags, colored ribbons, etc to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Was a stressful situation, but the wedding was great and I got all my stuff back! Relevant Comment: "They haven’t paid me the $500 yet, but an employee said that I should submit a request and see if it works" So did you return theirs? "So I actually saw the bag sitting in the luggage claim area. I really don’t understand what happened, the whole system seems like a mess with United. I’m never flying United ever again, everything was awful from beginning to end. But hopefully they get the bag back." submitted by /u/LucyAriaRose to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]
