My cat Tinker Toy visits this spot on the lake multiple times a day. Its where we found his brother's body. What can we do to help Tinker Toy heal? The pictures are crap. My heart is breaking for Tinker. Him and his brother were the best of friends. We have other cats, as we live on a farm. But Tinker is down on the banks of the lake everyday, morning to sundown. Just sitting. Standing. I think hoping for his brother to come home. I dont know how to help him heal. Its been maybe a month since his brother Angel Babyface died. He showed my husband where Babyface's body was, and he was buried while i was at work. We have had these 2 since they were kittens. Ive included a picture for the Tinker Tax.... ** edited to say that we live on a farm, very rural. yes, they go outside. i bring them inside as much as possible All Our cats were feral babies and/or adults, that were adopted from the humane society's "working cats" prgram. We love them very much.. **edited again to say that the cats we have are Working Cats from the Humane Society. They are adopted out to farmers and people in rural areas because the humane society has determined they will do better with jobs to do, outdoors on farms, then being household pets. Just because they are working cats, it doesnt mean they are loved any less. Many of them were barn litters that didnt get properly socialized, or were dumped. The humane society we have near us is a no kill shelter, so they adopt them out this way instead of euthanizing them, so the cats and kittens still have a chance at a happy life. And yes, I know that inside cats have a much longer lifespan than outdoor cats. Working Cats have been given a chance for a good life on a farm instead of being euthanized by the shelter, which I 100% support and stand behind. I will always support the working cats program, and thr humane society. I do not regret getting any of my feral cats/working cats from them. ​ **one more edit.... this is where Babyface's body was found, by my husband, because Tinker showed him. We dont know why Babyface passed. I’m trying to find some good cat toys, but my cat has made it very clear that price means nothing to him. I can buy something with great reviews and he’ll ignore it, then lose his mind over a random bottle cap or the box it came in. I’m looking for toys that cats actually use more than once. Things like wand toys, tunnels, springs, puzzle feeders, little mice, automatic toys, anything that keeps them active and not just staring at me like I ruined their life. I’d love to hear what worked for your cat and what was a total waste of money. This is not a brag, because smart cats can be more annoying sometimes lol. Maybe it's because he's smart, maybe he's just a little stick in the mud, but once he knows how a toy works, he's over it. I want to play with him but it's like he's saying "dad, I know that toy is attached to a string that you're moving" or "that laser isn't even real no thanks" I need advice on what toys are good for super curious cat. He likes when I move things under a blanket that's the only thing he doesn't get bored of after like 2 minutes. Any ideas? My cat Sadie has a lot of weird toys that he’s found and began playing with - supervised of course. On this list are electrical cords, plastic bags, fabric tape measures (yes,multiple!), lint roller papers, towels, pipe cleaners, The list goes on. There are certain toys that I take from him, like the cords, but he gets so much enrichment out of these things. My question for yall is, are there any odd items that your kitty has claimed as their own, or does my cat just have pica or something haha? He genuinely gets obsessive about some of these ‘toys’ and I had to stop him from playing with them. Other ones I’ve had to hide and have only supervised, short playtime with them. Hello! I have 3 cats - 9yo, 5yo, and a 1yo. They are the sweetest, but the 1yo is driving me a little crazy. He wants to play every second of every day. Before I get any hate, I do make time to play with him for extended periods multiple time per day, but its like its never enough. When im unable to, he goes and tries to play with my other cats who are a lot less energetic than him. This has resulted in lots of stress and anxiety for the two oldest and leads to cat fights. He gets bored and rips up my carpet, tears up my blinds, and chews on cords. I live in a 3 story townhome so they have lots of space and multiple sets of stairs to run on. They have 4 large cat trees, multiple tunnels, and every toy you can imagine that I rotate out to keep things new. I have tried so many self-play toys but nothing works. I have carpet, so the toys that roll around dont work very well. He isnt interested in toys like fish or birds that move when they are touched. My cat is very picky with her toys, she loves chasing balls, those wand toys with a feather or something on the end, she goes crazy if I put a bit of string under a bin bag😂 and most of all she loves having a real good fight with me. I really want to try some interactive toys for when I’m not home but she hasn’t liked the ones I’ve bought her. The first toy I got was a rotating device you put under a sheet and the feathers poke out of it and spin around…she liked it for all of five mins and now hates it. I also got her a bird that moves and she was scared of it bless her. I’ve got one of those tunnels with balls inside she occasionally plays with that. She’s loves treat finding toys! But other than that I’m not sure what to get her. She has access to outside as I live surrounded by nature with no main roads nearby. She is a playful cat, has lots of fun when I’m home as we chase each other around the house and have a good fight and she’s happy and healthy. Bee is a super sweet kitty and in almost now 6 years I’ve only heard her hiss if someone accidentally stepped on her tail. She’s super friendly to new cats and people. My husband and I did just move but she seemed to adjusted better than the other two cats in the house. This growling with toys has started in the last week. She started growling with food every now and then maybe two months ago but it just seemed to be at random and was easy to calm her down. However with toys she swats and lightly bites if you try and grab the toy if she drops it but she doesn’t try to draw blood at all. The best way to calm down her toy aggression so far is to separate her from everyone or to remove the toy from her sight completely. She’s been chasing her tail recently and I was just worried she was bored since the move. My boy is a big player. He has tons of energy and wants to play all the time. I've found he likes real fur toys, which is great, but they are generally not interactive with me. I've tried the classic feather/teaser on a pole toy, but he is a biter, and inevitably chews through the cord. So any suggestions on an interactive toy I can try with this energetic boy? My cat usually waits by the door and meowing for treats when I get back from work. But last week something went off, he didn’t come to greet me, just lying in one spot and barely move. At first I thought maybe he was just tired, but he just stayed there for half an hour and that's just so not right, so I took him to the vet. Initially we suspected a hairball issue. My vet gave him probiotics and told me to monitor his condition. After we got home and I gave him the probiotics but he threw all up. That’s when I knew this wasn’t something minor. The next day I took him back for a full checkup. Imaging showed there was something stuck in his intestines and the condition is not good since he refused to eat or drink. Once his bloodwork confirmed he was stable enough, the vet scheduled surgery the same day. After the surgery, they found that he had swallowed part of a teaser wand toy. Inside that piece there was a wire!!!! The wire had nearly gone through his intestinal wall, and another section of his intestine was badly swollen and close to becoming necrotic. My vet removed the object and stitch the damaged area, but they warned me that the following days would be critical. He stayed hospitalized for about a week on antibiotics, pain management, and a strict liquid diet. And today he's back home. For the next couple of weeks, he’ll be on prescription food and anti-inflammatory meds, and then we’ll go back for a follow-up check. The total cost came out to around $1225 usd. This does not include prescription gastrointestinal cat food, wet food, anti-inflammatory medication, and recovery meals. I’m sharing this mostly as a warning. I never imagined a common cat teaser toy could turn into something this dangerous. Please store toys carefully, supervise play when possible, and avoid toys that contain wire or hard internal cores. Just because something is sold for cats doesn’t mean it’s safe. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: Thank you all for the replies and being so caring! There are two things many people have been asking about, so I wanted to add a quick update. About the cost: I live in Shenzhen, so the total cost was much lower than it would be in the U.S. or other developed countries, but even here this was still expensive. I didn’t have pet insurance before this happened. I’ve since learned that insurance can cover around 60–70% in cases like this, so I’ve now insured both of my cats. About contacting the maker: I messaged the maker last night, and she was very cooperative throughout. She apologized, offered compensation, and said she will update the product page asap to warn other cat parents. While it’s true that the listing didn’t mention the internal wire, I recognize that I didn’t do my part as an owner by storing the toy somewhere my cat couldn’t reach. so I don’t plan to pursue further responsibility from her and am treating this as a hard lesson learned. I’ll be much more cautious with anything related to my cats in the future. Thank you all for the kind words about him. His name is Xuegao (which is ice cream in Chinese, his markings look a lot like a type of milk ice cream from here). I’ll keep sharing updates and photos as he continues to recover. my cats recently moved in with me after living at my parents’ house and i’m curious about why lola likes to put toys in the food and water. she does it nearly every day even though it makes it difficult for them to eat and drink. she seems pretty proud of herself. my mom said she used to do it all the time with hair ties, which are her favorite toy. she was only a year old when i moved away for college (4y/o now) so i still kind of feel like i’m getting to know her and her quirks. i’ve heard of other cats doing this and i really want to know where this behavior comes from, is she trying to gather her “belongings” in one place? she does like to carry toys around and move them places without actually playing with them. submitted by /u/celestialtech to r/cats [link] [comments]
