Hi Cavapoo family! Our Theo is now 7 months old and is refusing the crate at night. He is still fine in the crate during the day while we are at work but for the past 3 nights the crate at night hasn’t been working. He loved the crate at night and slept through the night since 8 weeks, just recently it’s changed. He’s not in any pain, all his needs are met, no change in routine, crate is comfy and dark, etc. The first night he barked a little at the beginning which we ignored and he eventually went to bed. Second night the same thing happened but then he was up at 3am. The third night (last night) he wanted out from the very beginning. It’s hard to ignore the barking for long periods at night since we live in an apartment so to manage the barking the second and third night I would eventually let him out and sleep on the floor with him (yes I know attending to his barking and letting him out probably reinforced it but I have no choice because of our living situation). Anyways, my question is when did you know it was time to transition your Cavapoo from being crated at night to not and how did you do it as well? Theo has been house and potty trained for awhile now and has no destructive behaviours. We plan to still keep him crated during the day when we are at work. I know they’re really bad but there is NOTHING else at my disposal to calm him down and stop him from biting me. I’ve tried frozen kongs, frozen carrots, rubber toys, whimzees, tendons. None of it lasts. He has them for two minutes and then it’s done. I can’t keep him locked up all day either. So I gave him a benebone. I’m observing him have it and I’m checking the bone every once in a while to make sure it’s still safe but I can’t shake the feeling of guilt. I’ve tried everything with this dog, he’s just so difficult. The hardest puppy I’ve ever raised and it’s really affecting me. Hi everyone! My girlfriend and I just got our now 10 week old cavapoo 2 weeks ago (picture included of the cutie). So far we are very surprised at how well she's adapted to her new surroundings. She sleeps in her crate at night from 9pm to about 6am, and she also naps in her crate during the day as well (we've been trying to follow the 1 hour awake, 2 hours asleep method). She does a great job at self-soothing when I put her in her playpen, other than a few temper tantrums for the first 5 or 10 minutes. All of that said, I was wondering how people manage working full time while also caring for and playing with their new pup throughout the day? Luckily my work is flexible and allows me to work remote whenever I want, but my girlfriend has to go in 5 days a week so our pup is mostly with me during the day. I do not want to work from home permanently, so when would be a good time to start leaving her completely alone during the day? I thought about doing half days, so she would only be in her crate for about 3 or 4 hours at a time. I want to make sure we’re building independence early and avoiding separation anxiety down the road. The rescue I adopted him from labeled him as a cava poo mix his mom that he was found with was definitely some sort of spaniel (in the supemutt mix) and they told me he would be 20 to 30 pounds and is currently 35 at six months! I live in the northeast, so we experience all the seasons. Winter has been particular rough so far and my dog will not walk outside if the ground is even so much as damp. Even today, a 40 degree day, he acts like he’s being tortured when I take him outside for his walks (we got two blocks and turned around lol) Does anyone else’s pup do this? This is Nugget. He’s the sweetest boy and we were told his max weight should be 15 lbs. he was 4.1 at 8 weeks. Then weighed at 10 weeks he was at 4.5. And he got weighed at 14 weeks and was 8.1 lbs. crazy jump! His parents were both 11 lbs so I’m hopeful I’ll able to fly with him. Was just wondering g how everyone’s cavapoo compares? first time dog owner here and thought by getting a fluffy Chewbacca dog, he would be sound asleep on my lap most days. man was I wrong! I love my little guy like a child, but he’s very difficult to handle and keep entertained. almost 11 months old but was hyper since the day we got him. my husband and I alternate days in the office so someone is always home with him but he is mostly never calm. he fights with the cats so bad I want to scream. I take him on walks and he’s constantly pulling, at the end of the walk, he gets super aggressive and attacks me- biting all over me, jumping, Zoomies, etc. when i getting ready to leave the house he knows and starts to attack me. I’ve bought him so many toys, bones, puzzles, etc. and he gets bored of them instantly he’s a very picky eater and I’m always chasing him to eat his meals. Does anyone else have a badly behaved cavapoo? Is it because I failed at training him? I’m at my wits end and don’t know what else to do to entertain this guy and keep him calm. I don’t think I can physically do much more because I’m constantly waiting on him hand and foot and it’s still not good enough. I got my Cavapoo puppy at 9 weeks and started her on Nutrisource puppy kibble, but she wouldn’t touch it. Out of worry, I tried home-cooked meals, but they had too much fiber and gave her bad diarrhea. Then I mixed kibble with broth (worked, but too much effort), switched to rice/chicken/sardines (she ate it but smelled like sardines), and now I’m back to kibble. Here’s where I’m stuck: I want her to grow up healthy and strong, and I know fresh human food feels better than kibble because it’s real food, but kibble is consistent and balanced. I just don’t want her missing nutrients or ending up unhealthy down the line. For those of you with healthy adult dogs — shiny coats, good energy, no stomach issues — what worked for you? As the title says, I am considering adopting a cavapoo as my next dog in the future. (I am not planning for this to be anytime soon as I'm not in a situation that would allow it. I already have 2 dogs and my apartment will not allow any more pets, I also have a cat, a hamster and 5 mice that they dont know about, so really, CANT have any more pets). It is also important to me that the dog is adopted, and not purchased from a breeder as I personally really like doodles, but I don't agree with the ethics of how they're bred. Mostly, I'm wondering from everyone's experience, is there any reason for choosing a cavapoo, instead of choosing a pure cavalier or poodle? I looooooove Cavaliers and would love to have one someday too, but they are a very unhealthy breed and that worries me a bit, so I was wondering if cavapoos are a bit healthier on average? I also really prefer a more light curl or wavy coat as opposed to the tight curls of a poodle. I work at a dog daycare and have met way more doodles than I could ever possibly count, and I know that people say their temperament can be bad because they are cross breeds, but, while I've met my fair share of aggressive doodles, none of them were cavapoos, so I'm also wondering if their personality is always really sweet and snuggly like a cavalier since that is one of my biggest draw to the breed. Anyways, any and all advice is appreciated. P.S. pic for post attention, this is not my dog, but like I said, I work at a dog daycare. If you aren’t prepared for constant love, shenanigans, and laughter. If you value having time completely to yourself. If you prefer dogs that don’t want snuggle all the time or give constant kisses. If you aren’t prepared to brush them at least once or twice a week. If you ever want to eat alone again. If you don’t want everyone in the world to swoon over your dog. If you aren’t ready for regular trips to the groomer (or becoming a groomer yourself). You don’t like ridiculously adorable dogs. What other reasons can you think of? My puppy, Jasper, is four months old. He is healthy after initial issues with Ear mites and Giardia. One vet rec was Rx dog food for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Our dog likes it so we have continued with that for now. I bought him based upon his photo and discussions with his breeder. My husband and I are thrilled with him. I did zero research on this breed; however, and since then I read that Cavalier Spaniels have so many health issues that Norway has banned breeding them. I am concerned about which of those Cavalier Spaniel health issues also often show up in Cavapoos? My wife and I got a cavapoo 2 weeks ago. She is very sweet, smart, and we love her. The only problem is that we both leave at 7am for work and she gets home at 3 to let her out. We keep her babygated in our small kitchen and she does fine (other than puppy accidents) when we are home she seems to be doing great with potty training. My question is… did we make a mistake getting a dog with such busy schedules? Will we be able to train her to pee outside when she pees in the kitchen all day because no one can let her out? We are considering installing a doggie door. Is this a bad idea? I am a 50+ lady who never had a dog before. I really want one but I’m afraid of how it would effect my cat who I love. My husband is against it but he vetoed the cat for decades and now loves her. I want an easy going low energy dog smaller then the cat or around that size. Poodle mix for low shedding. I have a large urban home with many stairs and a small yard. My yard is mostly plants not many playing spots. Also it gets extremely cold here for many months of the year. I think I want a cavapoo- cavalier King Charles poodle mix. Is getting a puppy a poor choice rather then an adult dog? I have no dog experience except playing with friends dogs. Where I live it is hard to find shelter dogs our humane society even gets pups from other cities to adopt and they get adopted asap. I got my puppy in July and she is absolutely perfect. She is a complete joy for my family and I. She's very social, loving, and smart. The thing is, I've been recently been bombarded with videos and posts (on tiktok specifically) about how doodles are unethical and terrible. I've also seen people refer to all of them as mutts. I don't know much about dog breeding and I was not the one to do any of the finalizing or adopting of the dog as I am a teenager but I just feel horrible knowing I could have an unethical 'mutt' and seeing people call them that makes me incredibly upset because it feels so derogatory and I adore my dog. Overall, I just feel incredibly insecure and upset because I love my dog to death and she is amazing but I'm worried about the breeding part. I love her and either way I won't stop loving her I just guess it freaks me out to hear people call them mutts or be angry.
