Ceiling fan not shutting off with breaker
One of the chains (fan control) for my ceiling fan broke and I’m looking to replace it, however, after going to the breaker box and switching off the living room power, it still keeps the light on. I tried multiple breakers to see if any would work, but they don’t seem to. Any reason for this? I’m going to keep trying to see if any other breakers work, but most of the ones left are labeled for my appliances, so I’m assuming probably not gonna work. submitted by /u/Afrentux to r/AskElectricians [link] [comments]

Install Flush Mount Ceiling Fan with Pancake Box
I’m trying to install a ceiling fan where I have an existing light fixture. My ceiling fan is a flush mount and after wiring it up I’m not really able to fit all of the wire nuts up into the shallow box. My ceiling fan doesn’t have a separate light kit so I plan to wire ceiling red to fan black, ceiling white to fan white, ceiling bare to fan green, and leaving the ceiling black capped. With the flush mount piece installed how can I get the wire nuts inside? Is the box too small? Are there any alternative options? Thanks for any and all help! submitted by /u/Able-Wallaby1782 to r/AskElectricians [link] [comments]

ISO: Help with wiring ceiling fans
I believe the image is enough to explain what’s going on and what I need accomplished. There are four 12/2 wires in a junction box above the location of the ceiling fan. I need to wire everything together so the switch controls the ceiling fan but leaves the rest of the circuit alone. Wires - to ceiling fan (aka CF) - to switch (aka SW) - to outlet (aka TO) - from outlet (aka FO) I don’t know how to word this in a googlable way or I wouldn’t bother ya’ll with what I would assume should be a simple/common problem. $1965 for a ceiling fan - quote check
Wanted to see if I got the “we don’t want to do this” quote, or instead a quote from an expensive business. This is the only ceiling fan in my house I haven’t replaced myself. It’s 15 feet up, and there is no wiring in the ceiling. The original owners back in the 80s or 90s installed it with some extension cord magic and it’s plugged into an outlet. Price does not include the cost of a fan which I purchased myself. Quote in pictures, rough breakdown as follows: Ladder Fee for high install - $300 Fan brace box - $370 Fan install - $377 25 ft wiring - $838 Total - $1965 Seems uh… seems a little expensive to me submitted by /u/jaxinator to r/AskElectricians [link] [comments]

Sick of the summer/pc heat...
I finally hit a wall with my office getting hot in the summer, so i ducted all the hot air out! 3d printed a box to fit to the back of the pc and a tight 90 to get the duct connected to the ceiling where a small box fan used to be. And i replaced the crappy box fan with a 6" in line fan. Now not only is my office cool, the AC runs substantially less, and my computer is running colder than ever! Water delta is down 6 degrees! Only downside is the noise, but its not too bad. Im thinking of lining the inside of the duct with daynamat to quiet it down more. submitted by /u/snoman298 to r/battlestations [link] [comments]

AITA for returning light fixtures and a ceiling fan on the last day of the return window after my husband refused to pay for installation?
Exactly 90 days ago, I bought two light fixtures and a ceiling fan to replace the old ones in our house—one of which broke off completely last year. I’ve been asking my husband to install them ever since I bought them, but he kept putting it off. Today was the last day to return them, and since nothing had been done, I finally got a professional quote: $600 for installation. When I told my husband, he got angry and said it was way too expensive and that we shouldn’t pay that kind of money. I reminded him that I’ve been asking him to do it for months, and he never got around to it. This situation reminded me of another time he bought ceiling fans a few years ago and never installed them. Three years later, when he finally opened the boxes, they were out of style and couldn’t get parts for it. So instead of letting that happen again and wasting more money, I returned the fixtures while I still could. Now he’s mad at me, saying I should have waited or that we could have figured something else out. But I didn’t want to risk missing the return window and wasting hundreds of dollars. So, AITA returning them? submitted by /u/Wonderful_Apricot842 to r/AITH [link] [comments]

No replacement bulbs for ceiling fan, have to buy a whole new fan
I bought all the ceiling fans in my home from Home Depot. I wanted them all to match throughout the house. I even bought Home Depot's in-house brand because I wanted to make sure I would have easy access to parts should anything happen to one. Well, the time came and one of my fans had the light panel go out (It's a panel of LED lights). I took the light to Home Depot and told them I just needed a new light to replace the one that went out. I had tried looking on the internet for a replacement, but there were only knock-offs that were unclear about whether or not it would work on my fan. The Customer Service agent just started yelling "Rico!" to some guy 50 meters away. Rico came over, took one look without any prompting or opener and said "You have to go through the manufacturer for that part". I told him that's why I was there. Home Depot is the manufacturer. This pissed off Rico. He said "Well there's nothing you can do because we don't sell those." So, I asked "How do I replace a light bulb on a product your company makes?" He said, "You have to buy a new fan". *Cue Malicious Compliance: I said, "Cool, I'll do that, then". So, I bought the new fan. I removed the light panel from it, replaced my light panel, put the old one back in the brand new box, and returned it, telling the customer service agent that Rico said I could return it if it didn't work out for me. She completed the return and I got my light bulb from Home Depot. Fuck you Rico, and the rest of the idiots who made that bad decision at Home Depot. Edit: a word Edit 2: to address a few reoccurring comments. I did tell them I'm returning it due to the light not working. If they sold it after that, that's on them. Rico was rude before I ever said a word. I was as polite as possible through the whole interaction. Rico never changed tone the entire time. Fuck Rico. I have no issue screwing over Home Depot. Even if it's just their name on someone else's product, I don't care. If that's how they want to play, then I will play my way. At this point I haven't seen anything new, so I'm not going to be responding any further. Thanks everyone for my highest rated post! And as always, Fuck Rico, and most importantly, fuck Home Depot. submitted by /u/turboiv to r/MaliciousCompliance [link] [comments]

Evergrande: SHFs and Tether using Chinese-commercial papers SHFs use Evergrande, Chinese commercial papers as assets for collateral and when these assets go to ZERO from being downrated to default by the agencies: Fitch, Moodys, and S&P then SHFs will panic sell crypto to maintain their shorting positions (or have they already started?). https://www.cnbc.com/2021/12/10/evergrande-slides-into-default-while-some-ratings-agencies-keep-quiet.html Here's that Bloomberg terminal screenshot revealing the Evergrande bagholders: Hi HSBC, #1 bagholder of Evergrande So wut mean? To put it into perspective, since Evergrande ($300 Billion) began moving towards bankruptcy: starting with insolvency processing, agencies downrating, and lastly liquidation event. It is putting downward pressure on SHFs collateral assets. Collateral that SHFs must put up to maintain their many, many short positions and particularly Gamestop, the most highly shorted stock -- "far exceeding other meme stocks" -- according to SEC. So with all the gLiTcHeS seen today on the crypto side, it's no surprise shit has already hit the fan. Okay, but where does Tether fit into this? Tether ($76 Billion market cap) is used as a "stable coin" to buy Bitcoin and process other coin transactions. It is a medium and it is screwed because it has no actual backing. From u/Door_Public and his DD "Tether Nuclear Bomb," here's a visual to show how Tether is smack-dab in the middle of everything related to crypto: Tether coin, USDT is reponsible for 60% of BTC transactions, yikes -- the crypto downfall will be insane, with so many buying crypto on 100x margin In the first week of December 2021 sell-offs, crypto liquidation from margin calls exceeded $2.6 Billion within 24 hours, and there is still more to come: https://www.coinglass.com/LiquidationData Tether claims to have reserves to back its coin but discovery has shown that there is no proof. Plus, there's even a $1 million bounty for anyone that can provide evidence that backing exists. https://hindenburgresearch.com/tether/ Furthermore, Tether claims to have real estate commercial paper assets to back it, but denies it is with Chinese Evergrande (trust me bro). In desperation, here's what they have to say: https://twitter.com/Tether_to/status/1466755823149924358 Where does this all end up? Back to one person and his cronies that started it all. Enter Pandora's Trap: "E.T.", Ceiling Boxed, & DRS: The Walls Are Closing In (E) Evergrande $300 Billion and (T) Tether $76 Billion, combined these two will wreck havoc on SHFs asset portfolio and decimate their collateral, forming walls that are closing in on when all rating agencies downgrade Evergrande to official "default" rating. Essentially, downrating will Thanos snap crypto and commercial papers out of existence which likely explains why Moodys and S&P have not downrated, yet. Hence, all the crazy shorting that is happening with Gamestop right now. They have no choice. Time is not on their side. The Ceiling Boxed They need to drive the price down with puts, a dangerous game, creating the Delta spike hypothesis for potentially massive green upside that u/yelyah2 has pointed out. TLDR: Conditions are primed right now for a significant increase in hedgie buying power. The delta sensitivity test spike is a harbinger of change, and more often then not... significant price increases.... Next, I defer to u/thabat in his latest DD by calling it "Ceiling Boxed" because the pressure of maintaining so many short positions on meme stonks is falling down upon them from the top. The Rising Floor And lastly, the impact of DRS is playing a major role in this and all you beautiful, diamond handed apes are the reason for it. Thank you -- because EVERY SINGLE SHARE MATTERS. It raises the FLOOR to close in on SHFs, removes available shares from the float, and puts an end to this ponzi scheme called Wall Street. An elaborate scheme designed to steal the American Dream and rob everyday people of happiness through low wages, debt-ridden life, and poverty. A visual to illustrate a SHF's pain: Pandora's Trap: made possible by Kenny Griffin, CEO of Citadel with Steve Cohen Point72, Melvin Capital, Susquehanna, State Street, Fidelity, BlackRock and many more colluding hedge funds & Prime Brokers JPM, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and more There is only one option to hasten the effects.. Hey, Listen! Only you can end this. DRS TO CHANGE THE GAME. POWER TO THE PLAYERS. 💎🙌🚀 Not financial advice. tldr: hedgies running out of time, options (lol), and getting boxed in for implosion by Evergrande & Tether, Meme stonk short positions, but most importantly DRS impact. The walls are closing on every side. We're in that part of the Big Short movie where the rating agencies have not put the label default on Evergrande so chinese commercial papers are still propping up collateral for SHFs which in turn are being used to maintain short positions on Gamestop. But soon, GameStop. Edit: u/dangshnizzle pointed out two missing sides on Pandora's Trap, so let's imagine the front and back as the stock market and crypto market, when it all begins to collapse. Truly a vicious trap that SHFs have found themselves in 🚀🚀🚀 submitted by /u/edwinbarnesc to r/Superstonk [link] [comments]

Novice: How do I tell if this is strong enough to support a ceiling fan?
New construction, was pre-wired for fan. Cannot access from attic to verify. Has a little give but feels sturdy when I wiggle it. Are there any signs that say this is "safe" for a ceiling fan? https://imgur.com/a/oOmI6ya Update #1: All, thanks so much for the overwhelming responses. I wanted to be 100% sure so I sucked it up, crawled into the, what in my mind, is zombie and spider filled attic, navigated the sea of pink insultation stuff, and slowly found studs to walk across. Poking around where I think the fan was with a stick, I was able to uncover a long support rod across the back of this outlet box. Thanks everyone so much for your help! I will post some updates as it goes. Update #2: I managed to make the needed modifications and get the fan installed, and it all works!! *Flex* Thanks everyone for the help I received, you're all awesome. :) Here's some progress and final pictures: https://imgur.com/a/in7znCp submitted by /u/Alicia-XTC to r/DIY [link] [comments]

I ordered a Logitech G29 motion controller from Flipkart. But got a ceiling fan and a speaker inside the box. Customer service kept me hanging for 10 days and now refuses to replace/refund. Please never buy from Flipkart. I am extremely disappointed. Breaks my heart.

LPT: Cool an entire apartment with a single box fan.
I developed this DIY strategy helping my [also broke] friends make their apartments livable during heat waves. The difference was like night and day. I sure didn't invent it, but I call this strategy The Corridor of Cool Blow out, not in. Yeah it seems weird, but this is the #1 secret to making this work. Blowing inwards makes a "jet" of air that cools one room very well, but for some reason an exhaust fan seems to make a "vacuum" that can suck in replacement air from an open window all the way across the house. That's the basic idea behind the Corridor of Cool. Choose an air path that goes through the entire place. If you open the window in the same room, air will only go through that room! Be sure and avoid "short circuits." Fill in any gaps around the fan with boxes or towels. If you do it right, you can actually feel a "wave" of cold air (the eponymous corridor of cool) start at the open window and move through the entire house. This takes about 20 minutes, so if you're testing this strategy don't give up right away! Run the fan at night, "storing up coolth" in the walls/floor/ceiling. This keeps the place much cooler in the morning, and delays the onset of sweltering heat during the day. You're getting "free" cooling from that night air. The open window should be on the cool side, preferably shady / vegetated. Suck in air from the place where you would be most comfortable. If the sun is hitting the wall it will warm the surrounding air, so prefer a north- or east-facing window. Go with the flow. Hot air rises, so exhaust on an upper floor. Take advantage of any wind. Minimize heat gain. Use curtains, sheets, or (yuck) foil over sunny windows. Close windows and turn off the fan when it's colder inside than out (especially in the morning), and turn the fan back on once the heat breaks. Simplest strategy: always run the fan, unless it's warmer out. Cool yourself. Not related to the above, but very effective. Wet shirts, wet hats, wet bandannas, drink cold water, point a small fan at your face, put your hands/feet in water, cool shower, eat spicy food, etc. Hope this helps some folks in this heat wave! edit: /u/genericusername4197 suggested in a sadly buried comment using a lamp timer to control the fan. I've done this, and it works great in case I sleep in or forget. Program it so the fan turns on at ~8 pm, and off at ~7 am. It still works better if you shut the windows tight in the morning, but this keeps the fan from sucking in too much hot air. Folks are also suggesting the fan-in-bucket-of-ice trick, but note that the freezer warms the room when it freezes ice. So don't try to "ice bucket cool" the entire room (especially the room the fridge is in, since the room will only get hotter), but instead aim the cold air at yourself. You can also make ice at night and use it during the day, "time shifting" heat from day to night. But imo the best use for ice is to drink it or put your hands in ice water, since this cools your body and little else. edit2: As several people have pointed out, the more humid it is the less well this works (still better than nothing, but watch for moisture/mold). Floridians despair. 😧 From discussion with /u/topgaming, if all someone has access to is a small desk fan, it probably won't move enough air to make this work. In that case aim the fan inward, preferably at yourself. But I have successfully done this with standing fans (cut cardboard to fill the gap, and if necessary remove the stand and hang just the fan part). If possible mount the fan in an attic hatch to ventilate the attic space too (big gainz), essentially making a poor man's whole-house fan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gon1BszK-h8&t=30s Oh and to everyone saying "just use A/C," yes that's obviously better. But some of it can't afford that (plus electricity!), yes, even at Walmart/craigslist prices. submitted by /u/spacex_fanny to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]
