I have now purchased 2 of the cell phone monitor style $17each from amazon, not perfect but for occasional use they do fine, looking into vw front ends, viewing hard to see places in the tractor. I prefer a handbag and in most instances leather. I was never interested in the crossbody, or those tiny things that I call a cell phone holder. New to FJ’n. Wondering what people do to charge their phones. I bought a mophie usb-c charger (pic) but now I have a bunch of cables hanging out. Was thinking of getting a cup holder MagSafe charger (I have an iPhone) with a short cable but have not been able to find one that looks decent. Any suggestions? Good Morning Fellow Teachers! I am a high school teacher and on Friday I witnessed some awful student behavior. I'm a veteran teacher with years of experience teaching PreK through 12th grade in three different states, both private and public schools. Not only do I have a Masters in my content area, but an additional Masters in Special Ed. I've worked in both urban and rural schools. I've had thousands of students come through my classroom over the years. Back to the behavior ... if you act like a child, I will have to treat a high schooler like a child and reach out to the parents. Apparently, this sweet angel has never once had a problem in 16 years. I let Mom and Dad know that after 3 weeks of behavioral issues and several interventions this behavior is unacceptable and their son will face more severe consequences if this continues. Among the behaviors that I carefully documented was his cell phone usage. (The others included: ganging up to verbally bully a student with disabilities, constant disruptions, talking while I'm talking, getting out of his seat randomly to go "chill with his bros", not working at all ... the list goes on and on.) In a response email, the mom says that she has never heard of any problem with him and suggests that I hang a shoe-holder on the wall to organize the cell phones. I actually read the email at home and in front of my small child said, "Are you f@%#& kidding me? Thank you for the teaching advice." So for all you teachers out there who are in this cell phone war, it is as simple as "hanging a shoe organizer". Follow-up, I told the class I will just start throwing the phones out of our second story window that doesn't have any screens. I'll start with I'm not a teacher, but I am an advocate. I tried to be one when I was in college, but burnt out quickly. Now, I find simple solutions to complex problems for a living. That said, this one was not my idea. It was my son's principal's idea. I am writing this hoping that some admin sees it and thinks it may work for them. Every class has one of those bags that holds 36 cell phones. It's hung up somewhere near the door. Every kid is expected to put their phone in their spot. During class, the teacher uses this bag to take roll. They don't have to mention anything to the kids. No phone, you're absent. When marked absent, parents get an automated call. No work can be turned in on a day that you're absent, so no work will be accepted. There is no arguing with the kids. Teachers don't have to say a word. Just follow protocol. So, you ask, what if a kid says they don't have a phone? They are sent to the office to pick up a "dummy phone" to put in the holder. An email is sent to the parent asking if there snowflake has a phone. Ok, sounds good, but kids are assholes. They will cheatl. Our school uses Chromebooks. Teachers can screengrab and turn on the camera from their desk. If a kid is hiding a phone behind their Chromebook, they snap a Pic and email it to admin. Again, no need to confront the twerp. Then, an AP or campus cop meets the kid in the hallway after class. Punishment is then handed out by admin. Most kids give up trying to cheat the system by week 2 or 3. This has worked so well. The kids can have their security blanket at school. Teachers can teach. And admin handles the punishments. Now, I realize this won't work everywhere. It requires some tech, some software training, and admin to be staffed enough and care enough to want to be part of the solution. We are a high school of about 1400 kids. We have 3-6 security personnel at all times, 5 APs, and a principal that is VERY engaged. And now, we have teachers who can just teach. No need to argue with the shits. Document and send to admin. I tried to go to a baseball game last night with my fiance and was turned away because my everyday purse was too big and not clear. It's a ratty crossbody from target MAYBE 12"x12". The men in my life have no problems under these restrictions as everything they could reasonably need can fit in their pocket. I on the other hand, need to somehow carry a phone, a wall, my car keys, medication, tampon and maxipad in my jean pocket that won't even fit my cell phone. I sit throught the whole game with all my valuables exposed to the world in the cup holder of the open air stadium. The game ends at 10pm and my car is parked 5 blocks away, and I'm holding all my valuables in my hands for the world to see. (In this case my fiance was there with me, but that's not the point, ya know??) Ladies- can we start a movement to end this crap? Like let's all drag our maxipads into the events in a ziplock around our necks. Lets make noise so we can have our purses back. Edit: minor league baseball at a local, minor-league-only ballpark. Jeremiah Jamal Parker (19) was last seen by his cousin (or friend, sources differ, but I will refer to this person as "his cousin" for this writeup) at North Sherwood Forest Park in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on April 1, 2004 or April 11, 2004 (Easter Sunday). He had been driving with his cousin before stopping at the park at around 6:00 p.m., stating he needed to find his missing cell phone holder. Parker's cousin waited in the car while the engine was left running, but Parker himself never returned. He was last seen walking behind a row of trees near a fishing pond. A subsequent search only uncovered his cell phone and one of his shoes approximately fifty yards away from his car. During his disappearance, Parker was a student at Baton Rouge Community College and worked at a Wendy's restaurant. He had never gone missing before, and is said to have never spent a night away from home without telling his parents. It is unknown what caused his disappearance, although he had seen The Passion of the Christ shortly prior to his disappearance and had been heavily affected by it. After watching it, he told his relatives he would be "leaving soon." Not sure if this has anything to do with his case, but something of interest nonetheless. It is theorized he may have since traveled to Canada, but no trace of him has ever been found. (It's not clear at all this theory exists, information on this case is quite scant.) If still alive, he would be 39-years-old today. On a side note, I looked this park up and doesn't appear to be as wooded as its name suggests. Granted, this is how the park appears now and things may have been different back then, but it's very hard to imagine someone getting disoriented there. This is one of the strangest cases I've come across and sadly it doesn't appear like it will get resolved anytime soon. There are also no DNA samples submitted apparently... not very reassuring. EDIT: As brought up by u/UnnamedRealities, assuming Parker disappeared on Easter Sunday on April 11 and not April 1, this would mean there should have been very many people present throughout the day and Parker likely had been at a picnic or fishing in the park sometime prior to his disappearance, which would explain him losing his phone holder. EDIT 2: u/theduder3210 was able to find an old article stating that the pond had been searched by a police dive team on April 13, 2004. Was scrolling through Reddit and saw someone complaining about how they were stuck behind cell phones for 3 hours trying to watch a live event. A relatively simple solution to encourage people to put away their cell phones and enjoy the show, would be to have a recording of the show available to download or stream to people who bought tickets. Do you thing it would work? Would you put your cell phone down if this was offered to you? Edit: So the consensus is that this wouldn't work. Most people people want to capture something for Social Media.
