I'm surprised that there aren't any special Chess pieces in the shop that have unique or powerful abilities. Even just regular chess pieces with more unique movement. Like a special pawn that could move two squares to the left or right. Maybe a legendary rook that places a protection square after it moves (once per game).

Hey r/chess! I've done AMAs before, but this one is special. With the release of Dark Squares, I share a part of my life that has never been told before. I share my experience growing up in a cult, how the cult directed me into chess, and how I ultimately became a leader at Chess.com. Of course, you are welcome to ask me anything - about Chess.com, Magnus, Hikaru, etc. - I'll answer as many questions as I can! But, I'd be particularly happy to answer questions about my life. Many in the community have witnessed part of this story, including my childhood in chess and the Shelby School's multiple national championships. But not many know the challenges and trauma I've faced along the way, and how chess saved my life. Writing Dark Squares has been a difficult process, but also a cleansing and healing one. In recent weeks, I've done a number of interviews and podcasts in non-chess media, but on publication day (today), I wanted to bring things full circle with an AMA in the chess community! The chess hustlers in Washington Square Park are much worse than I thought
Played a bunch of games today and I won 4/7 games (split between 5 different guys) as a 1500 on chess.com. Definitely some strong players (the top ones are probably 1900-2100) but everyone online made it seem like they were all undercover IMs and borderline GM. Fair warning, they will cheat you out of your money no matter who wins. I didn’t get paid a single dollar of the games I won and spent ~$20 on the games I lost. As soon as you win, they remember the money wasn’t a bet but a “donation” (no clarification on this at the start) or leave to “use the bathroom” and don’t come back until you’re gone.
