The lack of cohesive plot was the least of the show’s problems. The entire production was abysmal. Ok yes they’re all great singers, whoop-de-doo. The scenic design was non existent; projections were so cheap and kitsch. Totally unbecoming of a legit Broadway show. The sets were cheap was well and the entire show was staged more like a concert than a real production. But what takes the cake were the so-called Russian accents that were more like Borat than Boris. I believe I detected a few chuckles every time Nicholas Christopher delivered a line. I cannot believe that was allowed to go live on stage. Someone should have killed the show before they were allowed to debut in that condition. Cringe-worthy doesn’t even begin to describe it. I genuinely don’t understand the love for this show, or, more importantly, this production. It was an insult to theatre goers. I’ve been playing this stupid game for 5 years on and off, and have come to the conclusion that this is not a thoughtful or skillful game that promotes anything useful or fun. I’m hanging up my chess pants and moving on. Just for reference Im a fighting game player primarily wherein I’m within the top 500 worldwide consistently and I will be basing my post off of what I understand games to be in terms of mental flexibility, and thought patterns. I sincerely don’t mean to insult anyone with my title or the contents so if you get offended please just scroll on. From my years of playing chess I have noticed the game is mostly just a memorization based fundamental game, I completely hate that to my core. There is no room creativity or freedom of decision from move to move. To be quite honest it disgusts me that I can’t put my soul into my moves, but instead I have to say “where have I seen this position before and who did it correctly” everything has been done on a functional level. The game works perfectly there is no inherent design flaw but calling it a “game” is honestly distasteful. There is no mix up, there is no diversion, there is no whiff, there is no punish, There is no soul. The simplicity of the game kills it for me, everything is there, it all exists in the moment right in front of you, there is nothing to hide, there is nothing. If you look at fighting games they do consistently what chess is on a micro level to a macro scale. You have neutral, you have oki, you have 3 ways, you have air to air, you have safe jumps, and tech crouches, and counters, and supers, and inputs, you have freedom of response and spatial movement, reactions that you have to actually use spatial awareness with fine tuned decisions to respond to, and that’s just a fraction of it. Not only is the skill ceiling astronomically higher so is the skill floor. When you fight a new player you can feel the genuine levels between you and them, in chess is simply “oh this guy doesn’t even know en passant exists, I’m gonna fork his rook and bishop lmao”. Im done with this game, I can’t take the brain rotting skull numbing absurdity of effortless memory regurgitation any longer. It’s so pointless and ego driven and it’s only a let down. Chess is for people who want something to be good at and failed at absolutely everything else except pointless memorization of redundant data. I’m sorry for ranting I fucking hate this game. This is a recent clip from one of my buddy's game. He's been playing chess for a while but has been playing almost daily for the past 8 months but has been struggling to get passed 300. He's a grown man with a graduate degree. He refuses to take advice but gets mad he can't climb. I look forward to opening the chess app each day hoping to find a new game that was played so I can witness the glory that will unfold in front of my eyes. The most common insult you will find in chess circles is "oh look at this 600 elo scrub." And it's true. At a chesscom rating of 600, games are almost entirely decided by who makes the fewest one move blunders. An accuracy of 30% is not only expected, it's celebrated. The concept of tactics and strategy fly out the window. At 600, misunderstood geniuses blaze new roads of theory every other game. Checkmate isn't a goal, it's a suggestion. They probably don't even know about en passant! And yet.. the average 600 will put belt to ass against every single person they know. I was 600 double and triple adopting classmates. Hell, I was 600 and basically hosting simuls. The average human being is so unfathomably trash at chess that a 600 will absolutely crush, in less than 15 moves, most people they will ever meet. All this to say is... it's all relative at the end of the day. You might be the burnt cake at the back of the oven in the chess world, but in the real world you're a wedding cake... or something. I find this rule fundamentally stupid. If the king is not in check, cannot move but is the only piece that can move, it should be forced to move to an attacked square and be taken and lost. Imagine if this was done at boxing. You hit your oponent and he goes down but cannot get up. By dumb chess logic as you are not allowed to hit him when hes down and he cannot get up, its a draw. After studying seriously for once, i reached 1500 on chess.com a few weeks ago and holy s*it! The 1500s level is totally different,It's like I'm playing a different game all together!
