I tried matcha with every milk that I could find and here are my thoughts PART 2
Hello! It's me again. I did a post like this a bit ago and it blew up! You can view my previous post here: Link Thank you to everyone who gave me more recommendations of different dairy-free milks to try with matcha! I was able to find most of them at my local Sprouts, and it ended up being about $100 worth (USD) haha. There are a LOT of milks to try, so I'll probably make multiple posts until I get through them all. To recap, normally I would use Fairlife's lactose-free 2% milk until cows milk started giving me hives, which led me down this rabbit hole of trying different dairy-free milks with my daily matcha. For reference, my proportions I use are 2 scoops matcha with my chashaku, 1/4 cup water at 80°C, and 3/4 cup milk. I'm also using the Nichijo matcha from Den's Tea as a constant. Most of the time I don't add any sweetener, but a tiny bit of honey is nice sometimes. Also, yes, I've tried matcha by itself before. It's good too, I just prefer it with milk. Without further ado, here is part 2 of my thoughts on some more dairy-free milks! Hainan Yeshu coconut juice Milkadamia unsweetened macadamia milk Coconut Malk, unsweetened Oat Malk Elmhurst unsweetened hazelnut milk Elmhurst barista pistachio milk Hainan Yeshu coconut juice: Iced: I already like this drink on its own, and it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS pairing it with matcha. I will say though, the coconut flavor is very strong. It tasted like 80% coconut and 20% matcha flavor. I'd probably need to make koicha matcha with this combo, but other than that, 10/10 would drink again. Milkadamia unsweetened macadamia milk: Iced: I had the barista version of this macadamia milk in my last post, so I wanted to try this version. It was fine. The macadamia milk was more thin than I'd like, but flavor-wise it was pretty neutral. Hot: It kinda started separating? There were tiny white flakes after I heated it. Not sure why it did that. It didn't affect the flavor in any significant way, maybe the texture was off a tiny bit. I think I prefer hot matcha with this milk, but I had to not think about the white flecks. Coconut Malk, unsweetened: Iced: This was awesome! The coconut was really clean and complemented the matcha very well. I could taste the coconut more on the front. The flavor balance was closer to 50% coconut and 50% matcha, compared to the Hainan Yeshu coconut juice. I'd like to try mixing Coconut Malk with another milk next time! Hot: This was pretty nice too but not as nice as when I had it iced. Even though I used the same proportions, the coconut flavor seemed stronger when drinking it hot, especially the aftertaste. It reminded me of Thai mango sticky rice, except switch the mango with matcha. However, as my matcha cooled down, I started feeling an odd coconut oil-y mouthfeel. My last few sips were unpleasant. Oat Malk: Iced: It was enjoyable! This is probably the best tasting oat milk I've tried so far, especially drinking it straight from the carton. Very clean and had a strong oaty flavor. Pairing it with matcha though, I didn't quite like it as much as I thought. The oat flavor was strong for my preference. I'd probably use less next time. Hot: The oat flavor came through even stronger when drinking it with hot matcha. It kinda tasted like I was eating a bowl of oatmeal. It would also constantly separate much like how miso separates in miso soup. Taste-wise, it was fine, although I think it tasted better iced. Elmhurst hazelnut milk: Iced: A lot of people in my previous post mentioned hazelnut milk, but when I tried it, I thought it was fine. I liked how neutral it tasted with matcha, but at the same time, I feel like it coated my mouth with this starch-like texture that I couldn't shake. I wonder if another brand of hazelnut milk is better. Hot: It was as I feared. The starchy texture was even more prominent when drinking hot matcha. My husband and I were fighting who would finish drinking it cuz neither of us wanted our good matcha to go to waste. I think this is the worst dairy-free milk paired with matcha so far. I don't know. I'm willing to give it another chance with another brand, but this was just not it. Elmhurst barista pistachio milk: Iced: This was delicious! I was worried if a starchy texture was something in all Elmhurst milks, but this one didn't have that. My matcha had a very nice subtle pistachio aftertaste, and overall it complemented the matcha pretty well. Hot: This was surprisingly very good! I think the barista pistachio milk has been the most consistent of all the milks with matcha so far. It tasted great both iced and hot. I also experimented combining different milks! These are all gonna be iced. 50% Coconut Malk, 50% Oat Malk: This was super good. I experimented making this combo with the organic koicha matcha from Den's Tea (and also made koicha by doubling the matcha and halving the water proportion), and wow it was a lot of matcha! I started feeling a bit of the caffeine jitters. Maybe I'll just stick to usucha for now lol. But other than that, I loved the flavor! Coconut, oat, and matcha is a nice combo. 50% Coconut Malk, 50% Elmhurst hazelnut milk: Hmm, flavor-wise, I prefer this more than mixing Coconut Malk with Oat Malk, but I was still getting that starch-like texture from the hazelnut milk. 50% Coconut Malk, 50% Milkadamia Macadamia milk: I liked this one more than hazelnut and oat! The macadamia milk was already pretty neutral, so all it did was assist the coconut and matcha flavor without being too overwhelming. I ran out of Coconut Malk at this point, and this post is getting long already. Overall verdict: Out of all the dairy-free milks I've tried, Coconut Malk with iced matcha has been my favorite so far. Barista pistachio milk also blew me away. I think I still enjoy the Kirkland oat milk too, but I haven't tried that one in a while, so I gotta compare it again with these new milks. Stay tuned, here are the rest of the dairy-free milks in my pantry to try for my next post: Elmhurst unsweetened pistachio milk Elmhurst unsweetened cashew milk Elmhurst unsweetened walnut milk Califa barista oat milk Good Karma unsweetened flax milk Summerhill goat milk Trader Joe's unsweetened coconut beverage Trader Joe's unsweetened soy beverage Trader Joe's rice beverage Trader Joe's oat beverage Pecana unsweetened pecan milk Coconut Malk unsweetened creamer submitted by /u/KeepCalmToKeepCalm to r/MatchaEverything [link] [comments]

Question regarding coconut milk.
So I've read a whole bunch of recipes that require coconut milk, is this tins of coconut milk or cartons of coconut milk, like soy or oat? Some recipes say tins but others just state "coconut milk" so I'm a little unsure and don't want to mess up recipes. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/Boomstick_316 to r/ninjacreami [link] [comments]

WIBTA for not using coconut milk in the curry?
I(19m) was raised by my grandparents due to my parents’ drug issues. My grandpa loves curry so we have ‘curry Friday.’ Grandma used to use coconut milk for the dish, which isn’t actually a necessary ingredient for our curry. But it is quite popular, adding a rich, creamy texture. My best friend’s mom, who is a hotel chef, said that the majority of the restaurants in our country probably use it. But she no longer uses the ingredient due to Grandpa’s blood test/health check up results. Said that it’s too high in fat and told me that I should refrain from using it when cooking for him. He’s also already been prohibited from using the kitchen but for another reason. Forgot to turn off the gas stove. So I always cook when she’s away/busy. She is currently out of town on a visit to my aunt and cousin. Grandpa told me to cook him the meal with coconut milk. When I brought up his health, he said one serving won’t hurt and when I get to his age I’ll feel the same way, wanting to enjoy good food instead of being worried all the time. That it’s his choice. UPDATE : Just went to the supermarket to get low fat coconut milk. submitted by /u/Apart_Deal_3015 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Just got in a fight about if coconut milk was dairy
Right, so I’m a food runner/bus boy at a pub. On the menu we sell “tofu coconut curry”. A guest asked her waitress if she could have it without dairy. When the waitress asked the chef, he said “yes. As long as I don’t put the coconut milk in it.” Which I know is wrong, because my mother was vegan for 6 years, and still doesn’t drink milk to this day. I tried to tell him so, he tells me to eff off. I try telling my manager, she says “if it doesn’t have dairy, then why does it say coconut MILK.” Honestly feels like I’m the only sane one in this place most days. submitted by /u/Ahappypikachu11 to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

coconut milk base consistency like almond milk?
I tend to use Alani shakes or muscle milk as a base. I know that when using almond milk, the texture is more icy, and I am not a fan of that. I was wondering if anybody has experimented with coconut milk and had a better and more creamy texture than the almond milk. I also was wondering about cashew milk in the same way. submitted by /u/Dangerous_Falcon_822 to r/ninjacreami [link] [comments]

How do we feel about coconut milk?
I'm primarily vegetarian and love making curries for meal prep for the week. They're tasty, easy to make and involve lots of veggies and beans. However, they also usually have a can of coconut milk to add creaminess and I've heard mixed things about if it's bad or good for you. I know it's high in fat, but how concerned should I be about it? submitted by /u/climber_cass to r/nutrition [link] [comments]

May I ask why coconut cream/milk is bad?
I'm thinking of eating healthier, so I keep returning here for advice. Coconut cream/milk seems to be a nono here, but why? Any help is appreciated. submitted by

Coconut milk is better than cow's milk.
It's thicker, richer, and creamier. It has a more complex flavor than cow's milk that works in several different contexts (whether that be baking, cooking, dessert-making, etc.). It's also a lot more nutritious, as it has a lot more potassium and iron than cow's milk. It's also good for several different diets and eating patterns, as it works for vegetarians, vegans, lactose-intolerant individuals, and several other groups. It's also a little bit healthier than milk in terms of calories and energy, as it has far fewer carbs and cholesterol than cow's milk. Overall, coconut milk is the superior milk. submitted by /u/Rainbowman1070 to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]
