Any coffee shop success stories?
Seems like the general consensus is that opening a coffee shop is a great way to light money on fire. This probably sounds stupid, but I’ve always had an affinity for those overpriced coffee shops where you pay way more than you should for a mediocre latte, but the ambiance keeps you coming back. The decor, lighting, music, a fun or unique menu, etc always would keep me coming back, had nothing to do with the coffee itself. Seeing how well my hometowns overpriced keurig pod shop did got me thinking about starting my own somewhere. I know one day I’ll burn out of my stupid high demand finance job that I have zero passion for. When that day comes, I know I’ll want to do something that makes me feel passionate. However, I understand that living costs money, and for the most part everyone here says coffee shops don’t make money. Is this Reddit echo chamber? Or were coffee shops really that impossible to turn a profit on. Any success stories here? submitted by /u/GuinnessEnjoyer7 to r/smallbusiness [link] [comments]

starting a coffee shop is hard
so, I've started this small coffee shop in town, thinking it would be a dream come true. honestly, I didn't realize how much work it takes. I'm talking about waking up before the sun and heading to bed way too late. I swear, coffee isn't just for customers, it's basically what's keeping me alive right now. it's not just making coffee, it's the whole package. making sure the place looks nice and tidy, dealing with suppliers who always seem to be late, and those random health inspections that show up when you least expect them. also, figuring out the right amount of stock is like trying to predict the future or something. oh and, customer complaints. no matter how perfect you try to be, there will always be someone who’s unhappy about their latte. like, come on, sometimes I can't even remember if I had breakfast. anyway, hopefully it gets better or at least more manageable. I'm hanging in there, fueled by caffeine and a bit of stubbornness. if anyone's got any advice or wants to commiserate, I'm all ears. submitted by /u/SundaeNo6154 to r/smallbusiness [link] [comments]

My dad lent me 600k to open a coffee shop. I used it to trade stocks while searching for supplies and a location. I ended up doubling the money in a year and eventually scrapped the coffee shop business plan.
I randomly became a full-time stock trader. Edited: A lot of people asked which stocks I bought, so I’m updating the post here: AMD at 85, sold at 250 TSLA at 280, sold at 410-450 SOXL at 12, sold at 35 UNH calls, sold when the stock was at 380-ish INTC calls and shares at 23, sold at 45 RDDT at 100, sold at 200 ENPH shares and calls at 26, sold the short-dated calls and still holding shares/ LEAP calls Also sold a lot of cash-secured puts throughout the year Edited 2: Stocks I am playing next: NOW, ORCL, BULL, SMCI, FOUR, SMR Edited 3: Many people ask how do I pick stocks? My strategy is pretty simple and straightforward. When I see good companies with solid fundamentals got trashed, I see opportunities. On the other hand, if a company gets hyped everywhere, I hit sell. In trading terms, I buy leaps/ calls/ sell puts at extreme oversold levels (AMD, UNH, INTC, ENPH you name it), and when RSI is overbought, I sell. submitted by /u/borninAlphaCentauri to r/TheRaceTo10Million [link] [comments]

Guy kept cutting in line at the coffee shop, so I made his morning routine miserable
There's a coffee shop I go to every morning before work. Small place, usually has a line of 5-6 people. There's this one guy who would show up, see the line, and then pretend to "just remember" he needed to ask the barista a question. He'd walk up to the counter, ask something stupid like what size the medium is, and then conveniently just order while he was already up there. He did this at least four times that I witnessed. Nobody ever called him out because, you know, confrontation before coffee isn't worth it. So I started playing the same game. Whenever I'd see him walk in and start heading toward the counter with his "I have a question" routine, I'd quickly step out of line and beat him to it. Then I'd ask the most annoying, time-consuming questions possible. "What's the difference between a latte and a cappuccino again?" "Do you have oat milk? What about almond? Soy? Which one froths better?" "Can you explain your whole pastry selection?" And then I'd say "Oh actually, let me get back in line and think about it" and go back to my spot. He'd be stuck standing there looking like an idiot. After about a week of this, he started just waiting in line like a normal person. Problem solved. Haven't seen him try to cut since. submitted by /u/Wings_of_Pastrami_91 to r/pettyrevenge [link] [comments]

Overheard at the coffee shop: two college girls “studying”
There was a lot of quotable conversation from these two students but here are the highlights: - I think the paperclip in this story represents her vagina, and he like stole her paperclip so he symbolically stole her vagina, but there are literally so many things in this story that represent vaginas - I don’t understand history at all. People fought wars over the dumbest things. Like, the whole revolutionary war could have been settled over a cup of tea. And World War One was started just because someone shot Franz Kafka - The Roman Empire makes no sense. I mean how were they in Italy AND Jerusalem? - The other day I was reading about Protestants and it hit me…They’re called Protestants because they were “PROTESTING”! - everyone from New York is either Jewish, gay, or smart. And there’s like a lot of overlap there too. What do think our professor is? He’s at least two… submitted by /u/squirrels-mock-me to r/overheard [link] [comments]

Struggling coffee shop owner — need advice from others in the same boat
Hey everyone, I own a small coffee shop — it’s about 60 square meters with 6 tables. We’ve been open for a little over a year now. I’ve tried running different campaigns and promotions, but none of them really brought consistent results. In the last two months, the business has just been breaking even — not losing money, but not really growing either. At this point, I’m not sure what strategy to apply next. Should I focus more on marketing, the menu, customer experience, or something else entirely? Would really appreciate hearing from other coffee shop owners or anyone with experience in small hospitality businesses. Only noticed the sticker once I got back in the car. I've been supporting this small local coffee shop (Invita) since I moved to the area... the gasp I gasped as soon as I saw it. I'm not surprised there are supporters in this particular area, but I am pretty shocked this place has the gumption to take a pretty divisive stance; and for something as innocuous as a coffee sticker? Please don't open a coffee shop business.
Unless you really have a vision & dedication to invest millions to build a strong brand, please invest your money elsewhere. Sobrang saturated na ng market with coffee chains & bootstrapped local cafes. It has become the new "milktea" trend. Started my own shop din, and boy let me tell you sobrang hirap. Masarap/quality coffee mo? Guess what, that means nothing kasi there's hundreds of cafes na masarap/quality din. If you started before pandemic & survived, congrats kasi you're good and entered while may room for growth pa sa market. Nowadays, with the very aggresive expansion ng coffee chains like Zus Coffee, and the trend sa socmed that's glorifying the industry, wala na mga beh as in. Based on experience, consider this before starting: You have millions to burn. Do a quick search of an interview ng owner ng Candid Coffee. Based dun, it would take around 3-5 million to build a solid brick & mortar store (if memory serves me right). That's everything from picking a prime location, setting up the shop, marketing, etc. If you don't have that kind of capital, then it's best to stop and consider other ventures. You are a marketing virtuoso. Yeah can start naman with small capital, which is part of the problem din kasi walang masyadong barrier to entry. But if you do, make sure you can market the sh*t out of your brand. I'm not even exagerating. Most of the "success stories" na cafes, it was because they we're smart and aggresive with marketing lalo na sa socmed like Tiktok. Have a clear USP, invest wisely on marketing campaigns kasi not every marketing opportunity will yield results. Location If wala pang coffee shop sa lugar nyo (which I HIGHLY DOUBT is the case), then go grab the opportunity. Restaurant concept Based on observation, yung mga local cafes that are able to survive and thrive ay yung mga cafes na may extensive food menu. Pinoys love to eat nga naman. Tapos yung coffee ay parang additional na lng ganon. My shop focused on coffee & definitely missed out on this revenue stream. As for myself? I'll be closing my shop soon. My passion for coffee, and yung compliments ng mga regulars ko sadly don't pay the bills. Hundreds of pesos lost, but lessons learned. submitted by /u/Agitated_Revenue_577 to r/phinvest [link] [comments]

we need to normalize bringing reusable cups to coffee/boba shops
Saw this trash can at my local outlet mall :-( I don't think there's anything wrong with getting coffee/boba/fun drinks out. I personally find it very fun and a rewarding little treat for myself. However I find the use of disposable plastic cups to be so incredibly wasteful. Let's please normalize asking baristas if they can make our drinks in a metal coffee thermos we bring from home! I know due to company policies not every coffee place will allow customers to do this but I think there is no harm in asking. Plastic cups are seriously so wasteful, accumulate easily and end up in the streets/sewers. submitted by /u/trap_queen_aya13 to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

There is no money in the coffee business.
I might get a lot of hate for this but anyone who owns a coffee shop or a coffee business barely makes any livable money. The reason most open a coffee shop is because they are really passionate about coffee and have been making coffee their entire life ( worked as a barista) and thought that opening a coffee business would be a vialble business but in reality working a 9-5 job is much better with guranteed pay, holidays and stress free mind. The risk-reward ratio for opening and running a coffee business is extremely high considering how much investment it takes to open a coffee shop for extremely low profit margin. A friend of mine runs a speciality coffee shop with only 3 employees and has a revenue of over 700k, yet he barely makes 70k on net profit. He was working as a designer and making 95k with unlimited PTO at a tech company before this but now he only takes 1 day off a week for the past 2 years. submitted by /u/Sad_Band9917 to r/smallbusiness [link] [comments]
