Is Customer Service trending?

Customer Service declining with a month-over-month change of -5.23% over the past 5 years, though it still receives approximately 201,000 monthly searches.

Why is Customer Service trending?

1
Increased Consumer Expectations
With the rise of e-commerce and social media, consumers now expect quick and efficient responses to their inquiries and issues. This has led businesses to prioritize customer service to meet these heightened expectations.
2
Brand Loyalty and Retention
Excellent customer service fosters brand loyalty, encouraging customers to return and make repeat purchases. Companies recognize that retaining existing customers is often more cost-effective than acquiring new ones.
3
Competitive Advantage
In a crowded marketplace, outstanding customer service can differentiate a brand from its competitors. Businesses are increasingly investing in customer service as a key strategy to stand out and attract customers.
4
Impact of Online Reviews
Online reviews and ratings significantly influence consumer decisions. Positive customer service experiences lead to favorable reviews, while negative experiences can harm a brand's reputation, prompting businesses to enhance their service quality.
5
Technological Advancements
The integration of technology, such as chatbots and AI-driven customer support, has made it easier for businesses to provide timely and efficient service. This trend is driving the popularity of customer service as companies seek to leverage technology for better customer interactions.

Just started my customer service job and I am miserable
The job market is bad and this was the only one that took me in after months of applying for jobs. I’m an extreme introvert by nature, diagnosed with severe depression and PTSD, and these qualities definitely do not align with people who work in this industry. Fortunately the job is remote but at the same time, I still struggle with speaking. After every call I break down for a few minutes before bringing myself together. Had I not been close to homelessness I would’ve never taken this job. I’ve been trying to see the upside of the job such as learning to talk to people again after suffering traumatic experiences , and taking accountability for the information I deliver. But my gosh do customers suck. I got raged at for something out of the company’s control, and got called stupid. The lack of mutual respect is appalling and I take it too heart too often. I don’t know what I should do to stop letting it get to me. submitted by /u/Due_Let_750 to r/CustomerService [link] [comments]

You should teach your kids to 1) clean up after themselves 2) treat customer service workers with respect.
When I was a much younger man, I worked as a shift manager at a McDonald's in the UK. One day there was a young-ish mother with 3 kids in the restaurant, probably ranging from 8 to 13. They were running riot, which was annoying but fine. It was only when they left I realised the extent of the state they'd left things. The girl working the dining area came up to me looking a bit pissed off and said I might want to get someone to come cover her as "this is going to take a while". I went to take a look and told her instead that I'd take care of it, as I felt bad for her. The entire table was littered with food and empty boxes - that's not a big deal, I never expected people to clear their tables. However, what the kids had also done was smear ketchup all over the seats and the wall. This wasn't accidental, you could see their hand prints where they had tried to write things in the sauce. I found they had also chewed their fries and then spat it out and stuck it all to the underside of the table. The mother had just watched them do this and not said a word. But there, right in the middle of the table amongst the empty sauce packets, half eaten burgers and shredded Happy Meal boxes was a small purse and 4 cinema tickets. I grabbed a bin bag and swept the entire lot into it. Food, trash, cinema tickets, everything. I then cleared a couple more tables and added the contents of one of the food waste bins from the kitchen and took it out the back door, subtly marking the specific bag so I'd know which one it was. About 45 minutes later, Mum and kids come storming back into the restaurant, and she's looking a little panicky. She explains what she's lost, to which I reply something along the lines of "I'm terribly sorry, the table was just such a mess there was no way I'd have been able to spot any personal items amongst it. I cleared this area myself, so I can show you exactly which bin bag it was in." We were much quieter now, so I immediately sent the lobby girl on lunch, so there's be no way she'd be guilted into helping. The Mum was seething with rage and told me I should go through it for her. I refused, very bluntly telling her it's not my problem. Knowing the movie started soon, I reminded her she didn't have much time to wait for someone else to do it and went back inside. I waited a while and came back out. As she was digging through the trash in the bin area, hands covered in sauce and half chewed food, I said in the chirpiest voice I could: "I recommend in future you not let your kids purposely make such a mess." submitted by /u/FreshNewAccount24 to r/pettyrevenge [link] [comments]

Breaking Free from Customer Service?
I was recently made redundant as the sole customer support representative for a non-profit running international events with 1,000+ attendees. Over four years of remote work, I handled end-to-end support across B2C and B2B channels, managed multilingual communication, processed refunds, submitted dispute evidence for PayPal and Stripe, managed customer credit, and monitored social media (Facebook and Instagram). I handled technical issues and used HubSpot, Zendesk, Microsoft Teams, Asana, and WordPress. I also collaborated with vendors, speakers, volunteers, and internal teams to ensure smooth event delivery, while using customer feedback to improve the experience and internal processes. Im 31F, currently live in Germany (not fluent) and am looking for remote work where I can leverage my experience and take on more responsibility. I’m motivated by growth and earning potential, and I’m exploring new directions where my skills in customer success, operations, and cross-functional collaboration can translate. I’m open to career paths like (SaaS) sales, customer success, or operations. Any suggestions or guidance would be hugely appreciated! 🙏 submitted by /u/Admirable_Custard923 to r/careerguidance [link] [comments]

LPT - Talk as little as possible on a customer service call for better success
Source - I have been a customer service phone agent for 6 years. People don't realize that their long-winded, defensive monologue is just making what they want take way longer to be done. Just ask for what you need in a brief statement, and put the ball in the agent's court. I promise we don't want the call to take any longer than you do. If you go on an extended tirade, I PROMISE you it will significantly DECREASE your chances of getting what you want. The average agent will be courteous but will not go the extra mile for aggressive people. They also note your account internally if you are difficult. If you disagree with something the company has done or provided, briefly and calmly state you don't accept that solution. Again, put the ball in the agent's court with as few words as possible. If they come back with the same solution, calmly and briefly say "no" again, and be silent. Odds are, one of two things will happen. The agent will either compromise on their position, or become uncomfortable with the silence and escalate to a manager who is even more likely to give you what you want. submitted by /u/Funny_Sea_2873 to r/LifeProTips [link] [comments]

LEGO has the best customer service
My Krusty Burger set arrived today with a giant boot print on it. Fast forward an hour after I notified LEGO of the problem: I'm sending it back, getting a replacement, and as a bonus some free insider points! I've never had an issue with shipping from LEGO, so this was the first damaged set out of the 100s of sets I've ordered. I will always and forever say LEGO has the best customer service, as well as a Sherlock Holmes type who identified the shoe size, brand, and estimated weight of the perpetrator! submitted by /u/jolley1138 to r/lego [link] [comments]

Ordered a microwave, got a gaming chair, customer service say they'll "consider fixing the problem" but might not
After weeks of calling customer service to actually get what I've already paid for, I finally got a knock on my door. Delivery!!! Finally!!! New microwave!!! Weeeeee. Not. I signed, got the parcel inside, and discovered the microwave was now a gaming chair, a low quality one too. So I called customer service. After keeping me on hold for an eternity, they said they'll let me know in a week (or two) if they'll pick it back up and deliver the item I actually bought.... Customer service jobs are just terrible
For contexts I worked hotel front desk and barenteding and let me tell you, working customer service is terrible. First pay is always low yet you’re suppose to go out of your way to make the customer happy. You become a punching bag for every minor inconvenience. Their card is declining? That’s somehow your fault. Their room not having a jacuzzi even tho we have never advertised it does? That’s my fault too. a guest accidentally booked the wrong hotel in the wrong city? guess what thats my fault and i have to fix it or "they will never return and leave a bad review". managers are never helpful and only care about making these customers happy. I quit the hotel job after a customer got upset and tried to physically hit me. When I told my manager, they got mad at me because I couldn’t deescalate the situation and that guest was a VIP. I don’t get how people do this for a full on career. Time to find somthing new. submitted by /u/closetstranger to r/antiwork [link] [comments]

Why is customer service all so bad nowadays?
Customer service has gotten worse and worse lately. Whenever I try to call any kind of customer service nowadays, it’s like pulling teeth to get a live person. When I finally do get a hold of someone it’s painfully obvious that they’re not American which usually results in the person not being able to understand the situation. Today for instance, I was calling Best Buy because I had an appointment with Geek Squad that I wanted to confirm because I had an appointment on Tuesday and technician decided not to come in that day. So I called the location but rather someone there answering the phone I got a useless recording which forwarded me to a call center. I tried explaining the situation to no avail. They somehow thought they had helped me but all they were able to do was confirm that I had an appointment. So irritating. submitted by /u/superpowers335 to r/PetPeeves [link] [comments]

I get customers suck but a lot of customer service folk need a reality check.
To start with I’ve worked some form of customer service or been a public servant my whole life so I get how draining and exhausting it can be working with the public. People asking questions and not bothering to listen to the answer, blaming you for things that aren’t your fault or aren’t even associated with your job, company or administration. Stealing, threatening your job for BS, all that. I’m not some silver spoon asshole complaining that if a waitress wouldn’t give me her number. Now that that side of the way, customer service has gone to hell the last few years. Consistently I’m dealing with people who won’t engage when it’s their job. I’m not asking somebody to shop for me I’m talking questions like hey what aisle would I find PVC fittings. I just went to pick up some pizzas and the guy didn’t say a word let alone tell me to grab a 2L out of the fridge around the corner on my way out. I get it I put my card in the machine, you you hand me food but not exchanging a word is so strange. Having to wait for someone to finish a personal phone call so you can buy a pack of cigarettes. No hi, welcome, please, thank you, have a nice day despite getting all of that from me the customer or member of the public. I know we all went through a traumatic experience during the pandemic and that life is hard. I get that some people think that faking it is wrong and keep it real but that’s always been expected. They might be having a rough day or hate the job and I respect that but I don’t know you. I’m just trying to buy something, get something fixed or receive a public service and I don’t think it’s too much to ask for someone to be polite, or even at a minimum just not be rude about it. It sucks when you’re made to feel like an asshole. submitted by /u/Corey307 to r/CustomerService [link] [comments]

Am I stuck in Customer Service forever?
I (26F, Seattle, WA) have worked customer service since I was allowed to have a job at 18. 8 whole years of my life. My mother wanted me to focus on high school, therefore, my first job was a cashier at a sporting goods store. I went to school to be a dental assistant, but I never realized that it would be too much (queasiness wise) - and the risks of contracting diseases was too much for me. I tried accounts receivable, as well as accounting assistant jobs (let's face it, it was one job that gave me responsibilities beyond my capabilities, even as a multi tasker). I tried to be a medical receptionist - the company was shady as hell and never ended up paying me the rate they said they would. Jumping back to the now - I just started a new customer service job - but am slowly becoming more aware that in this position, I am either stuck where I am at, or will continue to run through jobs that have the possibility of under paying per experience or running me into the ground, with an end result of complete and utter burn out. My fiance, his mother, my mother, and friends tell me that I have SOOOO many skills that I could be utilizing if I found the right job. How do I find that? I just took a skills matching quiz. Ultimately, all the top 10 jobs required a masters or bachelor's degree, which I don't have, and don't want to waste another 15k to 150k getting a masters or bachelor's. This is all based on assumptions as I am and have been uninterested in going to college in any form, due to the lack of actual assistance any university or college provides. Even going to technical school for dental assisting was me forcing myself out of my comfort zone in order to get a "well respected job". Should I just suck it up and go back to dental assisting? Or is there an actual job that I can find that can use the skills I have paired with the experience I have just being in the field for 8 years? Any help is appreciated, as it currently feels like I'm failing at life. submitted by /u/hpplvr to r/careerguidance [link] [comments]
