Cheesecake is the worst dessert to ever exist.
Why would anyone want that Cream cheese filling (or whatever it is) in their dessert. Isn't dessert supposed to be sweet? I know it's sweet but either has that cream cheese flavour (I like cream cheese in savoury foods) or it's either too sweet. I Don't Want More Sweetness in cheesecake, I just haven't had one with the right balance of flavours. And i have tried quite a variety but still don't like it. Also its texture is extremely weird, and dense. Also it is objectively one of the least healthy desserts, if we consider the calories and saturated fat. The only bearable cheesecake flavour is blueberry cheesecake. It is very overrated and does not deserve to be called a dessert. (and this is just my opinion, does not make cheesecake objectively bad) Edit: Worst luck ever, My mom's birthday today, and dad bought a whole cheesecake (and i Have to eat one slice, or it's disrespectful according to them) Also clarification, I know cheesecake can be sweet, but I just don't get the concept of cream cheese in dessert, even if fruits and sugar are added. I do love tangy flavours in desserts tho. That's why I said blueberry is bearable, because it's a bit tangy. And for the unhealthy aspect, I agree that dessert isn't supposed to be healthy at all, but a lot of cheesecake can't be eaten in one sitting (not more than 2 bites), because it's heavy and also unhealthy. Maybe I haven't had a good one yet. But for now, my opinion stands unchanged. Cheesecake is the worst. submitted by /u/Whyamiwritingthis_74 to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

Third date awkward argument over paying for dessert. Was my expectation unreasonable?
I (33M) went on three dates with a girl (30F) I met on Hinge. The first two dates went really well. I paid for both dinners and drinks and didn’t think much of it. I’m generally fine paying on early dates. On the third date we went out to dinner again, which I also paid for. After dinner we decided to grab dessert nearby. When we got to the counter I expected she might offer to grab dessert since I had paid for everything so far. But she didn’t reach for her wallet at all. Instead she kind of looked at me like she expected me to pay again. She then asked, “Did you expect me to pay or something?” I said not necessarily, but I thought it would have been nice if she at least offered since I had covered the previous two dates and dinner that night. To me it felt like a small gesture of reciprocation. That turned into a bit of a heated back and forth. She basically said that when a guy invites a girl out he should expect to pay and that bringing up money or expecting reciprocity this early is a turn off. From my perspective, it wasn’t really about the cost of the dessert. It was more about the principle of showing some effort or appreciation. The vibe definitely changed after that conversation. Is it unreasonable to expect some kind of reciprocity by the third date? Would you have just paid again and not said anything? submitted by /u/savingrace0262 to r/AskMenAdvice [link] [comments]

What's a regional dessert that you love, but can't find outside of your region or country.
For me, it's rainbow cookies. They're an Italian American dessert that you'll really only find in bakeries in New York. They're a layered almond cake with jam (raspberry or apricot) between the layers and chocolate on top, cut into bite sized cookies. I live in Florida now and have resorted to baking my own to get my fix. submitted by /u/MrPresldent to r/AskTheWorld [link] [comments]

My weird go-to dessert
It looks like dog food no matter how I present it lmao, but hear me out! The base is grated carrots with dark chocolate, and I add whatever I have around (usually some fruit, nuts or seeds, and a dash of something creamy). For a batch (about twice the quantity in this picture), I used: -6 medium sized carrots -25g of melted dark chocolate -1 teaspoon of peanut butter -A leftover of a grapefruit, coconut and date smoothie (about 1/4 of a cup, I reckon, which made it a bit too soggy in hindsight 😅) -A few chopped almonds and pecan nuts I mix it all in a pan on low heat for a few minutes and let it cool in the fridge, then top it with a clementine before eating. Not sure about the exact amount of calories, but I think around 250 kcal per serving? submitted by /u/Maospock to r/Volumeeating [link] [comments]

I blow dry my chicken before roasting and my desserts contain soy sauce, culinary confessions that actually work
I've got three that completely changed my kitchen game. First,, freezing fresh ginger and grating it frozen. I used to avoid recipes with ginger because peeling and mincing that stringy mess was such a pain, and it always went moldy before I could use a whole piece. Now I just keep a knob in the freezer and use a microplane to grate it straight from frozen, no peeling needed, no strings, no waste, and it actually grates BETTER frozen than fresh. Game-changer. Second, adding a splash of soy sauce to chocolate desserts. I know it sounds absolutely insane, but a teaspoon in brownies or chocolate cake batter doesn't make them taste Asian at all, it just makes the chocolate flavor deeper and more complex. Something about the umami. My friends have been trying to figure out my "secret ingredient" for years. Lastly, using a hair dryer on chicken skin before roasting. Sounds ridiculous but it completely dries the skin so it gets shatteringly crisp in the oven. I have a cheap one I keep just for cooking. My grandmother walked in on me blow drying a chicken once and nearly called for a wellness check, but now she does it too. What weird cooking tricks have you stumbled upon that actually work? submitted by /u/Nasergames1 to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

After living in Chicago for several months now, these are 20 of my favorite desserts in no particular order: Monteverde: birthday cake Armitage Alehouse: sticky date cake Mindy’s Bakery: twice baked cookie croissant Annette’s Italian Ice: mango and blueberry lemon Italian ice Kasama: ube and huckleberry basque cake Asador Bastian: golden chocolate hazelnut cake Gibsons: macadamia turtle pie Bavette's: chocolate cream pie Margie's Candies: jumbo fudge atomic sundae Bad Butter: twice baked almond croissant Ann Sather’s: cinnamon roll Sarima: ube crinkle cookie Sugar Moon: tahini chocolate chip cookie Lost Larson: lingonberry almond cake Del Sur: turon danish Downstate Donuts: double chocolate Floriole: chocolate croissant Bake: chocolate vanilla cupcake Chiu Quon: red bean mochi ball Doughnut Vault: vanilla glazed donut A couple of more things I’d like to shout out are Do-Rite's pistachio old-fashioned donut and Lickity Split’s chocolate concrete with oreos, but I don’t have pics of those two. I limited the list to only include one dessert per place (Bad Butter would take up half the list otherwise). I've discovered many of these places from this subreddit and still have a massive list of places that I want to try, so please let me know what I'm missing out on. submitted by /u/Prior-Midnight1685 to r/chicagofood [link] [comments]

I’m getting bored of the things I’ve been baking and I’d love some recipe suggestions. Preferably desserts that have left people saying “holy crap this is so good” or goodies that have left people asking for the recipe! No requirement for it to be for a particular event or time of year (fall, holidays etc). I’m just looking to expand my recipe book with tasty treats!! Edit: also no preference on the type of baked goods. I’m comfortable making just about everything!! Edit 2: WOW!!! You guys rock!! I’m so so excited to try all these new things!! Holy crap, dessert hack?
Greek yogurt ‘PB cups’ Mix plain yogurt with skinny mocha syrup, 0 cal sweetener, and cocoa powder. Then mix PB powder, protein powder (I used cereal milk flavor bc it’s what I had on hand but vanilla or PB flavor would work best!), a splash of the mocha syrup and water to get a good consistency. Added a little bit of zero cal sweetener here too. Layered yogurt - PB mixture - yogurt into mini muffin molds. The whole recipe — which made 8 cups — was 154 cal and 25g of protein. 🤤🤤🤤 I only froze them for about an hour or so, I was too antsy and wanted dessert before bed 😂 I would freeze them a little longer next time. submitted by /u/PurpleSleep941122 to r/Volumeeating [link] [comments]
