Are there any „high waist“ working pants for men?
Hey, I’ve been searching for a new pair of pants because my old ones are falling apart. My casual pants are mostly sitting at the waistline - my problem with standard workwear pants is that they are sitting pretty low compared to my normal pants which makes them uncomfortable for me + you always need a belt for them to hold. I was looking at the „DICKIES 874“ online because they are supposed to sit relatively high at the waistline, but the reviews because of the material were pretty negative. Maybe someone here has had the same issue and found a good pair of pants? Or another brand which can be recommended. submitted by /u/Kurogami_X to r/mechanics [link] [comments]

Unique Case: Dressing Well With An Ostomy Bag?
Hey! I’m a pretty young guy (23) who had an… eventful 2025. Beginning of the year, I almost kicked the bucket from Crohn’s and ended up with a permanent ostomy bag (2nd pic) A few months after recovery, I joined my first proper touring band, and I’m looking to level up my dress so that I look as professional as I pretend to be. All my adult life it’s been dickies + black shirt. Simple, comfortable, but I want to do more to look better on stage, feel more confident in pictures, etc. There are a couple challenges that I’ve run into… -Frequently photographed sitting down and in-motion. Heavier/layered fits can be tough in hot clubs. -Ostomy bag goes down to just below my waist. I can still wear shirts tucked-in, but especially tight-fitting shirts can cause issues with squeezing the air out, causing discomfort. ^ I am not embarrassed/afraid to show the bag/use it as an accent if possible! Totally down for something unique like that. I can wear them in black or gray. For what it’s worth, I’m a men’s medium, and approx. a 30x30 pants size. 5’8 on a good day haha! Curious if anyone has some bright ideas or inspiration on ways I can go the extra mile on my styling! Figured I’d toss it to people who are passionate about it, and hopefully find some cool community while I’m here. If you have any questions, need more info, etc, let me know and I’m happy to clarify anything. Cheers! submitted by /u/SpareOtter2002 to r/mensfashion [link] [comments]

Athletic Fit Business Casual Pants for Men
I’m going into an internship in tech, but in project management. The dress code provided in my contract was described as business casual, so I’m looking for some pants that will fit that mold. For reference I’m about 5’8, with a lean build. I have big soccer thighs and calves that make dress pants kind of difficult to fit. My last internship was with the federal government so for the most part it was more laid back, but I still tried to aim for the business casual look. The pants I wore the most were the Abercrombie and Finch « Go To Pants » in the Athletic Fit. They fit decent but the quality isn’t great value for what I’m paying as a student. They also had an issue in the zipper but that may have been cause I tried to get a smaller waist than I usually am. I’ve seen the Dickies 874 as an option but I’m worried they might be too casual. I tried the Lululemon pants in store but they didn’t really fit me as I wanted them to either. There were some pants at Uniqlo that fit me very nicely as well but again I’m not sure about the quality for $80 CAD. Ideally I don’t want to spend too too much as I am still on a student budget. I may end up going with the Uniqlo ones if I can’t find a better option. submitted by /u/Interesting_Beyond97 to r/BusinessFashion [link] [comments]

Men’s Travel Pants/Chino/Khaki - Dickies 574 for travel
Hello! I’m looking for travel pants that look like regular chino/khakis that are comfortable, don’t wrinkle too badly, some breathability, and can work in both warm-ish weather and cool weather. I’ve never tried on a pair of Dickies 574, would they be good for travel? Do people have pants that look like they can go to work but don’t have a synthetic look? Thank you! submitted by /u/Upset-Evidence-8496 to r/onebag [link] [comments]

Mukluk Winter Boots for Toddler - 2 years old
I have a sensory-sensitive, non-verbal 2.5 year old that strictly crawls when wearing traditional stiff and narrow shoes. We are a barefoot style, wide-toe box, flexible shoe family. Its winter here in canada, and there's not many options for genuinely warm wide-toe winter boots for kids. So I made some I know he will wear, and designed them around his sensitivities to texture and pressure points, as well as ease of use for whoever is dressing him. Safety is a huge factor for me because he is hard of hearing and most likely autistic, so he fears literally nothing and does not understand danger. He loves busy roads because he loves watching cars and trucks and will 100% step out onto the road if given the chance. Its terrifying really. A few days ago, I posted my prototype - an all green boot design in a 'Make Your Own Gear' reddit. If you didnt see that, check it out through my profile, but i took thatboot apart again to trace the patterns and heres what I changed and added to the design: Lots of reflective features that can be seen atall angles, even if he was crawling: I found some reflecting webbing type stripe material that was perfect for the back heel and loops to hold the straps. And I found some reflective rope type trim that made everything look so professional, it was a little awkward at first but, I eventually got it. It helped a lot to sew the reflective on one side first, and then close it up, following that same stitchline. (see photos) loops for the straps to pass through so they can move freely and not put so much unbalanced stress on the boot when tightening, also either straps could be removable if the top strap isnt needed, or if the boot is being tossed into the laundry, which it could. The rest of this text is a copy paste from my original boot post: My basic goals were: reliably warm on the coldest days genuinely waterproof fairly grippy sole, but flexible and wide toe box easy on and off design with an adjustable ankle straps that could provide some form of support removable thick wool liner so it can air out the liner to be usable on its own as a slipper (coat the bottom in non-slip material) Machine: Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ-zigzag and straight stitch blue machine. Thread: PTFE Lifetime Thread black 4 Oz #107130 from sailrite.com Needle: GB 140/22, 135 x 16 NW, DP x 16 part# 754592 Sole of boots was cut from a car floor mat I bought at Walmart called "genuine dickies heavy-duty cargo protection made in China, not sure what's its made of but I do know that JB 2 part epoxy does not stick to it :) bar code #0-77341-62026-6 Green shell material was cut from some size Medium Viking Journeyman brand waterproof pants I thrifted at Value Village for $20. The company is based in Vancouver, BC, canada but the tag says made in china RN# 87832, 80% Poly Vinyl Cloride + 20% Polyester-clean with mild soap and water, hang to dry without sunlight. (I was able to make 4 individual boots out of one pair of men's size medium pants with enough left over scraps I could maybe make some matching gloves.) Wool liner for the boots was cut from a car seat cover that came with my camper van when I bought it. It is genuine wool pelt/skin whatever, but the leathery skin is quite thin and delicate. Im considering sewing or gluing on some material to the toe box, the bottom and the heel of the wool liner to add some abrasion protection and extend the life of the boot. Elastics I used on the wool liners were purchased from Walmart, any elastic would do. Plastic eyelets, velcro and strapping material was all purchased from the sailrite website, and modified to suit the little boot. I traced my sons foot onto paper, added about 1/2" all around, rounding the toe and heel more. Then cut that out of the wool, The pattern I used for the main wrap, I changed, so instead of opening at the back and having a seamless front, I switched it because it made more sense comfort and ease of getting it on his foot. So, I will modify my templates for that. Theres only 3 pieces to sew, I stitched that all by hand because its so fluffy and messy and delicate. Doesn't need a machine. Once that was done, I had a better idea how big the shell needed to be. I used a massive amount of tape to make a template over the wool liner, cutting and tracing and adjusting as I went until I felt like I have something that was pretty close. Then I just went for it. I plan to order some seams sealer to seal up the two seams on the inside of the boot to make it genuinely waterproof. III also seal the stitches for the straps too. And... I'd love to find more material like that to make myself a matching pair of boots. 🙂 submitted by /u/Okinanna to r/sewing [link] [comments]

What are normal pants for men?
Trying to help my husband refresh his wardrobe and get him some nice stuff to really round it out, but I’m having some trouble understanding men’s pants and I know that sounds stupid. He currently basically wears only workwear pants (at least that’s what I think they are)(think dickies), but my goal is to get him some nice outfits that are dressier than his bumming around clothes but not so formal that it would be weird to wear to dinner with friends… normal classic preppy/ivy nice stuff. Basically my question is this: what kind of pants are normal for guys to have. Chinos? I feel like there’s 100 types of men’s pants and half of them are identical to my eye and the other half are obvious (I can tell jeans from cargo pants duh). But, like, what is just a regular pair of pants for an adult man? What do the kinds of pants mean? Please help me :) submitted by /u/Mindless-House1282 to r/mensfashionadvice [link] [comments]

I passed my weld test 🤸🥳
About 6 months ago I started a job as a materials handler for a structural steel fab shop. I had applied to learn to weld. They pretty much said, prove you can hang and we will see lol so I spent the last 6 months learning the ropes of the structural steel industry. I am a certified overhead crane trainer now. Fork lift certified. I can read blueprints and I have even begun fitting. No one was willing to teach me how to weld so I would stay late and practice on my own. I work a 10 hour shift, clock out and find some scrap, run bead after bead. I did this on my lunch breaks too. A couple weeks back I was approached by the shop super and told I could weld all of the horse legs and benches for the new skids that would be going into the new part of our shop. 160 skids. 330 horse legs. I never said yes please to anything faster in my life. I spent 2 weeks making those and then I was given a practice test. 1 inch bevel weld D1 1G MiG welding with metal core. I went ahead and took it. They ran it through the bends and told me I passed. It wasn’t practice. It was the real deal. I am a certified welder now. I worked really fucking hard for this. Some of you may remember me making a post back in March. At 43 years old to start on this journey is wild as hell and I know without a doubt I am exactly where I belong. I walked into the trades not even knowing how to read a tape. I came from the service industry, bartender and waiting tables. Over the next 5 years I will be working towards my CWI and hopefully on to independent work. I wanna travel and make the big bucks 😎 Whew! Thanks for reading and letting me share!!! I am so damn excited about my future. I absolutely love welding. Thank you to all the ladies who encouraged me to go for it. You have no idea what a big impact that made on me. I survived the oppressively hot summer in the shop and before we know it it’s going to be freeze your nuts off cold in there. Any suggestions for workwear that I can be warm in and also weld comfortably in? I know I’ll need insulated bibs and prob live in them. I am fine with spending the money on a really good pair. Same goes for my work coat. I am set on boots right now. I love my keen Cincinnati men’s boots. I live in dickies work pants. Can’t beat the price and they’re comfortable. I buy the men’s flex. I’ve been using the welder nation weld caps under my hardhat and hood. It helps a ton with keeping the hood on my head. Without it or a backwards ball cap they just slide down. About my hood, I bought a cheap yes welder hood just to use while I was learning and now that I have passed my test and will be welding full time I need something better. I can’t see shit out of it. I have been looking hard into the sugar scoops from pipeliners cloud. They are supposed to be lightweight and really good for those with a small head. That be me. Just wondering how well they do in a fab shop running MiG. I would def get an auto dark lens for it. Yep. Hit me with all the good suggestions. I am open. Thanks ladies and love to ya! submitted by /u/Vixiesunshine to r/BlueCollarWomen [link] [comments]

Fresh claims emerge that late Queen's cousin Lord Mountbatten abused children at Northern Ireland boys' home - as one says he was trafficked to royal's castle
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14849557/Fresh-claims-emerge-late-Queens-cousin-Lord-Mountbatten-abused-children-Northern-Ireland-boys-home-one-says-trafficked-royals-castle.html Fresh claims emerge that late Queen's cousin Lord Mountbatten abused children at Northern Ireland boys' home - as one says he was trafficked to royal's castle By ELIZABETH HAIGH Published: 11:19, 8 July 2025 | Updated: 13:30, 8 July 2025 A new book has raised fresh claims that Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, Lord Mountbatten, sexually abused and raped multiple young boys at a children's home before his death in 1979. Lord Mountbatten, known as Dickie, was linked to the Kincora Boys' Home in Belfast by former resident Arthur Smyth, who named Prince Philip's uncle as his alleged abuser in 2022, as part of legal action against institutions in Northern Ireland for breach of duty of care and negligence. And in 2019, a secret dossier compiled by the FBI on British statesmen during World War Two and the Suez Crisis described King Charles' uncle and valued mentor as a 'homosexual with a perversion for young boys', which made him an 'unfit man to direct any sort of military operations'. Now a new book by journalist Chris Moore, Kincora: Britain's Shame - Mountbatten, MI5, the Belfast Boys' Home Sex Abuse Scandal and the British Cover-Up, details allegations from four previous residents of the home against the aristocrat including Smyth, who has labelled the godfather of King Charles, the King of Paedophiles. Sharing his story for the first time, Richard Kerr claims he was trafficked to a hotel near Mountbatten's castle with a fellow teenager named Stephen, where they were allegedly assaulted in the boathouse. He also casts doubt on his friend's apparent suicide later that year. Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma and the last viceroy of India, was killed on August 27, 1979 by an IRA bomb that was smuggled onto his boat. Two teenagers, his 14-year-old grandson and a 15-year-old boat hand, also died. Kincora was an infamous boys' home that closed its doors in the 1980s after allegations of routine sexual abuse of its vulnerable young residents, who have told how staff raped and assaulted them and trafficked them out to other men. Despite reports of dozens of victims and multiple powerful individuals arriving at the children's home in order to abuse the boys, just the three senior staff at Kincora - William McGrath, Raymond Semple and Joseph Mains - have ever faced any consequences. Lord Mountbatten, known as Dickie, has been accused of travelling to the notorious former Kincora Boys' Home in Belfast and having boys resident there transported around Ireland for his sexual gratification They were jailed in 1981 for abusing 11 boys, but police and British security forces have long been accused of orchestrating a cover-up of a powerful paedophile ring, whose members included politicians, judges and police officers. At least 29 boys are known to have been sexually abused at Kincora. Former resident Arthur Smyth, who is one of the accusers featured in the book, said that Lord Mountbatten 'charmed everyone' but branded him 'King of paedophiles'. Read More The Queen's cousin Lord Mountbatten is accused of sexually abusing a child at notorious Belfast boys home in 1970s in court case being brought 43 years after he was assassinated by the IRA The book contains detailed accounts of four victims, and paints a picture of Mountbatten abusing and raping residents as young as 11 all in the space of the summer of 1977. Some of the boys had no idea who their alleged abuser was until years later after hearing of his death on the news and recognising him. Moore now claims much of the sexual abuse was known about, or at least suspected, by local authorities and MI5, but no action was taken because the British security service was using 'monster' McGrath as an intelligence asset due to his familiarity with far-right loyalist organisations. Arthur Smyth 'raped twice by Lord Mountbatten', aged 11 Arthur Smyth was the first person who had been placed into care at Kincora to speak publicly about the sexual abuse he says he experienced at the hands of Lord Mountbatten. He described how, in 1977, the 'beast of Kincora' - William McGrath - found Arthur playing on the staircase at the home and told him he wanted to introduce him to a friend of his. Describing the room which McGrath took him to, Mr Smyth told Moore: 'It was on the ground floor. It wasn't the front room, it was somewhere near the middle. And it had a big desk and a shower. I'd never seen a shower in my life.' He went on to describe how Mountbatten - who he knew as Dickie - told him to 'stand on top of like a box or something' and then 'told me to take my pants down.' Arthur Smyth has long claimed that Lord Mountbatten raped him twice when he was just 11 in Kincora itself William McGrath, known as the 'Beast of Kincora', was one of three carers at the home jailed for sexual abuse - and was also an alleged MI5 asset 'He then proceeded to lean me over the desk.' Mr Smyth says Lord Mountbatten raped him, and did so again on a second occasion a week later. He said: 'When he had finished, he told me to go and have a shower. And I went and had a shower. I felt sick and I was crying in the shower. I just wanted it all to stop.' By the time Arthur came out of the shower the man called Dickie had left and McGrath was there waiting to take him back upstairs. It wasn't until years later that he realised who 'Dickie' was, after he stumbled across coverage of Lord Mountbatten's death. Mr Smyth said that once he realised who had abused him, he felt sick that 'somebody in high stature like this could do such a thing'. He told Moore: 'We all think that a paedophile is a bloke that you don't know, that he's weird-looking or he doesn't look right, but he fooled everybody. He charmed everybody. 'To me he was king of the paedophiles. That's what he was. He was not a lord. He was a paedophile and people need to know him for what he was … not for what they're portraying him to be.' Kincora staff 'trafficked boys to Mountbatten for sex' In August of the same year, two more Kincora residents were abused by Mountbatten - but instead of coming to them, the royal family member ensured the home's own staff brought victims across Ireland to him. Richard Kerr and Stephen Waring were both driven to Fermanagh by senior care staff member Joseph Mains, and from there taken to the Manor House Hotel near the Mountbattens' Classiebawn Castle, where they often spent the summer. Mains would later be convicted of sexual offences against boys relating to his time at Kincora along which his colleagues, William McGrath and Raymond Semple. Richard revalled how he and Stephen waited with Mains in a car park to be picked up by Mountbatten's security guards, who arrived in two separate black Ford Cortinas and ferried the boys to the hotel in Mullaghmore in County Sligo, just a few minutes drive from the castle. Richard told Moore how they were dropped off separately at Classiebawn before being taken individually from a guest reception room to the green boathouse, where they were sexually assaulted. They then returned to the Manor House to meet Mains for the journey home. Once they were alone back in Belfast, Richard and Stephen compared their experiences. Unlike Richard, Stephen recognised Mountbatten and knew they had been abused by a member of the royal family. Quick-thinking Stephen managed to take a ring belonging to Mountbatten before leaving Classiebawn - perhaps as potential proof of who had assaulted him. But this would also prove to be the teenager's downfall. Teenager's 'suicide' after Mountbatten 'abuse' Classiebawn Castle was owned by the Royal Family and was home to the Mountbattens, who frequently spent their summers there Joseph Mains drove Richard and Stephen to a car park to be picked up by Mountbatten's security officers - he was later jailed for sexual abuse of boys at Kincora Stephen's theft of Mountbatten's ring did not go unnoticed - it was reported missing and police attended Kincora and took both Stephen and Richard in for interrogation. The ring was eventually found by officers in Stephen's bed area, and Richard claims Stephen was tricked into admitting the theft by police. And far from questioning what two teenage boys, with no connections or privilege, had been doing alone in a room with Mountbatten, Irish police instead threatened the boys into silence. Richard said: 'The police made it clear to the pair of us that we were never to talk to anyone about this incident ever again.' He told Moore how, over the next few years, he and Stephen were repeatedly visited by police officers or shady intelligence figures, who warned them again never to speak of what had happened to them. It appeared that officers knew, or suspected, enough of what had occurred during that summer to try and prevent it ever reaching the light of day - and that Mountbatten was free to continue seeking sexual satisfaction from vulnerable young boys. But things would take a turn for the worse for Richard and Stephen, after they were arrested for a slew of burglaries between June and October 1977. Richard pleaded guilty to the charges against him and was allowed to continue working in the Europa Hotel in Belfast, where he was already employed, so he could repay the money he had stolen. Stephen was sentenced to three years at Rathgael training school but escaped within a month, and caught a ferry to Liverpool along with Richard. But while Richard travelled to visit and stay with his aunt Stephen quickly found himself in police custody in Liverpool, before police escorted him onto the ship making the overnight sailing to Belfast. Moore found out that Stephen was sent back to Ireland alone, with no police escort, and during the crossing he apparently threw himself overboard and died. Richard, who still maintains Stephen would never have taken his own life, did not become aware of his death until a few days later. 'Stephen would never have thrown himself overboard,' Richard said. 'He would never have willingly jumped into the freezing November sea. He was street smart and a fighter.' Penchant for 'dark-skinned people' Teenager Amal - not his real name - was 16 when he was first taken to Classiebawn, the castle used as a summer retreat by the Mountbatten family. He was taken there four times in the summer of 1977 - the same summer it is alleged Mountbatten abused the other boys - to provide the royal family member with 'sexual favours', Moore writes. Amal's accusations first surfaced in the 2019 book by Andrew Lownie, The Mountbattens: Their Lives and Loves, which caused a scandal upon publication. He said the sexual encounters would take an hour and occurred at a hotel about 15 minutes away from the castle itself. Each time, he is said to have performed oral sex on Mountbatten and, during one of the encounters, briefly met Kincora resident Richard Kerr. Amal described Mountbatten as polite and told him he liked 'dark-skinned' people, especially those from Sri Lanka. The lord is also said to have complimented Amal on his smooth skin. The then-teenager told Lownie that he knew of several boys from Kincora who were brought to Mountbatten on various occasions. 'I hate these feelings': Mountbatten 'sad and lonely', victim says Kincora, located in Belfast, was demolished in 2022, but claims of abuse there continue to surface Raymond Semple was the third member of staff at Kincora to face justice for the sexual abuse that occurred there The second victim exposed by Lownie, known only as Sean, was a 16-year-old resident of Kincora when he was taken to Classiebawn in the summer of 1977. He described being taken into a darkened room where he was joined by Mountbatten - although similar to the lord's other victims, Sean did not know his identity at the time. Sean said he spent an hour with Mountbatten, who undressed him and performed oral sex on him. He told Lownie that Mountbatten appeared conflicted, on that occasion at least, about his taste for young boys. 'He spoke quietly and tried to make me feel comfortable,' Sean said. 'He said very sadly, 'I hate these feelings.' He seemed a sad and lonely person. I think the darkened room was all about denial.' Sean added it was only when he saw the news that Mountbatten had been killed by the IRA that he realised who his abuser had been. 'Mountbatten is dead, but he still lives inside us' The boys - now men - abused by Mountbatten and care home staff told Moore how the severe abuse they suffered continues to haunt them. Arthur says what McGrath and Mountbatten did to him back in the summer of 1977 'still lives inside him', leaving him with terrifying memories that have long outlasted the perpetrators. Moore wrote: 'Arthur's tormentors are both now dead, but they live on in his memory and bring back how he felt as an innocent eleven-year-old boy.' It's a feeling echoed by other featured in the work, including Richard, who has never been able to accept his friend Stephen took his own life. Many former residents described fear and paranoia over what they experienced, as well as frequent visits by police officers and secret service agents to ensure they would stay quiet. Most difficult for many Kincora survivors is that Mountbatten, and many other influential figures they say they assaulted by, have never faced justice. Multiple victims have attempted, with various degrees of success, to bring legal action against the British government, the Police Service of Northern Ireland and other public bodies that were supposed to protect them. Instead, they say, their innocence was sacrificed for the sake of the royal family and low-level intelligence on loyalist forces. submitted by /u/ByGollie to r/northernireland [link] [comments]

🥳 I survived week 2 at the structural steel plant
My background - 42 year old woman. I raised 2 kids who are now 23 and 18. I wanted to be a midwife from the time I was pregnant with my first up until about a year ago. I was going to go to school full time for 6 years to make that dream come true. I decided I just don’t want to take care of people anymore. I have spent my entire adult life either taking care of my family or working in a restaurant as a waitress or a bartender. People pleasing. No thanks. Done with that. I left my husband almost 3 years and about 9 months ago I decided to give up alcohol and weed too. I’ve been clean since July 2024. Safe to say I’m on quite the journey. I got my motorcycle license back in the fall and started solo hiking around the same time. A couple of months ago I thought wouldn’t it be cool to have a job that allowed for travel. I came across journey woman jobs. My son hey mom what about welding. You would be good at that. You’re a badass and you’d make great money. So I started looking into it. Lightly. Going to school isn’t really an option for me anymore. I just don’t want to do it. I looked around for apprenticeships in my area. A friend of mine happens to be a CWI and he suggested I go apply at the steel plant which is about 40 mins away from me. I did that. I showed up at 6am in my steel toe boots ( brand new lol ), work pants and asked for the supervisor. He told me I needed to apply online but I was sort of pushy and I wound up getting a tour of the plant. When he handed me a hardhat and safety glasses I know I looked like a total dork with a giant grin on my face. It just felt right. So I picked his brain and asked lots of questions. Went home and made up a good resume and waited. A week went by and I got a call to come in for an interview. It went well and I was told they were looking forward to having me on site but I needed to wait for a call because it had to be discussed with someone who wasn’t there at the time. Over the course of the next 3 weeks I left about 15 voicemails asking about the job. FINALLY got an email with an offer of really shitty pay for the position - Materials Handler. I took it! I started on March 24. It’s a mandatory 48 hours a week and pretty much all the overtime I want to work. I start at 6am and done at 430 Monday - Thursday and Fridays I’m off at 230. I’ve learned to use the crane and I spend my days looking over blueprints and finding all the materials that go with each one. I gather them up ( for the most part - steel plates, angles, bent plates, beams and columns then all the bolts nuts and washers that go to them ) hook them up in chains and move them on down the line to whichever fitter or welder is ready for work. I do a lot of heavy lifting and by 10 am I’ve got rust all over my clothes and usually some on my face too. I work with all men. Happy to report they all treat me well and are great about me asking questions. It’s really wonderful to have my own bathroom too. Ladies - my skin is angry. My feet are angry. I am wearing carhartt steel toes because they were half price on fb marketplace and brand new. I needed them fast and had a small budget. The right one is giving me trouble. My right foot is wider. The left foot is great lol. After two weeks in them I have definitely broken them in pretty good. I do want to try for another pair of boots. Something with a wider toe box for sure. I was thinking either thouroughgood, redwing or timberland pros. They will give me $100 towards boots which is nice. About my skin, it feels almost like I have tiny bumps or something all over the bottom half of my face. My skin doesn’t feel smooth. It’s weird. I hope it gets better. As far as my hair goes, I have been wearing a welders cap under my hardhat. They gave it to me. It’s thick and pretty big on me. I’d like to either buy some of my own that run smaller and are lighter weight or maybe try something different than a welders cap. Any suggestions? Safety glasses - I wear prescription glasses so they gave me the little rubber side covers that I slide down the sides of my glasses. They do offer a $75 rebate if I buy myself a pair of prescription ones. I’d like to do that. Any advice on which website to use? The aching feet woke me up at 5am this morning. I was so excited to sleep in after getting up at 4am all week. Nope. Feet were aching and also itchy??? Idk what the itchy is about. Good sock suggestions? lol I have rings around my ankles from the top of my boots rubbing. Looks like I have been in shackles hahah. I’ve been using dickies socks. As far as work clothing goes I bought a pair of the duck materials overalls from dickies. They are women’s and I love them. I am going get myself another pair with my next paycheck. I can wear short sleeves for now which is great because it gets really hot in the plant and it’s not even summertime yet. I imagine it gets really cold in the wintertime too. Not sure how long they’re going to have me doing the materials handling. They know I applied to learn how to fit/weld. Hopefully they move me into that spot to train sooner rather than later. I am learning a lot of useful stuff doing this though. Learning how to read the blueprints is really cool and knowing where to find everything and how to operate the cranes and forklift definitely makes me feel good. I am getting stronger with reading my tape measure too. If you made it this far, thank you for reading. ALL BIG MEN: stop wearing your pants under your gut!
Guys listen, I am a man who is 6”1’ and have fluctuated between 260-300 lbs most of my adult life, so understand this is said with respect and experience: wearing your pants under your gut/stomach will always look bad and always lead to ill fitting pants. Going through this sub I see people complaining about the fit of their pants and almost every single time the pants are probably 6 inches lower than they should be worn. Wearing your pants lower works against you in so many ways : 1) it makes your ass look weird and long because the seat of the pants are way below your actual butt 2) make your legs look short which makes for unflattering proportions, especially if you are a big man 3) makes your torso look too long If you struggle with the length of your shirt, this is probably why. If you get pancake butt where the seat of your pants hangs down, this is why. If the crotch of your pants is well below your natural crotch, this is why. If when you zip down your zipper it doesn’t align with your junk, THIS IS WHY. The solution to 99% of all men’s fashion issues, specifically larger men, is understanding proportions. The way your clothing breaks up your body changes the way you look more than any individual piece ever could. By wearing your pants at your natural waist, you get so much: 1) it lengthens your legs and makes you look taller 2) it emphasizes your shoulders and chest and most importantly 3) it breaks up the middle of your body (where most men hold their weight) and makes your gut less of an issue Some random fit pics to show what I mean. https://imgur.com/a/QsP88Bu EDIT: I want to make sure people understand what I’m saying here: you don’t need to wear your pants up to your nipples and no one is forcing you to do this, I just know that for so many years I was trapped in the mindset of only wearing my pants so low thst it limited my options so much. Some people with short torsos may not want to wear things this way, and that’s okay too. What I want is for you guys to step outside of your comfort zone and know that there are options and it’s not always going to make you look like Peter Griffin, which was my concern Lmaoo Brands I’ve found that fit higher waisted: Rosa Rugosa (by far the best but also the most expensive. They make sizes into the high 50s I believe and the quality is unmatched imo) 90s Levi’s (I buy them on ebay) Wrangler Jeans(make very large sizes and the rise is mid/high) Dickies 874 (I think these go up to like 46) Levi’s easy chino xx (elastic waist with a draw string, very high waist and a modern fit) Nike ACG smith summit pants (these are convertible shorts/pants. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I love them. I wear a 2xl comfortably) Y-3 (these are expensive but again very worth it. Their xxl fits up to 46 waist) Maharishi (I have expensive taste so I apologize but they make pants up to 3xl which is generally around 44-46 inches) Cookman (these are chef pants but I swear by them for everyday wear. They make them in a million styles and materials. These would probably fit well over a 50 waist) 3sixteen(expensive but this is a raw denim brand that makes larger sizes up to around 42-44) Red tornado (Chinese raw denim) submitted by /u/Nyyarlethotep to r/bigmenfashionadvice [link] [comments]

Carpenter pants for awkwardly sized men
Hi all. As the title suggests, I am an awkwardly-sized man. I have ALWAYS run into issues buying clothing, especially pants. Right now I'm on a carpenter pant kick. Carpenter pants would match a lot of what I wear really well. Looking for a light khaki, dark green, and a dark brown. Now for the hard part. I need these pants to NOT be loose/relaxed/straight fit. So far I've only found one pair at Dickies. I'm specifically looking for a tapered fit. I'm short and stubby, so I have a wide waist, thicker thighs, but small ankles. I bought the Carhartt pants that are currently trending in a 38 (which is generally a size up for me) and I couldn't button them, but my legs were DROWNING. If anyone knows where I can look, please point me in the right direction 🙏🏼 submitted by /u/dr330467 to r/mensfashion [link] [comments]

Need a recommendation for good men's work pants.
I am looking for some canvas type work pants with lots of pockets. I have looked at Carhartt, Duluth, Dickies, Ariat and a few others. So far I have not found what I am looking for. They don't seem to have the type of pockets and heavy duty construction I am looking for. My wife loves her pants from https://dovetailworkwear.com/ but they don't have men's stuff. Thier pockets and stitching are amazing and the material seems tough. If you know of anything like these for men please let me know. I could have just missed it while looking. Appreciate your help. submitted by /u/Living-in-liberty to r/homestead [link] [comments]

High waisted men’s pants for curvy enby?
Hi all, Looking for fashion advice. My biggest hiccup so far in exploring non-binary fashion is what pants to wear that look good and fit well. My stats: I’m on the curvy side 5’ 10” and 215ish. 37” waist 44” hips/stomach (give or take). Women’s pants size at Old Navy is a 16. 38/30 men’s pants usually, depending on stretch. Anyway, when I try on men’s pants, I feel like they don’t go up high enough and end up accentuating my curves more? In particular, the fat right above my butt. But when I size up, they’re falling off me. I would just stick with women’s pants, but they come up too high and throw off the masculine vibe, even though they fit well. Do they make high waisted men’s pants? I’d really love some solid denim recommendations, but also dickies style pants, or even joggers you love. I’ve been living in sweatpants the last year or so, and I want to feel sexy again. submitted by /u/ameliasaurus to r/NonBinary [link] [comments]

The best relaxed trousers — 13 bought and tested
We find ourselves living in a new normal, permanently working from home. This domestic setting means any kind of formal dressing feels stiff. Equally, I don’t want to wear sweatpants at all times (the delivery man is getting suspicious). Enter the relaxed trouser. I tried out 13 different pairs of relaxed slacks over a number of weeks. The Gramicci Gramicci Pants came out on top with their comfortable fit, versatile styling, extensive colourways and functional details. I also like the premium feeling and cosy Albam Ripstop Drawstring Trouser, and the great value of the Community Clothing Men’s Cotton Chino. Best overall Gramicci G Pant A versatile, comfortable, and affordable pair of trousers with a diamond gusseted crotch, and built in nylon belt. Its understated look and traditional cotton twill fabric belies is outdoor Japanese lineage. $90 Gramicci was a brand started in the early ’80s by a young climber named Mike Graham — the name was an Italian spin on his surname. Their early products were a pair of shorts and pants with some unique features, notably a diamond shaped crotch gusset to allow for movement, and a built in nylon belt for tightening or loosening the waist. It was a brilliant and widely copied innovation, and most outdoors companies have had a stab at it, but the Gramicci G‑Pant is the original and it remains a great pant. Like any great piece of work or sportswear, the G‑Pant has the edge of being designed for function and feels both solidly built and extremely comfortable. It also comes in a dizzying array of colours and variants due to its rebirth as a Japanese based clothing brand rather than the more functional and anti-fashion approach of a traditional outdoors brand. The pricing is reasonable at £75 pounds a pair and it’s widely available in a huge range of colours and fabrics. What I love most about it is its flexibility. The fabric is a fairly traditional twill so you can wear it like you would a smart pair of chinos but the nylon belted waist is and gusset crotch means it has the utility and comfort of a pair of sweats, and the minimal technical details means it’s just as good paired with a contemporary trainer and oversized sweatshirt. In fact, I wish I’d known about these when I was a 16 year old skater as I would gone crazy over the tapered/relaxed fit and comfortable, worn in fabric. It beats the hell out of the insanely stiff Dickies or Carhartts that we were wearing. Downsides My only issues in terms of the product itself was sizing. Presumably because they serve primarily the Japanese market, the G‑Pants come up small and I would definitely size up if you’re in between sizes. In transparency terms I could also find nothing to help me figure out the brands environmental or production credentials. This isn’t uncommon for a Japanese brand unfortunately, but it would be nice to see some basic information for customers attempting to make an ethics driven purchase. Also good Albam Ripstop Drawstring Trouser A premium feeling and supremely comfortable pair of pants available in some beautiful colourways. A visible drawstring detracts from an otherwise great garment. $99 The Albam Ripstop Drawstring Trouser has a fantastic loose, tapered fit with a premium feeling washed ripstop fabric (the sort of gridded fabric used for some military garments). With a small crop and and easy waist, I felt like I was wearing a pair of pyjamas. It was also on the more affordable end of the premium market at just under £100. That extra money buys you a notably better finish than the top pick, the Gramicci Pant and European production. The deep indigo blue, forest green and pastel shade colourways are also genuinely unique. The big downside for me was the visible drawstring in a contrasting ecru, which gave the trousers a slightly crunchy/hippieish look that was at odds with the finish and shape. I think they were going for 70s sportswear. I can’t help but wish they’d gone for a more technical drawstring or kept it internal for a cleaner finish. The latest versions of the style by the brand have done exactly this and I look forward to trying them out, especially in the wool fabrics of their AW20 collection. Budget pick Community Clothing Men's Cotton Chino A shockingly good price nets a very high quality and sharp looking pair of trousers. Made in UK heritage mill Brisbane Moss but the nature of Community Clothing means availability can be an issue. £59 This is a great trouser, at an incredible price. £59 gets you a product made in the UK, in a quality British cotton drill, from heritage UK mill Brisbane Moss. It feels like something you could easily sell for twice the price. The fit is fantastic, with deep, flattering pleats, a loose shape, and a gentle taper from the knee. What I love is the versatility of it. If your style leans classic, it would look great with a shirt tucked in or a piece of lightweight knitwear and some leather boots or derbies. If you’re more contemporary or streetwear orientated, with the cuff rolled up and pair of vans or converse and an oversized t‑shirt, you’ve got the perfect pair of kick around trousers. They also don’t have a drawstring so they are probably the easiest to smarten up of our top picks. The downside? Well, basically they are hard to get. The brand produces them in 3 colour-ways (olive green, navy and a light tan which we tested) but they only make them when there is downtime in their factory — the brand is part of an initiative by designer Patrick Grant to keep factories operating between fashion collections. This and disruption from the coronavirus pandemic means that they’ve only been available in a very limited run of colours since the beginning of our review period, several months ago. Representatives of Community Clothing say that the sizes will be restocked soon. Basically, if you can get ahold of them, these are great value for money and were a strong contender for our top pick. What to look for Availability: We wanted to make sure that I could find something that would be available year round. Range of colours: We wanted a trouser that was available in a decent range of neutral colours, in order to work as a wardrobe staple. Fabric: For our relaxed trouser, fabric was key. How it held up to being worn around the house and how it felt sitting long hours at a desk was essential. This meant primarily cotton in hardwearing qualities like twill and drill. These had to be easy to wear, clean and ideally get better with age. Fit: Relaxed essentially, but what does that mean? Well in practice we tried everything from cropped and tapered high waisted trousers to pleated, drawstring and hybrids of both in our hunt for the most comfortable WFH fit. The fits would mostly be somewhere between straight and an easy taper. Versatility: We wanted a trouser that could do smart in a pinch but didn’t seem stiff when paired with a sweatshirt or a hoody. Easy Care: The best pair of relaxed trousers had to be ones we were comfortable getting dirty in, whether cooking, putting out the trash or doing basic DIY, we didn’t want them to feel precious. Price: We figured that to be a staple you had to be able to afford multiple pairs. The price should probably sit somewhere between £50-£150 max. The competition The Studio Nicholson Bill Pant is a premium take on a straight leg work pant, and at £220 topped out our selection of trousers. You could feel the quality in the fabric, finish and moleskin-like brushed fabric, but the high waist tends to dig in a little if you sit in them for a long stretch and the fabric is a bit on the fussy side for an everyday trouser. I was excited by the Garbstore Work Easy Pant. The brands AW20 collection has some ace looking fabrics and this drawstring work pant in a Japanese cordura fabric looked really interesting. The finishing and quality of the trouser were good but I’m not sure they justified the price tag and fit-wise they came up surprisingly tight/slim for this kind of style. Expensive for what it is. The Oliver Spencer Judo Pant is a mainstay of the brand. They are well made in a brushed organic cotton, and manufactured ethically in Portugal. They almost made it as a top pick and I was really torn over including it alongside the Albam pant. But with a more tailored appearance and high waist it felt a bit too neat for this category and £50 more expensive than the Albam style. The Oliver Spencer Workers Trouser are similarly well made as their Judo Pant brothers, but were a bit of a disappointment. In the words of my wife “it isn’t sure what it wants to be” and I think that’s about right. It has a military style cargo pocket, loose straight leg and drawstring waist which are in theory great but feel like a lot going on when you are wearing them. The Universal Works Baker Pant is a long running style by the brand and I was really happy with them. A smart drill fabric, high waist and loose curved hem meant that they felt much more like a tailored trouser than a casual chino. That said they are great quality for the price and a good option if your looking for a smarter relaxed trouser. The Entireworld Cotton Pleated Trouser (Type B, Version 2) was a disappointment from a brand I really love in theory. The fit was surprisingly slim for pleated pants, and I’m not sure the welted pockets on the front or flaps on the back pockets really worked with this kind of style. I was fan of the almost oxford style Japanese fabric that the trouser was made of but on the whole it felt like a timid take on a pleated trouser. If you’re still in slim styles and are looking to branch out this might be a gateway style for you but I can’t help but wish they’d been a bit more daring with it. The Stan Ray OG Painter Pant is exactly that, a faithful take on the US workwear style, done in a coarse off-white raw cotton material and made to last with triple stitched seams. It felt authentic, stiff and not particularly comfortable. I really like how it draped through the leg. I would 100% size up on this style and it took time to break in. Cool but at £80 feels steep for such a basic utility garment. Filippa K’s Toby Trouser is their minimal Scandinavian take on the relaxed trouser and I really really liked it. It was made of a nice mid-weight twill in a wolf grey colourway. The neat flat front with a fly is a nice touch on a drawstring trouser and it felt like a versatile item. It's especially good value at £65 and the brand has some great sustainability credibility, showing the factories that each garment was produced in. The Dickies 874 Work Pant is the original workwear trouser and…well it feels like it. I can’t believe I used to skate in these, they are so coarse and stiff to break in, and admittedly they feel great once you get there (though the stain proof fabric is pretty damn sweaty). They also feel indestructible and are pretty affordable at around £40 but I’m too old to have pants this uncomfortable. They also come up small with a high waist, so size up if unsure. The Uniqlo Vintage Chino is the brand’s loosest fitting, never out of stock item and it’s got a lot going for it. The brand has clearly aimed to get all the details of the classic mid-century American chino right and update them for the contemporary consumer. The fabric, the finishing on the inside of the trouser and details like the ticket pocket were really well executed. Shape wise though, this is more like a slim taper than a truly straight fitting chino and I see it as the perfect trouser for a guy who wants to loosen up but is scared off by pleats and drawstrings. Great value at £35. This is a new guide from Typical Contents, the “wirecutter for clothes”. It’s by the team behind Epochs, a now defunct menswear blog. Altering Men’s Dickies for Women
Hi there! Basically I have been in love with Men’s Dickies for years but they do not flatter my hip area naturally and would like to start changing that. Has anyone ever adjusted the rise of men’s pants crotch for a woman and would you have any suggestions for making men’s pants flatter a woman’s hips better? submitted by /u/johnfoosball__ to r/sewing [link] [comments]

Beyond the Basic Bastard: Workwear and Americana
Beyond the Basic Bastard: Workwear and Americana This is the first thread in a series of threads about building your wardrobe in a specific direction after you have become content with The Basic Bastard Wardrobe. For the first iteration, we’re going to be going over one of /r/malefashionadvice’s original loves: workwear. MFA and workwear have had a long and storied relationship, but in recent years it has taken a backseat to things like SLP. Despite that, workwear is still a somewhat popular look that is easily accessible and easy to start wearing when you are coming from the Basic Bastard. This thread is not meant to be a comprehensive informational guide on the roots of the Americana & Workwear aesthetic. While that is an interesting topic, and is something I am interested in researching further, this is mainly meant to be an introductory wardrobe expansion guide for those that are new to fashion. Characteristics I should start by specifying that there is arguably a difference between Americana and workwear. Americana is a style inspired by heritage American clothing, while workwear is a style of clothing that draws from clothing worn by manual laborers. So while a greaser look might not perfectly fit into the aesthetic of workwear, and a french work jacket is not technically Americana, the aesthetics share so many similarities that making two separate guides would be difficult and unnecessary. From here on out, I will be calling the combination of the two aesthetics “workwear,” even though it would be more technically correct to include both each time. Traditionally, workwear has tough materials and roomier cuts. It is commonly associated with fabrics like denim, flannel, and canvas. Common footwear choices include leather boots and shoes. Common features of garments include tough materials, multiple pockets, and utilitarian roots. These garments were originally created for or chosen because of a combination of durability, utility, and price. A long time has passed since then, though, and fashion brands have drawn inspiration from and appropriated these looks for decades. Aside from manual laborers, plenty of garments have been taken from various militaries and incorporated into everyday fashion. Examples include M43 jackets and breton shirts, among many many others. Ideally, the modern versions of these clothes are made in their country of origin or another first-world country, and their durability should be on par with the originals. Buying Common Items Jeans: The most common and ubiquitous of any article of clothing under the workwear umbrella. You know what they are. Made of denim and usually blue, these pants eventually break-in and fit the wearer’s body like a glove. They can be worn with any casual outfit and you don’t have to feel bad about wearing them in the yard or spilling sauce on them. You probably already have these, but if you find yourself wanting another pair, consider trying a more roomy cut like the Levi’s 501 or Unbranded 601. Buy from: Levi’s, The Unbranded Brand, Sage Denim Also see: Building the Basic Bastard: Jeans White T-Shirt: A workwear classic, this workhorse wardrobe staple can be worn on its own or layered. For added authenticity, try a heavyweight t-shirt. Buy from: Hanes, Kirkland, Uniqlo, 3sixteen Also see: Building the Basic Bastard: T-Shirts Denim Jacket: Like jeans, but you wear it on your torso instead of your legs. Just like jeans, a denim jacket is a workhorse jacket than can be worn with anything except for jeans of a similar color. Buy from: Levi’s, Uniqlo, Tellason, Taylor Stitch Also see: Your favorite ___ for $___: Denim Jackets Chore Coat: The term “chore coat” is more of a blanket term for work jackets that otherwise don’t really have a name. Often characterized by having many pockets, both inside and out. A great outer layer that can be layered very easily. Buy from: Apolis, Pointer, Carhartt and Carhartt WIP, J. Crew, Etsy Flannel Shirt: Can be worn as an inner layer in winter and an outer layer in spring and fall. These shirts are versatile and useful to have, on top of just being plain comfortable. Popular patterns include buffalo plaid and blackwatch. Buy from: L.L. Bean, Portuguese Flannel, Woolrich Also see: Your Favorite ___ for $___: Flannels Denim and Chambray Shirt: Try throwing one of these on instead of the usual OCBD. These add a bit of texture to the outfit and can be worn either as an overshirt or a base layer. Buy from: Spier & Mackay, Levi’s, J. Crew, Taylor Stitch Henley Shirt: Originally a rowing shirt, these are great for when you want to add something with a little more character than a t-shirt and a little less than a button-up. Buy from: Target, L.L. Bean, Pistol Lake, 3sixteen Boots: Boots are mostly worn in Fall, Winter, and early Spring when the weather is cold. They are usually brown, and they look good with pretty much anything (are you seeing the pattern here?). They can take a beating and will last a long time as if you take care of them. When in doubt, throw these on with a pair of jeans. Buy from: Eastland, Golden Fox, Chippewa Also see: The 2018 Boot Buying Guide from /r/goodyearwelt Note: Eastland and Golden Fox are cheap, but you get what you pay for. Wolverine and Red Wing seconds can be found in the $200 range somewhat often. Keep an eye out on Sierra Trading Post and /r/frugalmalefashion for those sales. Other Items These items aren’t as overtly Americana/Workwear, but are still popular and versatile items to have in one’s wardrobe that either have roots in or fit in with the style. Leather Jacket: A classic choice for a stylish-yet-rugged jacket, leather jackets can be worn for a greaser look, or can be worn in a more sleek style. Plenty of fast-fashion stores have fake leather jackets, but those will fall apart quickly and/or age very poorly. For something that will last longer and look good doing it, leather jackets are an investment. See also: Leather Jackets: A Lengthy Buying Guide (v2.0) by /u/thecanadiancook Buy from: Beckett Simonon, Falcon Garments, but honestly just read that leather jacket guide. Pea Coat: Originally a naval coat, these are great pieces of outerwear that are cozy and versatile. They aren’t the best choice for warmer climates, though. Buy from: Banana Republic, J. Crew, Target Military Jacket: Though there is not just one military jacket, I am using it as a general term to cover different types of jackets, like an M43 or M65 (note the standing collar compared to the M43). Pocket and collar layout and design may vary, but generally these are olive or brown jackets with plenty of pockets. Some stores may also call them field jackets. Buy from: Uniqlo, Banana Republic Fatigue Shirt and CPO Shirt: Inspired by vintage military shirts, these shirts most easily worn over a t-shirt or button-up when it’s a bit too cool for just one layer. Buy from: Stan Ray, Schott, Military surplus stores Work Pants and Fatigue Pants: Try wearing these instead of the usual chinos. Often these pants have a distinct style of pockets. Though work pants and fatigue pants are different types of pants, I have lumped them into one section because I felt that they are not all that different. These types of pants may also have more pockets, and usually will be straight-cut rather than slim. Buy from: Carhartt and Carhartt WIP, Stan Ray, Dickies Breton Stripe Shirt: A shirt with a bit of character and a nautical heritage and vibe. Put one of these on with anything. They’re comfortable and more fun than an average t-shirt. Buy from: Muji, Armor Lux, Saint James Cable Knit/Aran Sweater: Aran sweaters were originally worn by fisherman from the Aran Islands off the coast of Ireland. These are more eye-catching than a normal crew-neck sweater, and are ideally nice and thick. Buy from: Inverallan, Aran Crafts, Howlin Cap-Toe Sneakers: I would be remiss if I didn’t at least mention these sneakers. An American classic, these sneakers can easily find their way into any outfit. Buy from: Converse, PF Flyers Moccasins: An alternative to boots that can be worn comfortably during the Spring and Summer, moccasins are a great choice for casual leather shoes, and can be worn more easily in a workwear wardrobe than something like sleek chukka boots or derbies. Buy from: L.L. Bean, Rancourt, Quoddy Brands Disclaimer: Some of the brands in this section, especially the ones featured in the one-dollar-sign budget tier, will likely sell many other things besides clothing that fits the workwear aesthetic. $ First, check places like thrift stores, military surplus stores, etsy, and eBay. Items like jeans, flannels, fatigue shirts, and work jackets can all be found for cheap. Carhartt: A classic workwear brand, Carhartt makes jackets, pants, sweatshirts, and more. Their cuts are a bit boxy, so if you find yourself wanting something that has a more modern and slim fit and you have money to spare, check out their WIP line, which is mentioned in the next budget tier. Dickies: Rugged work pants in a variety of fits at a great price. What’s not to love? They also make work jackets and shirts, but their pants are what they do best. J. Crew: J. Crew sells a large variety of clothes, some of them fitting the workwear wardrobe more than others. Most notably, the outerwear section has many items that fit the aesthetic, from pea coats to military parkas. Check back during Fall and Winter months for the best selection. J. Crew’s clothing is a bit overpriced at retail, so make sure to buy on sale at 30% off or more, which they run often. Levi’s: You know them for their jeans, but Levi’s also has plenty of other pants, shirts, and jackets (including denim jackets, of course) to complete a basic workwear wardrobe. L.L. Bean: A heritage American brand with a previously too-lenient return policy, L.L. bean makes solidly constructed clothing and accessories for traversing the great outdoors at very reasonable prices. Ralph Lauren: Though many MFA members (myself included) prefer other brands, it would be wrong of me to leave Ralph Lauren out of a heritage workwear brands list. RL of course makes polos, and also has a wide range of other shirts, pants, jackets, and more. $$ Bleu De Paname: A brand that makes great work jackets and pants, Bleu De Paname takes inspiration from French workwear. Carhartt WIP: The fashion-oriented brother of Carhartt, the WIP line is based in Europe, and makes classic workwear and Carhartt garments in more modern cuts. Jackets are less boxy, pants are a bit more tapered, etc. Gustin: Gustin is a brand with a crowd-sourced business model. The quality is great for the price paid, but be aware that you will have to wait for multiple months to actually receive your product. Gustin makes every core item in a wardrobe, from jeans and button-up shirts to leather jackets and white sneakers. Stan Ray: A brand that originally gained notoriety in the fashion world for their fatigue pants, Stan Ray has branched out to make more types of pants, jackets, shorts, and hats. Taylor Stitch: Taylor Stitch makes clothing that would be good for any Basic Bastard, and they have a solid selection of shirts and pants for a workwear wardrobe, including chambray, denim, and flannel shirts, as well as plenty of overshirts and a couple types of work pants. $$$ 3sixteen: Known for their great denim, 3sixteen also makes other staple pieces like shirts and jackets. Apolis: Apolis became popular for their MiUSA chore coats, but makes core wardrobe items like t-shirts, button-ups, jeans, and chinos. Filson: Usually recommended for their bags, Filson also has plenty of great outerwear as well as shirts, pants, and other wardrobe essentials. Folk: A English brand that makes clothing that is workwear-inspired rather than strictly workwear. Great small details and more minimal than most of the other brands listed. Rogue Territory: Like the other brands on this list, Rogue Territory makes anything a wardrobe could need besides footwear. Their Supply Jackets are their most well-known item. Judgement from on High: The Pill Mills Part 4
Sorry for the horrible delay on updates. I am novelizing the series. The following days were right before Christmas and I really had no interest in going back to my place, even for clothes. I called Debbie and let her know I’d be a little late and then texted Carl to see if he could check up on my place. Both said something along the lines of “no problem” and I went shopping for clothes at the nearest Marshall’s. I had forgotten that when you’re not locked in a dungeon that would make Charlie Sheen feel uncomfortable due to the amount of substance abuse, West Palm Beach is actually a genuinely nice place to live. During the winter the humidity and temperature both drop and it becomes increasingly difficult not to enjoy the brisker weather. I took advantage of this and the extra time and decided to get a few relatively nice things from the discount bin of the biggest Marshall’s in town before heading back to the motel room to shower and get changed. I wanted to do something other than wonder to what degree the bird monsters and whatever was driving that car were related to the other creepy shit. It was probably the first day I hadn’t tried to push it with the Xanax because I can remember it clearly without going to my journal. I didn’t want to think about the drug dealers, hooking, the smell of urine, feces and human rot that pervaded the clinic or the constant look of misery on every single person’s face. I stood outside of the motel as the sun was just finishing its rise, against the pit in my stomach that remained from Dave telling me it was the worst time of day to go outside. I kept an eye out for birds. The sky was an explosion of turquoise, with ribbons of violent pink and orange and reflective clouds that looked impossibly bright. This is a pretty typical Florida morning, especially in winter. It looked like a trapper keeper from the 90’s. Three hours later, the way the cashier at Marshall’s smiled with genuine looking happiness before going back to a conversation with a coworker shook me to the bone, like a cold shower after a bender. At about nine in the morning, the sky was bright blue in the morning but still shot through with a handful of scintillating neon tangerine bolts left over from sunrise. One of the upsides to living in a flat place that rarely give a hint that anything beyond tree level could exist is that riding over different parts of town could be an absolute thrill, especially with your windows rolled down or if you were lucky enough to own a convertible or motorcycle, enjoying the full throttle of the elements. Dave had sent a single text, asking me to meet him at Dubois Park in Jupiter. I didn’t feel great about this since it was along the water, but the thought that he at least knew something of what was going on and the fact that it was at 10:30, when families would be there, was reassuring. I stopped at the Paris Café near Clematis Street and treated myself to a chocolate brioche something or another. The streets around Clematis were much more developed than South Florida’s norm, and sported the closest things to skyscrapers West Palm Beach had, after this small area it shot down instantly to single story buildings and homes; the Trump Towers bedecked section of “Downtown”, where ghettoes filled with black people who had no hope left for better jobs or medical care sat next to cafes designed with yuppies in mind. A library was at the end of this street during the time, facing the waterfront with a massive glass window that was relatively gorgeous as far as public buildings in Florida go. At nighttime the area is usually a slow stunning show of neon pinks, oranges, blues and purples set amid a sea of jet black, from the signs of bars and other night time establishments. At daytime it’s a classy affair with small trees planted every now and then in between the beige to light pastel buildings with wealthy White people walking their dogs in between. No more than twenty minutes walking, the nice streets, or five minutes of driving, right past the City Place outdoor mall, and you would arrive at a place that would redefine how you viewed the words “poor” and “destitute”. After a few minutes driving over the only (man-made) hills in Palm Beach County I turned around to the nearby Okeechobee Blvd., which bookended the nicer part of City Place and drove to Military Trail where I drove north through suburbia for about an hour, skipping I-95 to enjoy the long way through South Florida. By the time I got to Dubois, it was 12:30 and I was right on time. Dave was waiting in a salmon pink Cuban-style linen shirt and black pants outside of the parking lot nearest the beach. There was a more secluded one inland near a massive brackish river, but I wasn’t going to argue with having families playing in sight. He stood aside a matte black Mercedes AMG something or another, with his arms crossed, smiling towards the sea. He almost looked like a particularly peaceful super villain. He motioned to a nearby picnic table within view of both the families and a massive rock sea wall that allowed a powerful man made river that ran the sea to inland water sources. The park itself was a historical one that was built on a midden used by the Jaega people who lived here before the Seminole or the Whites who came after. Aside from some old homes built over 100 years ago, there were a variety of archeological sites of interest to anyone who wanted to look at rocks some Natives used. Apparently due to the lack of load-bearing animals they had a tendency to live near large bodies of water even when the water wasn’t fresh, as it made travel and carrying baskets filled with goods easier. The traces of the buildings they made before being enslaved by Spaniards and taken to Cuba were found at some point during the 80s. It was a popular and beautiful park, hillier than you expect Florida to be. The sight of other people and the thought that he probably wouldn’t be friends with whatever I saw before reassured me enough to take a seat next to where he had a few joints and a sandwich and coffee from Havana’s, Palm Beach’s most popular Cuban restaurant. He smiled slightly unapologetically. “So let’s clear the air.” He clasped his massive hands together in a V over his breakfast. “First, I’m going to need you to hand me your cellphone.” This was a common, but mildly threatening practice. I’m not sure what good it would have done had the cops actually been watching. I handed both cellphones I owned to him, and he took this and put them in the trunk of his car for the time being. I know, I have no idea what possible good that would do even if I was an informant, but I assumed it was mainly for the show. These guys weren’t bright. When he sat back down, he looked particularly relaxed as he motioned for me to speak while he dug into what looked like a medianoche, a pressed ham sandwich on an egg bread similar to challah. “Listen, I’ve had a rough time with this. No one told me what was waiting for me at the drop and they haven’t exactly left me alone. I need to know what’s going on here.” I said this in an apologetic tone that surprised me, but the size of the muscles on this guy as well as his gun reminded me to be polite. Also, the fact that I would run out of pills within a week put more than a little pressure on me. He lit up a joint before replying, and took a long drag before exhaling and placing the joint on the table next to his sandwich. “You’ve done great. We’re all really surprised, you took this really well. I’m going to tell you what we know of this shit, but first let me just say that we had to make the drop there because the police wouldn’t go near it either and it was the only place we could have gotten away with it. We thought you would have had an easier time getting in and out, but I’m glad you made it out safe and we’ll know better than to throw you out like that next time.” Despite an absolutely reassuring tone, I could not have been more horrified. He knew something was there and the cops were prone to avoiding it as well. I had to wonder if the well-dressed man would be able to interact with police the same way he did with junkies. Were there old ladies who just called the police three times a week about the bird demons terrorizing their teacup yorkie without getting a response? Did the Young Men’s Choir at Palm Beach Atlantic just learn to schedule their beachside concerts around possible swooping attacks? “What were those fucking things?” This time I spoke without any reluctance, now that he had acknowledged the frightening part of this I didn’t hold back. “We don’t know. That’s the honest truth of it, man. The people who told us about them used to be with the “Cocaine Cowboys” of the 70s, who would drop packages of blow in the Everglades by prop plane. Apparently they ran into a lot of problems.” “What about the car?” This time he looked at me as if I might not be serious. “A little while ago a friend of mine died. Now his car has been showing up, without the engine on, stalking me.” “Wilks…you need to listen to me…we’ve never heard anyone complain about a car. We’ve heard a lot of spooky shit, and keep in mind to not ask anyone about traveling near Yeehaw Junction again, but driver-less cars just haven’t been on the list. Maybe one of your friends ringmates have the car and just put quieter mufflers on it? Are you sure it wasn’t a junkie? I hate to break it to you, but they might start wondering what you’re keeping at home. You should consider buying a gun, one way or the other.” It seemed a bit absurd that he thought I was being ridiculous for worrying about the car after being attacked by bird creatures. A slight hint of a Boston accent came out when he pronounced ‘car’ as ‘cahhr’. I was instantly relieved that at least that seemed, to him, to not be supernatural and desperately wanted to believe that it was just a B&E from some guy while I was wasted. After having it confirmed that those may, in fact, have been something non-human attacking my car, it would be nice to have a human source of fear again. He put his sandwich down, finished a chew and followed up with the coffee you could smell from a block away. “Why don’t you tell me what files to pull that came with your friend and I’ll find out if one of them has been seen driving the car?” I described the Buick while he texted the information to some unknown colorful wad of muscle. He resumed talking while he did it. “So, we’ve heard about the other shit though. Bird people, right? We heard them called Stickaninny or something before, at least that’s one some pill-billies call them, but we don’t know what they are. We just know to avoid them, just like anything else weird we encounter. We’re drug dealers, not whatever bureau gets assigned to shit like this. What I can tell you is simple, stay away from beaches during the morning. If something takes an interest in you, avoid anyone else and stay indoors for as long as you can. We’ve heard of people getting tricked by things using other people’s voices, but never during broad daylight, always at night or in the early morning, but usually the morning.” He said this seriously, but with the attention someone would give a list they had read out loud too many times before. “What about that guy with the stupid tie? He left something at the clinic after he came…” He nodded solemnly at me. “I know Wilks. And you’re doing damn good by keeping quiet through all of this. We don’t know who or what that guy is, but he’s showed up at other clinics before and he’s been known to go through clinics in an area. Whenever he shows up at one he’ll be nearby later, maybe at a motel where groups are staying or something like that, but he always moves from area to area. I told you as soon as I could after he left the American Injury Clinic. It may take a while, but he always comes around. Other than that, I’ve only heard stories, but those stories come from as far away as Oregon, where the European Kindred were apparently looking for him.” The European Kindred are a group of racists loosely connected to the Aryan Brotherhood known for haunting the poorer and more ignorant parts of Northern California to Washington and Idaho. They were just as frequently known for violence and if I remember they were prominently featured in a horror movie recently, something they are probably proud of. The distance that guy seemed to be able to cover was something to be worried about, and if a group connected to the AB couldn’t put a bounty on the guy it probably wasn’t much use trying to get to the bottom of him myself. “Does he have a name? Lloyd, or maybe Lyle or something?” He looked at me with a look of patience being expended. “If someone asks him his name, they’re probably so fucked it’s not worth worrying about. At least that’s what I’ve been lead to believe. You’re better off having a conversation with the DEA as far as getting dead goes.” He happily went back to his sandwich. I didn’t know what else to ask without accusing him of lying and knowing more than he was claiming. He seemed to enjoy the silence while I sat and thought about this. “I can’t tell you how much of this is junkie talk and how much of it is real, like those fucking bird things. What I can tell you is that if a bunch of organized crime groups and drug dealers all start avoiding something, you should too. I’ve heard tons of crap that turned out to be just crap. These people are loaded most of the time anyways. But it’s not like anyone has ever taken the time to explain this shit to us, we’re just hearing about it while we try to make money, you know?” This didn’t answer why I had to make that drop and I became increasingly aware of the fact that he sent me out knowing there was danger and wasn’t telling me why that place was necessary. Once he resorted to the old “they’re just junkies who don’t know what they’re talking about” bit, I knew he was done talking. Honestly, at least. I kept repeating the word ‘Stickaninny’ in my head, over and over. I was hoping it meant something and wasn’t just typical hick slang. I took a few bites of the croissant from my favorite café and pretended that I was put at ease over his comfort with the supernatural. I took a joint and lit up myself, and sure enough it was a good one. I took a moment to fantasize that if I ever got arrested, it would be worth it for me to snitch just to ask what the cops knew during the proffer (the meeting with the prosecuting attorney where you trade knowledge of other people’s crimes for your own freedom). For the time being, I desperately tried to play it cool. “Ok, well, cool.” There was a high pitched squeak somewhere in there that made him smirk and raise an eyebrow, but other than that he seemed to ignore it and nod happily before wolfing down his sandwich. For a moment I wondered if they would have rolled over on it had I been ripped apart by said bird things. If the cops already knew but didn’t put a patrol car out with a guy and some birdshot it probably wouldn’t do any good to do anything else. We made some small chat where I told him a story about an old lady pretending to be crippled to get more meds and then dropping her crutches and running like hell when someone got too close to her bag that was left in the waiting room. He had a great one about a guy with swastikas tattooed everywhere complaining that the black doctor was racist against him for not prescribing more than normal despite a clearly badly cut finger. Then, of course, he asked me if we were ‘cool’. I couldn’t say no to more drugs, and I mean that in a very literal way. It wasn’t really an option. This made me hate him even more. He reminded me of the clinic and I’d rather emasculate myself with broken glass than have an extended conversation with him, but you do a lot of weird, horrible shit for drugs. I got out of there and texted Debbie that I’d need the rest of the day, which she didn’t object to. Carl had tried to call me twice. I began heading back to my shack after listening to the message Carl left saying that my door had been flung open and much of my possessions were lying out in my front lawn. He also said that he had just gotten out of the hospital for a “little thing” and that he had taken too many pills. I wondered, briefly, how much stress this put on his poor mother. It was his third time with an overdose this year, and it was right before Christmas. It was a miracle he kept surviving them. If I had neighbors who had to drive by my place, this may have even been a problem. When I got there, my hackles began to rise immediately. I took a few moments after the long fifty five minute drive from Jupiter to my place to stretch and carefully look up and down my road for any sign of a sneaking Buick or bird feathers. I didn’t see them on the road or the way to my front door, but noticed the telltale signs of junkies after that. A crushed Mountain Dew can was lying on my pathway. Someone had pissed and shat all over my bed and there was chewing tobacco on my couch. My TV had been stolen, anything else was scattered or destroyed, including three windows. I couldn’t be happier. If this meant that Dave was right and that was just a breaking and entering I experienced while wasted, that may have been the greatest news of my life. I cleaned up to the best of my ability, threw away my bed, and got high as fuck on my reclining chair, which only had a couple cigarettes put out on it. I had taken my drugs with me and they probably weren’t happy at leaving empty handed. I snickered at the thought of Dave’s goons figuring out who they were and fucking them up and mildly regretted not being able to call the police. Still, the drugs were worth more than everything in the house and they didn’t touch them. I Googled Florida’s gun buying process on my phone and texted Carl back that everything was under control and that I wouldn’t mind hooking him up later as the pills I ate were slowly absorbed. I rarely went for the quick high and preferred the slow moving lurch of the pills when they were taken orally, and Roxicodone and Xanax both had excellent oral bioavailability rates. First, I got a relatively cheap new computer. It was nice to see a normal retail store and I enjoyed wasting the associate’s time, watching the high school kid upsell me eventually to something that could play a video game or two. I didn’t have the heart to tell him why I didn’t want to open a credit account and needed to pay for it in cash. Then went to a shooting range and got the small booklet I needed on gun safety and gun laws before heading home for some Googling. I absentmindedly left a message for my landlord about the broken windows, knowing that he would certainly force me to pay for it anyways and that I should probably call a glass place. After arriving at my now much more drafty and urine scented home, I plugged my new ‘rig’ in and started the long boot process. Instead of looking up glass though, I decided to find out what a ‘Stickaninny’ is. Needless to say, “Stickaninny” didn’t bring anything up, and neither did a combination of that and “Bird” or “monster”. When you Google things like this you usually end up wading through websites made by new agers who seemed to compensate for their lack of knowledge with enthusiasm and shitty backgrounds but eventually you might get the rough edges of an idea. It didn’t take me long, however, to find out that many Seminole believed in a sorcerer called “Stigini” that often took the shape of an owl. Apparently it was believed to be a shape shifter with the ability to take on an owl-like form that it then used to hunt humans. Unfortunately, I only found a single webpage that seemed legitimate. It covers Native American legends. I couldn’t find any information on how to kill one, just in case, nor any hint of why they might take an interest in drug addicts. I quickly wrote a couple of emails to the website and to another group of Facebook that apparently focuses on Native American stories from Florida specifically, but tried to make it seem like I wasn’t fishing for information on how to deal with them in real life. Then I called my landlord and got yelled at for a few minutes over the windows, which I claimed were in perfectly good shape when I left my home for work one day, before securing a cheap new bed to be delivered via Craigslist. The word ‘Stigini’ kept repeating in my mind, like a catchy tune I couldn’t get out of my head. After the bed came and I found a lamp post that looked like it could vaguely defend me against an unarmed hobo, I got ready for an early night of drug use and romantic comedies blaring at high volume. I didn’t want to sleep there and was suddenly more aware than ever that the drug dealers who tore my place apart would be more than willing to beat the shit out of me or kill me for drugs, but we don’t always get to choose. It occurred to me that in light of recent information it was very likely that Corey was given a ‘hot dose’, or a small but deadly amount of fentanyl or something mixed with his normal junk. It was a common way of getting rid of unwanted junkies when a dealer needed things to calm down and there was no telling how many overdoses were actually murders. The police never investigated anyways. Hours later, before nodding off, I would wonder if Corey Franks told them something that would make me seem like a particularly good target before either they or his own prescription killed him. The next day went by with the usual amount of urine and fighting. Debbie called me into her office towards 11 to let me know I could go home early and pass on a message. “George wants me to tell you something important.” She said that in a calm, but severe manner. As the head of the operation, I had never been in the same room as him. It was important to make sure only certain people interacted with us so that the FBI didn’t have photographs of the entire group working together, because that would make a RICO case a cakewalk. Getting a text or phone call from him would be unheard of. Being asked to meet him in person was like getting to meet a celebrity you never wanted to meet and being expected to pretend to be interested in everything they say. George had an incredible level of control over me simply because I didn’t want him to think he needed to correspond with me any further. “Alrighty…” “You need to think about whether or not someone has gotten angry with you lately…” “Is this about the car?” I cut her off almost right away. For a moment I hoped this related to the car whose occupants may or may not have just been junkies who broke into my place. “No, Wilks, you need to think. Who or whatever attacked you has a reason for it. We don’t know why they pick people, but it’s not always random, we think. This is serious. Sometimes they come back, but we don’t know what they can or can’t do.” She said this in a tone that was almost angry. I’d heard her use it before when she needed me to do something serious, usually involving instructions on avoiding law enforcement. “Dave is looking into that car you told him about…you should have mentioned something sooner. Whoever is doing that may be behind everything else. He thinks it might be someone named Teddy Rance, the guy who used to ringlead for your friend’s group. There’s a good chance he’s at the Castle Inn near Palm Beach Lakes tonight, his friends just stopped by American Injury…” She began to rattle off details of the group that traveled with Corey Franks. The group was now probably being closely watched by authorities thanks to my giving them all of the information possible on them and essentially fingering them in his death. “You need to crash at my place tonight. You’ll be as safe as it gets there.” Sleeping in the house of a notorious crime boss normally doesn’t sound like a good idea and I hustled fast for a way out of it. I couldn't find one. At about five thirty, I ended up meeting Debbie at her place. One of the doctors had me stay later than normal to help organize some Roxicodone he had to sign over to another doctor to hide the fact that we were missing thousands of pills. It was located in Wellington, a relatively wealthy area known for cookie cutter McMansions in gated communities. The gate, as well as the cameras, drastically increased my confidence that this may have actually been a good idea. The memory of the sheer amount of firepower kept in the house also helped. The house itself was two floors and looked much like the other massive homes in the neighborhood, with a massive pool and lagoon in the backyard. It had massive, sharp angles for a roof. A single second floor window looked out over the front door, almost looking like a Cyclops. Debbie’s BMW M6 sat in the driveway next, dwarfed by George’s outrageous Ford pickup truck, which appeared to me to be the approximate size of a semi-truck, outside of a five car garage that I knew was filled with a variety of vehicles. The home had cathedral ceilings and marble floors that made the entrance foyer look bigger than my home. It may have been. The furniture was all black leather, with dark walnut wood for cabinets, but mostly black and steel. It looked like the interior of a sports car, but endless, with a huge room that drifted between spaces used for a kitchen and what could have been five living rooms, all overlooking the beautiful lagoon. George himself sat on the sofa, it would be impossible to miss him. He was wearing a black tank top and black sweatpants that revealed his Winstrol enhanced muscles and his gigantic swastika tattoo on his arm. He had a flat top that made him look like a slightly greying (he was in his early thirties, but had a couple streaks and didn’t hide them) criminal version of a marine. Two skinheads with tattoos on their faces flanked him silently, who I would later discover were Steve and Kyle. One had only a small line of tear drops, while the other had his entire neck and arms entirely covered in addition to tear drops, a swastika between his eyes and a quote along the line of his ear. This was Kyle, and I had heard about him before. Both wore an almost uniform like pair of black dickies shorts and white t-shirts that I had seen on some Floridian skinheads before. George nodded to me when I came in and motioned for me to sit on his couch with Debbie and him as they watched Duck Dynasty, without saying anything. In between commercials, he bounced off of his couch to me, smiled charmingly and shook my hand. “George.” “Wilks” We introduced ourselves with our names alone, but he warmed up after Duck Dynasty was over. “So, what happened?” He asked this casually while preparing a meal that he seemed to be focused on controlling down to the calorie. “And are you hungry?” I told him I was and filled him in on what happened at the dead drop. He listened silently while I rambled on about Corey Franks, the birds, the guy in the bolo tie, everything. Debbie stared at us with a concerned and interested face. When I was done explaining it all the first time, so was the meal. Dinner was a single skinless, boneless chicken breast with a lot of greens and exactly a tablespoon and a half of dark brown rice. The fat man in me was horrified and I plotted on eating two Publix subs to compensate for this. As I finished explaining the Samantha thing for the second time, he sighed and motioned for me to let him speak. “I’m sorry you’ve had a rough run of it. They’re something we’ve seen once, or twice, but never as frequently as you’re describing. We’ve only heard about them from people who had isolated encounters with them…you’ve seen them at least twice and the first time was on your first day. I’m really hoping they aren’t interested in you specifically. Aside from what Dave told you, I’m afraid I don’t really know anything else. We focus on police movements, things that cause junkies to disappear are dime a dozen and never get genuinely investigated, so aside from your situation nothing like this seems to have ever focused on us before. But yeah, we do know about them. We were hoping they would ignore you because you’re new, and that seems to make a difference.” He said this in the most erudite tone you could ever imagine, polite and with excellent pronunciation. As he finished the painfully small meal, he nodded to Kyle, who began to count out a myriad small pills for himself for desert. He was taking “scoops”, or GHB, which body builders sometimes took for sleep and everyone else took to get fucked up. I was grateful that he had managed to somehow make me feel safe in this disaster and wasn’t quite up for question and answer time, so I popped a few of the ones he had out, as well as my normal regimen of a shit ton of Xanax and just a little bit of Soma and Roxicodone. We went to the couch again, and we all placed our feet on the massive coffee table that stood in front of the couch, with little spots especially for comfortable feet holsters. For a moment I imagined any European at all being offended at this custom design, but then I drifted into a rerun of The Walking Dead. I guess George and I didn’t agree on what made for pleasant sleeping entertainment. I suppose taking a few days light did more good than I normally assumed it would, because I went right to sleep after that. I woke to the sound of their grand doorbell ringing. “No…nurgh…” I grunted at Debbie. But she was up and moving the moment the doorbell rang. She opened the door and smiled to whoever was outside of it before I heard a woman’s voice beg for help and begin to vomit uncontrollably. Whoever was there managed to get Debbie to open the door without anyone else by her. I heard a feeble female voice begging her again. Then I heard a sickening wet splash hit the concrete in front of her door. Debbie screamed. “Oh shit!” At the sound of her raising her voice, whatever was left of the adrenaline in my body kicked into action. I tried to get off of the oversized couch and look around, but everything was black and someone had thrown a blanket over me. I fell to the ground instantly and hit my head on the enormous coffee table. “Shit! Help!” Debbie screamed to both me and George as I heard the front door fly open. I could see her turned, facing me while I heard George in the cavernous bedroom on the opposite side of the living room, a great distance away. It sounded like he was moving fast, whatever he was doing. She rushed out to help whoever it was while I was still stunned. Ahead of her, from the doorway, I saw very little light, but a ribbon of red run from the ground in front of the door to the area where the light from outside could not reach. “No! No, Debbie, NO!” I screamed at her while I got out off of the ground and got to the door as quickly as possible. Every step seemed to take an eternity and I heard sobbing and retching while I ran. And there was Carl’s mother, Cynthia. The delicate old woman was wearing a pair of sweatpants and an old t-shirt and not her normal semi-formal attire, but I could recognize her. She was almost doubled over, but I could see her face clearly. It was craned upwards to the door. Blood and long ropes of viscera were pouring out of her mouth and onto the ground endlessly. Debbie was trying in vain to help her, placing his hand on her back and telling to me come help, or call an ambulance or something. She took a second look at Cynthia when she noticed the horrified look on my face. I don’t remember what she was saying; only the look on Cynthia’s blood covered face as she looked up at me and smiled. A long rope of gore was attached to some kind of roundish object that had just made its way out of her mouth. Her entire body was impossibly thin, except for her arms which seemed to be bigger. He face had gotten wider her skin paler than cocaine and her skull and hair seemed to rise in two sharp ridges above her eyes, which were now bloodshot and seemingly stretched. Debbie began to back away slowly, and then shouted for George, before a horrible sound erupted from Cynthia’s throat. “You’re…killing…my…son…” The voice was twisted, warbling and growling at the same time. It was both extremely high and extremely low pitched. Cynthia wretched more, and it seemed like the last of a pile of her intestines and other innards had collected at her feet. She stood up, suddenly strangely graceful, despite being covered in blood. Her eyes had grown massively wide, and her mouth was beginning to take an angular shape, almost like the “duckface”, but horribly out of proportion, making her mouth look terribly sharp and the skin suddenly very hard. We all stood silently for just a moment, Debbie in shock, as Cynthia surveyed us and the area above us carefully. The skin of the old woman was pure white, but strangely mottled. These changes made Debbie decided that this was clearly a threat. A tiny pistol appeared out of nowhere and I fell to the side. “George! Trouble!” I had already known George was coming the first time she called him, but now I got an idea as to why it took him a moment when he knew there was an issue tonight. I began to hear heavy footsteps making their way to us from some bedroom off to the side. A metallic clink followed, followed by two quick blasts from Debbie’s small handgun. An incredible splatter occurred, like hitting a water balloon with a baseball bat. Cynthia’s face blew inwards and her tiny body staggered back, but she was still moving. It felt like it took entire minutes to get back up and start running into the house. Debbie was right behind me, and I heard another quick blast before she shut the front door. A horrific sound came from outside the door, an animal wail of rage and pain. It slowly gained in volume and pitch until becoming a terrifying shriek that echoed throughout the area. The thought of the police, for once, seemed to be on no one’s mind. I remember going around a corner to the kitchen area to hide as I saw him walk out with a furious look on his face and a massive shotgun in his hands. I peered around the corner only to see the massive giant point it wildly after opening the door, only to see nothing there. A strange sound seemed to move directly over us and then back near the door. We heard what sounded like cackling. From the backyard we suddenly heard someone cry out and a single shot go off. I looked and can only assume they did too, but I didn’t see anything out the back, which was entirely visible through the wall of glass that allowed the previously beautiful view. Within a few seconds, we heard a quick scream in front of the house and a splat. As I slowly crept up on the area to see what that was, I noticed a massive red stain on the concrete where Cynthia had showed up. She had taken her entrails with her for some reason. Behind the stain, in the road, was a crumpled body, on which I could make out a lot of red and what appeared to be a pair of Dickie’s shorts. George stared down at the ground in the same area before slamming the door and calling a few friends, as well as the police. I couldn’t quite hear that call. He then went to a small panel about ten feet from the front door in the foyer and began flipping switches on it. Floodlights turned on all around the house, and shutters dropped in front of every window. Also, a horrible wet sound came from directly above the front door. Apparently we had interrupted Cynthia with whatever she was doing, because the next thing I saw was George sticking his head out of his door, firing two quick shots into the sky before going back behind the door frame. Debbie motioned for me to get back and kept her gun up, but not pointed at the door area where her boyfriend was. Suddenly, in a disgusting surprise, the seemingly loose pile of innards that had violently erupted from the old woman hit the ground directly under the perch above the door. Spooked, George accidentally fired a shot into the disgusting wet and black pile instantly before aiming upwards at out unseen assailant again. Instantly, a horrible sound rang out. The scream that came from above was beyond horrible. In the road in front of the massive house we suddenly saw a small white and red body fall to the ground about seventy feet away from either Steve or Kyle’s corpse with a wet ‘thwack’. George looked down at the pile of guts he had just shot with surprise and then to the now lifeless body in the middle of the road. In the distance, we could hear sirens. We got our stories straight after a moment of trying to figure out how shooting it's intestines killed it. That Native mythology group told me later, apparently salt works on their guts too. We told the police we didn't see how Cynthia died. Apparently Kyle decided to stay over and we would later find that his body had been crushed from an incredible impact, such as by falling or getting hit by a car. We decided to say that we didn’t see it, and since the neighborhood surveillance came up with nothing, we were only suspects. That’s pretty good, by our standards. We heard plenty of saber rattling about it later and it was in the news, but it was assumed that someone tried to rob George and failed. The cops seemed to want nothing to do with it. Cynthia’s body was never identified and we were in no rush to help with that. I was told that someone would be by my place with cash, but to lay low until they figured shit out and waited to see where the cards fell with the cops. I was mainly worried that Carl had more family I had to be aware of. He would never see his mother again and would never find out why. Four days later, right after Christmas, he overdosed. For good, this time and from the pills I gave him. I think about that a lot and generally drink a lot on Christmas. I wonder if Cynthia did whatever she did to protect Carl. I wonder if she ever had a bad bone in her body, or if I had driven her to a new extreme by slowly murdering her son, pill by pill. I used to tell myself that he was just a guy who made shitty decisions, but I can see the reality now. If it weren't for me, they and too many others would still be alive. I hope I get the chance to update this further…as to what happened in the years later. For now, I gave Jessica the username and password for this account. She’s still pretty obsessed with that girl who went missing years ago. submitted by /u/IEscapedFromALab to r/nosleep [link] [comments]

List of a couple of inspo albums
Hi guys, as you guys saw, /u/nudie made an inspo thread. I made this huge list of some of the inspo albums and I thought I should make a text post just in case you missed it or if the commentsection is a too small place too read all of the albums so I decided to make a huge list which I update as often as I can and I sorted all the albums after the alphabet. If you want to add your inspo album or any other inspo album comment it with title and link. If you want to keep updated save or bookmark this thread. I'm going to do a new one in probably half a year, just after the thread has been archived. So finish with the unnecessary text, here are the albums. 374 Inspiration Albums in this list: General: 80s Type: http://imgur.com/a/MwmEF 80s / 90s / Punk / Rap / Skater / Women:
