So I was on a Spirit flight earlier today and bought a Diet Coke mid-flight. I poured it into the cup and immediately noticed it tasted weird — like kinda flat and off. So I checked the bottom of the can and saw the best-by date: MAR2425. I called the flight attendant over and let him know it was expired (since today’s April 25, 2025), and he looks at the can for like a full minute… then goes, “This isn’t expired. It says 2425 — as in the year 2425. You’ve got so many years left.” Dude really thought my Diet Coke was good for another 400 years. I know diet sodas have 0 calories and are supposed to be a good alternative when trying to lose weight. It's just flavored soda, and the ones with caffeine also help suppress appetite. But it sounds too good to be true, right? I have also heard that it disturbs the gut microbes, which are linked to physical and mental well-being. I just want to know if they are safe to consume, and if so, what is the limit, because I tend to have 2 cans of Diet Coke some days. Can someone explain how diet sodas have 0 calories? My gf and I argued a couple of times now over this topic. Whenever I buy a soda, I order a diet/zero-sugar coke/pepsi. And my gf says buy a normal one instead, because the artificial sweetners which they put in it are very harmful. I say diet ones are not beneficial for my health, but also not 'harmful' for my health. many people grew up drinking coffee or tea, and thus drink that as they get older. however, i grew up in a similar way with diet coke. there was no coffee or tea in the house- the drink of choice was diet coke. however, diet coke was recently declared carcinogenic so i tried to stop drinking it and switch to coffee. i like coffee, but nothing compares to a ice cold diet coke for me. i also heard diet coke is carcinogenic, but the evidence was inconclusive. i used to drink way too much diet coke, so much so that i once almost got sick from it. do you think if i cut my diet coke drinking down to 1 20oz or 16oz bottle a day, i will be okay? i would probably be drinking 4 of these a week. submitted by /u/Muted_Caterpillar655 to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

Yes, even though Coke Zero has been out for nearly 20 years, I'm standing by this. There's no way in hell anyone can possibly believe that Diet Coke tastes better than Coke Zero. When I go to a restaurant, I want Coke Zero to be the default sugar-free Coke, not Diet Coke.
