Went to David's Bridal for my dress and witnessed a crazy MIL trying to get a dress for the "flower girl" 2 weeks before an extravagant wedding
so I wasn't sure what flair to use or whether or not this was the right subreddit so 🤷 So I got my dress at David's Bridal. Yay! I am happy with my dress and was getting ready to finish up getting back into my non-fantasy fit when I heard an older woman talking about getting a dress for the flower girl and the wedding in 2 weeks. She sounded flustered and British and in a rush. Honestly, the only reason I mention she is British is because she sounded funny considering everything. so I come out of my dressing room in my normal clothes and 5 seconds later, a little girl who couldn't be older than like 6 comes out of the dressing room looking like Charlotte from the Princess and the frog. CUTEST LITTLE CUPCAKE I HAD EVER SEEN (Picture for reference)! I react with "Ay Que Linda!" ("oh how beautiful!" ) and a big smile. the little one looked at me and her whole face lit up and she was bouncing happily around in the dress. she loved it! they did the accessories and everything for her. she looked like a Lil princess! Meanwhile, the grandma is saying the context of the wedding happening in 2 weeks with 600 rich people in NEW YORK and the groom and bride "forgot to find a flower girl." all the employees and I remark that they absolutely love the cupcake dress little girl was in and she seems happy in it as well so that might be her dress. the grandma goes on saying she hated the dress and that the dress "looks cheap!" to me, the employees, and TO THE LITTLE GIRL'S FACE. Little one doesn't know what "cheap" is. she just knows that she feels pretty and comfortable. so the mother of the little girl is also there. she was quiet at first but when she saw the little girl in the cupcake dress, she was also very happy and had a big reaction to the dress. and as soon as grandmama (I think she was the Mother of the Groom??) started hating on the dress, the mom looked horrified and was silently going around to everyone saying "I know she looks great in that dress, she loves it and you're not gonna hear complaints from me. But *her* on the other hand...(slight gesture to grandma)" and threw her hands in the air... my stylist had me signing up for loyalty points at this moment so I stopped and looked at the mom and said, "I don't work here, but... that Lil girl loves being a cupcake 🧁 and I'm certain she would hate to leave without that dress." the mom took my note then went to every employee telling them the exact same thing. the employees were telling the grandma that little girl only had a few options and because the wedding is in TWO WEEKS they can't do many alterations or orders in that time frame and have it ready in time. grandma was furious throwing all the "bloody hell's" out there. moving forward, I was kind of meandering looking at accessories until my stylist was free to take the iPad away from me when the little girl comes out in a small white gown. As if she were the one getting married. everyone was pretty silent except for grandma who was gushing about how beautiful she looked. little one looked at me for approval and when she saw I was like "meh.. thats cute too I guess.." little one was not having it. thats when I knew I needed to make my exit. she was thrashing and was so uncomfortable in that dress and I saw it on her face. grandma was like "oh its giving Vera Wang!" while the little one is pulling at the front of the dress like it was choking her. I looked at little ones mom and she was looking at little one like "absolutely not." I ended up leaving before a decision was made, but while I was checking out, I could hear the grandma raging at the staff about not having enough dresses and the dresses all looking cheap. I looked at my cashier and said "does this really happen every time?" And she just shrugged and said "yeah... what if the bride and groom didn't want a flower girl?" and I just was like "Exactly..." I hope that little girl got her dress in the end. the way grandma was saying the dress "looked cheap," kind of hit something in me and I wish I were able to do more. The assumption is that the grandmother of the little girl is the Mother of the Groom because she was talking mostly about him "forgetting" about a flower girl from what I remember. TBH it was giving Monster-in-law. If you are having a big 600-person fancy wedding in 2 weeks in New York at the Waldorf Astoria (she told staff AND me), I recommend talking to your mom/Mother-in-Law about some boundaries.... and getting that Lil girl her cupcake dress dammit. submitted by /u/Cookiecakes25 to r/weddingshaming [link] [comments]

We fought for that with the school board and admins in our school and won. Prior to that, girls weren't allowed to wear pants of any kind, just skirts and dresses, and boys had to wear slacks. Jeans were forbidden and so were t-shirts. So we didn't have that option for most of my school years.

AITAH for not letting a girl dressed as a “slutty elf” who ended up at my house borrow some sweats after she was uncomfortable and cold?
Edit: I said hello to Natalie this morning. She was very nice and accepted my apology and also said she was sorry for invading my space on Friday. She talks a lot which I guess I would usually find pretty annoying but I didn’t seem to mind with her. It turns out we both have a break between classes so we just stood there talking for about 20 minutes, well she talked I just nodded my head. When it was time to leave she said it was a really nice conversation which made zero sense because i didn’t say much but I went against my instinct to correct her. She said she’d like to do it again sometime and I said would too. I posted this yesterday on another sub but they removed it because “there was no interpersonal conflict” so no one got to vote. I mean the conflict was between me and the girl and me and my sister. There’s a small update since I did the original while I was breakfast with my sister. Not sure where to begin with this. I guess last night one of the more popular frats on campus was having a “Christmas on the beach” themed party so all around the bar area were girls dressed in bikinis with vague Christmas themes. My roommate is dating this total nut job named Sydney and as far as I knew they were broken up. Well at like 2am he bombs through the door with Sydney and her friend in tow, both dressed like “slutty elves” with way too much skin showing. My roommate and Sydney went to his room and still haven’t come out. I was playing Fortnite and the other girl said she was the designated driver and was stuck would she mind if she charged her phone and hung out until she knew what Sydney was doing. I said fine. Maybe 15 minutes later she said something like “I know this is so weird for both of us but I’m not here by choice, I just don’t want to bail on my friend but sitting here with a guy I don’t really know in a bikini is weird and I’m cold. Do you have some sweats I can borrow? I see you every Monday and Wednesday and I promise I’ll give them back.” I told her no I wasn’t comfortable with that. She asked if I at least had a blanket. I found one in my roommates spare room but it was really small and said I was sorry it’s the best I could do. She fell asleep on the couch and i went to bed. My older sister came to pick me up for breakfast and she saw the girl sleeping on the couch and asked why a half naked girl is sleeping under a baby blanket. In the car I told her what happened and she basically got so mad at me saying I had about 30 opportunities to be a really decent guy and I blew it. She said it sounds like the girl was trying to do the right thing by her friend and I could have let her use sweats, I could have let her sleep in my bed while I took the couch, I could have said that she should go home and I’d drive Sydney home…but basically I was an asshole because I left an apparently nice girl in a vulnerable position and I didn’t even care. She said that I need to grow up if I want to have friends and have some empathy if I ever want girls to like me. She has no idea if that girl was into me or not but I missed a great “practice round” of treating someone in a nice way that they may reciprocate. When we got back to my house my roommate, Sydney and the girl were gone. There was a sticky note on my door that said “thank you for letting me stay here, sorry it was weird. Please say hello sometime. -Nat” my sister said this was even more proof that I acted like an “anti-social weirdo” and she was just being nice and the reason I have never had a girlfriend is the way I acted last night.
