Got in a rut with dinner and getting sick of the same meals. Any suggestions for easy midweek dinners?
we just keep repeating the same meals, spaghetti Bolognese, chilli and rice, cottage pies, fajitas, pasta bakes and on the most tired days, oven stuff we call beige tea. we were getting a lot of takeaways but between health and money we are cutting down on that massively to once a month. I'm a good cook, I can bash out a Sunday roast no problem, I can follow a complicated recipe with good results. I can bake nice cakes and I enjoy feeding people good food, my husband is a decent cook too but tend to stick to his tried and true meals. I can't repeat meals too often or I get sick of them but I'm lost for ideas and struggle with fatigue which doesn't help. submitted by /u/Lunatic-Labrador to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Ideas Please, Easy Vegetarian Meals For Meat-Eaters
Ideas for vegetarian meals that have enough substance for a family that usually eats meat, or a meal where meat can be added on the side..just don't want to make 2 separate meals after work. Long version: My son and his girlfriend are staying with us for spring break this week. So far we have done breakfast for dinner and ordered pizza. Cooking for a second date and completely overwhelmed. Need easy but impressive ideas
Got a second date with someone I really like. First date went great and she basically hinted she'd love to try my cooking so I invited her over for dinner this weekend. Now I'm freaking out. I'm not a bad cook but I'm not like good good. I can follow a recipe but I don't have any fancy dishes up my sleeve. Need something that looks like I tried but won't leave me stressing in the kitchen the whole time she's here. My friend just suggested I buy something and plate it like I made it. Honestly considering it lol. But also feel like that could backfire terribly if she asks for the recipe or something. Pasta feels safe but is that too boring? Chicken feels plain. Seafood scares me because I'll definitely mess it up. Anyone have a go to recipe that looks impressive but is secretly easy? Something I can prep a little ahead so I'm not stuck cooking while she sits there watching me. submitted by /u/Loud-Yogurtcloset390 to r/DinnerIdeas [link] [comments]

Dinner ideas for 14 year olds?
I'm 14, and I've been cooking for my family once or twice a week for about a year, and recently I've had a ton of trouble finding new ideas. We can't have pork, and I prefer not to make meat in general. I would also rather it be easy, but I have the week off, so it doesn't have to be. I'm already making enchiladas, so nothing like that. submitted by /u/Various-Complex-6643 to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

Hit me with your easy dinner ideas
Hey dudes, Monday nights have turned exclusively into “We’re having pasta and a side” because I have to get my oldest home from school, fed, changed, and back out the door for activities. Pasta is easy to make at lunchtime and toss in the fridge for reheating at dinner and never gets and complaints. I want to branch out more, I enjoy cooking, but the kids are getting into a picky phase. I’ve been stuck in a rut of making the same 5 or 6 meals for weeks on end. What’s everyone else who’s rushing kids around to evening events doing for dinner time these days? Who has some solid, kid friendly, Slow cooker or one-pot meal ideas? Google is letting me down with a bunch of variations of max and cheese, chili, or chili PLUS Mac and cheese. submitted by /u/kilimanjaro10 to r/daddit [link] [comments]

Easy dinner ideas that kids will actually eat without a fight?
I’m a mom in my early 30s with two kids under 7, and I’m officially burned out on making dinner every night. I like cooking, but I’m stuck in that phase where everything I make is either “too weird,” “too spicy,” or suddenly unacceptable even though they ate it last week. I try to cook real meals and not rely on nuggets or boxed stuff all the time, but I’m running out of ideas that feel doable on a weeknight and don’t turn into a negotiation. What are your go-to dinners that your kids reliably eat, even on tired days? Bonus points if it’s something that doesn’t take a ton of prep or can be adjusted for adults without making a separate meal. I’m open to simple recipes, lazy shortcuts, or even just realistic expectations at this point. submitted by /u/beckyboo600 to r/Parenting [link] [comments]

Super easy gluten-free Christmas dessert ideas?
Hi GF friends! I’ve just found out that I need to bring a gluten-free dessert to Christmas dinner. My Coworkers wife thought we were having an affair because I made him and their kids dinner and it's changed how I look at myself.
Names and minor details changed for privacy, obviously. Several months ago my coworker(44M) Matt's wife Mary(39F) had to go back to her home country to deal with her mother's declining health and later the funeral and estate stuff. They knew she'd be gone for a while, but didn't know how long exactly. Matt was left with their 3 kids, 4, 8 and 12 and pretty much started struggling immediately. We work full time, 10+ hours a day, and he went from being part of a partnership to essentially being a single parent overnight. Mary works at the same job, but in a higher position in another area. He handled most of it fine, but shopping and making dinner gave him a lot of trouble. He could handle breakfast, the church/day camps/schools handled lunch, but he was struggling with dinner and finding time to get all the shopping done between picking kids up, getting them home or to extra curriculars, etc. I (25F) felt bad for the guy, so I made a deal with him. I worked for a catering company pre-COVID, so I have a very easy time cooking a lot of food at once and I usually do that for myself. I'll make one big batch of food and have it every day for my lunch, or my dinner, or whatever. I told Matt that if he paid for my groceries and gas on top of his I'd do the shopping and cook their dinners for the week. At some point the 12 year old asked if he could watch me make dinner, and then if he could help, so I started teaching him the basics (which, tbh, I kind of think he should have already known. But whatever) and he posted pictures of it all online. I started taking him shopping with me so he could help pick things out, and he started packing everyone's lunches. It was cute. Apparently his mom saw pictures of it, and in some it featured me talking to his dad and she got the wrong impression. She messaged me on social media, 'confronting me' about the affair. I was pretty pissed, but I kept my cool. I asked her if he'd ever been unfaithful before, and she said no. I asked if she'd ever suspected him before, and she again said no. I asked if she really thought he was stupid enough to bring his affair partner home to meet his children and to let his own son post pictures of it all online. Again, no. I even offered to let her look at my phone when she got home from her trip. At about that point I think she realized how ridiculous the idea was, and she called me over facebook and started crying and apologizing. I told her it was all okay, promised not to tell her husband and all that, but I still see her at work now that she's home again and it's always super, super awkward. I generally chalked it up to her being stressed to the gills and on edge, but ever since then I've been extremely paranoid about my behavior and how I'm coming off to other people. I really do not want to come off as someone who would help a man cheat on his wife while she's burying her mother. So now I've wound up double thinking almost everything I say, how often I offer to help people, how much help I give, how I come off if I ask for help, what it means if I agree to hang out with someone outside of work and how their families might view it. All of it. It really sucks because I genuinely just wanted to make things easier on them. I can't even vent to anyone IRL because almost everyone I know works for the same company and would instantly recognize who I was talking about. submitted by /u/ChannelDapper8871 to r/TrueOffMyChest [link] [comments]

My wife bought me Dark Souls… and I’ve been lying to her ever since.
Two weeks ago, it was my birthday. I woke up in the morning and found my wife making breakfast. The moment she turned around, I knew something was up. She’s never been good at hiding her emotions or lying. Her eyes were sparkling, and she was smiling from ear to ear. She gave me a big warm hug, then immediately ran to the hallway closet. She pulled out something blue, and I instantly knew, it had to be a PS4 game. I know her too well, and I knew she wouldn't be able to wait. She had to give me the gift first thing in the morning. Honestly, I was surprised she hadn’t told me about it earlier. She walked up to me with her hands behind her back, grinning even harder than before. She looked like she was about to burst with excitement… and then boom right in front of my face lands Dark Souls Trilogy. I started panicking a little on the inside, because… well, I had already platinumed all the Dark Souls games years ago. But then I remembered all the times I’d casually complained to her about how modern games are too easy, lacking real challenge. She knows I like challenging games, even though she barely plays anything herself just The Sims, really. I suddenly felt this wave of guilt. I imagined her googling something like “hardest games in the world” just to find the perfect gift for me. I tried to act surprised and asked, “What kind of game is this?” She proudly lifted her chin and told me it was the hardest game in the world and that even I wouldn’t be able to beat it. After that came some playful flirting and a lovely day together… but I knew what was coming. That evening after dinner at a restaurant, we got home and she sat on the couch, just staring at the game she’d bought like an excited little kid. I told her we’d play together after I took a shower. I went first, then her. While she was in the shower, I made a new PSN account and started installing Dark Souls 1. I decided to pick a build I had never used before, to make it at least somewhat believable and so she wouldn’t catch on that I had played it before. I played like a total noob or at least I tried to. Every time I died, she laughed, and I pretended to be frustrated. It took me like an hour to even get to Firelink Shrine… but seeing her having fun, seeing that beautiful smile that was the real gift. The best one. And that’s how it’s been for the past two weeks. Every evening, we find 2 hours to sit down and play Dark Souls together. Yes, she plays too. We take turns after every death. She even started watching lore videos on YouTube and learning how builds work. Sometimes, she brings up build ideas over dinner like, “Hey, what if we switch our weapon for better scaling?” But now… I feel like the biggest jerk and manipulator in the world. I love our gaming sessions, but I still haven’t told her the truth. We’re both adults, and I know she could handle it but I enjoy this time together so much. I don’t want to ruin it. I don’t want to break this little thing we both clearly love. I just needed to get this off my chest. I’d really appreciate any advice. And yeah… I know. I’m kind of a huge asshole. submitted by /u/Roko122 to r/offmychest [link] [comments]

AITA for letting my kids disturb my husband during an important work meeting, after he said he would handle them for a day to prove how easy my job is?
I'm 31F and my husband is 36M. We have two boys, a 5yr old and a 7yr old. My husband works in an office and he has the option to work a few days a week from home, but he prefers not to because he says it's easier to focus in the office. I run a small business from home. I don't have a lot of daily work, just some emails and planning (maybe 3 hours a day?) but the business does make about a third of our household income. But my younger son is home all day and just dealing with him takes a lot of energy. He's really high energy and will probably wreck something if you leave him alone for an hour. And then the older one comes home at 3 and both of them are with me until 8 or 9, which is when my husband usually comes home. A few days ago, I was really tired and I didn't make dinner. When my husband came home I asked him if we could just order something. He was also tired and we were both short tempered so we ended up snapping at each other. He said I should have at least ordered before he got home and he was hungry, I said I forgot and it's not fair that food is always my problem. He said that I'm home all day and I even admit I don't have much work to do, so I'm basically a SAHM and should at least take care of dinner. I said he has no idea how much I do everyday, and he said he'd handle the kids for an entire day while also working from home just to prove it should be easy for me. I said sure, so he made the arrangements to work from home yesterday. I slept in, and when I woke up he was already frazzled from getting the older one ready for school. He ended up having to cancel a meeting to make breakfast, and was worried about that. Then when he took another meeting later on, the boys went out to play in the yard and got super muddy and left footprints all over the house. which he then had to mop, and I didn't help at all. By this point I did feel sort of guilty because it was definitely harder for him to take care of work at the same time, but all I wanted was an apology. He said he was doing this to show that I do nothing all day, and if he just admitted he was wrong I would have helped out straight away. Later on he had another meeting, and he told the boys not to bother him for an hour. But about 20 mins in, they got in an argument about something and our younger one went into my husband's room to complain. He was really loud and my husband's video was also on, then he told the kid to leave him alone but he was upset and crying and wasn't listening. After a few mins my husband went back to the meeting and apologized to the other people. when it was finished, he was really angry at me. he said I could see what was happening and I just watched him struggle without helping. I said all you had to say was please help, he said I shouldn't be so petty and prideful. This probably made him look a bit stupid in front of his manager, but it was only a few minutes and I don't think It was the huge deal he made it out to be. submitted by /u/ClearCoffee7140 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

What is your go-to ACTUALLY easy dinner?
I understand everyone has their own idea of what would be considered “easy”. I’m talking something that takes 5-10 minutes to put together, with a cook time less than an hour. For my family, this has consistently (realistically) been a frozen entree like chicken patties or Cordon Bleu with a pre-packaged side like Knor pasta/rice or canned veggies. Occasionally we will default on Hamburger Helpers and skillet dinners as well. I’m trying to steer us away from that stuff, but some nights no one wants to cook, so if anyone has super easy recipes for those kind of nights I’d really appreciate it! Also, a couple of us are picky eaters so I will try to take whatever suggestions you may have and tweak it a bit. Thanks in advanced! Edit: I just want to thank everyone once again for the enormous amount of helpful responses that have flooded in, my phone has been blowing up for hours! I started to take notes, but had to stop for the night and will come back tomorrow. You guys are all awesome, thanks for sharing! submitted by /u/Septemily to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]

Need ideas for delicious dinners that can feed 50-60 people?
I work at an organization that helps provide meals to the homeless in our community and this week one of our donors can't bring dinner so I volunteered. We serve usually 50-60 people a night and I need ideas for tasty and filling meals. I am avoiding pasta because 95% of our donations are pasta dishes and quite frankly our clients are sick of eating pasta and meatballs. My only limitations are that I am cooking in a smaller house kitchen, not an industrial kitchen so I will probably have to cook food in batches. The food will also be made in the morning and refrigerated and needs to be able to be reheated later that night. No fish or shellfish due to allergies. And the food should also be relatively tasty and with some veggies, these people deserve to have a delicious and warm meal. A few ideas I have had: Morrocan chicken thighs with couscous or rice, chicken and veggie stew with rice, chicken and dumplings, dirty rice with chicken. Any help would really be appreciated!! Thank you. EDIT: Thank you all so much for the amazing replies and the awards!!! I’ve tried to read through them all and all of your recipes sound delicious and I will definitely try to make if I cook again. I’ve definitely taken a lot of your suggestions just to cook at home for me. For this week I think I’m going to go with all the wonderful suggestions to do a really hearty chicken stew with loads of vegetables and serve it with rice! I’ll update again with photos and let you all know how it goes. Thank you all again! submitted by /u/letsunionize to r/Cooking [link] [comments]

My favorite cheap, easy, and reheatable lunch/dinner idea that yields a ton!
• 1 can black beans • 1 can Rotel tomatoes • 1 can corn • 1 pound turkey meat (what I use) or beef. could easily omit for vegetarian meals • 1 pack taco seasoning or DIY spices like I do! favorite toppings: avocado, sour cream, cheese, lime I love this because as a single gal, I can freeze it and it can feed me for a long time. If you freeze it, simply thaw in the sink and put back on the stove eye for a few. It could also feed a couple for a few nights or even a family. There’s a million things you can do with this mix: -make stuffed peppers. Hollow a bell pepper, fill with mix, top with cheese if desired, pop in the oven. -make quesadillas -fill flour or corn tortillas -my personal fav: just in a bowl with tortilla chips! best thing is, this is easily under $10! Edit: you guys are making great suggestions in the comments! I have so many new ideas now :) submitted by /u/kris2277 to r/EatCheapAndHealthy [link] [comments]
