How do I get an ethernet cable here?
Me and my girlfriend are moving into our apartment tomorrow, and we don’t know how to get my PC wired. What is the best way to go about this? It is a rental apartment so I cannot do major damage or anything crazy unfortunately. I’ve thought about running a flat cable and running across the “area causing issues” and then putting a rug over it, but I heard that can cause damage on top of flat cables being not very good. What ethernet cable should I get.
I have not experience with ethernet but I will need to lay a cable from my router to my PC. I have looked online can I can see different types cat6 and cat6a or 24awg and 26awg. I am looking to lay a 20m cable through my attic. My WIFI is 350Mbs (Might be wrong could be 350MBs). I live in New Zealand and the options I see are https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CABDNX0680/Dynamix-PLW-C6A-20-Cat6-RJ45-Patch-Lead---20m---Wh?qr=GShopping&gad_campaignid=20272601957 https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CABALG00096/Alogic-C6-20-Blue-Cat6-Ethernet-Cable---20m---Blue https://www.rapalloav.co.nz/product/22-8m-cat6-patch-cable/?currency=NZD https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CAB8WR0212/8Ware-PL6A-20BLK-Cat6A-UTP-Snagless-Ethernet-Cable?qr=product_option https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CABCXT894200/Cruxtec-Cat6A-Ultra-Slim-Ethernet-Cable---20m---Bl?qr=product_option These are the one I could find if you could please help me find the correct one for my use. I don't care if it is longer than 20m I can just tuck the rest of it in the attic. I would like it to be pre-terminated (end pieces attached). I also see a shielded one and I will be running it next to power cables that lead to a outlet for 3 meters twice. submitted by /u/Realistic_Command955 to r/HomeNetworking [link] [comments]

Remember not all ethernet cables are created equal
I've been chasing inconsistent speeds for weeks after moving my server to its new cupboard home. No matter what I did, I was stuck at a max speed of about 90 Mbps down / 55 Mbps up. I finally checked the cabling. Even though the sleeve was printed with "Cat6," it turned out to be Copper Coated Aluminium I swapped it for a high-quality solid copper Cat6 cable, and the difference is night and day. For the price of one decent cable, my speeds increased 9-fold. submitted by /u/Zumodoki to r/homelab [link] [comments]

Is any ethernet cable reliable?
Recently started looking into a potential ethernet cable purchase, note that it's mostly gonna be used by my PS5. I saw everyone saying something called cat6a is fine and mostly standard, but I got recommended a cheaper one called cat8, it's on sale right now and is cheaper than the cat6a options. Should I go for this or just buy a cat6a? I really don't understand the differences so any help is appreciated. submitted by /u/GiveMeLEMONSSS to r/HomeNetworking [link] [comments]

If you are using wifi as connectivity, make sure you use the 5Ghz band, dont use 2.4GHz. Also, have u considered using an Ethernet connection? You can buy the adapter with RJ45 on Amazon or AliExpress, and use that in conjunction with an Ethernet cable, which will also speed up your internet. Firesticks are limited to 100mbps with Ethernet, though.

Am I the only one terrified to run Ethernet cable in their house?
Just wondering if I’m the only one and I’m overreacting or if others feel like me. My house was built in the US in 1958. Obviously there’s no Ethernet. I don’t have any coax or RJ-11 cables. I have two levels, as well as a finished basement and an unfinished and hard-to-access attic. The walls are a combination of plaster/lathe and drywall. The few times I’ve tried to do drywall work I’ve done a terrible job, and I can’t think of any way to put cabling in without damaging a ton of drywall. I’m afraid if I drill a hole into a sill plate or something I shouldn’t I’ll damage the structure of my house. And I simply can’t afford to have someone come to run cabling. I’m asking to see if others feel the same as me, or if others did and figured out a way past it, or if I am correct in feeling over my head and accept it? submitted by /u/GreenDavidA to r/HomeNetworking [link] [comments]

What brands do you guys trust to buy Ethernet cables from?
Hi, today I just found out about CCA vs Copper, etcetra. And i bought a bunch of cheap ass ethernet cables for future use and stuff (ie patch cables) and I found out that they are CCA. However, I look around on this subreddit and its always recommendations like Belden, Monowire, etc.But i live in a South East Asian country that dont have access to those goods and most of the recommendations are 'buy from Amazon' but its basically only Shopee and Lazada here as an equivalent. There are Schneider cables, but they are very few and far in between and most common sellers here are Vention and UGREEN, and I was only lucky to find Dintek and a few HIKVISION stuff but thats about it. There are also 'industrial ones' like AMPCOM but they're China based and I couldn't find anything about it here other than people pulling assumptions. submitted by /u/Southern_Broccoli_58 to r/HomeNetworking [link] [comments]

Nearby lighting strike blew the lan guard off my motherboard through the Ethernet cable
Just like it says a lighting storm came through was the loudest thing I’ve ever heard and didn’t think anything of it until I turned my computer on and found out that the internet connection was dead. Confirmed I had internet through my phone and started the usual procedures of restarting things and checking things off the list tried new Ethernet cables and all. My pc doesn’t have WiFi so I couldn’t check that way. Checked all the drivers and everything appeared to be fine minus no internet. Dig a little deeper and found a little chip setting on top on my graphics card that said LanGaurd on it look on the motherboard board and the spot where it goes is burned. I’m assuming the surge traveled through my Ethernet cable and this little thing saved the rest of the pc bc it all appears to be working except internet. I’m not sure if having the power supply cable hooked to an ups saved my pc but my motherboard will now need replacing. 😞 submitted by /u/feliciafoxpaws to r/pcmasterrace [link] [comments]

Recommend me a good ethernet cable
Hello! Can anyone recommend a good Ethernet cable from Shopee? I'm planning to purchase a fairly long one (around 15-20m) for my backup Wi-Fi connection. Our ISP suggests a speed of 35 Mbps but in actuality our connection peaks at 20-25 Mbps. It operates on a 2G connection as well. Would a Cat5e suffice, or should I opt for a Cat6 cable? I also intend to connect it to my laptop, so if you have any recommendations for a USB 3.0 to RJ45 adapter, I would greatly appreciate it! Since it's my first time buying one, please let me know if there's anything else I should consider. Thank you! submitted by /u/depressed_na_itlog to r/InternetPH [link] [comments]
