Target’s new fast fashion strategy
One thing this economy needs is jobs and Target does that for the communities its hovered in. I get it. At the same time, it’s one corporation the community protested against once it started adopting its anti DEI policies, and thus led to horrible sales numbers. Win, right? Now the CEO has come up with a new strategy to stay afloat: more fashion rotated every 4-6 weeks, amongst other ideas submitted by /u/MamaPajamas24 to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

Aritzia Is Becoming Fast Fashion - Here's Proof
I feel like people need to talk more about how Aritzia’s quality has been going downhill, because this is ridiculous. I bought the “Dayna” faux leather jacket by Wilfred Free for $248 + tax, expecting it to last. I barely wore it — honestly, it spent more time hanging in my closet than on my body — and yet after less than 3 years, it’s basically trash. Here’s what’s wrong with it: • The zipper never worked properly from the beginning. It constantly caught and wouldn’t glide smoothly or do up at all. • The faux leather is peeling off in multiple places, even where there’s almost no friction. • One of the snaps on the belt loop has ripped off, showing how cheap the construction actually is. For a jacket that’s advertised as a quality piece, this is unacceptable. What makes it worse is that I have faux leather jackets from H&M and Zara — both cost less than half of what I paid — and they’re in way better shape despite being worn a lot more. Aritzia is charging premium prices for what honestly feels like fast-fashion quality. If this is the longevity of a $300 jacket, people deserve to know before spending their money. Do better, Aritzia. submitted by /u/wickedsyd to r/Aritzia [link] [comments]

Fast fashion has really distorted our reality
A friend of mine was surprised when i told her that a custom-made button-up with a blend of cotton and bamboo is 180 aud, made by a tailor! And when i said that its important to me to pay people that make our clothes a living wage she said i respect your vision. I know she was trying to be kind but wtf? When did we decide that paying ppl a living wage is a vision and not a normal expectation??? Fast fashion has really distorted our reality.. My mum is a seamstress in a developing country which may have been the reason why this statement disturbed me so much. the buttonup was tailored in Bosnia, no matter where it was made its important to pay a living wage. submitted by /u/Puzzleheaded_Dig2410 to r/AusFemaleFashion [link] [comments]

the fast fashion epidemic in this subreddit is out of control
does anyone else feel like there is just nothing but amazon corsets, shein bat-sleeve dresses, and temu accessories all over this sub? I come here to get inspiration from unique and interesting people and all I see is copy and paste, fast fashion crap. I feel like I work really hard to thrift my wardrobe, putting in so many collective hours over the years going through charity shops, ebay and vinted to find good pieces ethically. I often just feel like “what’s the point when seemingly even alternative people don’t give a shit about the planet or human rights?” is this bothering anyone else? should we be downvoting this stuff? commenting to spread awareness and educate? or just ignoring it? I’m starting to think I should just only get my fashion inspiration from old books and magazines now. submitted by /u/ManicPixiRiotGrrrl to r/GothFashion [link] [comments]

Is it bad to buy fast fashion if you wear the clothes for a long time?
So I love to buy maxi dresses from Shein. They're obviously not top quality but they're cute and hold up after many washes and I've never paid more than 15€ for one. I have had some for about 4-5 years and even wore them during my two pregnancies. They're still in very good shape and I don't plan on getting rid of them soon. Is it still bad to buy from Shein? I want to become better at being sustainable and buying things consciously. Edit: Just want to add that I'm currently on a weight loss journey (22 pounds down and about 40 to go) and I plan on buying better quality more expensive stuff when I can be sure it will still fit me in a couple of years. Unfortunately, weight has always been an issue for me and I've worn different clothing sizes throughout the last decade so it was never really possible to buy for life. But I'm working on myself and will definitely work on it. Thanks everyone! submitted by /u/Thick_Health_9678 to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

The Hypocrisy of the “Don’t Buy Fast Fashion” Movement
I’ve noticed a growing trend among English speakers pushing the idea that people shouldn’t buy from fast fashion brands, and I want to break down why this mindset often falls into the “not like other girls” category. The main argument seems to be that purchasing from brands labeled as fast fashion automatically means you’re participating in fast fashion. But that’s just not true. Fast fashion isn’t about where you buy from—it’s about how you consume. If you buy from SHEIN and wear those clothes for 10 years, that’s literally the opposite of fast fashion. Another common claim is that shopping from these brands “enables modern slavery.” While unethical labor practices are a serious issue, this argument lacks consistency. Nearly everything we consume—clothing, skincare, electronics—has ties to exploitative labor in some form. Yet, these same critics continue buying beauty products, iPhones, and name-brand clothes without the same moral outrage. And let’s be real—targeting only Chinese brands like SHEIN or Temu while ignoring similar practices in Western corporations is straight-up racist. At the end of the day, shaming women for shopping where it’s affordable is just classist. Acting morally superior because you can afford “ethical” brands is peak “not like other girls” behavior. If I missed any points, I’ll edit later, but yeah—this whole discourse is exhausting. Edit: "In the context you mentioned, it seems like this teenager is trying to justify the group’s hypocrisy. That is, even if their criticism is selective and inconsistent, they believe they are still “doing good” by only attacking fast fashion factories. But this misses the point of their argument: if you really want to combat labor exploitation, you have to be coherent and attack the entire system, not just the parts that suit your narrative. This is a weak attempt to dodge criticism, because the point is not “oh, we can’t be perfect, so let’s just focus on what we’ve achieved.” The point is that they are applying their criticism selectively and with an obvious racial/geopolitical bias, which delegitimizes their argument." -my sociology teacher. submitted by /u/Keshafan369 to r/notliketheothergirls [link] [comments]

Buying fast fashion is embarrassing and should be publicly condemned
I've grown up going to thrift stores and continue to shop exclusively secondhand as an adult. I just can't wrap my head around sites like Shien or Temu. Yes the prices are affordable, at what cost? You're getting items that are low quality and someone's getting underpaid for it. Even going to a mall and buying new clothes is wasteful and overpriced as it's the same low level of quality. It feels so rewarding finally finding something that's good quality and appealing while thrifting. We as a society want instant gratification or to fit in with trends. It's wasteful and despicable to take part in it. I feel instant disgust when I compliment another girl on her outfit only for her to say it's from Shien... Edit: Thank you everyone for your input submitted by

Fast Fashion isn't bad.
This is going to be more of a rant but whatever. I think that fast fashion is fine, I love Shein, it's cheap, decent quality, but ofc it has it's bad side. Just like every single brand they take advantage of the working class. Adidas, H&M, even walmart. It's not just clothes either, if you have a phone, house, furniture, or jewelry, it's all made by people working unethical hours. Fast food is the same way, company's with billions of dollars paying people barley anything. Unless you have no technology, making your own food, every single ingredient is homemade, you built your own house, made your own clothes, you're using products made by people that are getting paid basically nothing. idk it just annoys me that someone using a phone is telling me that fast fashion is bad. I can't afford a 100 dollar hand made hoodie from cotton farmed from some Etsy shops backyard. submitted by /u/JustSimplyHere to r/unpopularopinion [link] [comments]

What is fast fashion? Can it realistically be avoided?
I live in the Midwest in America. Not rural, but definitely not New York or LA. I do not trust the thrift stores in my area to sell clean-ish clothes and our Plato’s Closet type places mainly sell outdated early 2000’s low rider jeans and tube tops. Not really my style. So in the quest for sustainable living, Ive been reading about fast fashion. I’ve never bought from Shein or anything, but most of my clothes are coming from mall stores. American Eagle, Aerie, Gap, Old Navy, etc. Then I read an article that says all of those are fast fashion. So…where exactly do I shop if I want to avoid that? I’m pretty much done purchasing at this point, but I’d love to keep some stores in mind for the future, should I need something in the future. What online/brick and mortar stores aren’t fast fashion? I feel like EVERYTHING is fast fashion now. Outside of thrifting, what options are there? I mean, I feel like the criteria basically means everything is fast fashion. I bought some vans the other day and they were on the list I looked at this morning. Same with Birkenstocks, AE, Gap, J Crew, etc etc. I can’t imagine any major retailer NOT being fast fashion. And if that’s the case, then what’s the point of trying to avoid it? Unless it’s online, fast fashion is all I have access to in person. ETA: wow! This really opened up a great dialogue about what fast fashion is and how to avoid it!! I just think I had a bit of panic, because the google wormhole made me feel like there’s no way around it. I think this line sums up how I’ll be looking at my choices going forward: “Fast fashion worn slowly”. Buy well made items, take care of them, and wear them for as long as possible. And go thrifting. submitted by /u/gonzothegreatz to r/femalefashionadvice [link] [comments]

Is fast fashion really fast fashion if you get years of use out of the garments?
Over the last year, I’ve gotten much more interested in sustainable & ethical clothing and have immersed myself in researching these topics. Questions like: is _____ ethical? Is _____ sustainable? Where can I buy affordable but ethical clothing? Plague my google search history. As a 24 year old who is finally making a decent salary but has been primarily a fast fashion consumer up until a year or so ago, I want to do and be better. But a point I’ve seen made many times while reading countless articles about clothing manufacturing ethics and sustainability is that by definition, fast fashion is bad because it’s not made to last and is made for mass consumption. Trendy pieces and cheaply made pieces made to last maybe a season or two. So where does that leave the consumer who has a closet full of items purchased at fast fashion retailers, but rarely makes new purchases and many of their current pieces have remained in their closet for years? Obviously the issue is layered and nuanced. Sure maybe I have a fast fashion t shirt that cost me $3 that I’ve gotten three years of wear out of, but obviously a $3 shirt wasn’t made sustainably or ethically. But is there a point where the trade off of ethics and sustainability becomes worth it? Is the “fast fashion” buyer who makes new purchases maybe a few times a year and keeps that clothing for years better or worse than the “mid range” clothing buyer who buys clothing monthly (or maybe even more?) and gets fewer uses out of each article of clothing? This topic bothers me because I feel like there’s no good choice unless you have $$$ to spend on the few brands that are sustainable and ethical. Is Aritzia or J Crew that much better than Forever 21 or Fashion Nova? Is the clothing quality that much better that it warrants a 300%+ price increase? Are their ethics/sustainability practices better? Even luxury and designer brands have questionable histories, like Chanel. It’s just so frustrating! I feel like in the last year or two in particular there has been a sharp uptick in clothing “boutiques” and online only clothing stores which just muddy the waters further & make the shopping process that much more confusing for the average consumer. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this matter! This has been bugging me for forever and no one IRL I know wants to have this conversation. ETA: I just want to include that for the time being I’ve decided to predominantly buy secondhand and have been buying clothes through Vinted pretty much exclusively for the last year, until I can find other options I am comfortable with :) submitted by /u/therealkrisjenner to r/femalefashionadvice [link] [comments]
