Help with extremely dry flower bed under bay window
Sorry no idea which flair to use for this post. The soil is extremely hard and dry. I have planted a clematis to the left of the bed to hopefully climb up the wall, it seems to be happy so far and is growing quite fast. There is a hydrangea already planted, no flowers yet, I don’t know if the soil is too dry for it? I also sowed some wild flowers seeds but compared to the ones I put in pots they also seem to be struggling to grow, any suggestions? submitted by /u/NoAppointment8679 to r/GardeningUK [link] [comments]

Ideas for a nearly unusable flower bed?
I'm hoping to get some ideas on what to do with this bed. It's at the admissions office for the university I work at and I just cannot get anything to grow well, if at all. Every school tour starts and ends here as well as all of the families coming in for registration so I really want to do something nice with the area. West facing, so sun is not a problem. However, the overhang restricts nearly every single drop of rain hitting it, meaning it has to be hand watered heavily, daily. I've fertilized the soil, added compost, removed everything and started with fresh soil, fertilized and removed again. The morning after a huge storm with nearly sideways rain a few days ago, I checked it and the soil was bone dry and dusty. No moisture whatsoever. I don't want to waste any more plants in the bed so it's gotta change. I'm considering changing it to a rock bed and putting together some potted arrangements to give it some color. Totally open to about anything and everything at this point. If it matters at all, the school colors are purple and white with yellow as the accent. submitted by /u/gRainbird to r/gardening [link] [comments]

Hi…I am at a loss of how my house could ever possibly be pretty.
This property and interior of my home is my dream, but the front exterior just…makes me sad. I want a FRONT door, you know? We are renovating the inside and we will HAVE to drywall in the upstairs left window (it’s a small walk-in closet and it’s such a waste of wall space that would double our closet. Also, don’t want a window overlooking the front of my house where I CHANGE 😆) Do I have any hope?! I’m open to any creative ideas. That front left stone block on the bottom is a flower bed. THANK YOU! Seriously. I’ve tried so many times to design this. submitted by /u/Key-Ad1065 to r/ExteriorDesign [link] [comments]

I think I’m falling in love with my husband
I am NOT OOP, OOP is u/throwaway_2433 Originally posted to r/TrueOffMyChest I think I’m falling in love with my husband Editor's note: added paragraph breaks for ease of readability Mood Spoilers: super sweet! Original Post: December 21, 2025 (Post got removed the first time so I’m reposting it 😭) My husband and I are 24. We’ve been very close friends since we were 14 and have been married for about five months now. The thing is, our marriage was strictly out of convenience. I was a single mom to a 1 year old (his father and I haven’t been together since I was three months pregnant) and my husband had just taken guardianship of his cousin who’s only a few months younger than my son. Since the kids are so close in age, we decided pretty much immediately to introduce them to each other. They’ve been best little friends ever since and after that my son and I were over at their house everyday. The marriage was purely my idea. My son and I were practically living at their house and we had already had a conversation about raising the kids together. I figured why not? We’d get the tax benefits, could combine our incomes, and have the kids grow up in a two-parent household. I did think about the chance that one of us could find someone else down the line and fuck everything up, but it wasn’t high on my radar. I gave up on relationships after my son’s father and my husband wasn’t really the type for relationships before we got married. I’ve never even really seen him express interest in someone before since I’ve known him. We’ve always had a running joke with our friends that he’d be the single uncle that one of our kids would have to take care of when he gets old. Clearly we didn’t think he’d become an adoptive father but that’s besides the point 😭 Anyways, I brought it up to him kind of as a joke one night (I was terrified to be serious about it idk why) and then we were married three weeks later. Everything happened so fast and it’s still insane to me because I fully expected him to call me stupid for even coming up with the idea. Did not expect him to agree and follow through so quickly. But that’s the long ass backstory on everything so everyone understands. The first few weeks of our marriage felt no different than what we were doing. The only real difference was my son and I moved in and were living with them. As of right now, we live in a three bedroom apartment. Babies share a room and my husband and I share a room. It was definitely weird sleeping in the same bed every night but we both got used to it eventually. After maybe the first month, I got too used to it and started completely sleeping through my alarms. I don’t know why, but I’ve started sleeping so heavily that I have to be physically woken up. So every morning when my alarms go off and wake up my husband, he rolls over, rubs my back, and whispers in my ear to wake me up. For background, my husband is a pretty prickly person. He doesn’t like physical contact with other people. In our entire ten years of being friends, we hugged ONCE. So this??? Literally rewrites my brain chemistry every morning. Like what the fuck. Even typing this out right now I’m genuinely getting butterflies and it’s so weird??? I probably sound so stupid but that’s not it. Around the same time, he started bringing me home flowers every Friday night. I was majorly confused the first time, but he said he’s trying to set a good example for what relationships should look like for the kids. (He grew up with a single mom and never met his dad, so he didn’t necessarily have a good example himself.) Even though he’s using it to set an example, it genuinely makes me so fucking happy every Friday. I literally look forward to getting home from work and seeing what bouquet he got this time. I’m not sure exactly what I’m feeling, if I’m just over romanticizing the situation and looking too much into things, but the past couple weeks I’ve been feeling like a child with a crush. He makes me blush just from LOOKING at me 😭 I’ve never felt that way about anyone before. Now I’m feeling ultra stupid because what if I catch feelings and he doesn’t, then I’m just in a one sided marriage. I’m also scared that I’m feeling this way because I’ve never been treated right before in my past relationships. Like am I falling in love with him or the feeling of being treated how I should be? I don’t know and I’m so confused. I think I’m screwed. EDIT: Thank you so much for all of the advice! Redditors have made me realize in a few short hours that I am in fact in love with my own husband lmao. His birthday is on Christmas, so I’m thinking of doing something special to just show my appreciation for him first. Nothing crazy like one comment suggested 👀 Hopefully I’ll have an update for you all soon! And hopefully it’s what you all want lol. Relevant Comments Commenter 1: … he isn’t going to bring flowers home weekly if he doesn’t have feelings. Talk to him, not Reddit! OOP: I don’t even know how to approach the topic. I also need to sort through my feelings first make sure it’s real before I say anything. I’m terrified of jumping the gun on this. Commenter 2: The plot of so many romance novels. OOP: No shit that’s exactly what one of our friends said at our courthouse ceremony. I rolled my eyes at the time but now I’m letting that feed my delusions Commenter 3: 👀 girl what do you wear to bed?? Let’s start plott… I mean planning 🙂‍↕️. OOP: LMFAOOO nooo omg. I wear sweats and his old t shirts to bed 😭. Commenter 4: Girl you wear HIS shirts to bed. That’s your man. Also there’s a spare room. If he didn’t want to share a room with you he wouldn’t. OOP: The third bedroom is his home office. His job has remote and in office days so it’s a nonnegotiable Commenter 5: I’ve seen many people have an office setup in their bedroom during college and Covid. Maybe it a non-negotiable because he likes sharing a bedroom with his wife. My motto with men is “if he wanted to, he would.” and he totally is. Translation: If he didn’t want to share a room with you he wouldn’t be. He’d find a way, but he’s choosing to share a room with you. He’s sharing a room with you, because he wants to. OOP: People keep saying this and it’s starting to make sense. I slept on our couch the first few days until my husband came out at 2 am and brought me to bed. I didn’t want to make him uncomfortable in any way but he was really insistent on it being a non issue Commenter 6: He moved you into his home. Into his bed. You don't HAVE to even really live in the same house to be legally married. Perhaps he's not great at communicating feelings but no way a man that didn't at least have true fondness for you would start this whole thing. Take it slow, be cautious of limerence OOP: I mean yes, we don’t have to live under the same roof to be legally married, but it’s for tax reasons and our kids. Easier to raise them together under the same roof OOP on the courthouse ceremony OOP: We did a courthouse ceremony and it’s really easy getting the paperwork for it. We started the process a few days after I suggested it and had to wait about two weeks for everything to go through. That’s why it seems so fast 😂   Update: December 26, 2025 [UPDATE] I think I’m falling in love with my husband Hi everyone! I want to thank you all for your input and well wishes. It helped me come to my senses quicker than I would’ve on my own. I appreciate every single one of you and I hope this update gives you all some peace of mind. I did end up taking some of your advice and planned a nice gesture for my husband yesterday. My goal in mind wasn’t to confess to him (because I still wanted to wait on that) but to just show how much I appreciate him for everything he does for our family. The original plan was to offer a back massage after we put the kids to bed. I bought some candles, massage oil, and even a cute little pajama set to wear. (IDK where my mind was at with that. I was deep into fantasy land LOL 😂) The point was to make it relaxing, but also set a kind of romantic mood? Well, it didn’t happen. My husband completely uprooted my plans that morning. Up until now, we’ve been wearing some cheap and super simple wedding bands that weren’t anything special. But for Christmas, he gifted me a whole set. Wedding band AND engagement ring. And he didn’t just hand it to me wrapped, he actually got down on one knee. When I tell you I CRIED! I thought I was hallucinating and I still feel like I am!!! Every single one of you were right. This was never a marriage of convenience to him. He’s been in love with me since we were in high school and just never thought to tell me even after we were already married. We had a lot of long conversations after the initial confession. (I will be sparing details because I didn’t expect it to turn out this way and I’d like it to remain a private moment between us) At the end of the day, we’re still trying to raise two toddlers and have agreed that they will always be our primary focus, but we are going to give a real relationship a shot. I will admit, it’s kind of scary, but I do think that this is the next step towards healing after my last relationship. I feel truly loved by my husband. I think that this is where I’m meant to be. My husband didn’t get me anything for Christmas
Just need to get this out there as I don’t feel I have anyone that I can talk to about this tonight As the title reads, my husband didn’t get me a thing for Christmas. We are young. We’re both 28. We’ve been married for a little over a year. We’ve been together since freshman year of college, our ten years of being together just passed. I think what upsets me the most is I’m the one that got everything else together. I bought the gifts. I bought the gifts for his parents, his siblings, my parents, my brother, and everyone else in between. I made the cookies. I wrapped every single gift. I put up the lights, the tree, the decor. The only thing he really helped with was helping me carry the tree from the garage. Two days ago he sits me down and says he has something really bad to tell me. He says that he doesn’t have anything for me for Christmas. He says he had all these ideas that made him really excited but he didn’t act on any of them and now it’s too late. He says that he went to the mall earlier that day and almost bought something really expensive, but didn’t. It’s not about the gifts. It’s really not. I think it’s the lack of effort that gets me. For my birthday, he knew I was wanting to go to a concert that I couldn’t get tickets for. On the day of my birthday he pulled up stubhub and said he’s going to take me to the concert, but would like to wait to a closer date to get the tickets. The day rolls around, he forgot about it till I reminded him the night before. Guess what? We didn’t go. Our first anniversary was this October. Didn’t get flowers. Didn’t get a card. Nothing. We both have good jobs and work hard. We are dual income no kids. Our rent is cheap and we honestly don’t have many bills or any debt. (I know we are so very blessed for that, we worked hard to get here). Yes he is busy at work but he literally does nothing outside of work. He’ll come home, maybe do some dishes and then focuses on watching sports, fantasy football and all the such. I never in our relationship perpetuated me doing everything like I did for this Christmas. When we got home from family festivities today I quietly told him “I know it’s not about the gifts but I can’t believe you didn’t get me anything. I actually think it’s worse that you went to the mall knowing you had nothing under the tree for me, but couldn’t find one thing that made you think of me” he basically followed it up with the excuse that he asked me what I wanted five times but I couldn’t give him any ideas. (Which is partially true, I am not the easiest to shop for.. but if that’s his defense he didn’t give me any ideas on what to get him either). Then he got angry at me and said I can’t do what I want but he’s still going to have a good night. Now I’m silently crying in bed and he’s watching football on the couch. I feel like a brat writing all of this because it really isn’t about the gifts but for some reason this has made me so so so sad. And yes there are a handful of gifts from me to him under the tree. submitted by /u/llpppoppppopppop to r/TrueOffMyChest [link] [comments]

Beautiful flower bed was actually done by my tenant.
A while ago, she discussed with me that one of the shrubs in the flower bed had died and asked if she could remove it. We agreed, but she went ahead and pulled out all the shrubs… She really doesn’t hesitate to spend money, but when it comes to paying rent, the dragging and delays really give me a headache. Now I finally know where all her money goes When she first moved in, she spent over $3K on the flower bed without even saying anything. I only found out because I got a warning letter from the HOA. Inside the house, she painted the walls at her own expense and added a partition door to create an office. In the backyard, she poured a small concrete pad for her outdoor hot tub. submitted by /u/Similar-Run-7323 to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

Y'all. Who knew a simple hoe would be the answer to my prayers
Sharing in case anyone else needs to know about this. This amazing little scuffle hoe is the answer I didn't know I needed. I was dreading all the weed pulling I thought I was going to have to do to clear my flower beds. While googling an easy way to remove weeds, I saw some people mentioning a scuffle hoe. I had no idea what that was, so I looked it up. I knew I had remembered seeing one of these in our garage when we moved into our house a few years ago, but never knew what it was. I almost threw it out once even! Now that I know, I am a loyal devotee to the scuffle hoe. It removes weeds cleanly and effortlessly in a fraction of the time it would've taken to pull them by hand. I'm about to be hoeing all over the place y'all. submitted by /u/slowlymysunlight to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

My MIL landscaped our entire garden while dog sitting for a week - what do I do?
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/Tragic-Mushroom My MIL landscaped our entire garden while dog sitting for a week - what do I do? Originally posted to r/TwoHotTakes Thanks to u/queenlegolas for suggesting this BoRU TRIGGER WARNING: Destruction of property Original Post June 21, 2025 My husband (35m) and I (29f) went on holiday for a week and just got back tonight. My in laws stayed at our house and looked after our dog for us while we were away. We got back tonight to find that MIL has completely changed our garden without our consent while we’ve been gone. We have a small-ish paved garden with some raised flower beds, a couple of trees and some nice flowers and bushes, most were left by previous owners and we’ve cared for them the best we can, weeded, laid wood chip and kept the garden tidy. While we’ve been away, an entire tree on the right hand side has been removed and is now just a stump, with new shrubs and flowers planted in its place. My roses, which I enjoyed caring for, have been cut to a stump with nothing left, the trellis completely bare. The two other trees have been cut back dramatically, all their flowers and buds are gone, the huge flowers on one bush have been cut off, and the garden feels very exposed and barren. The tree that was cut to a stump flowered beautifully in summer and attracted lots of butterflies, and I’m big on biodiversity so that was so sad, and the roses I’m devastated about as my uncle was helping me care for them. Various other jobs have been done like cutting a small patch of grass we have at the back, and jet washing the paving slabs, which I’m grateful for. It’s important to note, nothing like this was discussed before we left, we only asked MIL and FIL to care for our dog, nothing more. MIL mentioned patching some missing sealant on the windows of our shed for us, that was all. I really struggle with anxiety and needing to be in control and I’ve been sobbing this evening, I’m devastated. MIL is asleep and FIL is staying out of it, I’m sleeping downstairs with our dog because I can’t stand to be away from her either. It’s 3am but I can’t sleep. What do I do? Am I right to be upset? I’m certain their intentions were good, but I feel like this is an enormous overstep and I’m really upset. RELEVANT COMMENTS MaryK007 Who has the audacity to do this? Did your husband know what was happening? OOP He had no idea, he was as blindsided as I was. I can’t quite believe it. They’re very caring people so I know this wasn’t done maliciously but it’s crazy to me… ~ Remarkable-Rent-3007 Oh yes. I know the pain. Mine watched my 11 month old while I was giving birth to his little sister. She gave him milk and peanut butter for the first time without asking-but she did clean my house 🙄 this was after a time she switched my kitchen around on me when she was staying with us. It’s all because “they know best” but in reality it’s an insane overstep of boundaries and almost like they are marking their territory. We don’t talk anymore and it’s sad it came to that. OOP I’m so sorry that happened! Yes that’s how it feels sometimes, I could never do it to someone else so it’s hard to rationalise. And when it goes hand in hand with doing something actually thoughtful and nice like changing our bed and doing our washing (which she also did) I feel like it’s harder to stand your ground on the thing that upset you. Update June 22, 2025 Thank you to everyone who left comments on my original post, it was really helpful to see everyone acknowledging that this was an overstep and suggesting that my husband lead on the conversation. To answer some questions, I think the tree was a Buddleia which I think is usually a bush but it was quite mature and had a trunk about 8 inches wide and was around 2/3 meters tall and very much looked like a tree, sorry if I gave the impression it was like a huge tree that required a tree surgeon but it wasn’t a tiny bush either it was still a task to chop it down, and they didn’t hire anyone they did it themselves. Thank you for all the suggestions about tree law, I’ve learned something new! Thank you to all that said the roses might be salvageable, they are literally a stump only 3 inches tall but I’ll try the blood and bone mixture to promote growth and try to bring them back. MIL has done things like this before but not to this extreme, she gets bored and one thing leads to another and you can tell part of her knows she’s gone too far but she tries to justify it anyway. It’s well known in the family that MIL can’t sit still and finds jobs to do to be “helpful” but to my knowledge she hasn’t done anything this big before. Now for the update. In the morning my husband spoke to MIL alone and laid out how this was really inappropriate for her to make changes to our garden without permission or even notification. He said she offered some explanations as to why she did it, but did acknowledge it wasn’t right to go ahead and cut down trees without asking. He posed the question many of you suggested of how would she feel if we looked after her home and repainted a room, or chopped a tree down in her garden, or removed a fence? I think that made her realise. He asked her to speak to me directly and apologise as I said to him I needed an apology and for her to acknowledge that what she did was wrong. Later MIL spoke to me privately and said she was “sorry I was so upset by the garden” and I said thank you. Her explanation for the tree is that she was doing some pruning (didn’t ask her to but anyway…) and when she trimmed the branches they were black inside. They went to a garden centre and got advice and were told it was this kind of bug infestation? MIL is adamant she was being bitten by whatever bug it is as well. I don’t know, the tree was green and healthy looking to me. Anyway at no point did they speak to us despite going to all this trouble, then they decided to just chop it down since it was “infested”. She did at least say the words “I know we should have called you or asked”. Then I said “and the roses? I loved those and my uncle was helping me keep them going” and she said the dog had been chewing on them - bear in mind these are in a raised bed she’d have to jump up at to get to, and apparently she yelped and hurt herself on the thorns. So obviously the logical conclusion isn’t to keep an eye on the puppy (a 4m old lab) but to chop down the flowering roses… That was the end of that discussion but later in the day she and FIL went to a garden centre to try to replace both the Buddleia and the roses but couldn’t find the right kind. They have said that if we find the plants we want they will buy them for us so we can replace them. Things are civil again, I’m still hurt and I hate how my garden looks, especially since other trees and flowering bushes were cut so far back all the colour is gone. It feels very exposed and like a new build/show room garden before any character is added, but I can’t make the plants regrow and replanting the tree would mean removing the stump they left so I cba. Personally I will never allow MIL and FIL to be alone in my house again, and they will not be asked to look after our dog unless it’s at their own home. I do have a generally good relationship with both MIL and FIL and they are generous and kind people, but this lack of respecting boundaries has been an ongoing issue especially since we got our house, which they did a huge amount of work on with us and for which I’m extremely grateful. I do however feel like this contributes to how they view the house and garden as a project and not as our home despite the fact we have lived in the finished house for 2 years now, and might be why they thought it was no big deal to go around messing with our garden. My husband has been on my side throughout this and took us all (me, him and the dog) out for a Sunday roast today to cheer us up. He’s upset with his parents as well and has done his best to make me feel better and validate my feelings. He’s the best. RELEVANT COMMENTS lezemt I feel like she needs to find the roses that you had, and a sapling of the tree and buy them for you. There’s no reason it should be on you and your husband to hunt down your roses and send them to her to buy. It’s her fault, she should be the one doing the searching Booze4Blood Right?!?!?!!! Like my response to OP that I ended up deleting was really harsh towards her cause I'm like.. girl you're still letting them walk all over you😂 she accepted the MILs non-apology and let that woman lie in her face about the plants being diseased AND she's letting them get away with not doing anything to really compensate for their behavior because she's still gonna do all of the damn work. Like, I don't think her boundaries are gonna hold for too long when this is what she's willing to accept OOP Tbf I get you, I probably do sound like a doormat. I just value my peace and I’d rather quietly resolve to never leave them alone in my home again than to have a big drawn out argument that other family members hear about etc. The acknowledgement that she should have called us was more than I thought we’d get tbh. It’ll do for now but it was a wake up call for sure. OOP responds to a long comment if her MIL has ADHD Thank you for your insightful comment, I’m sorry to hear your journey was a complicated one. Everyone in the family is certain MIL has undiagnosed ADHD and we have raised it to her multiple times, sincerely and sometimes jokingly, but she won’t entertain it. She has a fairly old fashioned view on mental health and neurodivergence so I don’t think she will ever recognise it in herself. This is why I say I don’t think she is acting maliciously, just without understanding or recognition for how it might affect others. I’m not a professional so I don’t feel right giving her an armchair diagnosis in a Reddit post, which is why I tried to explain it as she can’t sit still, but yes it’s most likely ADHD. Both my husband and I suspect we may be neurodivergent as well and I have been professionally assessed for autism but not diagnosed, so I do appreciate the mental whiplash that realisation can bring. I hope you’re doing well now :) THIS IS A REPOST SUB - I AM NOT THE OOP DO NOT CONTACT THE OOP's OR COMMENT ON LINKED POSTS, REMEMBER - RULE 7 submitted by /u/Direct-Caterpillar77 to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

My first vintage Japanese blouse (50s)
Pattern: 刺繍のモダンな若向きセーター (embroidered modern sweater for young people) in the book 洋裁編物春のスタイルブック (dressmaking and knitwear style book) from Showa 27 (1952). Yarn: Irish Heather from Donegal Yarns. Knitting machine: Toyota KS901 main bed with a KR505 ribber bed. My most recent finished knit. This is the first vintage Japanese pattern that I managed to complete and I’m so happy with the final result! I used machine knitting for the body, hand knitting for the collar and crochet for most of the finishing. The original pattern is for hand knitting. The construction is as follows: The blouse is knit bottom up starting with K2 KP rib, with a dolman sweater construction, where the sleeve shaping is done by means of increases, casting on and at the top by binding off stitches. Rather than using intarsia, the front and back are both knit in two separate pieces which are then seamed afterwards (so 4 seams in total for the body). To prevent curling of the stockinette stitch fabric the side stitches are knit in garter stitch for both the sleeves as well at the neck opening. The collar is knit separately as two strips of garter stitch which are then seamed together and then onto the neck. A cord is then made (didn’t read the instructions) and then sewn onto the bottom of the collar. A button closure is also made (didn’t read the instructions) and finally a flower motif is embroidered. My modifications: I knit this on the machine and during my first attempt I tried adding the garter stitch edges, but after finishing the back I realised that switching those few needles back and forth from the main to the ribber bed, 4x’ed the time I spent on the machine. I decided to start over and swap the edges with single crochet. The original pattern had an 80 cm (32 inch) bust circumference, but I graded it to a 90 cm (36 inches) just to see if I could do it. I widened the body, kept the neck hole the same width, lengthened the sleeves and that did the trick. It has a bit of a loose fit on me which I enjoy, but it also looks really nice at 0 ease on my mannequin whose bust I adjusted to 90 cm. I picked up stitches to knit the garter stitch by hand, but after the first fitting found that the collar was loose and was almost crossing at the front. This last thing was caused because of the shape of the neck hole as the collar was coming out at an angle. I ripped it out and made sure to decrease stitches as I went, to keep the collar straight. I finished it using single crochet. For the cord around the neck I used an i-cord as I liked how it looked (no idea what the pattern suggested) and for the buttons I just crochet some buttons and stuffed it with scrap yarn and crocheted a cord (chain and then slip stitches). In the future I would like to buy some buttons molds and try those out. I tried out the embroidery that was suggested on one side, but I think I need to practice that skill more. I also just liked this cleaner look a bit more (plus it saved me a lot of time lol). Lastly, I knit both yarns at the same pitch, but I think the brown came out a bit larger so I think I should have knit that one at a slightly tighter tension. I think that’s about it. My experience: This was super fun to make! I had some difficulties with the finishing techniques -- I’d like to gain some more experience here, so if anyone has suggestions on literature to pick up: I’m all ears 😊 I haven’t gone through the entire book to check for the mention of the designer’s name so I’m not sure if I can share this pattern, keeping Japanese copyright law in mind. The name next to the model is hers 久我美子さん (Yoshiko Kuga -- a famous actress) I did take a picture of the first section so one can get an idea of how these patterns look. If anyone is interested in these types of old patterns, I’d highly recommend you make sure you have: a) experience knitting 40s 50s patterns b) experience knitting modern Japanese patterns c) an intermediate to advanced level of Japanese language skill I’d say these skills are absolutely necessary. Old Japanese patterns look nothing like the modern ones -- they have even less information. Aside from that, archaic language is used with characters that aren’t in use today (or at least not in the way they were), so Google can’t always help. You’ll need to search the web for old Japanese knitting manuals to figure out techniques that are referenced. If you have any questions about vintage patterns, Japanese patterns I’d be happy to answer them as always 😊. submitted by /u/SejiFields to r/knitting [link] [comments]

So sick of being made to feel like I’m running a hotel.
I live in the center of a major city and am lucky enough to own a house with a “guest room”. Normally, I’m pretty happy to have houseguests, but the past 10 days have been over-the-top. Four different guests, all of whom asked if I could put them up (i.e. I hadn’t invited them myself). Change of bedding each time, three meals a day for some of them, use of washing machine, beer, wine, etc, etc. Not a single one of them arrived with even so much as a jar of jam. When I mentioned to one that I thought we’d order in some food one night, she said, “Great! My treat!” And sat beside me while I I looked thru DoorDash. I asked her to choose what she wanted first, so I could be sure not to order something more expensive. But it didn’t matter, because she didn’t pay. Never even mentioned it again. Nobody leaves a bottle of wine, or flowers, or anything. At first I thought this was maybe some generational thing, but one of my guests (the DoorDash one) is 65! What the hell. I’m really ready to just say “no.” ETA: a bit of clarification. These guests were all either friends or family. I don’t welcome strangers, so don’t get any funny ideas! And if you’re about to comment that 1) I am a doormat and/or 2) no is a complete sentence, please don’t bother. After hearing both several dozen times, I got the message. Really I did. Otherwise, thanks for commenting! submitted by /u/checktheindex to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

I gave flowers to my husband today and his reaction made me realize I might be a bad wife.
Recently, my friends made fun of me (35F) saying that my husband (32M) is the romantic one of our relationship. And aparently he wins by a big margin in that department. They even scoffed at the idea that I could be romantic at all. This made me start to be self conscious about it as one of my friends went on detail how much more romantic he is compared to all my friends husbands and how I am the total oposite. This has been on my mind all week, and today, a male coworker was talking about how his wife gave him flowers and how he was surprisingly happy about it, so I thought "well, why not? He buys me flowers all the time, I should start being more romantic." After work I went to pick up a bouquet and headed home. When I arrived he was playing with our daughter (5yo) and I gave him the bouquet and said "I was thinking about you and got you this" He started crying, he cried so so much. He thanked me and hugged me and then went look for a vase to put the flowers. Throughout the night he cried randomly 2 separate times. I asked him if anything else happened for him to be that way and he said no, that he was just happy that I got him flowers and was feeling a bit emotional. And I'm here thinking, am I a terrible wife? He gets me flowers all the time and I never get emotional like that. Not even close. Now I'm thinking back and I don't do nearly as much for him compared to what he does for me in every way, and my friends are 100% right, romantically he kicks my ass. I just feel absolutely terrible because I love him more than anything. He is my world and I could not even think of myself without him. He is an amaizing husband, an even better father and mostly, he is my best friend. But I guess I don't show him how much I appreciate him and he doesn't know how much I love him and that makes me so sad. And then that makes me feel even worse because I'm thinking of myself instead of him. Now I'm here in bed, I can't sleep thinking about this, I dont know if I should talk to him about it or if I should just quietly try to be better and show him how much I appreciate him. submitted by /u/ThrowRAbadwi to r/TrueOffMyChest [link] [comments]

I'm going to leave my fiancé for my boyfriend
I am not OOP. OOP is u/Low_Field_2895. She posted in r/TrueOffMyChest. I found the dates of the updates by using unddit and the wayback machine. Your daily fun fact to prevent spoilers on mobile: u/RachMeliss requested axolotls. Axolotls can regenerate limbs and tails like their fellow amphibians, but they also can regenerate their jaws, spinal cords, skin, ovary and lung tissue, and even portions of their hearts and brains! Their courtship ritual includes dancing. Trigger Warning: mention of possible non-consensual kinks/rough sex Mood Spoiler: Good for OOP Original Post: January 19, 2023 6 months ago my (f25) fiancé (m28) asked if i would be willing to have and open relationship. I agreed. Everything was ok until like 3 months ago when he asked if we could switch from open to poli. I agreed again. He started dating a girl from work and i started dating a guy from my gym. Now this guy (m26) is soooo different then my fiancé. He takes me on dates every week, he brings me flowers and food at work. He texts me just to say hi. He's sweet and affectionate. My fiancé however…. We've been together for 4 years. He only gets me flowers for my birthday. He's never affectionate. His idea of a date is playing board games or watching The Witcher. They are very different in bed too. With my fiancé most of the times sex is a chore. He's fast and rough and then he goes to watch tv. My boyfriend however is very tender, he takes his time and he checks if I'm enjoying it, he cuddles with me after and brings me snacks. I was talking to my mom about this and she asked me which one makes me happier and i guess it clicked. I like the way my boyfriend treats me while my fiancé is more of a roommate at this point. After my talk with my mom i decided to talk to my fiancé as well. I just told him that i wish he would be more affectionate with me. He just shrugged and said he isn't into "chick flick". So i guess I'm going to break up with my fiancé because i don't want to marry a man that never takes me out or buy me flowers or holds my hand. I want someone that shows their emotions. I don't know if me and my boyfriend are going to work out since it's still new but at least now i know i have options. I grew up around men that were emotionally unavailable and most women in my family constantly told that men aren't affectionate so i guess i kinda believed it. My first 2 boyfriends were like this as well. They didn't like showing affection and my fiancé is the 3rd guy I've been with. It feels good to know not all men are like my mom made me think they were. I'm on my way to have dinner with my fiancé and I'm going to call of the engagement. Relevant Comments: Did your boyfriend know about your fiancé? "He knew from the start. The break up is not actually because of the new guy is because i don't feel loved and appreciated by my fiancé and this won't change bc that's how he's always been. Even if it doesn't work with my boyfriend i now know that not all men are emotionally unavailable like i was always told. I only agreed to open the relationship because of how lonely and unloved i felt." Are you going to stay poly or go back to monogomy? "Mono. I only agreed to poly/open because my fiancé was unavailable and i felt lonely" Is your boyfriend ok with that? "He said he is but we only had a quick text exchange. We're meeting tomorrow and we'll talk more about our relationship then." People are rude and criticize her reasons for leaving, (per reddit usual): "I'M DUMPING MY FIANCÉ BECAUSE HE'S ABSOLUTELY UNAVAILABLE! I SEE HIM 3H A DAY. THE ONLY TIME WE TALK IS WHEN HE CAN'T FIND SOMETHING. HE NEVER TAKES OUT. ONLY BUYS ME FLOWERS FOR MY BIRTHDAY. HE NEVER AS MUCH AS HOLDS MY HAND. WE NEVER CUDDLE. LAST TIME WE HUGGED WAS 2 YEARS AGO AT A FUNERAL. HE CALLS ME BY MY FULL FIRST NAME. NOT EVEN A NICKNAME. LAST TIME HE TOLD ME HE LOVED ME WAS WHEN HE ASKED ME TO MARRY HIM-1YEAR AGO! What's so hard to understand? I don't even know how many times i said he's emotionally unavailable. THAT'S WHY I'M LEAVING HIM! My boyfriend just showed me that i can find someone that treats me better." Update 1: Late January 19/Early January 20 i was super nervous to have the talk with my fiancé but apparently at dinner it wasn't just us. He invited his parents and didn't tell me. I wanted to have the conversation with him privately but his mom started talking about the wedding, she had a bunch of flower arrangements, dresses and venues printed out and she was going to buy a dress tomorrow. I got overwhelmed and ended up telling them the wedding is off. I tried to be as gentle as i could but my fiancé freaked out when i gave my reasons (that i don't feel loved and that i want someone that shows their affection) and made a scene so we were kicked out. He left to go home like 10 min ago. I'm still in the parking lot with his parents. They are trying to call him. I'm going to drive them home and then i guess i have to get ready for round 2 when i get home. Update 2: January 20 we had a huge fight and he confessed he only wanted to open the relationship because he wanted to sleep with his coworker without being a cheater and then wanted a poly relationship because he developed feelings for her. And he called me bitch for dumping him because "I'm a big baby who needs attention". Apparently I need to grow up because "real men" don't get emotional. Update 3: January 20 my now ex fiancé called and begged me to come home to talk because he's sorry and he didn't mean what he said. And because "real men don't get emotional" he started crying when i no and that he can call his girlfriend if he wants to talk to someone. Update 4: Later on January 20 i talked with my bf and we're going to close the relationship, he was thinking about it for a while but was afraid to ask so he was happy when i suggested it -my bf helped me move all my things out of the apartment i shared with my ex ex has called and texted me all night and i blocked him bc honestly it kinda scared me -exs gf came to see me at work, she was worried i ended things because of her, we talked a bit and I assured her it wasn't because of her. We also talked about my ex and he's lack of showing emotions and she now reconsidering their relationship because she also wants someone to show their love and she was thinking he didn't because it was still new and she thought in time he'll get more comfortable but after we talked she wasn't so sure anymore. A lot of people keep saying my bf will turn into my ex. Why? Why do you think that? Do you have magical powers to see the future? And if he does? So what? I should stay in a relationship where i don't feel loved just bc my next relationship will not work? Like i said in my post and in the comments. Even if it doesn't work at least now i know i have options. I also had a few people asking if my ex was always like this or if he changed. He was always like this. My wife cheating on our 10 year anniversary
Tl;Dr yesterday was our 10 year anniversary. Brought flowers to wifes office. Found some guy nuzzling her neck and her giggling. Yup. Tl;Dr says it all. My (35m) wife (35f) and I were married ten years ago yesterday. She has been working on a big project for the last few months. The last 4 weeks or so she has been putting in extra time, staying late going in early, to finish up by deadline. This is a career maker for her. I work construction. With the rain we have had we have crazy hours trying to make up time that we missed. So I work 12 hrs on the days its nice, sometimes a little longer. If its raining when I get up I dont go in. Somedays we get sent home when it starts, too dangerous. I usually hit the gym for an hour or two. Thursday we started at 6am ,midmorning starts to rain hard. We go home. I go to the gym as usual. I cut the workout short and head downtown to see wife Mehgan, to give her flowers and make plans for dinner that night if possible. We really havent seen much of each other this week. I went to bed about 9pm she wasnt home, called earlier me she is working late. Not unusual for past month. I stopped and got some flowers and went into her building about 12:30. Nichole was at the receptionist desk. I told her I got here later than I wanted could she put the flowers on Mehgans desk. She said "I dont think they went to lunch yet why not drop them off yourself?" She buzzed the door to get back to the offices. The place was deserted. I went to her office, the door was closed . I always walk in unless the receptionist tells me she is in a meeting. I walk in some guy is standing behind her nuzzling her neck, she is reaching back over his head. She is giggling only as she can. Saying"we got to get this done". I am gut punched. I slammed the flowers down said "Happy Anniversary" and walked out. I didnt hear what she said just went past Nichole said goodbye and left. Made it to elevators and out the building then my phone started ringing. I balled my eyes out all the way home. Went into garage pulled my camping gear out of the rafters and took off. I drove about 2 hours to a State Park. I had no idea what to do . I just had to run. I hiked a trail we have been on in the past about a 3 hour hike. I dont drink much so I had no booze, I just sat there thinking. Looking back I am glad I was in a rush, normally I bring a 45cal. With me camping, we have black bears, which generally scare off, but get aggressive if hungary or cubs around. The way I was feeling I might have ate the barrel that night. My phone was blowing up fom Mehgan so I had turned it off. I left the park to get reception turned it on to see my good friend called. I called him back. He said Meghan called him to check on me, make sure I didnt do anything stupid. We talked a bit, told him I got to think this thru, would catch up on Friday. So while I am thinking about this, I go over our marriage from the beginning to see what I missed. We come from completely opposite backgrounds. My Grandfather raised me with my mom. He taught me about life. He had a little saying about everyhing. He told me marriage would be the hardest job ZI ever had, you had to work on it everyday. God I miss him. We did not have much, heard mom and grandpa having many discussions about bills. They worked hard and my brother and I did not miss out on anything we knew of. Mehgan was born into money. Not overly rich but very comfortable. Went to a great college, always great clothes, new car etc. And she is beautiful 11/10 beautiful. I would joke with her if she coughed about the silver spoon getting stuck in her throat. We met hit off started dating. I was dumbfounded how such a woman would ever be with me. We dated quite awhile before she told me about her parents and life style. Our friends called us the model couple, because they thought we were so good looking we had to be models. Families were not as kind, afraid of the differences economically would come into play. Her dad and I started to get along but her my mom took some convincing. She graduates gets her first job, we plan on getting married. We work out between us that we would expose each other to our lives that we live. I took her white water rafting, she took me to the symphony, we went ziplining, we went to an art opening etc. We agreed we had to experience the others interests. She was really enthused about the more physical things we did. I kinda like the symphony and such. I own two tuxes now. I look back and do not see any red flags. Her first two jobs she quit because the men all tried to get in her pants. She was paraded out in front for photo ops. Invited to conferences when other newbies were not. At dinner at a conference a partner tried to get her drunk, then tried to force himself into her room that night. She quit, the next job the same thing, quit again . This 3rd job has women as some of the partners and none of that bs is in her workplace. She seems very happy. We seemed very happy. So now, Friday, I am home. I called her. Asked where she was, back at work. I being in a smartass mood said that the marriage is taking second place to her job. She responded since I would not talk what was she to do? Fair enough. She will be home in an hour. So I wait. I want to save our marriage. If I am lacking in providing then I want to fix it. I want to ask why of course but I can not accept a IDK answer. How do I phrase this? What else should I be asking? I know I will get all emotional and forget everything so over the next few days we will be going over and over this. What she did is wrong but please no degrading comments, she is still my wife. Thank you in advance. submitted by /u/whydoideservethis to r/relationship_advice [link] [comments]
