Hey guys, quick question, anyone got tips for making rectangular acoustic panels?
I have materials to make them, except the foam is "acoustic foam" from B&Q (garden equipment and hardware store, not music store) and I've read that the only material acceptable is rockwool instead. So, should I build these panels and use the b&q acoustic foam anyway, or use them elsewhere and get some rockwool instead? The acoustic foam (I assume is the stuff to go in drywall/under floorboards etc) is about two inches thick so not sure whether I'd need to double them up (the wooden planks are about 7" wide, so would have loads of space between the wall and the foam itself. I intend to then stretch material across the wooden frames and staple them to the back so they look professional. My guess is /u/blutfink will know what to do since he's literally a wizard, but any other advice would be appreciated! Cheers! submitted by /u/Michael_Goodwin to r/studiomonitors [link] [comments]

Will Acoustic Panels help lessen sound entering my rooms?
Hello, I just moved into a new apartment and have been looking to find some way to make my new place quieter from noise outside my place. I have a few noisy neighbors or just thin walls they aren't yelling or anything just that it's easy to hear them along with their washing machine/dryer. I was wondering do acoustic panels help prevent noise from entering as well as getting out? Id probably mainly only be covering the neighboring walls if it helps And if so what kind would be a good choice? I see a bunch on Amazon that are foam in a a protruding pyramid shape and some that are hexagonal or even a few that look like wood panels. Foam for acoustic treatment — as air gap behind the panels?
So we all know foam is a narrow band absorbant, so much so it might actually make your room sound worse if used on its own. I'm treating a small rental room for vocal recording and mix checks with 4" monitors with 4" rockwool panels and due to being a rental, can only hang panels via hooks on the ceiling molding. Now if I just rest the panels along the wall with no air gap, the absorbant thickness is 8". If I add 2" inch thick foam on the back resting on the wall as air gap, the absorbant thickness is 50% greater and should expand the effective frequency attenuation much lower. I'm too dumb to run any acoustic calculations so I'm asking for confirmation that I'm understanding this correctly. Considering this, foam seems like a solid choice for panels that need to lean against something with marginal increase to the material cost. submitted by /u/SS0NI to r/audioengineering [link] [comments]

If I use acoustic panels on the inside of my wall will it block out the outside noise?
I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask or not. I work midnights and the house beside me just sold to a very, and I mean very loud family. Our houses are only separated by their driveway and strips of yard, it’s not close enough to feel like you can touch each others houses out of a window, but it’s closer than most houses in this mid century suburb usually are. The neighbor on the other side isn’t nearly as close. Because of the layout of the room ,other windows, closet doors, and a dresser too large for anywhere but where it’s at,this wall is the only place to put my bed. It’s a ranch so I’m almost right at car level. Man,when I say loud, I mean everything about them. They yell when they are just having what sounds like normal conversation , screaming kids, barking dogs, radio cranked at full blast as they pull past my window, they slam their car doors so hard the picture above my head board literally fell my head when I was sleeping . I think the way the houses are just makes some sort of sound wave amplifier. Im really not mad at them or annoyed. I can’t expect dayshifters to accommodate my nocturnal schedule, I’m a recent empty nester and the sound of kids is still the sound of summer and a good neighborhood, I bet these people are a funny as shit, I love dogs and miss my old girl everyday. They moved in the end of November and it’s been a heIla winter so I haven’t even met them yet. I’m a single female who’s somewhat handy and independent, but building a false wall or adding foam insulation is out of my ability and time. Budget is kinda tight because I’m also remodeling my lower level.I need something I can also do on my ONE day off a week. I desperately need sleep though. Also, I’m normally a lurker and this is my first time making a long post.I’m on mobile and this was way fucking harder than it needed to be. No wonder people always apologize for formatting on mobile .I’m only 45 and I felt like a 90 year old in 2012 using a smart phone for the first time. Acoustic foam all around or spaced?
I know they are said not to be very effective but I already ordered them so they are going up lol. Question is my idea was to place them all around the room starting at about bellybutton up to ceiling. I’ll be making vr content for YouTube and will be moving around and turning. I thought the more coverage the better but I’m hearing conflicting reports now. Should I have them spaced in some way or is my original idea of the full wrap around the top half of the room okay? They are 2 inch foam panels if that makes a difference. Thank you! submitted by /u/ambesiaguy1302 to r/audioengineering [link] [comments]

Acoustic panel placement?
Hi Friends. I have a 25’x25’ space that I’m trying to make sound better. Out of necessity there is little to no furniture in the room. So, the floor space is hardwood with a large rug in the middle. No other furniture is in the room than what you see. I have rockwool acoustic panels and some foam ones too. I already placed some rockwool on the walls the rest is just there to experiment with how much I need. My big question is how many panels do I need spread around the room? Additionally, it has a vaulted ceiling that I hope you can make out in the pic. Should I put some on the ceiling too? On the angled sections and the flat part? Just the flat part? Just the angled parts? Any advice is appreciated. Also, need to upgrade my sub I think. Rotel RA-12 amp, PSB Image T8 speaker towers. submitted by /u/iRoswell to r/audiophile [link] [comments]

Has anyone used moisture barrier carpet foam padding for DIY acoustic panels?
I am really curious if anyone has used this material before for panels. I could try it out before covering with fabric and then swap to rockwool. But since I already have this I figured I would check before trashing it. I have about 200sqft of leftover pink LEGGETT & PLATT premium moisture barrier foam carpet padding that is 1/2" (13mm) thick. Since it's carpet padding, I haven't been able to find any acoustic specs for it. I would think the moisture barrier would reflect a lot of sound so I would need to cut into strips that I would layer on their sides to have the exposed foam facing the fabric opening of DIY panels. I have this leftover pink carpet padding. submitted by /u/xenon2000 to r/audiophile [link] [comments]

Not sure if this is the right sub, will acoustic foam panels stop noise going through my walls?
As title says, I do apologise if this is off topic as I'm not entirely sure if this is the right subreddit for this question but I don't know where else to post it. My room connects directly to my roommate's room, who works night shifts and is asleep during much of the day. I play a lot of games with my friends during the days when I'm not working and my roommate has complained a few times about the noise, and even though I've tried keeping my voice down as best as I can he still says it isn't quiet enough for him to get good sleep sometimes. If I get acoustic foam panels or the like and place them against the shared wall, will it possibly reduce the sound transmission between our rooms? Or can that only be done with proper in wall soundproofing? submitted by /u/glitchii-uwu to r/audioengineering [link] [comments]

How would you model this acoustic foam panel?
I am using blender to plan some sound treatment for my home office and ran into this awesome design. I know I could manually extrude a grid and achieve this effect but I became curious if this could be achieved easier with geometry nodes? Foam Factory for acoustic panels?
Does anyone have experience with thefoamfactory.com and its acoustic panels? Saw a video recently of someone building their booth using some of their acoustic foam and I just wanted to gather a few more opinions. Also, I’m fairly certain 2inch thick is the standard but I’m curious if I should look at 3inch foam as well. I’m trying to avoid “too much” of a dead sound. Herman miller chair, wooden crate, acoustic foam panels
Normally I do raffles but moving today so these are immediate giveaway. Herman Miller aeron chair - Found this on the side of the road a few years ago, wiped it down with sanitized wipes, replaced the cushion under the seat. Works great, left arm is a little wobbly but stays in place when leaning on it and all adjustments work. Tried to open the mechanism to deep clean the inside when I first got it but couldn’t get the bolt off. Figured since I found it for free I should give it away instead of sell it. Would prefer to give this to someone who is going to use it as opposed to a reseller. Wooden crate - about 28” x 28” x 27”, includes a lid, some foam inserts inside, handles on it. When I bought a subwoofer a couple years back it arrived in this. Acoustic foam panels - About 40 or 50 of them maybe? What you see in the picture is what you get. 12” each. Bought them on Amazon in April. I had them up in a Puddletown rehearsal space so now they unfortunately they smell like mildew a little (some of those places have a mildew smell). Might be able to get it out with a wash, I haven’t tried. Pickup in Buckman, any questions let me know. submitted by /u/themadpooper to r/PDXBuyNothing [link] [comments]

I know that decreasing the whine of a CRT is basically a meme, but does anyone have any experience with using acoustic foam like this to decrease it?

3rd birthday of my hometheater. I just put acoustic foam in the ceiling to reduce echo. (ps: its my parents house, so it was the best I could do lol)
