Need a miracle
Hi everyone, A little over 8 months ago, a very special kitten named Ember chose me to be his dad. We met at a friend’s birthday party when he snuck through the gate right behind me. We didn’t even notice him until he tried to jump into a fire pit—luckily, I caught him just in time. He instantly stole my heart with his very first meow. I didn’t know it then, but this little legend would help me take the final steps toward reclaiming my life after a decade-long depression and escaping an abusive relationship. I owe so much to him. Before this weekend, I could honestly say I was the happiest I’ve been in my entire adult life. The spark Ember brought changed everything, and he even led me to finding the best partner I could have ever dreamed of. When I got home from work on Friday, I found Ember hiding and lethargic. There were no warning signs before this. I rushed him to the emergency animal hospital, where they essentially worked to keep him stable until the full specialist staff returned on Monday. Since Friday, he has undergone 6 blood transfusions and several treatments for both infectious and autoimmune diseases. We are now down to our last 24 hours. It is still not entirely clear what is wrong, but the vets believe it is the feline equivalent of Evans syndrome (where the immune system attacks its own blood cells). This wasn’t exactly their words, it’s just my understanding. Sadly, the trauma from this has left Ember blind. Even if he miraculously turns the corner tonight, he will remain blind for the rest of his life. They have tried two aggressive treatments: IVIG (an intensive therapy only documented as successful in 3 cats ever) and vincristine. I received an encouraging call this morning saying Ember was physically looking much better and had even eaten some food. It felt like he was turning the corner. Unfortunately, I was just told that his immune system is still attacking his platelets, meaning the treatments have not worked yet. His platelet levels just dropped from 16 down to 8. We are currently on hour 50 of a 72-hour IVIG treatment window. This final transfusion bag is being administered tonight. We need his immune system to stop attacking his platelets within the next 12 hours. If we don’t see clinical improvement by tomorrow, I am going to have to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go. The vet bill is already approaching $10,000, and it is simply not feasible to continue experimental treatments without knowing exactly what we are fighting. Ember and I need a miracle. Please send whatever prayers, love, and positive energy you have to my sweet boy tonight. I owe so much to him and I want nothing more than to feel him purring on my chest again. ❤️ submitted by /u/AdRepresentative2766 to r/cats [link] [comments]

Got railed after 5 years of celibacy.
Shrimp spring rolls and green tea. Ladies, I have been SO detached from men and dating in general for the past 5 years. Terrible ex and took time to do ALL of the self love and healing needed. Therapy, workouts, nourishing foods ect ect. I was known for being happily single and not ever giving a flying fuck if I ever met or connected with another man again. Hello, gestures vaugley Then he came along. At work. Both single and very much in our own world just doing and living for ourselves. It started with cordial hellos, which turned into small talk, then genuine intrigue. A man actually caught my attention. Calm, considerate, kind. I felt comfortable and completely myself around him. "If they don't add to my peace then they aren't for me" I'd always say. I gave him my number. We talked consistently and had just the most chill, fun, lovely dates. 100% into this man and was actually ready. Clean tests, and when I tell you I was catered to completely and WOW. Flipped every which way. I forgot just how fucking feral I become. We are together now, and when I tell you it was 1000% worth the wait.. 🥵 sure it may be new, but I'll be riding this high (and his glorious dick) with gratitude and pleasure! 🤣🥰😇 Coming out of abuse really fucks you up. When someone feels safe enough to not trigger your nervous system, where you actually want to surrender. Shiiiiit! Never. EVER settle ladies!!! 💚 EDIT: I am over the moon with the amount of love, laughter and support this had brought upon for all of us! Empowered women, empower women. submitted by

My [30F] sister-in-law's [36F] autistic son [8M] broke my glasses, and I don't know how to ask that she pay for them without sounding like a dick
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/KidBrokeMyGlasses My [30F] sister-in-law's [36F] autistic son [8M] broke my glasses, and I don't know how to ask that she pay for them without sounding like a dick. TRIGGER WARNING: Exploitation and ableism Original Post Dec 20, 2015 So a quick backstory: I've been with my husband for four years and I love him dearly. His family can be...interesting. They're really snippy with each other and they fight a lot. My sister-in-law is not always the nicest person, but I think a lot of it is because she has 5 children, she works, and her husband doesn't help her much, so she's always tired. Also, I make less than $30,000 a year and don't have the best health insurance, but I depend on my glasses because my vision is so bad, so I always invest in them. I just got this pair of glasses last month and spend about $400 on them. So the problem: one of my nephews is severely autistic. He is not verbal, he still wears diapers, and he can be prone to fits of rage and frustration. I am not the best with children, either, which compounds the problem with me. However, he has recently been enrolled in a special needs school that seems to be helping him, and I've learned how to understand him somewhat. We are visiting for Christmas, and just last night, the autistic nephew crawled in my lap and started grabbing at my face. This is how he gets people's attention, and you're supposed to hold his shoulders to show you're listening/paying attention. But before I could reach down and grab his shoulders, he yanked my glasses off in his hands and cracked the frames right in half. I mean, he squeezed them in half in his hands, and the bridge snapped. Here's what gets me. I didn't grab his shoulders then because I was so shocked, so he started squealing and get frustrated. And his mother, who had been sitting across from me the entire time watching, asked "What the hell is your problem?" and took him off my lap. I told her my problem was that I couldn't see, and she just grunted "You have an extra pair" and walked away. I know it's totally fair to expect her to pay for the glasses, especially since I need a new pair every year (and my extra pair will work, it's just a degree or two lower than my current one). I cannot afford another $400 pair of glasses now. And I think it's pretty shitty that I'm getting blamed for her kid breaking my stuff. But he is special needs, and she is stretched so thin financially and emotionally, so I have a hard time figuring out how to ask her to pay for them. I'm honestly afraid that if I ask for the money, she'll take it out on my husband, or my husband and I won't be invited back for the holidays. As difficult as his family can be, they are still his family and he loves them (and so do I). So what's the best way to ask without burning all of our bridges? Or should I just suck it up and pay for them myself? tl;dr: Cranky, stretched-thin SIL's autistic nephew broke my new glasses. Not quite sure how to request that she pay for a new pair (or if I even should) without sounding like an asshole. ETA: Fucking hell, RIP my inbox. I'll try to respond! ETA 2: One lens is totally broken, the other is scratched beyond repair. I'm sorry. I should have said that. I don't think I was very clear with my eye doctor when I called because I was in a panic, so I will try calling again. RELEVANT COMMENTS When told her husband should talk to his own sister Huh, maybe. I guess I just figured they're my glasses, so I assumed I should do it. But it is his family. isnt_that_special I agree that your husband should ask. I also have an autistic son (but I would be mortified and would've bought you a new pair of glasses ASAP!) 1) been married almost 10 years and the "your circus, your monkeys" method works great in handling in-law craziness. 2) while I absolutely love my sister in law, hearing that I acted inappropriately would be much easier to take from my brother. OOP This is a good point, thank you. OOP Added in the comments about the SIL I will point out that people do watch her kids, all five of them. I watch them when we're in town sometimes so both parents can go out. SIL has apparently been this cranky and shitty for her entire adult life, even before having children, and I don't agree with the decision to keep having kids not because you want them, but because you just don't want to do birth control, then you get frustrated when you get pregnant again. But they're her choices to make, and I do think she is stretched thin. Update Dec 23, 2015 (3 days later) First I want to thank everybody for their input and their perspectives. You were all very helpful. I want to give a special thank you to the people with children with disabilities who mentioned their own experiences and explained that even though their children have special needs, they as parents are still responsible for what they break, and yes, parents can use their child's disability as a way to shrug off responsibility. I needed to hear that. Thank you. Next I want to explain a little about why I can't just buy glasses online and feel safe, and I hope I don't sound condescending. My better eye is -9.50, my other eye is -14.00, and I have astigmatism. I will probably be legally blind in the one eye within the next decade because it is getting so bad so quickly. In other words, my eyes are almost worthless without correction. I need my glasses to be perfect, so I trust experts to handle the issue for me. There was even a time when they called me and said they had to send the new glasses back because they got them, checked them, and noticed they were off. I drive, cook, handle heavy equipment, and sometimes watch children, so I need my vision to be spot on. I truly appreciate the recommendations for websites, but from my personal experiences and from what experts have told me, it is not a good idea for somebody with eyes like mine. I contacted the eye doctor again this morning and asked about my glasses. They confirmed that I would have to pay for the new lenses, but my frames were under warranty. They'll give me 25% off the lenses I had before and will also order up a second pair in discontinued frames and with more basic lenses (no transition, lower high index level, so on) for emergencies, and I would have the second pair for free. I think that's very generous. Today, my husband spoke to his sister. He told her that Andrew broke my brand new glasses, and because Andrew is her child, she is responsible for the damage, just as she would be if one of the other kids broke a neighbor's window. He said he realized she doesn't really care about my broken glasses and she assumed my older pair is "just as good." He told her that's not how it works, I am blind without them, and I need the most up to date prescription to see properly and not get headaches. SIL said it wasn't her fault because Andrew is autistic, and my husband got upset and told her she can't keep using that excuse every time Andrew breaks something. He also pointed out that we've heard from other parents who said they would pay for any damage their autistic child caused (thanks, Reddit!) and she got super pissed that he'd mentioned it to somebody else. She kept repeating that it wasn't her fault I was "careless," and then she claimed I just don't like her kids and I never help out anyway. That is ridiculous. While I do not live very close to my SIL I help her when I am in town every other month or so. I watch her five children several days a week. That includes her autistic son Andrew, who needs diapers changed, will scream for hours on end, rewatches the same loud part of a movie over and over and over until he's distracted with something else, sometimes has to be coerced under a therapy blanket, and so on. I love him and he clearly loves me. He has even developed a home sign for me, and the other kids call me Noni. I am not asking for a medal or martyrdom, I am simply pointing out that I do try to help her with these kids and I treat them all very well. At that point, my husband was really frustrated and asked my SIL what she thought was fair. SIL said I should buy my own fucking glasses for my stupid eyes (her words) and just take them off when I'm around her kids. I'd already told my husband that I was not okay with this option because it hurts to try and function without my glasses, and because autistic children usually don't like change and Andrew views my glasses as part of my face. He has never seen me without them except for the time he broke them. He also told her the kids will no longer be allowed to sit in my lap, I will have them sit beside me instead when they want read to or want to share a plate of food. My husband repeated that she was responsible, then made her the offer that I had suggested: she could pay for half (so $150 after the 25% discount) and she could do it in installments if that was easier. He told her this was me being generous and that if it were him, he'd require the full amount. SIL said she had the money but didn't want to pay me because I'm a four eyed lying bitch who doesn't need my glasses as much as I say I do, my husband told her tough shit, and now I'm sitting here with an envelope with three fifties in it. We are staying with my mother in law, who came in an hour ago and mentioned that SIL called her in a huff and insisted I'll never be "allowed" to watch her kids again. Husband and I just looked at each other and knew that threat wasn't going to hold firm, and sure enough, husband just got a text asking if we can watch the kids for a few hours on Monday. She's not talking to me and will probably be cold on Christmas, but I get the feeling she'll get over it. TL;DR: Husband talked with his sister and told her she is responsible for the glasses her son broke, offered to have her pay half in installments. She has denied responsibility for her son's behavior and is pissed at me, but has paid half. I will be getting a new pair after Christmas plus a free back-up pair for emergencies. Thank you for your advice. FINAL COMMENTS oh_boisterous Wow. You're seriously doing her the favor of watching her kids after how she treated you? I can't believe she has the balls to talk shit about you, yet still ask for favors. Wow. OOP If I do watch her kids, it will be as a favor to the children and to my MIL. MIL has the kids dumped on her all the time. Most of the kids like being with me because they get to do crafts and read books and I let them play video games for an hour. For now I'm not saying yes. I'm too hurt, to be honest. [deleted] Does she actually expect you to watch her kids after she called you names and said you never help out? I'd recommend not doing anything for her until she apologizes, which in this case will be when pigs start flying. I'm glad you got the money! OOP Apparently, but she asked my husband instead, of course. [deleted] And you two are a team. She can't have her cake and eat it to. If you were my wife, I'd tell the sister to go pound sand. OOP He told her we'd watch the kids when a Christmas miracle made the blind see, including his four eyed lying bitch of a wife. I HAVE LOST EVERYTHING BEHIND MY AUTISTIC CHILD.
Sadly, I don’t know where to start. I have been struggling for many years with my Autistic child 8y/o about to be 9 soon. I also have a 5y/o who isn’t autistic however is acting like my 8y/o each day which makes it even tougher. I have no support whatsoever from his dad or his side of family. No support whatsoever from my Mom side as well it’s like people just decided to simply not help me whatsoever. They just don’t understand. They all live out of state so I’m here ALONE by myself no family, no friends - NOTHING. I’ve lived through smearing of feces for many years Cleaning non-stop repeatedly same mess multiple messes up to 25x per hour (no bs). He doesn’t LISTEN to me AT ALL I have to keep repeating myself constantly !!! HE WILL NOT SIT DOWN WHATSOEVER THE CONSTANT JUMPING, THE CONSTANT BANGING, AND THE CONSTANT EATING - despite me having locks on everything he gets right through them then he will sneak foods upstairs especially maple syrup, a whole bottle of juice and he will poor it all out all over the carpet repeatedly until there is nothing in the refrigerator to eat or drink. (I don’t get food stamps) so I’m having to ask people for help with groceries all the time because as soon as I buy which is spent about $800 a month he waste all of it. Sometimes he will take all the snacks the bread and go to the back yard and pour it all over the grass. 😔 He isn’t potty trained still to this day no matter how I try. He has used the toilet before but he does it when he feels like. Sometimes I wonder if he’s pulling a sick joke on me. Recently he has been climbing the walls in our backyard in hopes of trying to get inside the neighbors pool. He also has been throwing many rocks in the their pool and breaking their tiles in their yard and they have called the police on me three times due to this they als reported me to my property mgt and I was given 10 days to leave my house terminate my lease unless I fix the problem .. Sadly it wasn’t rectified because he doesn’t listen to me and he keeps breaking the locks to the backyard to get out. The constant eloping has sent my nervous system into shatters it’s broken it’s not there I can’t even have normal relationships anymore. He has eloped so many times leaving the door wide open and I’ve woken up to literal law enforcement in my bedroom while sleeping. Also he is up all hours of the day and night HE NEVER EVER SLEEPS EVER he is awake around the clock unless he takes clonidine or melatonin! I get no rest ! I have severe burn out like really severe it was to the point I had to start drinking to try and stay up because I have no rest I cannot even focus on other things like my job, my other child needs I have completely lost myself and my entire identity. I haven’t been able to do anything for myself in so long my feet look like crap and trust me I don’t mean for it to be painted I mean it’s dry and cracking and looks awful. Sometimes I don’t shower the entire week (I’m not smelly) but stilllll not acceptable it’s a lot it’s so much I don’t know how I’m alive right now it’s so hard on me. He has had some therapy ABA, SPEECH, OCCUPATIONAL but that stopped in 2024 due to waitlisted and location He’s been on the waitlist for therapy and school forever now so he has been with me. I work from home but unfortunately got laid off and lost my job while I was out on short term disability due to having major depressive disorder and anxiety disorder. I ended up being backed up on rent after waiting for my disability to be approved for whatever reason they didn’t approve it so I have to appeal with MET LIFE and then I got a random call that my position was eliminated due to reducing staff and I would receive severance in JUNE like this phone call happened in January. I ended up being behind on rent so the eviction process started my central nervous system is so fried I tried to work out something with the property mgt but I felt it wasnt worth it because I owed 11k and then the situation with my neighbor and my son they would have terminated my lease anyways and eventually I was evicted sadly. Being that it’s being reported on my credit it’s so hard to get another place so we have been living in a hotel for the past month it’s so depressing to me because I also have a 5 year old who who is needy and clingy and is going through stuff herself. The other devastating part of all of this is I have been in and out of court with my ex - 5y/o dad who is extremely abusive. Since I’ve put him on child support he has tried to harm me many times which also added to my nervous system breaking down .. this man owes me 80k in funds that I loaned him for a “business investment” and never received a dollar back and then is on me heavily tarnishing my name because I won’t waive 15k of back support .. He ripped me down the ground drag me through the mud abused me in every single way knowing I have two children who needs me! I think everything was taking a huge toll on me and I eventually lost myself drive for life. I am usually very goal oriented and very hard working I will work three jobs if I could, but now that I lost myself, my home, my job my credit is now busted my ex refuses to pay me back my money at all or any of his child support ( mind you he operates a restaurant-lounge business) I’m in a hotel with an autistic child and I’m just scared I don’t want them to take him away from me Idk what to do how to find housing with my credit situation. I have some money saved up but I keep getting denied. I’m trying so hard not to cry each day. Even here at the hotel he’s doing dangerous things that could get me in trouble it’s like this kid doesn’t want me to have anything. submitted by /u/RipMany8893 to r/Autism_Parenting [link] [comments]

AITA for ruining a hibachi dinner?
I (52F) and my husband (49M) have been together for over 20 years. He has been out of work, but I make enough to keep us going. Last week was rough for me at work; I was initially blamed for something my predecessor did. It got straightened out, but there were a lot of meetings, calls, and emails, and I was scared I could lose this job. So Friday night, I just wanted a quiet night at home. My husband wanted to go to his favorite hibachi place. We don’t go out to eat much anymore, but I was so tired. He kept pressing, saying, “all you have to do is sit there and eat.” So I said okay. The hibachi place was loud and crowded, but being just the two of us, we didn’t wait long and were seated with a boisterous group of 6. The chef came out; as he started cooking, he looked at me and asked if I was okay. I nodded and said, “yes, I’m fine, thank you.” He nodded and started bantering with the group of 6. A few minutes later, the chef again asked if I was okay. I assured him, “yep, I’m good.” He then said, “you don’t look like you feel good.” I’ve been told that I have a resting-bitch face, so I tried to smile and said again that I was fine. When the chef turned back to the group of 6, he grinned and then looked at me yet again, and this time said, “are you mad?” I was taken aback and said, “nope.” He mugged at the group of 6, and then to me he said in a comic voice, “are you suuuuure you’re not mad… are you mad at meeeee?” The group of 6 chuckled. One of the women in the group of 6 then said, “oh, don’t worry about her, she’s just…” Here is where I may be the asshole, because I didn’t hear what she actually said after that. There was a burst of noise that, for me, drowned her out. All I know is that after she finished her sentence, the chef and the group had a hearty laugh while looking at me. I was feeling so beat-up from the week, I was mortified to feel myself turning red and tearing up. So I told my husband to box up my food, because I’d be waiting in the car for him. I was getting out of my chair when my husband hissed at me to sit down and stop making a scene. I said, “I’m not going to sit here and be made fun of.” My husband said, “Nobody’s making fun of you! Just eat your dinner.” I ended up sitting through the rest of the meal in the restaurant. The mood at the table turned very sedate. Communication became hushed voices and gestures. Nobody hung around long after the food was distributed, and pretty much everyone, myself included, just put everything in to-go boxes and left. In the car, my husband complained I’d ruined dinner. I asked him what the woman said about me after the “don’t worry about her, she’s just…” and my husband would only say, “it was nothing” and “it wasn’t anything to get mad about.” I kept after him to tell me exactly what she said, and he finally admitted that he hadn’t heard her either, but it didn’t matter. It wasn’t worth me ruining dinner for the whole table. AITA? ETA: Since posting, I’ve commented here and there, but I think most of my comments have gotten lost in the sea of other, frankly amazing comments, so this is just to add a few things… First and foremost, a huge thanks to everyone who read this and offered their perspective. I especially appreciate the reassurances and hugs, but I also value all the NTAs, YTAs, NAHs, and ESHs. There were many perspectives that had not occurred to me. I was willing to make myself less happy in a misguided attempt to make my husband more happy, so we both made bad choices that night. I’m not giving up on convincing him to try therapy and, in the meantime, I am continuing my therapy and trying to always remember the airplane oxygen mask rule: I have to take care of myself first before I can take care of others. Good advice for everyone, I guess. Thanks again! submitted by /u/throwawaysequence391 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

I am not a cat person. I have never wanted cats. The CDS has gifted me FOUR cats so far. Is there a way to unsubscribe?
In order of pictures you have Ember, Sunny, Jetta, and Dulcet. The white dog is my current dog Archie, and the black dog is my late dog York. Here's how I got each of them, in order: Jetta (8yrs, F brown tortico manx) - 8 years ago I had a friend who would watch my dog while I was at work. My friend also fostered animals. One day she was given a 6 month old kitten found on the side of the road. She was clearly the runt of the litter (which is true to this day, she's never grown bigger than 6lbs, despite eating a ton) and they think she was abandoned by her mom due to having some trouble walking. She was terrified of everything and everyone except, somehow, my 75lb massive black dog. Long story short, she bonded to him, and would refuse to eat or do anything when he wasn't around. When I went to pick up my dog one day my friend just handed me the kitten and a bag of cat food and said "for her own good, she's going home with you". And that's how I spent a night googling how to take care of a cat after I had already gotten one. Sunny & Dulcet (9yrs M Orange tabby, 16yrs F grey tortico) - 3 years ago one of my best friends suddenly passed away, and left behind her two cats. A few weeks after she passed, her family contacted me and said no one else could take them so the cats were mine. No questions asked, just they were now mine. And that was how my cat count went up to 3. Ember (4yrs black shorthair) - This is a slightly longer story, and the only one I'm not sure if it fully qualifies as the CDS. 2 years ago I received a call from a dog trainer friend about a cat at a local cat rescue having some issues. Ember, despite being the sweetest and cuddliest cat you could imagine, could not be adopted and had been with the rescue for a while. Along with the black cat bias, he also had medical issues that would require a special diet and monitoring. On top of that, he had had a PU surgery, and apparently a male cat without a penis is a deal breaker for some people?? It completely erased so many of his medical issues and made it easier to raise him, but some prospective adopters dropped out when they found that out about him. I don't get people. My dog trainer friend recommended me for Ember because Jetta is a special needs kitty due to having spinal bifida/manx syndrome with needs similar to Ember's, and my friend knows I'm not bothered by taking care of her. I told my friend I wasn't interested in any more cats. I had enough already. Well, the people from the rescue just so happened to be there the next time I went to dog training with my friend (my dog Archie is a therapy dog for other reactive dogs, so he helps out) and after talking to them I realized it was basically me or him sitting alone for how many months or years waiting for the right owner. This is the only one I'm not sure if it truly counts as the CDS, since I did make a conscious decision to adopt him, even though I wasn't planning on it. And that's how I got number 4. - Don't get me wrong, I love my cats and they are very much part of the family. But I didn't ask for any of them, and I'm not asking for any more. I still don't know why I was chosen. But please CDS, no more cats. I don't know what to do with them all. submitted by /u/superlosernerd to r/CatDistributionSystem [link] [comments]

AITAH for telling my daughter that she is not going to marry a billionaire?
I (47M) have a bit of a problem. I have a daughter (20 F), and my wife is 46F. She isn't my daughter's biological mother, but has been in her life since she was 13 years old. Her mother and I divorced when she was 12 due to her alcoholism. For about a year now, my daughter has got it in her head that she'll marry a billionaire, and that it will be the only way that she can be happy in this life. I can only speculate that she has got this idea from social media. She's not doing great in school at the moment, and all she talks about it marrying a billionaire, how she thinks she can meet one, what type of house they'll have, how she'll be in a private jet, etc. And she is trying to take the steps to make this happen, which has me worried. I've found out that she has, for example, spent time in hotel lobbies/bars, having a drink, trying to pick up older guys. Mind you, we do not come from poverty, and she has never experienced financial insecurity. But we are definitely not billionaires. My wife has a brother who is very well off, and my daughter has actively tried to get closer to him and his family in the pursuit of wealth. It got to the point where she ended up sharing selfies from the family house on social media, and now she's not allowed in there anymore due to the violation of their privacy. She has pulled similar stunts with other friends and family who have even a bit of a more lavish lifestyle. She also has tried to message some of my own work associated who are in a more 'glamorous' position at work than I am, and I had to find out from them after they shared what my daughter had been sending them on LinkedIn, out of all platforms. She had been sending suggestive stuff to them, and asked one of them to buy her fancy Jewelry. My daughter isn't stupid. She always has done well in school until recently (her performance is very bad at the moment), got into a good university, and is proficient in multiple languages. She also wrote a book when she was 16, and made it quite successful even. But something has happened that has made her so obsessed with money, and I have no idea what it is. She is temporarily staying with us for some weeks as shes looking for a new apartment, and for the past 4-5 days, this entire thing has had her so depressed that she hasn't got out of her bed, and keeps crying out because she doesn't have a billionaire boyfriend/husband and has to stay in places that are not as glamorous as she'd like. She cries like someone has died, and it sounds like intense grief. Every morning, we wake up to her sobbing in her room. I've tried talking to her, and have tried the loving approach of comforting her, and telling her that one day she'll find someone who loves her as much as I do. It hasn't been good enough, and she'll say nasty things like "Yeah but he'll probably be broke so I don't care". I then took a more direct approach and told her that there's only a very tiny fraction of the world's population who are billionaires, and most of them tend to marry each other (or are married already), so the statistical odds of this billionaire romance happening for her are practically zero. My wife thought I was being an asshole by being so direct with her, and that "I didn't have to ruin it for her like that". She tried defending her by saying that my daughter is still young, and that I should allow her to have her fantasies. But I just don't agree. Everyone can dream, sure, but the fact that she has already violated the boundaries of multiple people, and that this situation is getting so on top of her that it's affecting her academic performance, means that something needs to be done. This cannot be healthy in the long term. Plus her trying to talk to much older men is just dangerous, and I really worry that she's going to end up hurt. So AITAH for this approach? Edit: I've reached out to therapists, and I'm also going through my daughter's social media at the moment, which is all public. I am trying to find any glaring red flags that may put her in danger. Will update later. Thanks everyone for your suggestions aside from those who just provided a list of ways to marry rich. What happened to love? As someone pointed out, yes, love alone does not pay the bills, but what is so wrong with looking for a partner that has a stable income doing what they love? Stability is not only found in the riches. Why does this person even have to be incredibly rich? Maybe I am just being a weird old person here, but I am honestly astounded that this attitude is so common these days. I feel bad for the tiktok generation. Edit/update: It hasn't been many hours since my initial post but I am honestly trying to process everything, and I think writing this will help me. So it's Sunday, so there has been 0 response from the medical professionals I contacted. No updates there. If my daughter wants to go to therapy, I will 100% support it, and pay for it. Speaking of, many people here have blamed me for enabling my daughter. I am not quite sure how to feel about it yet. I have paid for her studies, her rent, and travel in case if she wants to go abroad to see her cousin who she is close with (and who I believe is an excellent wonderful role model, she's a successful woman who I think my daughter should definitely look up to). I do not pay for my daughter's luxuries. She has asked for me to get her designer things and trips to places like Monaco previously, and I've told her that she needs to get a job as a tutor or something similar if she wants fancy things, because she needs to understand the value of money. I have however bought her luxuries like an iPhone, a tablet, and a Macbook, but with the condition that she uses them to improve her life (i.e., using them at university to complete assignments). So, I have some things to share now that I feel may be relevant. One was that I did a thorough check of her TikTok and Instagram. She had multiple profiles, but she always followed herself, so I managed to find those. And yes, she had reposted some alarming content from various female influencers. A lot of them surprisingly were rather misogynistic, just packaged in a glamorous way. Lots of women saying things like "A rich man will choose a poor but skinny waitress instead of an overweight CEO". She had been actively reposting content of women's shopping hauls of what their rich boyfriend/husband got them. Lots of stuff about how men cannot love, and how women should look like to get a rich guy. There are some videos she liked to repost in particular where a woman just screams at her camera, telling her viewers to "wake up" and "stop dating brokies". Just horrible toxic stuff that will rot your brain. She also had posts of her own from expensive restaurants among other places where I can only assume guys had taken her out on dates. And I don't mean a 60€ steakhouse. I mean restaurants where they serve 11 course meals can cost at least 200€ per person. As she's not employed, I know for sure she's not paying for that herself. She also had a post where she explained, alarmingly, that women who want a handsome guy are "trashy" because real "high-value" (as she called it) women go for a man's resources, not looks. It was absolutely bizarre seeing her talk like that. Then there was something even more alarming. She had written a post that implied she's subscribed to some course that is supposed to make her rich and famous. Some "content creator club". Basically, as I understood it, she had paid 500€ out of her savings/the money I had given her to some Russian creator whose entire online persona revolves around provider men and her "glow up". The 500€ went to coaching sessions with said creator where she was teaching my daughter the tricks to make money on social media. It sounded like a giant scam, in all honesty. The woman seemed rather crappy as well, proudly accepting big amounts of money from desperate girls who wanted to be famous/rich. How do I know this? My daughter had several posts about it, that were all set to public (which is no longer the case, as I've asked her to make her social media private, which she thankfully has agreed to). Anyway. Then came the talk. I finally spoke to my daughter. I told her that first and foremost, she's an adult and gets to make adult choices, and whatever she does, and whoever she dates, is up to her. That said, I told her that I was concerned about her. I tried to gently ask what kind of guys she goes on dates with, and that of course she doesn't have to tell me, but if we can have an open dialogue, I think it would make both of us feel better. She did end up admitting that she goes out with much older guys, who are between 30 and 60 years old. As a dad, as much as I felt grossed out, I wanted her to feel safe to tell me, as if anything ever happens, she can come to me. I asked her why she's so keen on having a much older rich guy, and what that may bring in her life that she doesn't already have. She just mentioned the private jet, shopping trips, a big house. I told her that while those things certainly can be fun, it's not worth risking her autonomy and education for that stuff, particularly because the chance that she'll end up with someone who will financially abuse her is quite high. Well, she sort of just thought she's too smart to be taken advantage of. Go figure. I brought up a lot of bad things that can happen, and asked if she had read anything about the E-files. She hadn't. I told her that there are numerous of reports of women and girls ending up in really bad situations. It went right over her head as well. I then asked why she had been sobbing, if she feels depressed, etc, and she finally broke down in tears again. I asked if something had happened that she didn't want to tell me about, and she said yes. I froze. I thought of the worst that a dad can think of, and contemplated to go and grab a baseball bat. But nope, it was something different. She sobbed for good 15 minutes without being able to say a word, but I patiently waited until she could. She told me that around a year ago, her and her friend snuck to a party together in one of these fancy hotels. Her friend apparently is also into the whole "provider man" dating trend. They had fun, had some food and drinks there, and according to my daughter, "all the men were only into her friend", and a guy she had been eyeing for the whole night ended up asking for her friend's number instead. This then repeated multiple times over several months, where her friend would get approached instead of her. Then a little later, the girls found out that there actually was some guy who was a few years older at the university, in their program, who actually was the son of a multi-millionaire. It became a huge fight between my daughter and her friend where they began both trying to get the guy. This girl, who my daughter thought was her friend, started then spreading nasty rumors about my daughter, and also had tried sabotaging her weight loss, as my daughter has always struggled with her weight. Her now former friend is now in a serious relationship with this guy, and as a result, my daughter feels like she was "robbed" of a potentially good future with him. She also said that she feels so jealous all the time of her friend that it's consuming her. I was a bit confused. That was all? I even asked my daughter multiple times that this was all that happened, and that no one had ever done anything to her against her consent, but no, that wasn't the case. She even went as far as to tell me that she's not even active, if you know what I mean. Sure, bullying can be traumatic, but my daughter's reaction still seems indicative of something else. She wants to continue at the university, and has told me she will try again to pass some of the courses she hasn't passed yet, but doesn't seem to take it as seriously as she probably should. So all in all, not sure where to go from here. My daughter has thankfully agreed to speak to a therapist. So that's good news. That's all for now. TLDR: Daughter is freaking out because she's worried she won't ever be married to a billionaire. Her social media is alarming, filled with content that I wasn't super happy to see. Wouldn't tell me what's wrong, then finally broke down that it's all because her friend stole a rich guy from her that she had a crush on. submitted by /u/No_Reception8930 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

TIFU paying for sex
I paid a sex worker to sleep with my friend who was still a virgin at the age of 28. For the record, I had nothing against my friend being a virgin at that age, but he was beginning to behave like an incel. He made it seem like women hated him, even though he never bothered to get to know any women. I was getting sick of listening to him complain about almost being a 30 year old virgin, so I joked about paying someone to sleep with him. He was laughing at first, but then he asked enough questions afterwards to convince me that he might be interested in an arrangement like that. I decided to set it up for real. My friend "reluctantly" allowed me to share his contact information with the escort service as soon as I showed him pictures of the sex worker I selected. I did my part. A date was set. Payment was made. All my friend had to do was have sex. I received several sporadic calls from my friend throughout the evening that made me feel like I should never have done this. Call 1: He wanted to know if it was a good idea to masturbate before the sex worker showed up so he could last longer. I encouraged him to leave his dick alone and let the outcome be whatever it ends up being, come what may. My stupid cum puns made him laugh and managed to relax him a little. Mission accomplished. Or so I thought. Call 2: He wanted to know if he could send me a dick pic so I could tell him if his dick looked good enough. I said I didn't want to see his dick. He promised his dick would be flaccid in the photo to make the whole thing "less gay." I said it was gonna be gay either way before repeating that I did not want to see his fucking dick. Call 3: He wanted to apologise for sending me the dick pic anyway, but he also wanted feedback since he sent it. I told him to stop calling. I ignored calls 4 and 5, which prompted him to send me messages to please answer my phone. Call 6: He said he was thinking of calling off the sex worker because his bed apparently had a huge dent in the middle, which was "unsuitable for sex." I suggested he flipped the mattress on the other side or fuck on the couch, but to cancel sex because of a dent in the mattress that never bothered him before, sounded like an excuse to back out. Call 7: He wanted to know what kind of food sex workers usually eat because he made spaghetti. I asked if he was asking me what kind of food people eat because sex workers were not a different species. He said most people he knew enjoyed spaghetti. I asked if there was anything else he wanted to know because I wanted him to stop calling. He said the next time he called, it would be to debrief. Call 8: He wanted me to know that he was spying on the sex worker through his bedroom window while she was talking to one of his neighbours outside. He said based on their body language it was clear that the two of them knew each other. I asked if he was no longer a virgin. He said he struggled to get it up and subsequently gave up, and now he was watching the sex worker laughing about it with his neighbour. I said that's probably not what was happening. He said he was thinking of going out there and confronting them. I advised him against it, but he hung up. Call 9: The call came from me this time. No answer. Call 10: I called again a few minutes later. My friend finally answered the phone and said the sex worker left in an Uber when he eventually made it outside with the intention of inserting himself in their conversation. He said he asked his neighbour how he knew the woman who just left in the Uber and the neighbour said he was one of her first clients. According to the neighbour, he was going through a divorce at the time after spending years in a sexless marriage, so the first thing he did to fix that was to fuck a 20 year old baddie. My friend asked me if I was willing to pay for his therapy too because not only did he fucking fail at fucking, but now his fucking neighbour knew they fucked the same sex worker. I said I was just trying to help. My friend thanked me, albeit sarcastically, and said goodbye. I think he's ghosting me now. Tl:dr Paid a sex worker to sleep with my virgin friend. Dude struggled to get hard and gave up, which was embarrassing enough for him, but then he also found out his neighbour fucked the same sex worker he did, and now he's ghosting me because I was the catalyst. submitted by /u/NunsWithNunchucks to r/tifu [link] [comments]

AITAH for kicking my husband's family out of my home during family dinner?
I have been with my husband for 8 years. We have a 2yo daughter together. So, for the first 6 years of our relationship, my husband could not hold a job down to save his life. It truly did not bother me the way some people would think. I was in the medical field, made very good money and he didnt ask for much. He was also very good to me. So, zero issues. But it was linked to untreated ADHD and depression. During these 6 years, I was paying all of our bills; and as much as I hate to put it out there, I was all but supporting his family as well. His sister and brother specifically, whom are both older than me and my husband by 4+ years, and while less frequent, his mom. During those 6 years I had given these people right around $50k. Money for mortgage payments and car payments and food and sports fees for their children, etc etc. It adds up super quick. Never once did I ask for repayment. It didnt actually bother me until the end of year 6, when my MIL showed up on my doorstep for a drop in family meeting and told me that "the whole family" needed to chip in for one of the other families lawyer fees and after I generously hand over $3k, I found out that I was the only one who actually contributed. That was a gut punch and was absolutely the last straw. I haven't given any of them a dime sense. But again, it didnt bother me UNTIL that point and I instantly took care of it and said no more. My husband was fully on my side (he told me to stop helping them prior) but I absolutely got push back from the family. Around this time I found out I was also 6 months pregnant (wasnt showing, still had my cycle, etc). So fast forward.. my husband gets on meds for ADHD, gets fully involved in therapy, went for his trucking license and has been working steady since I was roughly 8 months pregnant. Has only missed one shift (the day I went in to labor) and is doing kick ass. Meds were an absolute game changer. I have been a SAHM ever since. Husband makes around 4x more than I was making at the hospital as well. Here's the problem.. my husband refuses to help his family out financially and for whatever reason, it has just been brought to my attention that I am being blamed for it. We had his entire family over for dinner and this is the first time we have been around the entire group in 2 years. They dont even call anymore. We hosted dinner, everything was going well. But then my MIL asked me when I was planning to return to work. I said I had no plan to until my daughter was in school. She said something like "that simply doesnt work". I questioned what she meant. Her and SIL both go in to how they feel it isnt fair to my husband that I have no income and roughly beat around the bush about me "not helping" financially the way I used to and that they can no longer depend on family for help. Which was their way of saying that their cash cow is gone and it bothers them. I reminded them that I contributed to their life for 6 years, totaling around $50k, and I did more than my fair share. MIL then tells me that she has "paid back more than that", because she has brought me old expired food bank food on several occasions (which we told her not to do) and brought over her old, partially broken 1930s furniture for us to have (which, again, we told her not to do). I told her that in no way was that repayment. On her alone I had given over $8k. Anyways, this argument escalated to mainly MIL saying that it is unfair to my husband that I am contributing nothing to the household. I argued that I supported him and his entire family for 6 years. She said "surely he has paid you back. You haven't done anything in 2 years". So I snapped and said that paying rent for 2 years with zero financial contribution exceeding basics is in no way paying me back (when he shouldn't have to, because he wasnt the one using me financially) is not repayment and told everyone to "get the fuck out". Its important to note that my husband was NOT home for this. He had actually run to the store to get more of something that we ran out of. So he wasnt present or he would have stepped in. But after some back and forth and me just repeating to get out and them refusing, I said I was going to call the cops. They finally start leaving. I tell them they arent welcome back here and that we will be going no contact. They were gone by the time my husband got back home. When I told him what happened, he went real quiet. He apologized for what they said and did while he was gone, but also tried justifying it. Saying that they likely just meant that they thought I should be working too to help him with bills. I asked why he was trying to downplay this and he said "because everyone knows that households cant survive on one income in 2026" and said something about how he could work less hours and spend more time with our kid if i got a job too (he works 50hr weeks, is always home before 5pm). Keep in mind he makes $140k a year and ALL our expenses do not exceed $4k monthly. This dude has a savings of almost $200k and we arent hurting for money at all. I cant speak to him right now, as I am absolutely disgusted with this entire situation. I need validation/clarification that I am not wrong here. Edit: a lot of you are terrible at math, and thats fine. I will break it down because I guess I was confusing in my post. My husband's take home is $140k a year. Thats after taxes. Our bills dont exceed $4k a month. So 140k divided by 12 months is a little over $11k, meaning he has almost $8k a month he is able to save. $8k a month multiplied by 24 months (2 years) is $192k. Our rent is $1000, everything included. He has a motorcycle, car and truck that he is paying for. My vehicle is paid off. Again, all monthly expense is less than $4k. Now, I worked for 6 years and made roughly 4x less in take home pay. It was roughly $36k. Our rent was $650 a month, everything included. One vehicle at that time and one less person to feed. Our bills didnt exceed $1600 on the very high end. I gave his family $50k OVER THE SPAN OF 6 YEARS. Thats truly not that hard to do, at all. I dont know where the disconnect is on understanding the fact that this was over 6 years. Please think deeper before broadcasting that you cant understand math and accusing me of lying because you cant understand. Thank you. submitted by /u/Physical-Pin243 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA for accidentally ruining my autistic boyfriends safe food
Original post from r/AmItheAsshole by u/stewlessinseattle I am not OOP Original Post: Jan 2, 2025 AITA for accidentally ruining my autistic boyfriends safe food My boyfriend loves stew, he wants to eat it every day for every meal. His favorite stew is beef tips and vegetables from a local place, but it’s really expensive. Like $47 for a big bowl (they don’t do small orders for takeout) and he is grossed out by leftovers so more than half of it gets wasted. We’ve had a couple of arguments about it, he says I don’t understand his brain, I say he doesn’t understand our budget. recently I looked up some recipes, including doing a dissection of the takeout soup, and tried my hand at making a home cooked replacement for stew night. He loved it for a few days, and then one night he was hanging out with me in the kitchen and saw me put tomato paste into the pot, he was really upset and demanded that I make the soup without the paste. I told him it wouldn’t taste the same and he said it would be better because he hates tomatoes, they’re not a safe food for him. So I made the soup with no tomato paste and big surprise, something felt off about it to him. Instead of admitting that the tomato paste was necessary he threw a fit and told me he didn’t want home cooked food anymore if I was going to “play with him” and not take his safe foods seriously, he thinks I changed more than just the tomato paste in an effort to get him to admit he was wrong. $400 in stew orders later I had an idea to ask the chef when we were picking up the order if there was any tomato products in the stew, and lo and behold there is tomato in the recipe, fucking tomato paste. In my mind this was great because I thought he would get over it if he knew his original perfect stew had tomato paste like “oh I guess tomato paste isn’t so bad then” but it was the exact opposite. He walked out of the restaurant without saying anything and then refused to eat the stew that night and hasn’t ordered it again, and he’s been ignoring me while sulking around the house, using his whiny voice a lot, and slamming things. His sister also texted me to tell me I’m a selfish asshole for needing to “get back at him” by taking his favorite food away. I literally just wanted to stop spending insane amounts of money on stew, I wasn’t trying to hurt him or ruin his life. I’m not autistic, I can’t really wrap my head around caring this much about a single ingredient, I genuinely didn’t see this reaction coming. We’ve been together for four years and he’s only had three other fits like this, the other ones were pretty reasonable. Those were also a little less intense and didn’t include input from his family, this is the first time anyone in his family has EVER spoke to me like this. So I’ve been back and forth between “yall are overreacting” and “what have I done”. AITA? It sounds so dumb when I write it all out but living it has made me feel physically sick with regret, I can’t think straight anymore. ETA: I’m getting ready for work right now so I can’t respond to individual comments but there’s some recurring confusion/questions I wanted to clear up because it might effect the answers: 1/ The stew place is a catering place with a mini-restaurant, so every time we order takeout we’re ordering a catering amount pretty much, it’s not stew made of gold lol 2/ We order from there 2-3 nights a week, it’s not the only thing he eats it’s just the top 5 foods for him, he doesn’t eat this unreasonably every single day. 3/ He has a job and contributes with money, I’m not funding his entire diet. We do mix money, so even though “he” pays for the meal half the time it does still feel like “we’re” losing money. He works part time and I work full time, bills are probably split 70-30. Editor's Note: OOP was 26, BF was 33 Consensus: OOP was NTA Relevant Comments from OOP: Additional info: When he first blew up on me about putting tomato paste in the stew at home I told him that pretty much all of the recipes online included tomato paste, that I wasn’t trying to mess with him I was just trying to make it as close as possible to what he likes. He told me that was a bullshit excuse because “what I like is the stew from the catering place, if you can’t make that then don’t bother” and I told him that the catering place probably makes the stew the same way. He told me that he would be able to tell if there was tomato in that stew and we had sort of a “We’ll see” ending to that argument. We didn’t do a pickup order for a few weeks but when we did is when I asked about the ingredients, we were both present and i was under the impression that we would eventually ask, but i did blurt it out without warning him from his perspective if he wasn’t expecting it. He had a “if there’s tomato in it I guess I’m crazy and I like them” attitude during the argument so I thought he’d be more accepting of the answer. It was kind of an I told you so moment either way because I was right, but I didn’t say anything to him before he stormed off, it was pretty much instant. I wasn’t trying to “teach him a lesson” I literally just don’t want to go broke over stew. Leaving it alone was going to bankrupt us, that’s not really something I could have done. I tried making it cheaper at home, I tried reasoning with him at the restaurant, I’m not a magician like what am I supposed to do at that point. I don’t know what “flexing” on this would have been other than actually letting us become homeless. BF’s behavior: I didn’t say he’s acting whiny, I said he’s using that kind of voice. It’s a specific voice he turns to when he’s in a bad mood and it’s the best way to describe it. But honestly, he IS being whiny. Weeks of huffing, slamming doors, and snapping at me every time I try to talk to him all because I told him there was tomatoes in his takeout stew, maybe you’re right and I’m not being empathetic enough but I think I deserve better than this kind of behavior. Maybe a more empathetic person would be able to take it with a smile on their face, maybe im just not that guy. About income/bills: 70% my income 30% his, rent, utilities, food, streaming services etc included. We have a mutual account where checks get deposited that bills autopay from, and then we each have a private account for savings and debt. He makes less money than me and he also has more debt from prior to our relationship (school, car, private loan) so he puts in a lot less. BF’s contributions: There’s no such thing as “his fun money”, he makes less than we pay in food overall. If I told him to pay his own way he’d starve to death, it just wouldn’t work. He also refuses to work more hours, he’s trying to run a side gig that takes up a considerable amount of time and working full time on top of it would squash that. He’d rather move back in with his parents than work full time, it’s something he’s drawn a line in the sand about. He thinks I changed the stew to fuck with him because he couldn’t accept that tomatoes were the secret ingredient of the catering stew, that’s literally it. I’m not in the habit of secretly screwing around with his food. He obviously wouldn’t have even tried it in the first place if that was a regular occurrence at our house. I’m not sure what else I could be doing to support his needs at this point, I’m not an ATM or a robot butler I’m literally just a person trying my best. Idk. Update: May 21, 2025 - (4 months later) Update Post I still get messages about this sometimes so I thought I would do an update post instead of responding to everyone individually, it’s nothing really interesting. I had to basically kick him out right after I made the first post, he lived at his parents house and then moved in with a friend. He has a job and his attitude is a little bit better. We went to couples counseling for three weeks but then had an argument and stopped going because it felt like it was doing more harm than good sometimes. We’re not really together anymore but we’re more than just friends, it’s a weird nebulous thing that I can’t put into words. He really wants to make things work again and I’m trying but it’s hard to see him the same after everything, I have a few months to feel things out and decide for sure. Probably not what everyone was hoping for but it’s just the way things are rn. (Transcribed from OOP's screenshots) It’s complicated, we’re not “together” but we’re not really fully broken up either. We’re separated but we’re still friends and we hang out, he wants to try things over again but I still have 7 months on my lease and I don’t plan on moving him back in at this place because it was a whole thing with management getting him out of the apartment the first time and it was honestly too embarrassing to ask them to put him back on. So if we move back in together it’s going to be somewhere else. I’m waiting until closer to my lease ending to decide how I’m feeling, I still don’t know. That is also complicated. We did couples counseling for a few weeks after he moved out and we talked about a lot of stuff, the stew stuff was really convoluted. It would be really hard to explain succinctly over text but basically he knew he was wasting money and being ridiculous and he was doing it on purpose. He liked wasting the money, it made him feel rich. I went over to his house a few months ago and he had cooked the stew himself at home as a way to say sorry, but it really just made me more frustrated. We had a big argument over that and even though he felt bad for lying to me last year now he was acting mad at ME for not immediately accepting his apology and “being thankful for his gesture”. After that we didn’t really talk about the stew again, he just glazed over it when I saw him the next week and things have been sort of weird since then. Basically he said sorry, but he’s not really acting like he’s sorry. He’s acting like i need to just get over it because he stopped eating the stew and buying figures and lazing around the house. There’s nothing to be mad at anymore so I’m not allowed to be mad at all, I’m supposed to pretend it never happened. I don’t know if that really counts as taking responsibility or not. I know he wants things to go back to normal but I’m not sure I can see him that way anymore. It’s unfair of me to keep telling him that what he’s doing isn’t good enough but I’m not really sure what I want from him at this point. That’s why I don’t know if we’ll actually be getting back together or not, it depends on if I can get over it by the end of the year. Top Commentor: Respectfully, run. He Doesn't want to fix anything, he just wants to wear you down to the point where you accept this kind of behaviour and treatment as normal and okay. Basically he said sorry, but he's not really acting like he's sorry. This tells you exactly what you need to know. He doesn't think he was in the wrong, he's just trying to placate you back into being with him. That's why it felt like couple's therapy did more harm than good. It only works if you both want to grow and improve your relationship together. He doesn't want to change or improve, he wants you to get over it and stop talking about the thing he did wrong so he can go back to acting the same way. Final Update: Sep 17, 2025 - (8 months after original post) We Broke Up I forgot this acc existed but I’ve been getting comments on my update from forever ago out of nowhere. I’m really trying to get over this so I’m just going to let you guys know what’s up and then delete this acc off of my phone I think. We’re not getting back together, I haven’t even talked to him for months, we tried to take a break to get into a more healthy relationship dynamic and he pretty much went insane. I have him blocked on everything and I am moving back home at the end of this year and scrubbing his existence and this entire relationship from my brain. I feel like this has been a huge waste of my life and my time and my energy, everything I put into building my life these past few years feels like hot garbage that fell on my face. Idk. He was doing really good for a while and then started drinking again because he’s living with a very enabling friend and went off the fucking rails. He’s not autistic, he has bipolar disorder. He apparently got diagnosed with this in highschool and felt ashamed of it because he thinks it’s feminine, so his ENTIRE FAMILY decided to start telling people he had autism instead. I cannot explain to you the sickness I felt when he was explaining this to me, I felt like someone hit me with a car. I feel like a psycho. Everything I know about the facts of his life are supported by half truths and outright lies. I literally feel so fucking played it’s insane. The embarrassment I feel anytime I have to talk about him, or my life AT ALL the past few years, it’s crazy. I’m going home and I’m going to stay with my sister and sub and pretend like none of this literally happened at all. I went to college, I graduated, I moved back home, the parts in between are going to be deleted from my brain. I have had a therapist here for a few years now that I’ve seen on and off and I have been seeing her more this year to talk about everything that happened, but I mostly feel talked-out on the subject, so I’m not sure if I’m going to get another therapist when I move. Part of me feels like I’ll be dragging it all there with me if I start seeing someone new and have to explain everything again, but I don’t feel great about moving somewhere new and going “cold turkey”. If anyone has advice on that that would be great. TIFU by chasing diagnoses for 35 years—and the answer was in my dinner
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/killfr3nzy TIFU by chasing diagnoses for 35 years—and the answer was in my dinner Originally posted to r/tifu Thanks to u/czechtheboxes for suggesting this BoRU TRIGGER WARNING: Body horror, gross Original Post Jan 21, 2026 Let me start by saying this is a TIFU that spans about 35 years. When I was around 7, I started getting painful swelling in my neck/throat on a road trip with my cousins. Everyone assumed I was just getting sick and that some sun and time would clear it up. I remember it vividly because it was so uncomfortable I could barely eat. I dealt with it for about a week before I got back home and told my parents. They took me to the pediatrician, who poked around and told my mom I had mumps, despite being vaccinated. Awesome. It eventually went away… until around 10, when it happened again. New doctor, fresh out of school, said there’s no way this is mumps and sent me for imaging and testing. Everything came back inconclusive. The new conclusion was that it was psychosomatic, and I got funneled into years of therapy and appointments about why I couldn’t just “let it go,” why I was “attention seeking,” maybe it was ADHD, etc. The sensation never truly left — it just fluctuated in severity. Fast forward to 19. I’m in the military and home on leave visiting friends and family. This has been bothering me for 12 years at that point. I rode with a buddy to the Sprint store (it was below freezing and his truck heater had the thermal output of a mouse fart). We grabbed hot coffee before heading back out. I took one sip and felt something in my throat/neck move—like inches. I started coughing like crazy and hacked out a tonsil stone about the size of a popcorn kernel. I had no idea what it was at the time, so I wrapped it in tissue and brought it home. My parents immediately recognized it. I was relieved and figured that had to be the end of it. It wasn’t. Fast forward again to about 32. I’ve got kids, a wife, a career. Managing tonsil stones mostly worked, but I still had that persistent “lump in throat” feeling almost all the time. I finally saw an ENT in the city we’d just moved to. He basically said, “Forget the tonsil stone routines — let’s just take your tonsils out.” I was 1000% on board. No more weird mouth washes, brushing like a crazy person, avoiding certain foods… I was ready to be done. Surgery happened. Recovery was insane (blood, a backwoods ER, fentanyl for minor pain, and a hospital that looked like it had ten total people in it). But hey — tonsils were gone. Except the lump feeling was still there. I assumed it was phantom pain from surgery and tried to live with it. We moved again to a bigger city and I went for what felt like my 100th opinion. More tests, more appointments. The conclusion this time: allergies. I did three years of allergy shots. Still felt it. At that point I was completely defeated. Everyone either thought I was nuts or drug seeking. Even family still treated it like mental health. I gave up. Then yesterday, my youngest made Taco Rice for dinner. I’m sitting there eating like a pig and suddenly I bite down on something VERY hard, about the size of a small marble. I spit it into a napkin and it’s a bone. Like an actual chunk of bone. My first thought was, “How the hell does a bone like that end up in ground beef?” Then it hit me: the lump feeling was… gone. For the first time in 35 years: no swelling, no pain, no persistent lump sensation, no “mumps,” nothing. Just normal. TL;DR: I spent 35 years being told I had mumps, anxiety, allergies, or was making it up. Did years of therapy, got my tonsils removed, did years of allergy shots. Then yesterday I bit down on a bone chunk during dinner and the lifelong “lump in throat” sensation disappeared instantly. Before the comments: No, I haven’t had imaging since — I’m booking an ENT follow-up because this is insane. Yes, I kept it (bagged it) because nobody will believe me otherwise. I get that it could’ve been lodged somewhere weird (tonsillar area/throat pocket/etc.) — I’m not claiming medical magic, just that this happened exactly like I described. I also get that it could be something other than bone, also why I saved it. THE PROOF Processing img 8a7aubxy3qeg1... 100 yen for scale RELEVANT COMMENTS/ THEORIES XxmsmaliciousxX I wonder, if you lost a tooth way back and swallowed it, and it got stuck in one of the MANY folds in your throat. Still weird how no one wanted to do more imaging of your throat, especially as a child. A tooth being somewhere it shouldn't should've glowed on an xray. Glad you finally got relief though. OOP Holy crap this might actually be it. It is kinda dead tooth shaped and sized. I will bring this up at my appointment. Go look at the pic I posted in another reply. XxmsmaliciousxX Yeah that honestly looks like a baby tooth that has a couple decades of "rot" and such wrapped around it. Kids swallow their teeth all the time. You may have just been one of the very very small percentage that had it not follow the esophagus down to the stomach. I'm just someone who is fascinated by weird medical. Lol Definitely bring it up with your doctor and get it tested. So cool! I'm glad you finally have relief all these years later!!! Please update us and let us know wtf that is for sure!!! ~ CostcoVodkaFancier Calcified tonsil stone? crestedgeckovivi This is what I'm thinking! That when he had that first allergic reaction his body never got rid of it and it was a pocket in thr mucosal arwa off the main tonsils etc. Like I have small tonsils and where I get "tonsils stones" is actually in these little pockets that are behind/side back of the tongue in my throat. Not the actual tonsils. (My partner has HUGE tonsils and regularly gets tonsils issues etc. Vs I don't but when I do it's always my little tonsils clear up quick but the area below takes way longer to hack up. Like weeks later if not months. ...) ~ Flogman89 Hello I am a dentist. That's an odd color for a piece of bone that has come loose from a structure in the body. But thinking about your sensation of this object over the years and it kind of moving almost makes me wonder if you accidentally aspirated some object back when you were a kid and maybe you thought it came out but it never actually did but it was so flat that you could still breathe and it not obstruct your airway and it was so kind of irregularly shaped that it couldn't easily just be coughed up. Did the ENT ever look down your trachea or larynx? Also bone when you look at it up close typically is very porous almost like a sponge has a lot of holes in it any chance we can get a really close picture of this object? ZimaGotchi I can't imagine he would have had his own, living bone in his throat and I have to assume that dead bone would have disintegrated by now. I bet it's plastic. Part of a toy or the cap from something. I don't think plastic shows up very well on imaging either right? OOP Strong possibility, I chewed on stuff like crazy as a kid. I will bring this up during my appointment as well. ZimaGotchi They're going to examine it under a microscope and find "©1982 HASBRO" OOP I mean that would be pretty epic. 100% going to reach out to Hasbro if that's the case. "Hasbro has some of the most durable products a kid could want! Guaranteed to last at least 35 years embedded in soft tissue or your money back!" Update 1 Jan 28, 2026 *** Update *** Doc had to send it off for pathology to see what it is and make sure its nothing to be worried about. They did cut into it and you can clearly see some kind of base layer covered in 35 years of other crud. Checked out my throat and could see pretty clearly where it came from. Nurse and doc seem to think its something organic maybe a fish bone/scale but laughed and did not dismiss the 1982 Hasbro idea! Should hear back on what it is in the next few days. Also shout out to the staff at the ENT office who got a kick out of this post and the replies! Update 2 Feb 3, 2026 Winner winner! Pathology stated its a fragment of tooth. Thinking back I had a lot of "Baby" teeth pulled as a kid because they just would not fall out. Wonder if one broke and a chunk "vanished" and thats where it came from. It was too far gone to identify what tooth it might have come from. I have never had major dental issues outside of not losing teeth like a normal kid. No cavities, no gum issues, nothing. TIFU after I discovered my favourite food combo completely took an accident, and now my roommate thinks I need therapy.
TIFU, So this happened last night. I came home after a horrible day, traffic, deadlines, passive-aggressive emails, the full combo. I was starving but too tired to cook anything real. I opened the fridge like my life would magically get better if I stared long enough. There was literally nothing except leftover curd rice, Maggie masala noodles, and a tiny pack of pickle. I don’t know what possessed me, but I mixed all three together... yes, curd rice + Maggie + pickle and ate it. And it was… insanely good. Like shockingly good. I sat there questioning my entire identity because how did that taste better than half the food I’ve ever ordered? My roommate walked in right at the moment I was taking a proud second bowl and looked at me like she was witnessing a crime. She still refuses to sit next to me and keeps telling people we need an intervention. Now I’m scared to ask this in real life so I’m asking strangers on Reddit: What’s the weirdest food combination you absolutely love and swear by? I really need proof I’m not the only broken one. TL;DR: I mixed curd rice + Maggi + pickle out of hunger and exhaustion, and it turned out so ridiculously good that I’m questioning my life choices. Now my roommate thinks I need therapy, so I’m here asking if anyone else has an embarrassing food combo they secretly love. submitted by /u/theGRCmind to r/tifu [link] [comments]

10 steps forward 1000 back.
Hi I’m 26f mom of 2. I have my second on the way and I’m scared shitless. I pray and hope for an easy transition. My son, 3 is on the spectrum, they say he’s a level 2. He was diagnosed at 18 months as a level 3. He’s been in therapy ever since. He does 40 hrs of ABA and 1-2 hours of speech and feeding therapy weekly/daily. I’m up to my neck with this food shit. He’s refusing all his safe options we are down to the wire. He is not eating his pizza , barely touches his cinnamon rolls and he gave up on all safe snacks except Pringle’s. His diet is complete shit and it infuriates me. Doctors don’t give a shit because his weight and height are on par with his age. But nutrition wise he’s totally missing everything. Now nights are fucking horrific. He’s taking longer to fall asleep because he’s been skipping naps due to hunger. He’ll nap at 5pm wake up at 6 and give me and his father helll all night long. I’m sick of it! Sometimes I wish autism didn’t happen to him. He try’s so hard to speak and advocate for himself and it’s a stutter and then he falls into complete frustration. Idk what to do anymore. I’m a wreck and I want my son to get better. Plus he’s going through his toddler phase on top of everything. Idk what to do. Am I failing him ☹️😔. submitted by /u/Southern_Banana3082 to r/Autism_Parenting [link] [comments]

I recently published a book to help picky eaters try new foods through feeding therapy strategies.
I wanted to share a few pages of a book I recently published. My son has been in feeding therapy for a long time and I wanted to make something for him that could be used during mealtimes to work on some of the things we were doing in feeding therapy. This book uses a graded exposure approach to eating starting with being near the food, then touching it, then smelling it, then licking it, then biting it, and finally eating the food. It surprisingly worked really well for my son, who's easily influenced by books. If I ask him to try a new food now, he'll often repeat lines from the book, like 'I can lick it first' or 'I can take a small bite' and so on. Even if he doesn't end up eating the food, I'm still happy with the progress he's making. I know there are a lot of parents struggling with picky eating, so hopefully this can help other families. I usually do free ebook promos every few months, so if anyone is interested in the ebook version, I can DM you the next time I'm allowed to do one (as per Amazon's rules). I'm currently working on a series of these books with different foods and feeding therapy strategies. Any feedback is always appreciated. The writing and illustrations are both done by me. submitted by /u/Big_Black_Cat to r/childrensbooks [link] [comments]

It took seven years for my autistic son to try a single new food. Seven years of therapy. Seven years of hoping. Seven years for a sister to watch, wait—and finally celebrate....
Life with a disability is not without joy. It just means you must train your eye to see the wins that otherwise go unwitnessed. The world may never affirm our families as good, but we can. There are miracles in the mundane. And in turkey sandwiches. submitted by /u/Sharp-Potential7934 to r/MadeMeSmile [link] [comments]

Food therapy
Where do I start and is it worth it? My child has a very limited diet and is triggered by smells. He has not bonded with care providers in the past (OT, psychologists) and I worry that finding a professional to help him with broadening his diet is going to cause more stress than help… Anyone have a success story? submitted by /u/Mysterious-Speed-254 to r/Autism_Parenting [link] [comments]

Food therapy/advice?
My 5 year old has always had issues with food and lately it’s gotten a lot worse. He stopped eating his safe foods and it’s become a real challenge and very stressful. He lives off of homemade Nutella uncrustables and crackers and that’s all he has been eating. He has never ate any meat he always had an extreme adversion to it all but he would eat an egg, a tortilla with cheese, yogurt tubes, applesauce pouches, waffles, banana, etc. He will not do smoothies. I can’t even put anything on his plate new for him to try bc it grosses him out and he will end up throwing the plate. We have done OT/food therapy and stopped for now bc I don’t feel like it’s made a difference. I feel like I need to be more proactive and come up with a way to change things and incentivize him. Any suggestions on ways I can incorporate at home food therapy or anyone I can follow for tips/advice? submitted by /u/CuriousNik-21 to r/Autism_Parenting [link] [comments]
