Mia Thermopolis - The Princess Diaries Seriously, who on Earth was petty enough to start a trope that was as undermining as this? This trope just turns the girl into a standardized Hollywood perspective hot girl and the only purpose for this trope is to hook the girl up with a hot standardized Hollywood perspective boy Glasses being symbolised as "ugly" is so hateful considering how without them people have insane difficulty seeing. Not to mention that this trope is also a bad influence on young children who wear glasses as it forces this mindset that "glasses = ugly" into their heads and takes a really massive toll on their self esteem as it makes it seem to them that they can only be pretty without their glasses even though that is certainly not the case and that they can't help having poor sight. Just look at Mia. She went from a cutesy and unique character and had all of her features stripped away from her including (unsurprisingly) her glasses. Quick review of 4 pairs of glasses ordered from “Zheng”. I’d ordered prescription glasses from Vincent (aka RX Glasses & Sunglasses) before, both were Tom Ford frames, and I was super happy with them. I reached out to Vincent ahead of this order but no reply on either WeChat or WhatsApp, so it seems he is down for now. I looked around after realising Vincent was not an option, and I’d seen this 1688 store reviewed, and also heard about Zheng, but when reaching out to order with this store I did not realise it was Zheng. I initially contacted him on 1688 and he provided his WeChat ID so we could discuss the order. Super responsive communication, even during the wee hours in China. He provided a link to his photo album (linked below) and I chose 4 pairs, a Tom Ford “JFK” style with clear lenses, Prada D-Frame sunglasses, Prada aviators with clear lenses, and a pair of JMM Sterett with clear lenses. I then shared a photo of my latest optical prescription. I had a few other items sitting in Superbuy Warehouse pending shipping, so I decided to order via SUperbuy and ship that way. Zheng did provide me with the option to check-out directly with him and he would organise shipping, which is good to know for any future orders. To check-out using Superbuy, Zheng shared a link to a ¥1 product on 1688, and asked me to check-out this product and specify QTY = 2088 (my order total). Pricing breakdown was as follows: Tom Ford TF6001-K-B: ¥260 Frames + ¥280 Lenses Prada SPR C03S: ¥240 Frames + ¥280 Lenses Prada VPR 58S: ¥180 Frames + ¥280 Lenses JMM Sterett: ¥280 Frames + ¥280 Lenses Domestic Shipping: ¥8 Quote for direct shipping to UK: ¥380 Order total: ¥2088 All lenses were top-spec with anti-scratch, anti-glare, blue light filter etc. They arrived today and I am delighted with all 4 pairs. Great fit – the 2 pairs I had from Vincent previous were very tight to begin with and had to heat them and bend them a little to make them comfortable – that wasn’t the case today. I love the styles, especially the Tom Fords and the Prada sunglasses. The Jacques Marie Mage are really bold, with a thick and heavy frame that isn’t something I’d usually go for, but rocking them as I qrite this and they are growing on me. The Prada aviators are fine, pretty basic, not sure if they are a fantasy piece, but good to have in my rotation none the less. I can’t stress enough how easy Zheng was to communicate with. Genuinely pleasant interaction and always fast responses. He shares the Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson handshake gif from 2 Fast 2 Furious all the damn time which cracks me up. Glasses were made within 24hrs of ordering and full QC of each pair was shared on WeChat for GL. After GL, they arrived at the Superbuy Warehouse like 16 hours later. Comparing with Vincent, his pricing 9 months ago was $50 USD for frames and $45 USD for same-spec lenses. So $95 USD all in per pair of Tom Fords. Zheng was ¥260 Frames and ¥280 lenses, totalling ¥540 per pair of Tom Fords. This equates to $76 USD i.e. 20% cheaper. Quality seems the same between both sellers. Zheng had better communication. Prada : 240¥ (frames) + 280¥ (lenses) Tom Ford : 380¥ (frames) + 380¥ (lenses) Shipping : 220¥ (directly from seller) The Prada ones were cheaper overall, but the Tom Fords cost more since the seller had to buy the original frames first, and on top of that I went with polarized lenses which are more expensive than normal ones. Just got my prescription reps and I’m honestly really happy with them. The prescription is spot on, super clear, no weird distortion, and both pairs feel solid. Frames don’t feel cheap at all and the fit is really comfortable. Haven’t had much sun to really test the polarized ones yet (winter problems), but so far both pairs look and feel great. For the price, I’d say totally worth it.
